Viet Rice has been a staple in my life for over 20 years. The food has never steered me wrong and the choices are always wonderful. The most recent visit we came in for Pho with the best broth. Service is always impeccable with a casual atmosphere. I don't come here as often as I would like to but never regret a choice to get food from here.

Perfectly fried wontons; crispy outside, never greasy & generous filling.

Many dine-in & take out orders throughout the years. Always greeted with a genuine welcome in, smiles & conversation while you wait for your order. Last night's choice, fried wonton & wonton soup to go. Made to perfection & even in take out containers, beautifully presented; the aroma filled with spices & broth perfection!

I got the Crispy Squid with a side of Fried Rice. It was superb! Large portion -- it was enough for two. A delicious and filling meal as usual. Friendly service. Chill atmosphere.

In the mood for pho. Our 1st choices (for convenience) were closed in between lunch and dinner. So we stopped here. Ok so glad we did. It's a smallish place no one here - perfect. Decor definitely a Vietnamese flavor. Drinks to start - including the Thai Tea. It was bland and watery, not the nice creamy style we're accustomed to. The fried wontons were better, tasty - not over fried. For entrees we got the Spicy Lemongrass with beef and a Combination Curry - chicken, beef & shrimp. Both with medium heat. The lemongrass was nicely seasoned - not overly hot and beef was tender. The combination was flavorful. Shrimp firm & crisp, beef and chicken was tender. The heat was just about right. Great meal & easy on the wallet. This place joins our growing go to list

This place has good pho! I believe the best pho in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. The flavor is rich, the veggies are fresh. The restaurant is clean, and the waitress is very polite and friendly. The shrimp spring rolls are also very delish. I always get them when i come here. The avocado shake is pretty good too. Definitely recommend, this place is a hidden gem!

This place has the best vegan clay pot! (It's not listed as vegan on the menu but they easily customize it to be vegan by adding tofu and omitting the fish sauce.) I didn't even know what a clay pot was but my dad recommended it and now I'm obsessed. It's fried rice topped with veggies but way better than just regular fried rice. It's filling but feels light and healthy like a home cooked meal. It's the only thing I've ever gotten from here so that's all I can speak on but it's bomb. My husband and I come here often for it. The staff have always been very kind and the food always comes out fast!

I love coming here! And hey, they have gluten-free soy sauce! I LOVE their footballs! Pho good too!

If anyone reads my evaluations it's easy to see that I love Pho. I tried Viet Rice today and ordered the Chicken noodle soup (Pho). I added Chicken at an additional cost. I loved their Chicken broth, it was salty and sweet at the same time. The Chicken that was added was somewhat less than I expected, but it was flavorful and added to the overall dish. A plate of Cilantro, been sprouts, lime and jalapeno was provided as a garnish. I sometimes hold off putting the bean sprouts into the broth because they are cold and tend to reduce the broths temperature. The noodles I chose were rice, but other options are available. I mostly order Beef with Brisket and love the Star Anise flavor. After completing my meal I was very satisfied and I do recommend the Chicken Noodle soup.

Dropped in on a Tuesday, 9/10/19, for lunch with a buddy from work. He commented that he would blame me if he got sick. He worried because Viet Rice sits sandwiched in a strip mall, south of Smiths on 528. I told him not to worry, that Viet Rice had high Yelp ratings. He had to trust in the Yelpers. The dining room looked extremely clean and the waitress quickly wrote down our order. I order the #22 Crispy Egg Noodles topped with a meat combination (chicken, shrimp, pork, beef) for $13.99. These egg noodles were topped with broccoli, snow peas, bamboo shoots, onions, and carrots. I enjoyed the combination of crispy noodles, cooked noodles, delicious meats and the snappy vegetables. The chef came out and we congratulated him on some amazing dishes. All of the photos of the different dishes looked quite tasty (see attached photo). For both dishes, I paid a total of $27.44. When we left, my buddy said we had found a great hole-in-the-wall and said he would be back. I completely agreed.

It was served over rice with green beans and topped with a fresh mango salsa that added just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the fish. Everything on the plate complemented each other really well. To pair with dinner, I had a glass of the 631 Merlot, and it was excellent. It was smooth, rich, and paired perfectly with the meal. If you enjoy red wine but don't want anything too overpowering, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. The restaurant itself has a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels upscale without being pretentious. The service reason it received a 4 star was for the service. Our waitress was very friendly but it took a very long time to bring our drink order and apps. This was because she said she was given two tables at once. So it was not her fault. Overall, experience made for a really enjoyable evening. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu--and of course, more of their wines!

The sunrise burger is still one of hubby's favorites in the city, and the fries are incredible. I tried the High Point Mac & cheese (green chile mac w/steak sliced on top) and yowza. So much flavor, and the steak was perfectly tender. The restaurant has food nailed. And our server was amazing. Unfortunately, th manager did a poor job estimating how busy they'd be on a Friday night, so the two servers were running ragged. The manager pitched in, but they were playing catch up with the silverware and we had to wait for it when the food arrived. Which, no biggie, but it was a fork when I had steak and my husband had a messy burger. So we right away asked for knives. I pointed out my steak, and the manager got snarky with us like she got it. But then she brought us butter knives. When I got up and went to the bar to ask for a steak knife, her attitude was even faker. I don't abide fake when someone's eyes and mouth clearly say they think you're stupid or annoying or both. As a manager, you learn how to school your face and keep people happy or you don't last in management long. Also, if she miscalculated staffing, then it should have been her job to get into the bathrooms and keep them presentable. They weren't. Paper everywhere, and the walls need some serious touch ups. It's hard for people to trust the food safety if the job-food public areas aren't kept clean and well-maintained, you know? We'll be back because the food IS awesome and we always have an enjoyable meal. But they definitely need to turn an eye toward building upkeep and service.

Honesty from the supposed owners!!! Beware of your check because my daughter asked for some lemon 2x and they didn't advise us that they charged 1.75 each small bowl!!! Then straight up said they have to basically up prices on other things in order to keep the seafood prices down . Then I wrote a Google review and another owner straight up lied on his response to me... I don't like dishonesty and I greatly value customer service in which they fail at both . For a few slices of lemon they messed up a possible regular customer... The food was ok but pretty pricey for what you get. The seafood buffet is about the same price and definitely worth going to instead of dealing with know it all management/owners that will argue over extra lemon.

They are hard to resist, so we went back to Pelican's last Thursday. The place was packed and more noisy than usual. Our waiter was a newbie. But we were still under the masterful management hand of Linda, the chief hostess most nights. We got our favorite table. Usually we start with either a grilled artichoke or a shrimp cocktail... or both. The artichoke is a wonderful discovery and worth the work it takes to eat an artichoke. The shrimp are big and tasty, always very fresh. But last Thursday, we skipped the appetizers and got down to business. Pelican's presents itself as a steak and fish place. I had never had the beef before, so I went for the prime rib and asked for creamy horseradish to accompany it. I like their baked potatoes, but this time I ordered the french fries. The entree was preceded by their house salad for all four of us (but their clam chowder is really good, too). I like the house dressing. The house salad is full of delightful, fresh crunchies -- raw broccoli, carrot slices, mixed crunchy greens, little tomatoes. I love salad, and for me it is a big draw at Pelican's. My prime rib came a perfect medium rare, nicely trimmed, great beef flavor, great edge crust, and a piece of meat that I could have fed three teenage sons on back in the day. The french fries showed attention to detail, hot and crisp on the outside, perfect on the inside. If you like prime rib, you cannot do better than this dish at Pelican's. The Amigas all had salmon. I have eaten the salmon at Pelican's perhaps a dozen times over the past year or two. I know what to expect, and Pelican's never fails to deliver it: one of the two best grilled salmons in town (the other is at Season's Grill by Old Town). Nobody was disappointed this time, either. The asparagus is expensive but good, the sweet potato fries are excellent, the rice pilaf has improved to the point that I would come here for it. No dessert this trip. Maybe next time. If you love seafood, Pelican's West is your place. And now, when I want prime rib, I know where to get it.
