Will seriously never go to another type of chiropractor ever again. I don't understand why anyone goes anywhere else. NUCCA is SO. MUCH. BETTER. I was having some TMJ issues, so I went to a traditional chiropractor about a year ago. I had to have him pop my neck and jaw 3x/week for 12 weeks. It didn't feel like I was getting any better, and in fact, I think I was probably getting worse. I had the constant feeling of needing to pop my neck myself. That's when I did research and found out about gentle NUCCA. No popping of the neck, just very precise alignment of the top two vertebrae. It has been amazing! Along with many other things I've tried, this has helped my TMJ issues calm down. But I also just feel so much more aligned. AND I only have to go like twice a month now, probably once a month eventually. So the initial investment is a lot, but it will definitely save you money over time. I have been suffering for 2 years from back problems from the neck and up to the lower back. I have been going to physical trainers and chiropractors. They did their own nice work. I was experiencing discomfort in my back after working in some cheap office chairs (lots of other coworkers experienced the same). I was recommended to see Dr Laura. Now I've been to a few chiropractors before and never stuck with it -- they'd crack my back and take my $20 but nothing would improve and whenever I'd ask hard hitting questions I would be left unsatisfied. NUCCA is a lesser known form of chiropractic care and it really does work. Within months of seeing Dr Laura my back problems went away, I am no longer in pain. Being a software engineer, I'm always sitting down and don't always have the best posture, so I come in regularly for minor adjustments/check ins. At one point last year I was feeling a lot of pain in my wrists. She gave me some stretches to do, which I now do regularly, and the wrist pain is something of the past. Very expensive and very overrated approach to care; in my experience. A lot of fancy images up front, lots of fancy talk. No real follow through on the 'precision analysis' given up front - that you pay so much for but then doesn't seem to matter as the sessions continue. No results. After months of waiting for my spine to "wind down' and correct the issues I was having. I spent a lot of money there and had very little change. Upon leaving a friend suggested just a regular old school Chiropractor, and my pain was gone in one session. Would never recommend this place to anyone. Save your money. Dr. Scott Sweeney did amazing things to help my back. OMG. I have had a back problem for about 20 years. A serious chronic one. Been to just about every kind of doctor. Did not want to go to a chiropractor because I figured that stuff doesn't work. OMG. Wow, what a difference this has made for me! Okay I'll calm down and explain why this particular chiropractor/technique/office works. The technique used by chiropractors in this office is called NUCCA. You can see a lot about it at www.nucca.org. It's very different from other forms of chiropractic work. There is no twisting or cracking. Everything is done in a neutral position. They work primarily on your atlas, which is the bone just beneath your skull, the top one on your spine. On your first visit, they take x-rays and very careful measurements of your atlas in relation to your skull. If this positioning is off just a little bit, it can throw your body off, because the rest of your body tries to compensate for the incorrect angle of your head in relation to your spine. This can cause shoulder, back, and, I guess other kinds of problems such as pain that comes from nerves being pinched. The correction for this is very gentle. They just put a little pressure on the area just below your ear. It seems like it shouldn't work, but it does - did for me, at least. The amazing thing about this type of adjustment is that it seems to hold really well, so you don't need as much follow up as you would with typical chiropractic work. I can't say much for chiropractors in general, except that if you're going to go to one GO TO THIS OFFICE. The price is quite high on your first visit, which lasts several hours, about $400. But follow-up visits are about $50 each follow-up. Check about insurance, I think it would depend on your carrier. But it seems to work a lot better than other things, so if you want something to actually WORK, I'd point you in this direction. No guarantees, just a good shot at feeling better long-term. read more

I cannot begin to express how amazing my treatment by Dr. Sweeny has been! He communicates every detail of his treatment and spends as much time as you need answering your questions. I have been going to Back N Balance because of my TMJ. I have been suffering for 1/2 a year now and was reccommend to see him by my dentist. I was pain free after one visit to him. I now go regularly to maintain my health. Unlike a great deal of chiropractors he is not a total quack. He does no back/neck cracking or any other extreme treatments. I have been going here for several years and see Dr. Shelly Lorenzen. Sunday I made the mistake of exercising and developed a severe back pain. So I scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Shelly. Within minutes I felt 100% better. Still have a sleight pain but so much better today! They are very reasonable, $55 per visit after the initial cost of X Ray and evaluation which is about $450 (it's been a long time so don't remember the exact amount). I only wish I had gone sooner! The atlas adjustment changed my whole body's alignment and cleared my head. Took a little to adjust to the new feelings and changes, but so impressed with the simplicity of the healing process with NUCCA. I was able to release physical and emotional limitations I had had for decades. I am also doing Nutrition Response Testing at Better Body Clinical Nutrition, and I managed to hold the adjustment for the whole first month and even get some adjustments from Dr. Laura on my lower spine. I see Dr Laura Ferrao at this clinic and she has helped me with some chronic neck, back, shoulder and just all-over body pain. The most impressive part for me was the incredible level of precision in the initial assessment and Xrays. The upfront cost was about $400 for the assessment & xrays, the 3 - 4 subsequent visits, even when an xray is taken, are about $55. Dr. Laura helped me with some neck and shoulder pain that I was having while I was undergoing cancer treatments last fall. If I could give 10 stars I would!!! I was involved in back to back car wrecks where I was rear ended at a fast speed while I was stopped. I have spent the last couple of years going to chiropractors for help and getting a little relief thinking that the rest of the pain was just something I was going to have to live with. I have been seeing Dr. Gregg for 11 years now. She is a true healer. I went in to see Laura because I was experiencing serious headaches after workouts along with some nagging neck and lower back pain. Went to Dr. Janis Frahm for several years and was always thoroughly pleased; instead of paying by hour, you pay until your adjustment is complete, which she determines by checking your weight balance/distribution and such on a special scale they have. I had gone to one previous chiropractor in Austin before going to Janis and he was awful in comparison and had drained me for money I didn't have to spare when I desperately needed service. Back N Balance is the opposite -- everyone I met there -- all the doctors and even the office employees -- were very caring and personable and work hard to meet your needs. If your doctor is going to be out of town, they will let you know in advance and schedule appointments around their time away for you, and if anything comes up, another doctor will see you ASAP, and they are all very good. (Though I highly recommend Dr. Frahm!) They practice a technique called NUCCA, which is a national organization that requires certification that very few chiropractors are certified for (for example, in all of Atlanta, there is only 1 NUCCA-certified chiropractor!), and it is amazing. And they will be sure to tell you all about it upfront so you know what is going on, and also what to do to help yourself after each treatment. (You won't necessarily require more than one or an occasional one depending on your situation, I just happened to have decades of untreated problem, and so was going once every 2 to 3 weeks for several years, but this was unusual for their patients, I believe.) Anyways, NUCCA is a much better practice than the type practiced by the chiropractors that have contributed to the "quack" chiropractor lore, such as my previous chiropractor who used the "cracking" technique (which was indeed scary as well!). With NUCCA, there is no cracking, which is fantastic. Even my new chiropractor in my new city, who practices a "sister technique" to NUCCA, could not hold a candle in comparison, and so I have only gone to the chiropractor once since leaving Austin. If I ever need treatment again and there is no NUCCA chiropractor nearby, I would go all the way to Austin just to go to Back N Balance! read more

I had my first visit to a Chiropractor with Dr. Laura at Back N Balance. I wasn't sure what to expect. I had increasing pain in my hip that had limited my exercise, and occasional severe pain in my neck that scared me. I waited six months for an appointment with Patricia and I am glad I did. I had chronic neck pain and after about six to eight months of adjustments, I am pain free. I have to say I got discouraged in the 6 to 8 month period of adjustments. i was spending a lot of money and the adjustments were not holding. I almost gave up. Back N Balance offers a different kind of chiropractic care. They specialize in adjusting the atlas, the top vertebrae that supports the skull. They are the only NUCCA chiropractors in Texas. Through injury or trauma, the atlas can become misaligned and affect the spinal cord negatively, thus interfering with messages between the brain and the body. I had a minor scoliosis for DECADES that caused intermittent back pain, left-right imbalance in hips and shoulders, and muscle tightness and spasm. I've done Iyengar yoga since 1998 and seen practitioners of many kinds seeking relief--Rolfers, regular chiropractors, DOs, massage therapists, etc. Each of these has helped me feel better but did not get my vertebrae aligned--the basis of the problem. In two visits to Back N Balance, my spine was aligned! They don't work with health insurance but give you a receipt so you can file. The cost of the initial exam (with x-rays and adjustments) is about $400 ($250 for children). If your atlas is aligned, there's no need to keep going. Followup visits are around $50 each ($25 for children). This has been some of THE BEST MONEY I HAVE EVER SPENT! My spine just untwisted! And...they are very nice people who love their work. read more
