Had dinner at Vicia on Thursday evening. I selected the Chef's Tasting Menu with Flatbread and Beverage Pairing. Quality When researching the best restaurants in St. Louis, I kept coming across Vicia. They are chef driven and focused on vegetable-forward cuisine. With the understanding that I would be presented with some unique and off-beat dishes, I decided to let the kitchen handle the decision-making and went with the Chef's Tasting Menu. The night started strong with a selection of different small plant based items. While the Kale tree stood out visually, it was the carrot jerky and the prosciutto wrapped peach that were my favorites. Next out was a summer salad. Made using tomatoes, squash, feta, and some other local veggies, it was decent, but not my favorite. However, I did love the wine pairing for this item, a spectacular unfiltered rose. This was followed by the Flatbread, the most substantial of the dishes. A large pita served with a tomato spread, sour cream, and cured meat. It was fine, but personally I feel like it would have been better if the kitchen constructed to the intended proportions. The next dish was a chicken thigh and berry compote. And while I usually prefer white meat, I am very aware of the flavor potential with the less used thigh. However, even with its coating of spices, I found it bland and a bit dried out. At this point I had high expectations for the final savory course and was disheartened when I saw the strange combo of grilled vegetables, grits, a corn based broth, and hot sauce come out. Once again an assortment of items not compiled, this time without even a clear connection. The meal ended on a high, with a delicious gooseberry ice cream and peanut brittle. It also was a very cool looking dish served in as an egg in a nest. However, the small positives of the meal and the solid wine, did not make up for dishes that continually missed the mark in terms of focus and taste. Quantity The Chef's Tasting Menu came with five courses, but had it not been for the supplemental Flatbread I feel like I would have still left hungry. Too many of the courses were just small bites and the dishes tended to be very light items. Value The Chef's Tasting Menu cost $85 and the Beverage Pairing was an additional $40. I felt the wine was worth it, but the food was too expensive for what was presented. Ambiance Vicia is located in the Central West End of St. Louis, but not being from the area I don't really know what that means. It felt like a strange spot, as it was surrounded by a bunch of large office buildings in an industrial area. The restaurant itself has a modern and trendy look. It is split into three main areas, the bar, the dining room, and the patio. The bar had a very cool atmosphere, dimly lit with the ability to see the action behind the bar. Simple decor with just some planters hanging with candles near the window and branches on the wall. The dining area is a decent size, but it got very loud during my visit. It was especially packed because the semi-outdoor patio was closed during the summer. This section with a large fireplace and oven would be lovely for spring or fall dining. However, I agreed that the last thing you need in summer is more heat. Crowd The restaurant was packed on Thursday night. Reservations are a must, and do not expect the bar area to be open because it fills up fast. The fact that many people select the Chef's Tasting Menu also means that it may be a while before any diners vacate their seats. Service The staff was extremely welcoming and attentive throughout the entire meal. The standout though was really the sommelier, who did an excellent job incorporating unique and offbeat wines with the tasting. Her bold choices were ones I questioned at first, but they all came together great. Parking I ended up using a car service, but it did appear like there was plenty of street parking in the area. It also seemed like you could utilize the parking lot across the street after business hours. Extra Vicia did not work for me. I loved the wine journey and I enjoyed bits of the meal, but overall I was underwhelmed by the food and felt the price tag was too high. My biggest issue though was how so many of the dishes required me to build the flavor. Give me the dish how you want me to eat it. Don't let me screw up the flavor because I am less familiar with the components or do not see how it comes together. read more

Come with an open mind and you will leave pleasantly surprised. I had so many reservations about whether I could find anything in the menu that I really cared for but surprisingly I found two items that I actually loved. 1. Appetizer: turnip shell tacos! What a delicious start. The turnip shell was thin, not over powering. Picked onions, pork crumbles, fantastic salad verde and hot sauce, well seasoned beans and topped off with kale, sour cream and pick. Delicious. 2. Main meal: pork fat fried rice. I was skeptical about the kimchi being in there and the way the fried egg was prepared but all in all it was delicious. The only down side I didn't care for was the expectation of a la carte or farmers tasting. If you ordered a la carte with a table of 5 they wanted you to order 10-15 items. If you ordered farmers you would get 3 dishes for $55. Being that I was very skeptical and didn't really get full I wasn't willing to commit and spend that type of money. It kind of made it so you would have spend a certain amount to meet there threshold. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant in the back of the Cortex complex. Definitely need reservations for dinner, because it's super popular right now. It's bright and airy, with a great enclosed outdoor area. Their dinner menu is divided into three "conversations" -- a snack section, appetizers, and mains. Although it is not a vegetarian restaurant, it is very focused on featuring the vegetables, so the meat is not the main part of the meal. Everything we had was truly delicious. We started with the spreads and added the bread. It came with whipped lard (heaven), sweet potato hummus, pesto, and a goat cheese spread. Everything was good, but the sweet potato hummus definitely trailed behind in terms of memorability. We ordered all three appetizers they had that day since we were so exited to try the food. They had a beet carpaccio, which was our least favorite. It was pretty one-note, but even so it was still delicious and creative. The rutabaga carbonara was our favorite of the appetizers; it was so delicious that I went back to the sauce with a spoon because I have no shame, apparently. We also had the scallops and rice. The rice was delicious and super flavorful. The scallops are served separately and tasted good, but were cold when they were brought out. For mains, we had the pork and the beef over green garlic farro. The turnips served with the pork were incredible and the pork itself was very good, but a little fatty. Food: 4.5 Service: 4.9 Ambiance: 5 Overview: the food is uniformly good (sometimes great in its flavors), but don't come too hungry. Food: Full disclosure: I am a carnivore and have no particular affinity for vegetables. Vicia leans heavily on vegetables, but does so in an impressive, delicious, and sometimes creative way. We had the tasting menu. The pacing was perfect. The only down note (hence 4.5) was that, at that price point, the tasting menu items seem downsized from regular menu items. We ended up needing to order extra items a la carte (beef, toast, dessert) because of the smaller portions. That said, the kitchen did a perfectly seamless job of incorporating those additional items. The best dishes we had were the pork fat fried rice (for sheer deliciousness) and the fried pullet egg (for its richness and creativity). In addition, the flavor profile and moistness of the grass fed beef dish was great, although it could have been even better if it had some contrasting textures (rather than all mushy). The grilled sourdough dish is enjoyable for its freshness and presentation/setting, as guests are led to an partially outdoor open oven to enjoy it. The crab toast and taco dishes were good, albeit not as memorable. Although nothing was bad, a mushroom in duck sauce we had was just fine, but underwhelming and insufficient as a main course (see above re ordering beef and toast). Service: Wonderfully helpful, warm, and inviting, while also being professional, without feeling the least bit stuffy. Our water glasses never went empty. Silverware replacement was done smoothly and always timed well. The only downside was forgetting a glass of wine, but it was barely an issue. Ambiance: The room seems to accommodate everyone from intimate dates, groups dressed up for a special occasion, and more casually dressed folks in sneakers and tattoos. It has perfect lighting (not too dark or bright) and a consistently comfortable temperature. P.S.: Bathrooms are nice and parking is a breeze. read more

This is a review for lunch as I have yet to dine here for dinner. Great for a quick, delicious, Lunch FEAST! Reviews on here are mainly for dinner, but this place is a true gem for lunch time. It's not a prix fine so you can pick and choose from a daily menu of about 6 different soups, salads, and sandwiches. The portions are perfect. Quality is top notch. And, the service is lightening fast. Compared to dinner, it's the best value for this caliber of outstanding food as you can get 2 for $12 or 3 dishes for $15. Cool venue, great food and good service. We were a party of 4 for dinner before a concert. It was a Wednesday evening. The concept is vegetable forward dishes, but fear not carnivores, there are meat selections on the menu. You are encouraged to order several items and share them, and so that is what we did. We thoroughly enjoyed the tacos, served on a lazy susan for a playful ( and easy)way to "pass" the dish. The rutabaga carbonara with egg yolk was amazing. We were all very satisfied with the amount of food and variety we consumed. Truly an enjoyable, eclectic offering of unusual food. There is an outdoor patio for warmer weather dining. Parking can be a challenge. The lot for the restaurant is small and street parking is limited, rideshare here to save time and effort hunting for a spot. The restaurant has a nice modern, airy feel. For lunch, you order at the counter and your food is brought to you. The food is "vegetable forward" meaning the focus is on fresh veggies, although the food is not all vegan or even vegetarian. Rob Swanson would hate this place. It's super healthy! My group especially liked the chilled corn soup and the kombucha. The prices for lunch are extremely reasonable- 2 items for $12 or 3 for $15. I live right down the street from here. I've been here a few times now. To start: this place looks really dark from the outside. There are some herbs hanging in the window. The name is a little unfamiliar. To me it really gives off this desolate vibe. It kinda reminds me of the witches house from the tales you tell as a child. It's a little mysterious. BUT when you walk in it's a whole different vibe. It's bright. There are windows everywhere. It's decorated in a modern/urban/farmhouse style. You see the workers in the kitchen. Very focused on their task. I can't watch them for too long though because it kinda stresses me out. They are working HARD! The lead chef is usually standing in the front of the kitchen or running around the restaurant doing tasks like going out to the garden on the side to pick fresh herbs. The lunch is a limited and affordable menu. You order at the bar, grab a table, and they will bring out your food. Dinner is a little more formal. You are sat at a table, and you put your order in with your tables waiter. Overall the feel is like an upscale casual. The menu. So unless you are a foodie, you might be able to identify a few menu items. But a lot may seem unfamiliar. My advice is to close your eyes, point to something, then order it! No really!! Everything is so good you cannot go wrong. I feel like the menu items seem complicated, but the items go together so simply with tons of flavor. You won't be looking at your plate confused about what you have been served. Most things are basic meals with a gourmet upgrade. My (long-overdue) first visit to Vicia was amazing. Went with a friend and we decided to try the tasting menu. What an adventure! I love trying a variety of foods and the first course met that desire perfectly. There were half a dozen different small bites to try. Next, onto cabbage and quail egg - their play on "steak and eggs". The next course was by far my favorite. They took us out to the open fire where a chef was finishing our chicken, mushrooms, homemade sourdough flatbread, and sauces galore. It was delicious to eat fireside. Back to our table for a carrot with some of the best polenta I've ever had. Finally, a sweet potato inspired dessert! Wonderful, unique, and a really fun experience! read more

While the Yelp info suggests the attire as "dressy," it is not. Our waiter was wearing jeans as were many of the other customers. The food okay but the one word that keeps coming to mind is pretentious. As in, while we waited for our final coarse, a bowl of raw corn kernels and a corn cob were placed on the table to help set the tone for the last dinner course. The restaurant looks great but it was very noisy. We had the chef's menu which was fine but they made us get up and walk out to the fireplace on the patio for the third course. We took a family member there for a birthday celebration. First and foremost they are taking Covid restrictions VERY seriously. You have to make reservations ahead and pay in advance to get a seating. After you arrive you can pull up an online drink menu but have to pay for your drinks online, and must pay for each drink and or round of drinks separate, which is odd but again so is Covid. The food comes out in stages. The servers stand as far as they can from you when they talk or deliver food and customers must have their masks on when the server approaches the table. The food itself was good to great. We ordered a veggie based taco app that was large enough for everyone to share. The asparagus soup was actually the star of the show. It was terrific. For the main courses we had pre ordered the beef, pork and cod entrees to share. We found the beef and pork to be extremely rich and heavy. The cod was fresh and delicious. Let me just start by saying that Vicia is not for everyone. They are unabashedly vegetable-forward. There are meat options on the menu, but if you want a meal that is centered around a meat, you are coming to the wrong place. Having said that, the dinner we had was simply incredible - from ambiance, to the dishes themselves, to the service that was provided throughout. But let me start by saying that I had first had a lunch at Vicia and came away not that impressed. But even right afterward, I realized that was much of the fault was mine. Don't blame a restaurant for your poor menu choices, and I made poor menu choices. I ordered a half sandwich, and a half of something else that I can't remember what it was called. The half sandwich had a really good bread and sauce, and the tri-tip beef slices were tasty, but I like more meat on mine. The other item was vegetarian, and had a nice mixture of ingredients for flavor. But ultimately I simply didn't have enough food. I should have gone for the three item combo. My lunchmates ordered different items and uniformly said their soups and other entrees were delicious. Lunch also is a counter order affair, so you don't get the ambiance and service that comes with dinner. So now, on to my dinner. This was just a great evening for us. Service and atmosphere were top notch. There is a modern, understated decoration that is both engaging and relaxing. Service is on par with Tony's, probably above Fleming's or Stoney River. All conversations with the staff (whether server, food deliverers, bus persons, etc.) were uniformly refined, informative, and not at all pretentious. As each plate was brought, the ingredients were explained - which was appreciated because the often included items I'd never had before, and also they informed me as to how the sweet, sour, savory, etc. components worked together or offset each other. So some may say this is to toot their own horns as to how much thought went into the dishes, but I like to know that stuff. It helps me to better appreciate the effects when I am actually consuming the dish. Fresh plates and silverware were brought for each course, and cleared immediately upon finishing a dish. Water never fell below half full/empty with the person adding a nice little flair as she filled glasses. And the server asked if we wanted our hot tea beverages' leaves resteeped - which we did (and was nice to not have to purchase a second serving). All this done unobtrusively, almost in the background. As for the dishes themselves, it is obvious that a good deal of thought went into the ingredients and combinations by the chef. The flavors integrate and build upon each other to give a wonderful complexity, with offsetting sweet vs. sour vs. savory as I indicated above. I won't go into individual selections, but will rather say this applied uniformly to the six different items we chose. Actually, I will say that you must, yes must, get the soft scrambled goose egg for an appetizer. There isn't enough to share, and you aren't going to be willing to do so anyway, so get one per person. It comes in the shell, with shelling beans, horseradish, and cheddar along with the soft scrambled egg - and is whipped to a light foam. We were advised to dip the spoon all the way to the bottom so that all the ingredients could come up together on the spoon for the best flavor. It is hard to describe, except that it was delicious and included a smokiness that set it off. Now I understand from other reviews, and agree, that the menu can be somewhat limited. But given the detail that went into each dish, and how the menu changes frequently, I wouldn't want a wide variety of choices. Besides, the dozen choices we had (which included picking a couple of larger appetizers as main dish selections), was more than enough. As I indicated before, this place definitely won't be for everyone. If you are meat centric, you are out of luck. We had one meat entrée (chicken thigh), and one entrée that could include meat (tacos), the rest had none. And I was fine. Great staff. Great food. Great ambiance. LOVE! The food was so fresh and love that they change their menus every few days. You pick a seat and when you're ready to order you go up to the bar! If you get a drink, they make it there and you pick it up at the end of the bar. I got the Sumac and Apple Shrub Spritz and it was very tasty and refreshing! Once you have ordered you sit back down and they will send you a text message when your food is ready. Once you get the text you just walk over to the kitchen area and it's all on one tray for you to take back to your table! Perfect lunch spot and beats out STL Bread Co without a second thought. I went here a few weeks ago with my cousin for lunch. We each ordered the pick two and were BLOWN away by how fresh and flavorful the food was. I also ordered a coldbrew mint chocolate coffee and it was so yummy I couldn't believe it was coffee and not a cocktail. The lunch was only $11. I will say it again. ONLY 11 DOLLARS. For the quality, portion, and freshness I'm not sure how they do it. The place got busy once it hit noon, so I'd suggest getting there early. The staff was incredible, the environment is perfect, and the food is literally a dream come too--fresh, flavorful, and healthy. I cannot wait to come back and stuff my face! read more

We started the evening at Polite Society for drinks - and should have stayed for dinner. Arrived for a 9pm reservation about 20minutes early, and were advised that we couldn't be sat early because "we like to maintain a nice flow, so everyone has a nice experience". O_o. We decided to sit in the bar and await our experience. The space is *BEAUTIFUL*. My wife suspected something was up when she noticed all of the super try-hard obtuse ingredients in the cocktail menu that didnt flow well or make much sense. She decided to go with wine for dinner - and the hostess shortly came over to advise that our table was ready. The energy in the room was good, our server was lovely. The food was....absolutely abysmal. We eat out relatively frequently all over St. Louis, and the country. What was served here as "local fare" with a supposed emphasis on ingredients was (with one exception) , by far, the worst food I've been served in an upscale eatery in years. We decided to go light - as we were planning on getting dessert elsewhere - so we ordered a Lobster Wrap, Purple Top Turnip Tacos, Curried Carrots with Grill Sauce and last (and least) some kind of potatoes with green garlic. Our suspicions of failitude were confimed when the purple topped turnip tacos came out. These were four tacos, the shell is a thin slice of raw purple topped turnip, filled with two different fillings. One was something something mushrooms and wasnt offensive, the second was filled with what I can only describe as "stale grapenuts, drizzled in bacon grease". Terrible. Next came out the lobster wrap. This was literally a single leaf of bib lettuce with some rubbery lobster meat, a cube of white nectarine and a literal smear of canned tomato paste. It tasted like spaghetti-o's. For real y'all. Following that taste extravaganza, we were treated to the curried carrots in grill sauce. The carrots had almost no flavor whatsoever, which for curried anything seems....odd. Also grill sauce is french for "liquid we scraped off the grill that we grill meat on and drizzle into the bowl with your carrots". Fail. The final assault on our palate for the evening was the something-something potatoes with green garlic. What arrived were potatoes that had quite obviously been par-boiled in water that had been used to boil other potatoes and were stored there for a while. How do I know? Remember the boiled potatoes from your public school lunch when you were a kid? The gummy, pasty, oddly flavored monstrosities? I got to re-live that last night with some dill and green garlic on top. So - we were really disappointed. The space is beautiful, our server was lovely and the wine was great. The food was literally the worst I've had in years. We love local fresh sustainable food. The secret to serving it is to let the ingredients stand on their own, doing just enough preparation and seasoning to support them - and let them be the stars. This place is trying way too hard. I'd describe it succinctly as "all show, no go". Fix the food, the rest is nice. read more

Vicia is a lovely concept. It occupies a beautiful space. The service was top-notch. That I where my infatuation with the place ends. The farm-to-table restaurant does not mean one should walk away hungry. We are not in a time of famine. Between myself and my boyfriend we ordered two snacks, one starter and two full entrées. The PLT was a deconstructed version of the classic sandwich, sans bread. Two lettuce leaves, 4 slivers of prociutto, a spattering of aioli and rhubarb mustard with a bit of pickled rhubarb. The turnip tacos were good, however I would choose mushroom over pork. There are four per order. Again, they are tiny, think baby turnip on a mandoline. The rutabaga carbonara we shared was the highlight of the meal. The flavors were well-balanced and complex. I asked for pepper and they had to dig some out of the pantry to offer me. (Major pet-peeve of mine when a chef refuses to allow salt and pepper at the table...each person's palate is unique, I don't care how good you are at your job). The entrées we chose were the Beef Fat carrot and the Berkshire Pig. The Beef Fat Carrot was just that. A carrot cooked in beef fat served on a wood plate. The Carrot was clumsily paired with a bowl of polenta, creamed spinach, and bolognese sauce. I'm not sure how one is supposed to compliment the other. Individually these sides were tasty, but together they don't make sense. It was texturally lacking. The Berkshire Pig was a sliver of meat so fatty it was unpalatable, accompanied by another fattier piece of meat, flavorless horseradish sauce, two pieces of roasted turnips, and a spoonful of purée. I couldn't be bothered to eat that dish. We actually left our entrées and paid the check, which was an astounding $150. In fairness we did have some fantastic manhattans with our meal. I hope this place succeeds but I'm not convinced it will last once it has lost it's shine in the spotlight of the St. Louis food scene. The decor here reminds me of upscale restaurants on the West Coast and the chefs here know their flavors. The day has finally arrived!!! Vicia is open!! I went for the soft opening 3/20. In order to have a quick lunch service, you form a line, order and pay at the bar, then take your seat. You will receive a text when your order is ready. Lunch will change daily, but I'm assuming there will always be some variety of salad, soup, and sandwich to choose from. The pick 2 or pick 3 options are smaller portions of the main dishes. The food is healthy, fresh, and carefully composed. Pay parking is available on street out front. Vicia is definitely something different. If you are looking for a new perspective on fine dining and food in a broad sense, Vicia will play that role. The space is welcoming and very well designed, especially the patio that features poured concrete and a massive modern hearth at one end. Tables are either 2, 4 or communal. Our service was fantastic from Nick. He was very knowledgeable about the wine list and nuances about ingredients. His descriptions were helpful and spot on. We definitely learned some new bits from him. Cocktails were sensuous, each featuring an aromatic: Fennel, Rose, Hop and Citrus. Prices are fair at $9 for a complex cocktail. Wine list was exceptional, showing interesting varietals from Austria, Greece and Eastern Europe. Bottle prices were also fair, without a significant jump from BTG to full bottles. Cheese board with 3 interesting iterations of familiar cheeses: aged Gouda, Bleu Cheddar and a washed rind cheese that was memorable. Local honey. Root purree and walnuts. Speck rollups with greens and weeds, dipped in a tarragon emulsion. Slight touch of tarragon and citrus, then very bitter from the greens. Looked to be dandelion, arugala and more. However, I'm probably wrong. These two themes would continue: bitter greens and me not really understanding what I was eating. Celery root carbonara was rich with plenty of bacon. Traditional flavors with a chewy veg noodle. Beet tartare was also rich with fantastic focaccia. It was essentially a citrus spiked purree with delicious egg fat. Best dish of the night. We ordered 2 of the 3 mains. Turnips with beef neck and farro with horseradish vinaigrette was a bowl of braised 'pot roast' flavors. I realize now that I don't like turnips. Too sour and mealy for me. Grilled King oyster mushrooms with wilted weeds, polenta and charred veg molé was a creative riff on a tamale, or other Mexican flavors. Cumin and coriander evident in the sauce. Greens were far too bitter and medicinal for me. Wife dug them. Didn't do dessert, but left super full and with a bag of leftovers. Four stars because this is a challenging concept, and some of the flavors have more intellectual purpose than purely for flavor, so I think we will need to grow into this one. Appreciate the Union Loafers bread and menu design very much. Looking forward to how this changes with the seasons (or even micro-seasons). In total, this is a fine experience, but one you definitely have to carefully consider who to invite to join you next time. read more

OMG!!! My husband surprised me with dinner reservations here last night for our one year wedding anniversary! We're both self proclaimed foodies so we love trying new and unique places. Vicia did not disappoint! Walking it the ambiance is so lovely. The hostesses were polite and friendly. We were immediately seated and met our waitress. She explained how their menu works and swiftly took our drink orders. We decided to do the 3 course tasting menu as it let us try more dishes without an obscene amount of food. The first course came and our table was COVERED with small places with beautiful food. We had the bread with the amazing dips/spreads, different varieties of fresh radish, dates, oysters, and the turnip tacos. They were all so amazing and so flavorful. I could not get over how good those tacos were....absolutely no meat but never missed it! For the main course we had a chicken dish, pork dish, the polenta, the fried rice, and a fresh green salad. Again, SO DAMN GOOD!!! Every dish was so fresh and flavorful. All had unique ingredients and flavors, each better than the last. The pork belly was melt in your mouth amazing and the polenta was so rich and flavorful. I was super surprised by the fried rice and the flavors that were in it. Can't put my finger on what it was but I wanted more! For the dessert round we had a custard dish with chocolate sorbet and cherries and some assorted truffles and marshmallows with a sweet candle to blow out since we were celebrating! My husband isn't the biggest dessert guy but he loved the balance of flavors and textures in the custard dish. I thought all of the offerings were so tasty! Overall we will definitely be back! Vicia is doing something different in St. Louis and is very much worth checking out. I made a reservation online a couple weeks in advance and I think Vicia is going to be a hot ticket reservation so you might want to start planning now. This was an intentional date night for my husband and myself before diving back into a ridiculous schedule at work the next 3 months. If you're looking for a novel date place in St. Louis I think Vicia might fit the bill. It's a bit loud so perhaps not the best restaurant if you're looking for quiet and romantic but the restaurant space itself is beautiful and the service is superb and they're serving food that just can't be found elsewhere in St. Louis. They have that nice touch with the service where every dish served gets a little extra description for how you should eat it and what all the ingredients are on the plate from the staff. This style point in service is found in restaurants that genuinely care about every detail of the food they serve. We started with the prosciutto roll ups which were a nice refreshing start to the meal. Prosciutto pairs nicely with the slightly bitter greens inside. There were 4 to a serving but they are small and light so we easily devoured them between the two of us. We moved on to the goose egg and rutabaga carbonara. The goose egg is a true stand out dish. Creamy and savory and packed with flavor in every bite. It sounded interesting on the menu for sure and I was thinking about ordering it but this was the first "must have" suggestion from our server and she was spot on. The rutabaga added a different note to the carbonara and I think this is what they mean when they say this place is "vegetable forward." While there is still plenty of good old meat on the menu they sneak veggies into dishes in unexpected ways. For entrees my husband had the beef fat carrot and I elected for the scallops since our server told us it was their last night on the menu. While the scallops were nice and refreshing the beef fat carrot with the polenta and beef bolognese on the side was a total elevation of comfort food. I probably would have opted for that again over the scallops next time. The carrot again was a recommendation from the server as the highlight entree for the night. I think their servers clearly know the food well here so I think next time I go (and I want to go back) I'll pretty much just stick with their suggestions. I had the Anne's Garden panna cotta for dessert while my husband had the hazelnut financier. I loved that their desserts were not too sweet. The Anne's Garden dessert is also a beautiful presentation and a perfect sweet but not too rich ending. Too often I end up not ordering dessert because it's just too rich but I think you should feel free to order dessert here since they don't over do it. read more

What an incredible experience. We promised our son and his fiancée a dinner at Vicia since they escaped from New York months ago. With their stay coming to an end and the restaurant still only serving curbside pickup, we asked how we could have a special dinner. Vicia staff set up a table in the garden, and we picked up courses as best we could. This was the most fun 'picnic' ever. The food was incredible as always. Each dish was special and artfully prepared. The special touches like a bouquet of fresh flowers and a bottle of sparkling wine really made this a special meal. Just returned from my birthday dinner. We had the tasting menu. Nothing short of phenomenal!! Was stuffed at the end, but not in a bad way. HIGHLIGHTS -tomato/watermelon bites, so well composed -a build it yourself naan flatbread. Could eat this everyday -nectarines and prosciutto salty/sweet amazing! -cantaloupe sorbet as part of the dessert. So luscious was unbelievable... Not cheap, but well worth the money. Absolutely delicious... definitely recommend! Turnip tacos with mushrooms and kale were our first course. Rutabaga carbonara and the goose egg were an outstanding second course. I couldn't decide which was better - both rich and eggy! Main course- we shared the pig with parsnip and pickled rhubarb and the carrot with polenta and beef bolognese. The carrot was definitely superior. Cocktails- the Fennel was so good. We had the cherry without the sweet (syrup on the side) which was also very good. Go, you will enjoy!!! read more

I really, really enjoyed my lunch at Vicia. It is so unique and extremely flavorful. I am a big salt and pepper person and nothing I ate needed either, which is saying a lot! I love their unique uses of veggies and wouldn't hesitate to come back for lunch or dinner. I had the chilled soup, an open faced tomato sandwich, and the grains salad and all were fantastic! Amazing! I definitely recommend trying the crab salad and the rutabaga carbonara as an appetizer. I absolutely LOVED them. Everything is cooked fresh in the kitchen and plated with great precision and thought. The wine selection is amazing, as was our server Iva! Definitely would recommend for a date night, but make a reservation and make sure you both arrive at the same time or ride together because they will not seat you unless your whole party is present. read more
