God I haven't felt this satisfied with Chinese food for so long and of all the places in Albuquerque. A sweet Chinese family greeted me and my friends at the door. That instant closeness and hospitality, in the backdrop of traditional comforting interior decor made us feel so welcome and relaxed. But the food is beyond amazing. The roasted duck is crispy and packed with flavor. Beef hot pot too, with the beef stewed to softness and soaking up the sweet and umami sauce in the pot. The tofu shines through the array of heavy hitter meaty dishes. The salted dried fish gave the tofu a funky taste and it mixes brilliantly with the rice. Pork ribs, oh my god, I can't believe of all the dishes, the easiest people pleaser won't make it to the top. Don't get me wrong, in any other scenario I'd have gone on and on about it, with that juiciness and spice but everything else is just so much sophisticated and enjoyable that I can't keep my chopsticks away from them. Honestly haven't felt this satisfied and well fed with my most beloved Chinese food for so long. There's one place I'd always think about whenever I think about Albuquerque, it's East Ocean read more

One of the better Chinese places in ABQ. Fantastic dishes, freindly service, and excellent takeout ordering. Eating at the restaurant is good too, although the tables and ambiance are dated. read more

The food and service was exceptional! I ordered pot stickers and Mongolian Beef. Superb!!!

For ABQ, this place is pretty good. A classic Chinese American joint. There's actually some work hei. Just don't expect the best quality meat or friendly service. But at the price point, it's very fair. The restaurant could use a remodel but if you are looking for some nostalgia and simplicity, this might be your place. read more

Back in 2009, I moved to Albuquerque and the first thing on my to-do list was to find a great Chinese restaurant because I was raised on authentic beef and broccoli with rice and Chinese food was my weakness. Well... East Ocean is TOO GOOD! My favorites then (and still today) are their BBQ pork egg foo young, ma po tofu, lemon chicken, orange chicken, and paper chicken. Their lunch specials are a little TOO affordable and the staff is so accommodating in such a beautiful restaurant that East Ocean became my weakness when I was happy, sad, and just plain breathing. Let's just say that it became noticeable how much weight I gained because I was THAT addicted. It came down to giving up my love for their food or doing something I never thought I could bring myself to do but I gave in... and joined a gym. Now I live somewhere with horrible Chinese food and let's just say it's been 5 years since I moved and I'm skinny and still in constant withdrawals. If they ever sold a mini apartment in the back of East Ocean with ma po tofu and egg foo young included, I would overpay for it without a second thought and live happily ever after! PS - tell all the fish I miss them! They made the best reading buddies! read more

The table for three enjoyed the #9, Chicken Lo Mein, 2 fried shrimp, white rice and vegetable egg roll. Our food arrived piping hot and portions were very generous. I forgot to take photos as we were all engrossed in eating and conversation. There were about 12 tables along with a party of 15. We enjoyed the excellent service. read more

Man, EVERYTHING hit tonight! We had a large party and ordered two of everything! We had the lobster, the sesame chicken, basically the sweet and sour deep fried braised beef(?), the steamed seabass, fried rice, the seafood soup, the cream cheese wonton appetizers, Chinese broccoli, bok choy, snow pea, whole duck (obviously all not in that order) I've had these dishes so many times before. But for some reason today, everything felt so fresh and amazing! I was raving about it with my sister, and my aunt was telling us that it is because we asked for "less salt! " (I would honestly take this comment with a grain of salt lol) Anyways, it was so much better than any other time I've ever had it before! And I wanted to make sure I got on here to really compliment about the food that we got this time around! We ran into so many different people at the restaurant that we all knew. There were a lot of other Asian families there too. You really know if an Asian restaurant is good because you see other Asian families at that restaurant! read more

I've been eating here for about 30 years and it's always been very good. It's changed hands a few times, but the current owners are doing a good job. Today's service had a snag. I ordered the house special ribs lunch portion by pointing at that menu item and got what I believed to be a beef & broccoli. I told the server that this was not my order. I believe there was a language barrier and I grabbed a menu and pointed to what I ordered. Another employee told me the food would be out soon. I waited longer than planned, but the food was good. This is a no frills Chinese restaurant so the decor isn't what you go for. read more

First off, I should mention that I'm not a huge fan of Chinese food in general. Also I'm quite picky having cut my teeth on it in Boston's Chinatown. Anyway...I first tried this place as carryout during the pandemic on the recommendation of a friend. I was quite impressed with the food at the time. After far far too long, I finally went back to dine in with some friends and was so very glad I did. The food was amazing. I got the sesame balls and the vegetable lo mein. Others got the sweet and sour chicken combo and the sesame tofu. It was all amazing. The tofu came with a huge pile of broccoli cooked just right. The service was quick and the wait staff were all very friendly. My friends had a very exuberant small child who was just very excited about everything and our waitress was great about interacting with him and helping him choose his meal. The place is a bit on the smaller side and they seem to do a very good business both as carryout and dine in, so you may have a bit of a wait but it will be well worth it. I will definitely be back! read more

My husband and I visited East Ocean for the first time yesterday and we were absolutely impressed! When we showed up it wasn't too busy... but as we were there, the traffic coming in and out of the restaurant was nonstop for pickup orders. Considering how busy it was, the restaurant was not too loud and it was warm which I was concerned about since we were by the exit. You could tell they had their regulars and I could absolutely tell why once my food came. The egg drop soup was the BEST I've ever had. It tasted savory and fresh. I ordered the orange chicken lunch special and my husband ordered the Kung Pao chicken. The food also was fresh and hot. The sauces in the food were superb! On top of the amazing food, the service was also amazing! The waitress was quick and friendly. She didn't rush us, but was quick to notice when we were ready to order! We'll definitely be back! read more

My first visit to East Ocean, middle of Sunday afternoon on the 16th of June 2024. Ample parking, greeted warmly at the door, seated immediately. Decor is Asian theme and comfortable. Extensive menu! My dining companion and I had hot and sour soup, shrimp with lobster sauce, and sesame chicken with steamed rice. Everything was delicious and the portions were quite generous. Excellent prices. Personally I think this is one of Albuquerue's best Chinese. read more

First, must say that we have lived in Albuquerque a full year now after moving here from Denver (my home for 70 years). We have explored for good restaurants since moving here - both Mexican and Oriental without much success. In looking, we have looked at reviews of all and the reviews for this one were promising, so we tried it tonight. Terribly disappointed; not only in the food but the reviewing/reviewers here. It seems to us that the people here have been raised in a gawdawful restaurant desert! My partner ordered the orange chicken, while the chicken was there it was devoid of any orange flavor. My order was for scallops and broccoli which was mainly/mostly vegetables with slices of scallops here and there. So, this was our first and last visit to this venue. Other ventures based on review have been mainly the same resulting disappointment. Oh, the service was fine the ambiance, MEH. read more

Tasty, fresh food. Relaxing atmosphere, attentive staff and good food at a great price.

I've been here twice so far. Both times it was fairly quiet and service was prompt and efficient. On my most recent visit I had Singapore noodles and my friend had eggplant with garlic. Both delicious and sizeable portions. I'm looking forward to trying more of their dishes. read more

No, I deliver food for different food services. A lot of people order from here so I thought it was going to be very good but it was so disappointing. The egg rolls were not good. They tasted old sweet-and-sour pork. The pork was hard like that was old too and the sauce that had no bell peppers no onions no pieces of pineapple. It was pretty bland. The place inside looked very nice. It looked clean so maybe things are different if you eat in instead of carry out. read more

Lunch ends at 2:30 so we missed the lunch specials. We got dinner B and were very happy. Wonton or egg drop soup. Great appetizers. Shrimp in lobster sauce and cashew chicken. Is it the best food I've ever had? No. But it was really good. Nice portions and great price. read more

The taste of the salt and pepper shrimp and salt and pepper lobster was great. I didn't appreciate that the shrimp were not deveined. So stopped here since it was actually good reviews on Yelp. Seems there a lot of regulars that come here as call ins. There are about 6 people waiting for orders. Had to find my own place to sit as they seem to busy for customers. Ordered two egg rolls, crunchy, and well cooked and very tasty. Something I think is so cool, the lobsters are very fresh, you can pick the one you want from the tank. So awesome. Egg drop soup, is not the best , but it is okay, don't think I will be getting this again here. Ordered pork fried rice, portions are not large like most places but actually cost more then most places. The pork fried rice tastes AMAZING! Wow! The rice is so well made, it may be worth the extra cost. It has bbq pork, green onions, cabbage, eggs, and the rice is cooked to perfection! You have to try the fried rice. So the place stays busy, problem is the workers don't listen for the bells at the door so customers get tired of waiting. Inside it is well lit, that's a plus. Servers don't really talk to you and are not very observant. I would return again for the food. Service no, atmosphere no. read more

I had lunch there today with two friends. I got the sesame chicken, one friend had cashew chicken, and the other friend had vegetables. We were all satisfied. The portions are generous, and tasty. Next time I will try something spicier that also has vegetables. Our service was good. It would have been better if we had been given more time to finish our egg drop soup before our entrees were brought. read more

East Ocean was one of our regular lunch places when my husband worked nearby, but we hadn't been there in a couple of years so we decided to stop in on our way to see Belfast (excellent film, btw). I had beef with broccoli and my husband ordered boneless ribs. Lunch specials come with a thick egg drop soup, an egg roll, and your choice of white or fried rice. My beef was a little salty, but nicely cooked with delicious tender-crisp broccoli. Hub thought his ribs were a little fatty, but they were flavorful and enjoyable. The egg roll was very good - hot and crisp with a tasty vegetable and rice noodle filling. As always, East Ocean is a reliable place when you want americanized Chinese food. read more

I haven't had good Chinese food since I moved here five years ago. This place has it all and is locally owned! The menu is endless and everything I've had on it is great. I highly recommend the Lo Mein, egg rolls, and Kung Pao chicken! The Kung Pao is the perfect amount of spicy. Get some rice on the side! I also enjoy the cashew chicken. The cream cheese wontons are very good flavor-wise but I wish they had more stuffing. Otherwise they'd be perfect! If you're craving Chinese check this place out! read more

Been going here for years out of convenience but after tonight's meal I'm convinced it's one of the best in town. Eat in or take out is great. This is our new go-to traditional Chinese restaurant in Albuquerque. It's exactly what I'm looking for when I want Cantonese comfort food. Everything we order was solid... most of which was from the special Chinese menu, not the regular menu. Steamed sea bass with a ginger scallion soy sauce, sautéed ong choy, seafood hot pot, roasted duck and salted fish fried rice. All this for less than $100. Albeit too much food for two, but there was plenty leftover for lunch the next day. read more
