Hello San Fernando Valley family, Yesterday I went to buy lunch at Versalles in Encino to eat at home. I ordered arroz con pollo and roast pork. When I got home -- I live 15 minutes from the restaurant -- the roast pork had a strong rotten smell. I initially thought the smell was coming from outside, so I decided to take a small bite just to check. Well, without going into too much detail, I've been dealing with unbearable diarrhea ever since. Why would you do this? What's the need to sell food in such poor condition to customers -- especially when life has become so expensive? Who's going to pay my Kaiser bill now? Food poisoning isn't just unpleasant -- it's dangerous. Please be responsible. Versailles you guys have been doing this for more that 20 years!!! read more

Very friendly staff! Nothing bad to say about the food! It just wasn't what my parents were expecting, lechon was a bit Too sour for their taste, but it's definitely bias because they aren't used to Cuban food! Will go back again and try the Ox Tail! Came here with my partner on a Wednesday night around 8 pm. We were aware it was close to closing so we decided to look at the menu quickly and eat quickly. There was a couple that came in after us and were still sat. The place is spacious and clean. Not many decorations that I could see and basic tables. Pretty casual. It's cool that you can see into the kitchen. Our server took our drinks shortly after we were sat and was quick and efficient throughout the meal. They seemed busy doing other things and we weren't bothered at all that they didn't check on us throughout the meal, except to refill our waters, deliver food, provide to-go containers, and the check. We were out in about 35 minutes with bellies full and satisfied! We decided to order the Papas Rellenas (fried potato and meat balls), lechon asado (Cuban style roasted pork), and famoso pollo Versailles (Versailles famous garlic chicken). We didn't specify white rice & black beans or morro y cristianos (rice and beans cooked together) but we were fine either way. Both dishes ended up being white rice & black beans separately which we were completely fine with but I'd like to try the other option sometime. The food came out very quick and piping hot each time. First was a basket of small pieces of bread toasted with butter. This didn't get refilled but we ate every last bite! Nothing super special but still yummy. Then came the potato balls. Absolutely delicious. We got 4 of them for $6.50. They are smaller than Porto's but had a lot more flavor. they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. What really made the dish was the green sauce that came with it. It made it lighter and dare I say almost refreshing! The entrees then came out. Both dishes had the same sour tangy savory sauce on the meat. Both were delicious but would try to get 2 more different options next time (I had suggested trying a different pork dish but my partner insisted). He ended up liking the pork more because the sauce permeated the pieces of meat more (it was almost pulled pork texture but with more chunks, makes sense). However I liked the chicken more. I shredded the chicken and dipped it in the sauce, giving the same effect. What the chicken had that the pork didn't was the SUPER CRISPY skin! The skin was where most of the flavor was and the texture of it was perfect. The crispy skin with the soft and juicy meat was heaven. Of course both dishes went excellent with the sweet plantains, rice, and black beans that the dishes came with. The raw onion was a little much for us but it added some refreshing, crisp, sharp, and slightly bitter flavor. We stuffed ourselves so much and I found myself eating little bites here and there while we waited for the check. Overall with tip came out to under $60 with half of both entrees to take home. Unfortunately the food was not memorable. The service lacked. Every time I go to a Cuban restaurant, I ordered Ravi Encendido for the flavor and spice but this wine was insipid. My wife ordered her grilled chicken breast and it was not cooked properly, as she had originally ordered it, well done and it came pink on the inside. We had to asked to get it the way we ordered it. The service was also soso, not very attentive and very unfriendly. Will never go back. read more

This is definitely one of our go to places when we are craving chicken in the LA area. This is a chain with three locations. The one in encino is quite large and simple on the inside and has two or three outdoor tables as well. The service here is average. Our server was not at all friendly and completely forgot the beer we ordered. You come here for the food, not the service or the ambiance. They have excellent lunch specials. They are very reasonably priced and the portions are huge. we ordered the garlic chicken lunch special and the house salad. The salad was plenty for two and came with lettuce tomato onions and fresh avocado. They brought oil and vinegar if you wanted it. There are no additional dressing choices. You could order a side of their sauce and put it on the salad. That would be tasty. The chicken specials came with rice, beans and fries. It is a quarter chicken. Remember to tell them if you want white or dark. our server did not ask. The chicken is moist on i'm the inside and tasted like it was dipped in a fryer to get the skin super crispy. The sauce it comes with, a garlic citrus blend is delicious and sold separately in case you want to take it home. This is a must try if you live good chicken!! read more

Versailles is chain of Cuban restaurants in the Los Angeles area, this one being it's only San Fernando Valley location. It's a casual environment here featuring a warm palette of colors, some various pictures and decor and some TV's around. It's a large room with many tables and there is also a bar area. They serve you a generous basket of buttery garlic bread slices to start and while you wait for your meal. If you can wait, or if you ask for more, use the bread as dipping tool for any sauces, trust me. Their menu features many things and there should be something for everyone. Appetizers include but are not limited to empanadas, papas rellenas and tamales. There are also soups and salads, and then various other entrees such as ones featuring pork, chicken, beef, vegetarian dishes, seafood and sandwiches. Their claim to fame or one of their house specialties is the Versailles Famous Garlic Chicken which is a juicy roasted half chicken marinated in a garlic sauce and served with plenty of onions. I'd have to say however that this and some other dishes is a bit acidic as the garlic sauce features lemon juice. The sauce however pairs nicely with the common rice, black beans and fried plantains that come as a side (you can substitute sides if wanted/needed). Other favorites include the Lechon Asado, a roasted pork dish once again marinated in the garlic sauce. I also enjoy the Ropa Vieja which is a thinly shredded flank steak dish in a tomato and wine sauce. For the best of two worlds, try the Combinacion De Pollo y Puerco which is made of up the roasted chicken and roasted pork. On the most recent visit, I had a bit of my friends Cuban sandwich called the Sandwich Cubano and I have to say I might be getting that for the next several times, it was really good. It was a long time since I've eaten here and 15 years ago this Cuban restaurant was recommended by my born in Cuba friends. I took my Filipina wife here and recommended the Roast pork. I had the chicken/pork combo. The pork had way too much salty lemon sauce and now I preferred the chicken to the pork but parts were dry. When the bill climbs over $75 and both of us discuss it being the last visit here you start to think that eating at home serves us all better. read more

I'm familiar with Versailles when I used to go to the West LA location on La Cienega. I tried several dishes but my go to dish is the roasted chicken comes rice, beans or moros and platanitos. The chicken is done perfectly with tasty garlic. My favorite drink is the sangria, very delicious. The service it's always on point. My biggest issue at restaurants is if the bathroom is clean. Went to pick up some sandwiches with my friend - we are both of Latino Caribbean descent so we're happy to see a decently authentic Cuban spot. We showed up right before it technically opened but were greeted quickly. We ordered medianoches and the wait was quick. Along with the sandwiches, we got tostones, maduros, and croquetas de jamón. The sandwiches were awesome and huge - made two meals for us both. The plantains were okay! The tostones didn't have any salt or sauce so they could have been better. The croquetas were great. My to go place when I'm missing Brazilian food. The portions are huge and the food is simple but made with good ingredients and technique, which makes everything so flavorful. They give you a basket of bread loaves drenched in their special garlic sauce and it's just amazing! Service is very fast and good too. VERSAILLES is part of a small center with limited parking space. There are plenty of parking on Ventura Blvd and the adjacent street. Wanted to try something different so I ordered their LECHON ASADO. Boy that was awesome! I could have finished it in one sitting because I couldn't stop eating... it tasted so good! But the portion was simply too large so I had to pack up the rest. Had it for dinner, I'll have you know. There was no line to get in or get seated. I didn't realize that I didn't write a review for Versailles until I checked on my review list. Versaille isn't just my favorite Cuban restaurant, It's one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles. The garlic chicken is the most famous dish they have here, but you can't go wrong with their many excellent dishes they offer. Versailles on Ventura blvd. I am Cuban and believe me when I say that this place service authentic Cuban food. There are dishes that are almost the same in different countries so if you are use to a Peruvian dish and you think it's going to be what you are used to, well it's not. They sell CUBAN food. Went on Monday night for a celebratory dinner with my partner. It was 6:10 or so. Got a table right away. We then proceeded to wait about 30 minutes to give a drink order. 30 minutes! We ordered our entrees And again waited nearly 35 minutes for them. My bf ordered chuletas de puerco and could only eat 1 of the 2 served. So overcooked. I got the ropa vieja. My favorite. I am so glad I discovered this place. Being from Hawaii I have eaten a lot of oxtail in my life. I am super stoked that I finally found a place in LA that has good oxtail stew. (Oxtail is super high in collagen too). It comes with beans which are spiced cuban style and white rice. Close enough to what we eat in Hawaii. This meal hits the spot. I have been a fan of Versailles for many years and have visited the location on Venice Blvd many, many times and visited the Redondo Beach location once. We ordered from the Encino location for carry out last night. I got the salmon in garlic sauce, rice, beans, and plantains. My son ordered a Cuban sandwich and fries. The salmon was very over cooked, I needed a knife to cut it. I tried adding sauce but it made no difference so I tossed it. My son's sandwich was missing condiments so it was dry as well. The fries were gross and lacked seasoning. Their oxtail dish at the location on Venice Blvd was always my favorite but when I order it from this location it's always chewy. After a couple of attempts I just stopped ordering it. Last night, it finally occured to me that everytime I eat here it's a disappointment. That was the last straw and I won't be returning. read more
