I came here for a romantic 30th birthday dinner with my GF, and I have no regrets. The food was delicious! The ingredients were all ones I'm very familiar with, but they were prepared and presented in ways I never would have expected. The flavors were clear and complimentary - I never felt overwhelmed by too many things happening at once. Each dish is on the smaller side, so plan on having several (they recommend two mains per person). I came away full, but not stuffed. The cocktails were also exquisite and were a perfect compliment to the food. The ambiance is romantic (at least at dinner), loud without being too loud. All the food was great. My party of 4 sampled 7 dishes and each one was memorable. We had a vegetarian with us who was able to enjoy 2 dishes with mushrooms, the broccoli (with charcuterie on the side), the potatoes, and the beets (without beef). The rest of us omnivores really loved the braised beef, and the pork was also delicious. There was also a delightful goose egg and asparagus dish served in the shell. I'm not a vegetarian, but I love this place. I think this is one of the best quality of food restaurants I have eaten at in the area. There is so much flavor in every dish. I have gone for lunch because it seems more affordable, but I always get the three item option because I want to try it all. This is the type of restaurant where I'll order an ingredient I think I don't like only to find out it is delicious and I just haven't been getting the cook right or getting the ingredient from a good source. The asparagus soup was a little weird tasting and I'm not a big fan of cold soups, but the salami sandwich and the rice dish was great. This was a great dining experience: really delicious food in a beautiful setting with 'easy' service. We had four in our party and all got the tasting menu. Two were pescatarian and two ate meat. To me, when you can be creative and cook vegetables well, you win in my book. The first course of snacks was amazing. Carrot tartare with an egg yolk? Yes, please. My favorite course was the course out at the grill: grilled mushrooms/chicken thighs, whipped goat cheese, pear mustard, and grilled sourdough flatbread. Unfortunately we were all so stuffed that we couldn't eat as much of this course as we wanted. If I could change anything about this dining experience, I would not have added the scallop course. It was delicious, don't get me wrong. But it added another course of food that we didn't need. I also didn't really love the roasted/charred beet course. If we could have eaten the first 'snacks' course, the out-by-the-grill course, and dessert, this would have been 100% perfect. As it was, it was a solid 95%. Two of us also got the wine pairing. I highly recommend. It was not too much wine but the wines were all delicious, unique, and paired perfectly. The sommelier was helpful, professional, and friendly. Went to Vicia last night for drinks before an event with three of my girlfriends around 5:30. We just wanted a few drinks before we had to leave, a simple request, no? Apparently not. The bartender asked us TWICE as we were sitting down if we were ordering dinner. We told her, twice, that we just wanted to order a few drinks. As she rolled her eyes and took away the appetizer plates, we sat down at the EMPTY bar by the way. It wasn't like we were taking away seats from potential customers who wanted to spend more money, the restaurant was practically empty. While ordering our first round, she straight up ignored my friends question about an IPA on draft while standing directly in front of her. She was looking up and to the left into thin air. When she rudely made eye contact again, and asked "What did you say?" My friend then repeated her question. I wish I could show facial expressions through the computer screen. She gave my friend a look like she was asking the most ridiculously dumb question. It was pretty simple, really. After multiple rude looks and rolled eyes, we finally requested our checks. As a bartender, you should be able to gauge your customers, or at least ASK. She gave us one check. 4 girls. We asked nicely to have them separated, she grabbed the check with a smirk on her face and said "sure." As she was working on our cards for 15 minutes, she was clearly venting to another server about our very difficult 1-2 drink separated checks. I have worked in the service industry since 2016. I have been a server at the Lake of the Ozarks and have worked with the most needy, highly intoxicated, 26-member bachelorette parties that were all separate checks. I have never in my life wrote a yelp review, I'm pretty easy to please. This was completely unacceptable. I was so excited to try this super cute place, but I have never felt more disrespected as a customer than how I felt last night with Rachel. We all have stuff going on in life, I am completely understanding of that. Leave it at the door when you come to work. Hopefully she turns her attitude around for the next people who decide to sit at the bar. read more

Farm tables and wood chairs went out of style in the 90's - get some comfortable, stylish furnishings. Nix the tacky coat rack, friggin fire extinguisher and seating capacity cert from the entry - this ain't Floe's diner. Architect of this lovely space must be mortified. Get Gerard Craft in here ASAP and fix this terrible experience. A beautiful space under horrible restaurant management. And they automatically add a 20% gratuity??!! Hilarious!! Vicia was a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere, tastes, service. We were used to the same types of experiences so it was wonderful to have an entirely new experience that wow'd us. We had a hard time deciding which dish was the best, a struggle I gladly welcome and rarely feel as though I do. We started the evening with the prosciutto roll-ups and the purple top turnip tacos. The prosciutto roll-ups were very refreshing. The prosciutto was uncooked. It wrapped around a large bunch of greens, giving each roll-up the appearance of a tree. I aboslutely love prosciutto but I was surprised to find that i loved the freshness of the greens the most. I will say my fiance wasn't crazy about this dish, it just didn't do much for him. The turnip tacos, however, were a whole different level of deliciousness for us both. My fiance even set one aside so that this would be the last taste he had before the next course. The taco filling almost had a black bean taste, but with a savory tanginess. I can hardly describe it. Let me say that we are not ones to revel in vegetable dishes, but we are now converted. We revelled, and then revelled some more. The tacos were my fiance's favorite for the evening. Our next course consisted of the goose egg and the rutabaga carbonara. The goose egg was a very rare taste. It has a creamy consistency that I have not experienced with the every day egg you buy at the store. We asked the waiter what gave it this unique texture and he replied with a rather complex description of flavoring and cooking. I recommend you ask the waiter how this is prepared as he or she will justify this process much more. The rutabaga carbonara was my favorite. I can still taste it and my mouth is watering! It was very rich and the noodles had a very al dente texture. They weren't traditional noodles, but instead made from rutabaga, hence the name. They were so thick and flavorfull, and the creamy egg-based sauce added the to-die-for richness. We shared our main course, the berkshire pig. While this pif was very juicy and flavorful, this dish is not as memorable to me. If I had to recount the tastes, it would be just a more general explanation of 'it was good.' It isn't to say I wouldn't recommend it. I just wouldn't rave about it. The sauce in this was my favorite part about it. I could have soaked every inch of the pig in that sauce. Againm delicious, you won't be disappointed, just not my most memorable meal. Lastly, we finished with anne's garden for desert. This as incredible interesting. I wouldn't say it satisfied a sweet tooth, but it was a delightfully refreshing sweetness that ended the meal beautifully. If you are looking for a heavy sugery tasting treat, this is not for you. The core of this dish is ricotta and it was a smooth creamy delight, with just that hint of sweetness that lingered. The presentation alone was very intiguing. It finished the evening with the belief of the restuarant in mind: it is all about how you grow the food and the health of the soil. read more

Have been several times and this is a great restaurant. However, only giving four stars this time and hate to write this critical review. We had the chef's tasting menu. The four savory courses were excellent- innovative, fresh, thoughtfully prepared and presented. But our server ignored us for the most part snd gave the impression he couldn't be bothered. The least appetizing I've had in a long time was dessert -- a true failure. We were looking forward to a sweet end to what was until then a memorable dinner. But we got a dollop of something tasteless and green and cold which was purported to be sorbet, with a some herbs that tasted like dirt. We told the server it needed improvement- not a word was said, no offer to make it better. I hope this review will help fix these weaknesses. read more

I was excited to try this restaurant as my friends from St. Louis had been there several times and loved it. Our experience was terribly disappointing on so many levels. We chose the tasting menu--first course was great, then the second course was so overly salted it was literally inedible. When we pointed it out, the whole experience took a dark turn. Not only were our subsequent courses overly salty (including dessert!), the waiter Nick became surly and rude after we pointed out the salt issue. The manager Nate tried to make things right and told us he would comp our food due to our terrible experience, then that did not happen and he issued a small credit instead. The whole time we were in this nightmare, chef Michael was standing 10 feet away from our table, and did not deem to come over. One of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. My friends are influencers in St. Louis and will definitely be telling everone what a disappointment this place is. A little service recovery would have gone a long way, but they handled the situation so poorly it was truly shocking! read more

Horrible service from rude and condescending waiters. We were still finishing up a plate when the waiter grabbed it off the table without our permission. I asked him to bring it back because there was still food left. As he brought it back to the table, he commented, "I took it because it looked done," as if suggesting we lacked etiquette for wanting to finish all the food. We were clearly dismayed at his boldness, but the waiter offered no apologies. Later, when we were in the midst of finishing another plate, a different waiter came up to our table and asked, "can I take that or are you still scraping at it?" The choice of wording here ("scraping at it") was judgmental and condescending, as if suggesting we were classless and plebeian for trying to finish the food. We obviously enjoyed our food since we were trying to *scrape* up every last drop but due to the unprofessional and rude service I will never return here. I recognize that we may have been "disappointing" to the waiters, as we ordered no drinks and only a few dishes, but this does not give them license to insult us. I hope this review serves as a warning to others. *of note, clearly not classless as we still provided a decent tip despite being offended by the waiters' snooty attitudes. read more

Went to Vicia for dinner, what an amazing experience. The lemon drop martini was fabulous, my friend said the manhattan she drank was the best ever. Our meal was full of wonderful surprises starting with the appetizers and ending with the chocolate malt brownie! I love the decor and the outside dining area has a beautiful view. Let me start with what I liked - the architecture of the building and the warmth of the decor (along with the many outstanding reviews) lured me in anticipation for a meal I wouldn't soon forget. We ordered the Chef's tasting and put our fate in the hands of the owner. Cocktails, though expensive were amazing and unfortunately were the best part of the meal. Then the disappointment began. The first course, though plenty was lazy. Slices of local in season vegetables cut and served without imagination. A carrot served with a dollop of plain yogurt. Ordinary pulled pork served in a thin radish tortilla. And finally turnips served with a dull pesto sauce kicked off this flavorless journey. The second course, a goose egg served in shell with a bearnaise sauce and bread crumbs was again lacking flavor. Then we were bright to the hearth room for the 3rd course. Unfortunately the table by the fire was too uncomfortable due to the scalding flames from the open fire. The falafel that was served with hummus, freshly baked naan and other sides was decent, but we were forced to return to our table after half eating before we were singed from the fire. We then were served a $20 cheese plate which consisted of 1 slice of Brie-like cheese, chips and honey which was again unimaginative. Finally, we had a cup of chocolate mousse for desert which was too little too late. Overall, a $300 meal (more than I paid for the same chef tasting at Nobu) was a massive mistake. read more

Ugh, I really wanted to enjoy this place. I've been eyeing this restaurant for weeks now, and finally got to visit for lunch. Let me just say that the space is absolutely beautiful. It reminded me so much of The Modern in NYC, with contemporary, and beautiful design. Where the design is amazing, here at Vicia, the food just falls flat. I always judge a restaurant by its lunch if they offer it. When I was in New York, whether it be Le Bernardin, or Jean Georges, the food was exquisite regardless of the time of day. It seems that Vicia and their lunch is an afterthought. I may get heat, as there are many positive reviews, and perhaps dinner really is exceptional, but this review is of their lunch. Yesterday I chose the choose 3, with the chicken salad on focaccia, the chilled asparagus soup with burnt vegetable mole, and the grain salad with goat cheese, ramps, and mushrooms. The chicken salad was devoid of flavor, consisting of chicken, mayo, celery, and onion. The only flavor coming from the sandwich were the spicy greens on the sandwich. Salt and pepper goes a long way, and I wish that either they kept it simple and seasoned their food, or that they took chicken salad in a new and unusual way. The asparagus soup was good, nice and delicate, but the vegetable mole; if they left it out, it would not be missed. It did not add anything to the soup. A nice crunch component, whether it be croutons or even toasted breadcrumbs, would have been a nicer addition than the "mole." When I read about the grain salad; it check marked everything I love; mushrooms...yes...goat cheese...yes...ramps...hell yes. Maybe it is unfair, but I compared this grain dish, to Sardella's Grain Dish of Roasted Parsnips, Carrots, and Charred Leek Vinaigrette. Vicia's Grain salad does not even compete. Undressed dry farro or freekeh, I don't recall which, with a mousse like ramp and goat cheese mixture, and sautéed mushrooms. Individually, the components were not seasoned at all, and when mixed together, it had the texture of thick paste. I was yearning for something acidic to cut through the richness of the goat cheese ramp mixture, to no avail. With all the creds that this team has, working with Dan Barber; I guess my expectations were too high. I guess I'll have to try dinner to see if it is better; but if the inconsistencies and lack of seasoning are any indication of their dinner service, I might just pass altogether. read more

A lot of hype about this restaurant which should have been a deterrent. Several courses uniquely served, but without substance. I would hardly call two miniature radishes on a plate a "course" much less an appetizer. Nor the soft taco. Ordered a bottle of wine but had to request refills. Not sure if I was allowed to even finish the bottle. Why they could not leave the bottle on the table is still a mystery. As other post indicate, the decor and architecture are interesting. If you go for a meal be prepared to be disappointed. read more
