I had the cuban sandwich and only because If it has hype I'd expect that something like a Cuban Sandwich, a staple, should out perform anything. But it was subpar, I wouldnt have it again. What was really delicious was their chicken salad, so good, i bought some to go along with some cuban crackers and ate them by the pool the next day. Service was great, the lady who took care of us was really nice, I forgot her name, I think it started with a D. she was really nice. I think there are better Cuban restaurants in Miami which is why I give 3 stars. My friends visiting had this on their list - I can see why, it is a heavy tourist spot and the wait was 1.5 hours. My favorite meal in Miami was the beef tongue at Versailles. it was soooo good! The tongue was tender and fatty and served with moros rice (black beans and rice) and fried plantains. I also had a cuban espresso and a slice of key lime pie - both were very good! We showed up around 3pm on a Wednesday, and still had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. As the sign says Versailles advertises itself as the world's largest Cuban restaurant. Worlds largest, certainly doesn't mean worlds best. Versailles seems focused on getting as many people through the door for commercialized food than actually serving a home style meal for a family. Versailles is large and they pack people in. It's very bright and loud inside. To me it was very much a production line meal instead of something that is made with love and care. It's just the vibe we picked up on. Our service was spotty and I get it there were a lot of tables. We just felt forgotten about a few times while waiting and there were no drink refills. The food was ok, but just didn't do it for me. Some places you click with and others not so much. All this after waiting over an hour for a table. There is a separate bakery off the main restaurant and we did enjoy the warm empanadas offered at the bakery. They were actually better than the meals we had inside. read more

Only wanted to visit Miami for the famous Pastelitos de Guayaba (Guava pastries.) Thankfully, a friend of mine ordered a bunch to try. I tried the plain guava filling and the guayaba con queso (guava with cheese) one. I'm a guava fanatic and love the guava flavor. If you're like me, I suggest you get the plain guava to enjoy its flavor. Otherwise, I found the cheese to mask the full guava taste- it was just okay to me. I was extremely excited, but found them a bit underwhelming overall. I will be lenient and give a 3/5 since I wasn't physically at the shop to have them fresh and enjoy the ambiance. I love the guava filling, but the pastry itself wasn't anything spectacular. I do wish more guava filling was added and less, thinner pastry. I don't know why, but in my head and based off TV food programs, I thought the guava or pastry would be more exquisite or unique tasting. But, I realized it's something I could easily make at home (and I have- they taste similar to Versailles.) I sadly didn't get a wow factor from Versailles, but still good guava filling read more

Looking at its popularity I kind of felt like I was walking into a tourist trap, but after dining here I understand WHY Versailles is mega popular! Everything we ordered was so, so good. Even the yuca fries were the best I've ever had. Granted, I am from California so I don't eat too much Cuban food normally. But I do know when something is delicious and perfectly cooked. Interestingly, I thought the croquettes here are way better than the bakery next door. My recommendation: skip the bakery and order your fried goods here. Good variety of Cuban food with quick service. We are mostly impressed with the stuffed green plantain, the plantain was crispy when it's hot, and absorbed all the juice when it's lukewarm, both texture is amazing and the stuffing is absolutely fresh and tasty. We ordered the combo with fried pork, beef, yuca fires, sweet plantain, tamales, etc, as well as the classic Cuban sandwich. I liked the fried pork and sweet plantain, but the rest was not as impressive. Still I'm glad they provide a good selection with affordable price. There are a lot of tables with fast turnaround. On our first visit to Little Havana Miami, we heard about this place and couldn't have imagined how big it really is. There is the main restaurant, La Ventanita (the To-Go window) and the Bakery. Once you check in, they will not seat your party unless everyone is there. We got seated in the front of the restaurant for dinner. There was a bit of a wait, but not long maybe about 10-15 mins. We are in Miami for business trip. Overheard from friend about this Cuban restaurant in Little Havana. Uber first dropped us off at the Versailles Bakery, not knowing the restaurant is next door. But was happy to see all the variety of pastries and cakes. Later was told to go to the restaurant to have a sit down meal. We wait approx 15 mins in the middle of the afternoon on Wednesday. The place was still crowded with local and tourists. Is not. Fancy restaurant, but is a clean and nice dine in place. The servers were very nice and helpful. For 2 of us, we ordered so much foods. Came here for a late dinner and was shocked there was still a wait at 10pm! It was a fairly large restaurant, so I thought it was odd they still had groups waiting outside for tables to open up. We were a large group of 13 people so I'm not surprised with our wait but for a table of four I expected a quick seating. While we waited we went to their bakery window and had some Cuban coffee and pastries to hold us over for our 45 min wait. The Cuban coffee was very well prepared and a hit with the group, the pastries were fine, nothing exceptional. We were seated within the 45 minute wait time. The inside reminded me of a diner and the menu had a similar feel. The three people I sat with shared the paella, lengua(beef tongue), a chimichurri steak, and the oxtail. The best was a tie between the oxtail and paella but the worst was the lengua. I really like beef tongue but it was too thick and making the texture of the dish unappetizing. The sauce it was prepared in was very flavorful but the preparation needed better execution. The oxtail was tender and the tomato sauce was delicious. The rice in the paella was properly cooked and the seasoning didn't overpower the seafood which I appreciated. When ever I am in Miami this is my go to spot. The inside reminds me of a place my grandma used to take me to on Castle Hill avenue in the Bronx. Let's talk about the food. If there is a line, for me it's worth the wait. The Cuban sandwich was the first item I've had from here and have been getting it since I worked on a cruise ship in 2007. It's perfectly put together and for me not overly salty considering it's meat and cheese. The yuca fries were a nice edition to my normal just eat a sandwich and go. We went to Versailles during our staycation in Little Havana. We arrived late around 10:00 p.m. and were told that it would be about a 40-minute wait. This was fine, as they have a nice outdoor area with tables, high tops, and a bar to enjoy while you wait! The place was hopping even though it was well passed dinnertime. We ordered a mojito at the outdoor bar, which was delicious and very authentic, and we were seated within 30 minutes. The menu is wonderful and they have a ton of options with a heavy Cuban influence. We started with the yuca croquettes (4pcs), which were strongly recommended by both a good friend of mine from Miami and the waiter himself. For our meals we both went the sandwich route, me getting the Famous Cuban sandwich (when in Little Havana!) and my boyfriend getting the Calle Ocho Special. Many of their sandwiches sounded good and seemed like different variations of the Cuban, many containing turkey, ham, pork & cheese. I also recommend the Red Sangria - it was very fruity and the peaches in it gave it a unique and refreshing flavor. The sandwiches are pretty big. If you have a full appetite and go very hungry you can likely finish it, but we each took half of ours home and had it for dinner the next night. We were very pleasantly surprised at how cheap the prices were! Coming from South Beach, we're grudgingly accustomed to a minimum of at least $100 person for a nice dinner with drinks, and Versailles came out to $43 per person with drinks and tip. The ambiance was adequate, it was brightly lit on the inside with white tablecothes and paper placemats. The service was excellent however! Our waiter, Felix, was very timely and efficient. Our drinks and food came out perfectly timed. He also was helpful in answering a couple questions that we had about the menu and deciding what to order. I very highly recommend Versailles if you are visiting little Havana! I don't believe they take reservations, but as long as it's nice weather outside, which in Miami is often, you can pass the time in the outdoor waiting area with a delicious cocktail in hand. read more

This restaurant with its Cuban sandwich featured in the 2014 movie "Chef," so no wonder it was busy and took 45 minutes to get in. Service was very efficient. The ceviche appetizer was full of flavor, and the squid appetizer was surprisingly good. The signature Cuban sandwich was plain, with no tangy sauce or interesting seasoning, just plain mustard. The roast pork Cuban style had a rich and hearty sauce but wasn't as tender as I'd hoped. The Cuban sampler was a good choice because the menu was so overwhelming - though the cassava was very bland. Welcome to Little Havana. This spot has a big sign out front that says "the world's most famous Cuban restaurant" and we were told by a local that we had to stop by during our first-ever trip to Miami. Because it's popular, it is very crowded, although they handle the crowds well. The restaurant is HUGE with a massive dining room, tons of tables, and a big bakery next door too. While you wait for your table, they have a large tent outside with a mojito bar for you to enjoy your wait. We were there at about 2pm on a weekday, so I'd expect for there to always be a wait. The wait went fairly quickly though and we were excited to hear our name called. We sat down in the air conditioned restaurant and it revived our spirits. My husband ordered a Cuban and I ordered the paella. We also shared a ropa vieja for the table. My paella was delicious and had lovely pieces of shrimp in it. The Cuban was hugeeee and was basically two large sandwiches. It was delicious, as was the ropa vieja too. Our server was nice and quick, they had an extensive menu, and the prices were great. Scheduled a Cruise for us out of Miami to Get Away & Relax we did just that in our transportation to Versailles. Since Carnival would not let me bring the Vette-Jet, we had to get some type of transportation to get around Miami. I was hoping to see James Crockett and borrow his Ferrari Daytona Spyder but I think he moved to San Francisco, changed his name to Nash Bridges and is driving a bright Yellow Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda' (that would also do just fine) - So, with the help from Karen (front desk of our Hotel) I scheduled a Driver to pick us up in a Mercedes and we Relaxed all the way to Versailles - nothing but Class for my Baby. When at the Restaurant, we checked in with the Hostess, who happens to be set up outside by the Front Door with a lot of people all around the patio. Name is on the list and our wait time is only a few minutes. Versailles not only has this Awesome Restaurant, but on the Open Patio they also have a Very Nice Outside Bar - and they also have a Walk-Up Coffee Window where you can obtain their Famous 'Cuban Cafecito', a small shot of Coffee with a sweet, luscious topping called 'la crema' - and that's not all - they also have ''Versailles Bakery" where they sell Pastries, Breads & Desserts made from scratch - and if that isn't enough, they also have "Cafe Versailles" located in Concourse 'D' at Miami International Airport. The Restaurant is open from 8am until Midnight and on Fri & Sat until 1am. This place is Very Popular. Soon our name was called and we where shown to our table. Versailles is Huge inside and our table is in the front part of the restaurant. Upon seating we were handed Menus to look over and soon Liset, our Server, came over. Placed out drink order - "Mojitos" - because when in Miami you order Mojitos. We were looking over the Menus when Lisa brought out our drinks and also waters. There is a lot on the Menu here and it's hard trying to decide - but we did. My Wife is having the "Versailles Salad"; with Chicken Breast, mixed Field Greens with Mango, Candied Pecans & Goat Cheese tossed in a Honey Balsamic Vinaigrette. I am going with their "Imperial Rice"; Rice cooked with Saffron & Deboned Chicken, Mayonnaise, Roasted Red Bell Peppers, Hard Boiled Egg & Green Peas. Served with Sweet Plantains - topped off with Swiss Cheese. While we waited for our food one does a little 'people watching', especially in a city you haven't been to in a while. In, San Angelo you see a lot of Cowboy Hats but none here in Miami. We toasted to 'us' and the Mojitos is the right choice - Very Tasty and Strong on the Mint - and I might ad, Versailles serves Beautiful Mojitos - and it's really good. Soon our food arrived and both plates are a Beautiful Presentation of Deliciousness. My Wife's 'Versailles Salad' has the Chicken Breast all spread out across the top of the Salad - and it's Huge. It looks like it could be a 'Chicken Steak' - and she said it was Tender-Licious and very Flavorful. The Fresh Greens are Delicious and the Candied Pecans are Crunchy-Sweet with the Goat Cheese the only way to go on this Salad. She enjoyed it all. I wanted to try something different and this 'Imperial Rice' is just that. The Swiss Cheese on top is like a Thick Blanket, and I mean THICK - it's Swisslylicious and Very Unique. The Rice is flavorful with all the nice size Deboned Chicken throughout. Their Sweet Plantains are the Best in Miami, even though I have not tried every place in Miami that serves them, but I cannot fathom any place that would be better than this. We finished it all and had no room for Dessert - and I know it would of been Delicious. Liset earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for all that she did - and this place was Really Busy. Right when someone leaves their table, a staff member cleans it up, resets it and the next Customer is shown to their table. Nicely organized. The back room is more for larger groups and we didn't go back there this time - but it's Beautiful - and I know is packed with Happy Customers. My Wife and I had a nice ride back to the Hotel and slept very well in our room - which was Huge. When you are in Miami, Versailles Restaurant is the place to eat at - Check'em out On-Line. But if you are a local Cuban person who never goes to Versailles and eats at your own preferred Cuban establishment/establishments in your own neighborhood and for whatever reason one day you tell yourself "hey I haven't eaten at Versailles in forever" well there's a reason that you haven't. It's not the worst Cuban food. And it isn't expensive. But there are so many better places that are likely within a stones throw of wherever you live and not filled with tourists either. read more

While on a business trip in the Brickell area, I was told that Cuban food and specifically Versailles was a must. We gathered a group of 10 and made our way to the restaurant around 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. To my surprise, the restaurant was lively, busy, and full of the hustle and bustle at that hour. We were told there would be a ~30 min wait prior to getting seated so we took that as an opportunity to have some fresh empanadas and cafecito at the Versailles bakery next door. I'm so glad we did because it was such a fun and memorable experience! We were seated after ~25 mins of waiting. The look and feel of the restaurant was homely and simple. Our server was attentive and helpful; she made our experience fun after realizing we were a group of coworkers on a business trip. I ordered arroz con pollo with frijoles negro on the side because I wanted immerse myself in the full authentic experience. The beans were delicious! The rice and chicken was hearty and flavorful.
