For two years now, I've found K&A to be the best of Madison for selection and plant quality. This…read moreplace is the BEST. The layout is huge, organized, and easy to navigate with their carts and pathways. Everything is well-organized and easy to find. The flowers and greens are always lush and high quality, lasting me all Spring and Summer. Their pricing is competitive and I'm much happier to support a local place than a box store. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. Yesterday I asked for a plant that I had last year but could only show a picture of, and this lady immediately knew it and took me to the section where I could pick the plant of my choice within the same family of plants. Love it here -- I'll keep coming back!

Though it's off the beaten path, the Landscape Designs Nursery in McFarland is one of my favorite…read moreplaces to purchase trees and shrubs. The nursery is tucked into a forest, protecting the plants from hot sun in the summer and the icy winds in the winter, so the tree and shrubs I purchase are always in premo condition. The selection of plants is excellent as well (see the website for in-stock inventory) and if they don't have a tree or shrub that I am looking for, they will order it for me. Kristine, the nursery manager, is über-helpful and always is able to answer my questions about how to care for a particular cultivar. One word of caution, if the weather is bad, call ahead to make sure the nursery is open. They often close in inclement conditions.

Chuck Acker has the healthiest seedlings I have seen. I purchase flasks from many people and I…read moregenerally lose a number of seedlings. However, Acker's flasks are different. Each individual seedling is so healthy out of flask that I would say 99% of those seedlings survive. He also offers flasks of Paphs and Phrags that are often hard to get for reasonable prices. If you're looking for something new or unusual (or both) I suggest perusing his website. Chuck is also one of the few original importers of Phrag. kovachii. His divisions of stud plants are amazing. These are amazing plants as they never seem to die! He ships quickly and is a reliable source for any slipper orchids he has.

This place is so neat! My sister-in-law comes here regularly for rocks. My mom seems to always have…read morea need for rocks so I figured we should add a stop here while in the area. You pull in and then drive up onto a scale to weigh your car prior to doing anything else. There is a stop light and staff will note your car and weight. The light turns green and you head to the rocks that you want. You can select one style and then head back to weigh. After getting the new weigh, you can then get more rocks of another style, and weigh again. Keep of track of the types of rock you are getting. We only got white steppers so only needed to do the one weigh. After our last weigh in, we parked and headed in to pay. Prices seemed reasonable. We'll be back for more rocks when in the area again.
