We came here on our Friday night dinner and everything we had was nothing short of excellent. They have a covered patio area but we were seated inside with a view of the kitchen. While it seemed fancy, the place did not give off a snobbish vibe which I really liked. There were some nice landscaping outside and on your way to the entrance. There were some street parking available as well as a few parking spots in the surrounding area. Make sure you pay for parking as we did see meter maids handing tickets on our way to the restaurant. We did the let us cook for you option ($85 per person) and I added the wine pairing for $30. They have an elevated wine pairing for $50. The place has a sommelier if you're wanting wine recommendations! We ordered cocktails when we were first seated while trying to decide what we wanted to do for dinner. I had the cucumber spritz (gin, rose aperitif, aloe, and garden syrup). It was very refreshing, good cucumber flavor, with just a tiny hint of sweetness. If I didn't have the wine pairing, I would have gladly ordered a second one. My husband had the rhubarb which he enjoyed. First course: focacia with whipped quark cheese, cured ahi tuna topped with nori, sweet onion, golden sesame and plum, naked vegetables with fresh pesto, crispy potatoes topped with black garlic, paprika aoili, coriander and spiced seed, and last but not least, the duck liver mousse served atop toasted brioche and topped with rhubarb, hibiscus, and strawberry . I'm not a bread person but I tried the focacia. It was good but I let my husband finish the rest. Everything was delicious but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the tuna and the crispy potatoes. The flavors were beautiful together. Honestly, I could eat just these dishes and be happy. The white wine pairing went beautifully with the dishes. Second course: corn fried rice with poblano peppers, cilantro and queso fresco, cherry tomato salad, and grilled Denver steak. The steak was prepared perfectly and was very flavorful. Also, I have never had corn fried rice but it was delicious and now I'm thinking I need more of it in my life. We had a basque cheesecake for dessert (third course). It was served with rhubard sorbet, bee pollen and almond brittle. It was the perfect ending to the perfect meal. Service was fantastic and friendly. Our server made sure he came by often enough in case we wanted something else like another drink or more water. Finally made it to Vicia last week after hearing great things for ages! First, the aesthetic and decor of the restaurant may be one of my favorites in St. Louis - it is absolutely gorgeous and so bright and inviting! I am sad I don't recall the servers name because he was SO helpful and kind and we loved him, as well as all of the staff who were all so friendly! We wanted to try as much as possible so we did the Let Us Cook For You. For apps, we got the focaccia, duck liver mousse, crispy potato, naked vegetables, and cured sea trout. Everything was insane. Our favorite may have been the mousse and I normally hate liver! Everything was so creative and delicious. Second course we were given the peekytoe crab rice, chicken, and sweet potato. Lovely anniversary dinner. There was a card at the table with a sweet message inside. We ordered wine and the focaccia bread to start. The bread and butter was delicious. I was nervous about the raw naked vegetables but the pesto was TO DIE FOR! So good! We then shared the sweet potato and it was probably my favorite dish. My boyfriend who doesn't like sweet potatoes, really enjoyed it. It had these savory crunchy bits that paired well with the potato. We both ordered pasta for our entree. If you can't decide what you want or it's your first time in, we definitely recommend the $85/pp "Let Us Cook For You" option! This was well worth the cost per person -- we got 4 appetizers, 3 entrees, and a dessert to share between 2 people. This is a marathon experience, not a sprint. Our server was also phenomenal with explaining all the dishes when they arrived to our table. The restaurant itself is pretty small, so I would definitely make reservations rather than trying to get a walk-in spot. I love a unique dining experience and Vicia did not disappoint!! This is an amazing little find in the Cortex area off Kingshighway. Great off street parking which is a rare treat in the city. The restaurant is surrounded by beautiful space for outdoor dining. Inside was beautifully decorated and meticulously arranged. I watched the servers set a table for an incoming reservation and he actually measured the space for the plates and flatware. Incredible attention to detail and it shows in every part. The food was beyond description. Unique flavors and entrees. The menu is constantly changing. It appears all dietary restrictions can be accommodated. The menu has small plates that can be shared or full size meals. I recommend the carrots. I never imagined grilled carrots could be a filling dinner. They also have the fun option of allowing the chef to curate your dining experience. We were on our way to a concert and couldn't dedicate more than an hour for dinner but we plan to return just for that option. The location is easy to get to with plenty of street parking. The inside is gorgeous, and for a September date, the outdoor seating was perfect. Aesthetic is super nice and is fitting for a more business casual feel or you could dress up a little nicer and still feel welcome. The service is great, they are refilling water and taking care of you all night. Our server tried to sell us on their chef's menu but there were a few things that my husband didn't like so we decided to do a la carte and had no complaints. TL;DR -- Vicia's staff is fantastic and their food is quite good; I recommend for a nice meal, especially for happy hour. Story time -- I had made a reservation for a nice goodbye meal before my partner left STL for the summer for an internship, then he decided to dump me out of nowhere the day before the reservation. I had to cancel the reservation (don't do a late cancellation, because it's pricey as heck) and was extra upset on top of the poopy circumstances. I had been looking forward to trying Vicia for a very long time. A friend felt bad and offered to take me to dinner still, so when I called super last-minute to see if I could un-cancel the reservation, hostess Amanda did the mostest to get me back on the books. She was so kind and empathetic, all the while keeping it very professional. I won't deny that I didn't have the highest hopes for food based on other reviews, but that left me delightfully surprised! I tried the foccaccia with ricotta, chilled asparagus, albacore sashimi, miso trout, and tres leches cake. Everything was delightful, but my particular highlights are: ricotta with aleppo and honey was very solid; asparagus had perfect crunch; the albacore sashimi has probably been the best I've had in this city so far and the sauce was divine; the trout dish was perfect and the yuzu lemongrass paired with miso was phenomenal. Drinks met expectation, and their happy hour menu has great offerings. More than anything, the service made my day. A big shoutout to server Jenna, who was such a kindhearted and supportive girls' girl who still made time to talk to me while she was so busy taking care of a bunch of tables. I am so grateful for the very positive experience I had here during a really rough time. It was basically a tasting platter of their small orders, so it was a great opportuinity to try alot of stuff without getting stuffed. Everything here is exquisite. Every dish that was vegetarian could have fooled me with how savory the items were (especially the Mushroom XO sauce in the stir fried rice). All the vegetables were fresh as could be. My 80yo parents and I went to celebrate my birthday. I'll start off with-- I messed up the reservation for 530 3 people. Idk how, I even put in my cc to cover cancellation fee. They were completely full, probably bc they had just been announced as a James Beard Award Finalist for best restaurant. The weather was spectacular and we were so grateful to have a spot. Because this wasn't anyone's section, Kevin, the GM, was our server. Kevin is a master at hospitality, and when asking him about making it to the finals of the JB Award, he was so happy to say this was a really special nomination because it recognizes the incredible commitment and hospitality of the whole restaurant staff. They've been nominated for several years in different categories. This is a first for "the big one". Ok now to the food. We had focaccia bread, we each ordered one of the mains (one of each protein beef short ribs, salmon, and chicken) and we shared a salad. Everything was delicious, beautiful presentation, and well balanced flavors. I had the cocktail Kevin recommended and it was fantastic (La Pxxxx), perfect amount of sweet and sour. Sticky Toffee Pudding for dessert, I think a Midwest take on the British pudding. Finally broke down and checked this place out. It's definitely a special occasion place; it's upscale and very elegant. The atmosphere was so...zen...I don't know how else to explain it. We loved the ambiance. The host was absolutely darling. We were 30 minutes early, and he was happy to seat us immediately (we had planned to hang at the bar until our reservation time). Our server was great. She was new, but we would have never known that had she not told us. She was professional, sweet, and funny. We did the tasting menu. I have the most boring palate, and I'm not a fan of exotic food, but I loved every plate that came out (except the sausage rigatoni...it was too spicy for my sissy taste). When a restaurant adds a 20% gratuity to a bill, rather than increase menu prices by 20%, there is an expectation customers will receive a reciprocal level of service. We arrived early for our reservation. Due to being the Saturday after Valentine's Day, there was a wait to sit at the counter. Once we were seated at the counter, we ordered some drinks, including a glass of white wine. Eventually, we were seated to our table. As soon as our waitress came to our table, we told her we wanted the "Let Us Cook For You" option with the wine pairing. Our waitress returned to our table with two empty wine glasses. Sometime later, the sommelier came to our table to commence the wine pairing for our tasting menu. Rather than pour the wine into an empty glass, she poured it in the used glass. After mentioning she had poured wine into a dirty glass, the sommelier just froze. She responded the table was setup incorrectly and left. After a long wait, she returned and introduced herself again and started her speech about the first wine pairing. The remainder of the dinner went without a hitch. With the exception of the clams, the dishes were served family style. For some dishes, a knife was required to cut into two servings. The first course was a combination of seafood and bread. The two favorites were the focaccia with homemade ricotta & honey and the tuna sashimi. Since there were a couple seafood dishes in the first course, the second course centered on the trout both was a letdown & surprise, especially since a red wine was paired with the course. When the risotto was served, it was not yet ready for prime time. Instead of the waitress preparing the dish, I had to mix the whole egg into risotto myself. For the third and final course, it was a single serving of the sticky toffee cake. The dessert had to be divided into two. Best meal we've had in a while. I can't say enough good things about it. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. It most certainly did not disappoint. We made reservations few hours ahead. We were warmly greeted at the door by the hostess and promptly seated on the patio as requested. On a hot day the patio does have a slight greenhouse effect, but it is a lovely patio either way. They have portable ACs and fans to combat it. Our server was Nick and he was spectacular. He was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. For drinks, I had the La Parcha, Rhubarb, ans Tawny Port, bf the NA Hibiscus and spritz. All amazing. We started with the potato bites. They were so good he got a second helping. We shared the summer veggies, summer squash, buttonwood farm chicken, and tuna sashimi. Everything was delicious. We agreed that the tuna and the summer squash were our favorite of the plates we shared. The only things we felt were a miss was the cabbage with the chicken was too vinegary for our liking and we weren't able to modify the duck liver mousse with vegetables instead of crackers. A good friend recommended this place, saying it is "life changing" and it gets pretty dang close to that high praise. The decor is modern and impeccable. There is so much attention to detail in everything they do, and you can tell they really care about quality and experience. The staff is friendly and thoughtful, and passionate about service. The menu changes up pretty frequently, so you can be sure there will always be something new for you to try. While you can now order individual items ala carte, I went for the Let Us Cool For You 3 course meal for $75, which is an ever changing sampling of the current menu, made differently for each guest. This was absolutely the perfect way to try out a bit of almost everything, with smaller portions of 6 appetizers, 3 mains, and 1 fantastic dessert. Some absolute highlights were the Ricotta Gnudi, fried oyster mushrooms, and the absolutely incredible crepe crepe brûlée. I could have eaten about 17 portions of each of those and still wanted more. There's also an outdoor wine garden that looks like a great spot to spend a warm night, so even if you're not up for a full fine dining experience, there's something for you here.
