We sat in a booth with very tall walls that felt very private but I don't feel like I could tell you the vibe of the rest of the restaurant. Since I was sitting in the back of the booth, I could only see two other tables that were along the windows and the traffic going by in the dark. Next time we'll ask not to sit in a booth so we can see more of the restaurant. Our server informed us that the public house was split into two sections. We were in the full-service restaurant part and there was a more casual (order at the counter?) section by the front door for people that just wanted to grab a beer and sit at a communal table. Our server was excellent. Not the typical Eugene service from him! He answered our questions about the beers and brought us tastes and had all the answers ready about the food. They were out of two things (understandable at such a new spot) but I noticed that they had already changed their menu a few times in the few short weeks they've been opened. Yay for seasonal menus!! Our party went super basic and we all ordered the Butter Burger (the butter is mixed into the patty so it helps the burger caramelize) which came with fries. We also split the grilled potato salad(served chilled), which was a good sized portion to split with our group of five. My kiddo got the wings (sauceless) and fries. They also had a strawberry slush that I added strawberry vodka to which turned out to be a welcome respite from the record heat. We were huge fans of all the whiskeys we tried, and the bartenders were so friendly and skilled at drink making. We enjoyed our conversation with the bartender from Hawaii! This will be a must stop when we next find ourselves in Eugene.

The space has great potential, just like their former spot on Willamette Street. It's versatile, family-friendly, and yes, the car park is tight. With so many craft beer options in the area, you've got to be on your game. Unfortunately, Claim 52 wasn't. We waited in line for eight minutes with only one server pouring beer. Tables were cluttered and needed bussing. We found a patio table covered in glassware, so we cleared it ourselves and asked for a bar towel to wipe it down. Others were doing the same -- inside and out. There was no bus tub on the patio, so finding one became a bit of a treasure hunt. While waiting for our beer, I glanced over at the food ordering area. A young man behind the counter was more focused on his phone than helping the overwhelmed server. I would've stayed longer, maybe ordered another beer, but the lack of customer service made that a hard no. Coincidentally, the brew club from Albany was touring the area by bus that day. With services like this, there's no way I'd recommend Claim 52 -- not until they tighten up their operations.
