Came by on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Parking was easy, plaza parking. The friendly staff told us which table we could sit at for dining in. There are tables but we feel like there aren't enough of them. Inside looked clean, there was occasionally mini fly flying around. It was very busy, there were customers dining in and ordering takeout. We got waters and took a few minutes before our order was taken. I was craving the banh mi sandwich. Ordered Cold cut banh mi Bun Bo Hue Grilled Beef First came the cold cut banh mi sandwich, it was good, tasted fresh. The bread was toasted just right, I would get this again. The Bun Bo Hue tasted good but it didn't come with pork blood like it stated on the menu, maybe they don't have that yet? Husband got the grilled beef, it was alright but would try a different dish next time. Once we were ready to pay, husband walked up to the cashier and they asked us if we needed any takeout boxes. Taste wasn't there merely any pate, meat was thin seems like regular ham highly disappointed as there wasn't any fresh veggies just cucumbers. No authentic banh mi taste was bleh. The bread was dry, didn't seem fresh. No jalapeño at all even though i ordered with everything on it.. I am assuming that this restaurant just opened negate of the grand opening sign that hands out front. There were two people working when I arrived, one taking orders at tables and the other taking to go orders at the counter. It was a cold day and I wasn't feeling my best so I was hoping for a delicous hot pho. I am a vegetarian but when I'm feeling down I like to get a beef broth veggie soup. When I ordered my usually veggie pho with beef broth the server was kind enough to let me know that they don't really put vegetables in their pho -- only onions and scallions. I was glad that he was honest and up front with me. I think other places would take your money and give you something that you might be dissatisfied with. Was excited to try a new Vietnamese spot with good reviews. Came in expecting some good but left feeling unsatisfied. We ordered a few items: combination pho extra tripe, cold cut banh mi with Vietnamese ice coffee, bun Bo hue (special request for egg noodle ) My daughter liked the combo pho. It was solid according to her. The bun Bo hue however left much to be desired. The beef was tough with avg portions and the worst part is they used ramen noodles to substitute for actual egg noodle. This totally ruined it for me. The broth was also salty and didn't have that rich bun Bo hue flavor I'm used to. The garnesh was also lacking for the soups. Just a bit of basil, sprouts , cilantro but no cabbage for the bunbohue. My wife liked the banh mi but indicated that there wasn't enough pate or maybe had none. I was excited when this place opened up because there is a sad lack of good Vietnamese food nearby. Our first time, hubby and I both got the bun bo hue. The broth was flavorful, the noodles had the perfect bouncy chew, and there was a decent amount of meat. My only gripe was that it wasn't spicy at all, but we were still pleasantly surprised. So much so that we had to go back and try more things. Unfortunately our second time around was more of a miss. I got the bun rieu and the broth was very light and pretty bland--none of the rich umami+tomato flavor or deep annatto coloring you expect from bun rieu. The "rieu" came as one square piece like they made it as a meatloaf and sliced off a chunk instead of as separate "meatballs" with more loose rieu in the soup. Hubby didn't think his pho was anything special either. And though we got a small bag of sprouts, about 5 basil leaves, and a tiny piece of lemon for his pho, I didn't get any cabbage/herbs/lemon for my bun rieu. Located in a strip mall next to Starbucks, it's easy to miss the place as it is small and located in the corner. I ordered the Bun Rieu, and it took awhile to get my food. Not an overabundance of meat and the flank was already in the soup (I prefer it be served raw so customer can dunk it in the broth). But the meat was tender so it was pretty good. My wife enjoyed the soup base of the bun rieu. So overall a decent food experience. Unfortunately the customer service was really lacking. Server spent the entire time behind the counter cleaning or doing something, couldn't really see. Never came over to check on us. Never refilled our tea. I had to stand up to ask for extra napkins. It was really awkward. Another set of customers came in and they were pretty lost; they weren't acknowledged and didn't know whether to sit or wait. After they sat down by themselves, they waited and waited and you could tell they wanted to order but no one came because the server never even knew someone came in. Overall very poor customer service. I mean she was really friendly when she camel to the table but just had no idea what the heck proper restaurant customer service looks like. The other I won't name here, but if you read my reviews, you'd know. This place has a nice, clean Ma and Pop feel to it. It's small with about 10 tables and it's usually quiet here as it's still quite new. There's a part of me that would love to keep this a secret, but this place deserves to be busy. When I entered the establishment, a young man at the counter greeted me and asked if it was take out or dine in. The way he did it, I thought could have been more professional instead of yelling it out, but he was still a pretty cool guy. Food came out pretty quickly, but the drink did take a few minutes but understandable because he was making a Vietnamese coffee per order which I respect. What made me recommend this place is the fire bbq pork banh mi sandwich. Vietnamese coffee is okay but definitely would recommend this sandwich. Overall the establishment had a cool vibe inside and tables to sit in, there was a few dirty tables not cleaned right away but it's expected due to a two man show in the counter. I felt it was very good. The counter service was efficient and friendly. I loved the fried egg rolls and the grilled chicken banh mi was yummy. My only slight disappointment was the bread is not so much baguette like but more fluffy hoagy but it was super crispy, so it worked okay and I pulled a lot off, it was stuffed with delicious grilled chicken and fresh veggies. The egg rolls are SUPER CRISPY and scrumptious, served with a side of carrot salad. It was a quick pick up to take back to my hotel. Great big parking lot. Easy parking is a big plus.
