I think during the initial consultation, my wife was a little hesitant because she is very direct. However those hesitations were quickly put to rest. Michelle took very good care of my wife during our visits and was very flexible. Her apprentices were kind and respectful as well. She listened to my wife's concerns and either put them to rest or explained why xyz was necessary. This was our second child, but our first home birth. She explained the process and ran out to our home even when it was a just having Braxton Hicks. During the actual birth she was calm and collected and allowed us to kinda do our thing, although there was a few times that she was direct. During the birth itself, she allowed me to actually pull my little one out, which was such an awesome and unique experience that I will be able to cherish for the rest of my life. She researches & looks for alternative treatments that WORK. She has an associate, Dr. Mael, who is also a chiropractor. I have seen him, as well, and totally trust BOTH of them with my back! I was learning things from them that would make things easier during labor (I did not get this type of service from an Ob/Gyn and I had 3 kids before the home birth). It was much more than I could have asked for. My husband enjoyed the whole process. He said it was easier than having a hospital birth. He did not have to take the sleeping kids anywhere and they were able to sleep during the delivery. I was not pressured into doing anything I was not comfortable with. We also felt well prepared for the birth by taking classes that were part of Mandy's package - taught by Genieveve (her back up midwife). During the labor Mandy and her students gave helpful suggestions for breathing and positions, but they also gave us plenty of space to let the birth progress naturally. When our baby girl did finally arrive, it felt like we were among family who was just as excited and joyful as we were to welcome this sweet little one into the world. After the birth, Mandy and her students changed the sheets, started the laundry, helped us with the first diapers, showed us how to hold a newborn, and helped establish breastfeeding. Mandy and her team were true baby whisperers. They were so sweet, loving, and tender with our newborn baby. My wife and I felt like we had the best birth experience possible. It was so nice to be in our quiet house after such an amazing and intense experience. We also felt very safe and reassured through the entire process. Mandy is a true expert and professional. I first went to Nina Powers in 2004 when my shoulder, as a result of my back being poorly aligned, tied itself into a knot and refused to come undone. Nina was the only person who could meet me at 8 PM, which was when I got done with work, and after an hour-long massage, I felt like a new person. I went to Nina just last week, six days before my sister's wedding in New Engalnd, because I lifted a heavy table and completely messed up my back. She was kind enough to see me the day I called, worked on me for nearly two hours, until almost 10 PM on a Friday night. I spent the rest of the weekend recovering, but I firmly believe that the only thing that helped me get on the road to recovery and kept me out of the pain doctor's office getting another steroid injection was because of Nina's work! I rode horses for many years and we constantly were evaluating them for lameness issues, trying to find the source of their leg or back pain.
