The ambiance was lovely. We walked in and were seated right away. We waited and waited as more and more people were seated and served. We finally flagged down the young lady (staff) with glasses and she approached my table with a flat affect and tone. She seemed irritated to have to attend to us. She never came back to ask if we needed anything and was generally rude, inattentive and hostile. It's ok to have a bad day but do not take that out on your paying customers. read more

I was really excited to try Vic's this weekend for their Bay Area famous brunch but was not overly impressed by it. The food was good but not something I would seek out, I wish the frittata was better seasoned, I added quite a bit of hot sauce to mine. They also don't have espresso drinks but the coffee was good. Good if not your first date ;) Honey Fried Chicken ($24): My BF got this one. Light crispy breading on boneless chicken thigh/breasts. Really generous portion and the smashed potatoes were sooo yummy! Braised Pork Shoulder (seasonal; $32): Pork was super tender and pull-apart. The coffee/apple cider sauce was really good--almost like a red wine sauce but lighter! Really good on the smashed potatoes I stole from said BF. Great new spot in Downtown Martinez for a weekend brunch! I went on a Sunday for memorial day weekend and they were packed! Tip is to put yourself on the yelp waitlist. You can set a reminder for when you want to eat. When I got there we checked in and got seated right away since I used the waitlist. Outdoor seating is more extensive but we sat inside which was cozy and had a small diner feel. I think there's only room for five tables inside. Service was prompt, friendly, efficient. The coffee is good and strong with free refills (late night, I ended up having 3 cups). They also serve alcoholic beverages but we did not partake since one of our party was pregnant and we were trying to be nice to her :) They have weekend only brunch specials and our party is in the mindset of great minds think alike so we all got the pulled pork Silog. Tender pieces of pulled pork on a bed of delicious garlic rice - drool! One of us ate it all (I won't say if it was me or not...) The Prego got The Momo which is like chilaquiles but with lots of tatertots instead of chips. Portions were big and food came out very fast as well. When I learned that the Hideaway had a newish sister spot in Martinez, I was ecstatic! The memories of delicious honey fried chicken, mashed potatoes and waffles came crashing back. Such a cute place and the service is prompt and attentive. Parking is easy in the side streets. Place gets really busy by 11am so come early esp if you don't have reservations. They have outdoor and indoor dining. We sat outside since it was already warm. The table was a little small or we ordered too much haha. The menu is great and they have a different menu for dinner. We finally got a chance to visit this much reviewed spot in Martinez. We've been hearing about it from a local FB group and from word of mouth. We had a late bball game nearby so we headed over once it was over. It was surprising to find that it was a quaint place in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Plenty of parking, lots of outdoor dining, and a cool dining room inside. Very friendly hostess and servers greeted us when we walked in. The decor and vibe was homey and comfortable. We started with margherita flatbread and the Brussels- very good. There are few tables inside, but many tables outside around the restaurant. It looks like a great place to dine outside. Weekend brunch includes items from both the breakfast and lunch menus and we enjoyed all of our dishes. ASTRID's FLORENTINE BENEDICT-I enjoyed my Benedict with a side salad. Toasty English muffins were piled high with spinach and tomato slices and topped with a perfect poached egg. The hollandaise was rich and creamy with a hint of citrus. The side salad was filled with fresh veggies, croutons and berries over mixed greens. HARVEST SKILLET-my son enjoyed this skillet. I've been to The Hideout a handful of times and have been wanting to try Vic's. I finally made it here. My friends and I got there Sunday at 8:57am, and oh boy, the line was already forming. The servers we're donning their armor and getting ready for the crowd. As soon as the clock struck 9:00am, they welcomed each party warmly, and sat people accordingly. The staff is friendly and gracious. They showed us the QR code for the menu and served us water and coffee right away. The menu had similar items as The Hideout. We sat inside given the wind and weather but they have a nice patio: outdoor seating area. We checked in for our reservation and quickly got sat down. The only recommendation I have for the business is checking in with the party after they are done eating. I'm not sure how I ever forgot to review this place. This is officially our go to spot for date night at the moment in addition to basically any bday or special celebration. This restaurant offers a wide variety of delicious menu options that can satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Some of our favorites include the fried chicken (perfectly crispy and delicious with a bit of sweetness from the honey), roasted pork chop (cooked perfectly paired with an apricot and apple relish along with couscous) and the steak salad (wife's favorite). The only downside is they don't have a full bar (only wine, beer and cider along with some other house specials). They also have some delicious desert options including flourless chocolate brownie and ube waffle churros. The next thing on our list is to finally check out their breakfast. My fiancé and I decided to try this place out for the first time for a brunch date! It was quite lovely and they were pretty busy for brunch. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, and he ordered the chicken sandwich. We both shared a short stack of ube pancakes. The chicken fried steak and eggs was delicious. It was tender and the gravy was well flavored. I've been to some restaurants where the gravy is too salty but this place did it well! I also got the tots because it's been so long since I've had them. They were just okay. My fiancé said that his chicken sandwich was also pretty good. He said he wished it was a little more saucy because the chicken was a little dry. We both enjoyed his French fries! The ube pancake looks amazing but I was kind of disappointed. The pancake itself was extremely dry and the ube sauce they used didn't really soak into the pancake. I wish it was more drenched or that we had extra sauce. I've been to Vic's on several occasions, and can confidently say that brunch time is the busiest this place gets. Be sure to plan accordingly when coming for brunch because it is a popular spot and wait times can drag along. When here for dinner, it's a bit more relaxed and moves more smoothly when it comes to wait times. The venue itself has a really intimate yet friendly ambience, which is ideal for catering to a spectrum of parties from 2 people on dates to those as large as 10 people looking for a good time. My personal favorite is being seated outside, whether it is for brunch or dinner, because it is set up in such a way that ensures space for me to interact with my company while also embracing the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. The food here is a blend of traditional American foods and some Filipino dishes. As a Filipino in Contra Costa County myself, finding places with Filipino fusion and flavors is not only limited but also leaves me critical. Vic's does a good job incorporating the fusion into several dishes, and I appreciate the visibility given to our food.
