Vernon diner has always been my favorite for pancakes. Then I found out during Christmas time their cheesecake is delicious and my favorite if I want to over do it. I was craving breakfast, I typically don't want it but today I got the Irish Benedict with corn beef hash and blueberry pancakes. Service was amazing and the food came out fresh, hot, and fast. We were able to eat and leave within 45 minutes to make it to my son's soccer practice. Looking at all the desserts always interest me and I say I'll bring a slice home for later. By the time I finished my meal I no longer want the cheesecake. I need to come here just for the cheesecake and nothing else. Taste better than Cheesecake Factory for sure.

We stopped by Vernon Diner during our road trip and it was exactly what you'd want from a classic American diner experience. The breakfast was really good, simple, satisfying, and cooked just right. Everything came out hot, portions were generous, and it hit the spot after being on the road. The vibe is very traditional diner, comfortable, welcoming, and no-frills in the best way. It's the kind of place where you can sit down, enjoy a solid meal, and keep it moving. If you're passing through the area, it's definitely a great stop for a dependable, classic breakfast.

Went here for breakfast. A Greek American diner with the most fabulous desserts. The diner is clean and bright, extensive menu, friendly waitress. We ordered the avocado toast, 2 eggs, homefries, toast and coffee. All tasty, good portions, plateled nicely, a bit pricey in our opinion. Ovetall a good stop for breakfast

Pancakes - look good, however a bit dry

We dine here every few months & it's always a decent meal. They used to be open 24/7, but since Covid, they have kept more limited hours. I wish the late nights would come back for those midnight snacks I sometimes crave. The Vernon Diner has a large diverse menu. And there are all the cakes & pastries displayed in the glass case when you come inside - all look delicious. They recently built a really nice and bright enclosed porch complete with heaters & a/c. The service is always very good. Parking can be an issue during busy times, and we often have to end up parking near the bank next door. This visit was breakfast. I usually order the egg sandwich, however I opted for the pancakes this time. They were ok - large, fluffy. But a bit dry. So I'm back to my tried & true breakfast sandwich next time.

For our monthly get together, stopped in w 3 friends after morning Mass at St. Luke's in Ellington. Signs on the front doors proudly proclaiming Best Diner in Hartford area in both 2024 and 2025. So I was excited, especially this being my first time at VD. Having grown up in Yonkers NY where, as a young adult, there were no less than eight 24/7, 365 diners w/I a 5-mi radius from home, I was totally underwhelmed by the Vernon Diner. First, the positives: service excellent, prices pretty reasonable, HFs good. However, I literally ate the last gulp off my first cup of coffee. The bottom and side of my cup covered in grinds. Nasty. Replacement cup better, but bitter. The rye toast was actually marble rye bread, barely warm. The 3 of is who had it agreed. My meat lover's omelet was good, not great. To my liking, a bit overcooked. If the criteria for being voted best diner is that you must have the actual word "diner" in your name, then maybe VD rates. However, there are so many better breakfast spots in Hartford county, in my opinion. 2 and 1/2 grounded stars

Big fan of diner food, and they didn't disappoint! I'm a simple breakfast guy, so I the basic grand slam is my thing! I swear the food was on the table before I finished ordering it. I was worried when I pulled into the parking lot because it was packed! I got seated pretty quickly as they managed the tables without making me feel it's time to go.

Traveling south we stopped for a late lunch at the Diner. Sometime we will have to just plan on dessert, cuz so far we've not had room after our meal! I opted for a pastrami on rye, it was a bit too dry for me - slathered mustard and wished I'd said no to toasting it. Wayne had a special - Mac & cheese served with a crab cake - it was fabulous. Our server was great, attentive and pleasant.

This is our favorite diner!!! The atmosphere is so clean and retro! And the food is amazing, the sandwiches and wraps are delightful and the waffle fries are so crunchy. Our server was very kind and attentive! This is our go-to diner for lunch!

Nice atmosphere great people! Exit 65 off i-84 route 30 Wonderful ambience traditional diner feeling sickeningly delicious looking pastries!

Extra crispy home fries according to Vernon Diner! LOL

Our first time here as our favorite breakfast spot was packed with a long wait. Walking in we couldn't believe how large the restaurant is and the pastries in the front area looked amazing. We were seated and given water and menus promptly. Our server, Victoria, was very nice and attentive. Ordered our meals with a request that our home fries be cooked extra, extra crispy. It was busy as Sunday mornings usually are but it took an extremely long time to get our food. The restaurant having been in business for so long should know this and prepare for it, but people all around us were wondering where their food was. Finally arrives and my home fries are basically white potatoes with a touch of brown. I reiterated that I requested them well done and I was asked to scrape them off my plate onto another and she would bring them back to the kitchen for more cooking. The attached pic shows my extra crispy home fries after they were send back for more cooking. LOL. Then to top it off I'm eating my breakfast burrito and hit something crunchy....egg shells. Not once, but 3 times. Yikes. Glad thats all it was but come on! My fiance's "toast" was bread that had maybe done a fly by of a toaster. Bad. So....in a nutshell, no thank you. This was a one and done for us.

Still really good food…read more Returned to this location to see if they were still doing well. Got a full English breakfast special, minus the blood sausage. Also ordered a mocktail of a basil lemonade. The drink was not too sweet and the basil added a tiny touch of herby savoryness which was a nice accent flavor. The full English breakfast was cooked well, good quality ingredients and each element was seasoned appropriately. I could only make a small dent in the dish before sending it back satisfied. The server was friendly, but I threw them off with my quirky behavior. Lead to a little slower service and multiple requests for some items. Nothing against the establishment, just something that happened during my visit. Still a strong recommendation for Main Street, and worth a trek to try.

I like the huge carafe of ice water and the spicy potato chips! For my first drink, I'm having a Negroni. A negroni is an Italian cocktail, made of equal parts gin, vermouth rosso (red, semi-sweet), and Campari, generally served with ice, and commonly garnished with an orange slice or orange peel. It is considered an apéritif. They also have an Obi Wan Negroni made with Cold Brew Infused Campari instead. For my first food item, I'm having the Cream of Mushroom soup with chicken. Cream of mushroom soup is a simple type of soup where a basic roux is thinned with creamor milk and then mushrooms or mushroom brothare added. This is delicious! It's nice and hot with a lot of shredded chicken. For my entree, I'm having the Brussels Sprout Salad made with shaved Brussels sprouts, spring mix, bacon, pomegranate drizzle, silvered almonds, shaved Parmesan and lemon vinaigrette dressing. Look at the height of this! This tastes great! I am also having a side of mushy peas. Mushy peas are a traditional British side dish of marrowfat peas that are cooked until soft and mashed into a mush. The dish is especially popular in Northern England and the Midlands, and often eaten with fish and chips or served as part of "pie and peas". Here's a quick overview of mushy peas: Ingredients** Traditionally made with dried marrowfat peas, but can be substituted with frozen peas or green split peas. I love this! It's nice and hot.,What a rare treat! This is hard to find anywhere! I'm also having a side of cold slaw. Coleslaw, or "slaw" in North America, is a side dish of shredded cabbage with a vinaigrette or mayo-based dressing. The word "coleslaw" comes from the Dutch term koolsla, meaning "cabbage salad". Recipes vary by region and can include additional ingredients like carrots, apples, raisins, or celery. Coleslaw originated in the Netherlands in the 18th century, but references to similar cabbage salads appear in ancient Greek and Roman medical texts. This is the best! Nice, thick dressing! For my last drink, I'm having a Godfather. The Godfather is a sweet and strong cocktail that blends Scotch whisky and amaretto liqueur. It's typically served in an old-fashioned glass over ice and can be garnished with an orange twist. The drink became popular in the 1970s disco scene and is named after the 1972 film starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. Some say bartender Joe Scialom created the Godfather to capture the movie's spirit. This is done just right! Good job! What a great meal here!

Tried again, better but still missing details…read more Wanted to give this place another try, so I came in for the morning breakfast routine to try them out. Inside is still somewhat nice looking if not a bit sparse and a bit dark. I try to get a single tamales. Along with a sandwich. Food comes out after a short delay. Took pics then dug in. Bread is really good. Crusty but soft and was warm. Had to cut it myself but they gave me a steak knife which worked for the job. The beef was flavored well but the jus was over seasoned with salt. It mellowed out when treated like a French dip, but still a little too salty on its own. There was about 6 small strips of steak, with some tomatoes and onions also in the mix to help bulk out the sandwich. The tamale was massive, masa was spiced well. Chicken was pulles in long strings which led to uneven bites of chicken and masa. Price was good for the sandwich but not the tamale. 13 for the sandwich is reasonable but would want the option for some fries or something to bulk it out. The tamale at 8 was too pricy for what you get. Not a bad tamale, but would rather pay 4 and get half than pay for a big one. Least then I can try both protein options and pick a winner. They are improving, and the efforts are noted. New menus and new servers make for a better experience. There's still some tweaks to be made, but it's a good place to try if you're feeling adventurous

Server showed up quickly and took our drink orders. Menu is extensive and should provide plenty of options for everyone. (Pictures of menu included here) We ordered the 5 ounce burger with cheese and fries and the Texas hold em burger with bacon minus tomato and lettuce and fries and the French onion soup. There was a short wait till the soup came out. Nicely covered with melted cheese on top. The soup was good but didn't have the depth of beef flavor and spice texture that I was looking for. There plenty of onions, croutons, and cheese and overall it was okay. The burgers were well cooked and flavorful. They offered two sizes of their standard burgers, 5 or 8 ounces. The smaller size was just right for the person I was with. The cheese seemed to melt into the burger so it wasn't really visible. The hold em burger was large and had onion straws and three slices of very crispy bacon on top. There was a dollop of the bbq/house dressing and plenty of onions straws. The straws were nicely fried but not crispy by the time they reached the table but added a good dimension to the burger. It was good to leave the tomato and lettuce off as the height of the burger made it tough to bite into. The fries were disappointing. They had the right color for being fried and crispy but they were limp and soft. They are clearly are fresh cut from large potatoes but really need to be fried longer to get that crispy crunch you'd expect. Told the server that and was told to ask for the fries extra crispy. Overall not a bad first trip. We'll go back and try some other things on the menu and see what extra crispy fries are like.

They all seem to add a bit of class. For my first drink, I'm am having a Cosmopolitan. A Cosmopolitan (or Cosmo) is a popular pink cocktail made with vodka, triple sec (or Cointreau), cranberry juice, and fresh lime juice, typically shaken and served in a martini glass. It's known for its tart, fruity, and slightly sweet flavor profile, often garnished with an orange twist. While served in a martini glass, it's not a true martini as it lacks vermouth. The drink has nice presentation, chilled, garnished and well-balanced. For my first food item, I'm having a Chef's Salad. A chef salad is a hearty American main-course salad with a base of lettuce topped with various ingredients like hard-boiled eggs, one or more meats (such as ham, turkey, or chicken), cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers, often with croutons and a vinaigrette or ranch dressing. I am having vinaigrette for my dressing. Oh yeah! Nice restating! This is good! I see romaine lettuce, olives, eggs, turkey, ham, canned green and red peppers, pepperoni, cheese, picked onions, cucumbers, etc. It's a big portion size for $7! For my next food item, I'm having the (1/2 lb) Mussels. Mussels are a popular, sustainable, and nutritious seafood known for their briny flavor, often served steamed in broth with wine, garlic, and herbs, and paired with crusty bread. They are filter feeders, rich in protein, omega-3s, and vitamin B12, and are farmed responsibly, making them an environmentally friendly choice that improves water quality. These are good you. They are hot. I like the grilled, buttered bread. Make sure to squeeze the lemon on top. This is the "red" inversion (white is an option). These are good! I love this broth! For my next food item, I'm having the Bogner's Chili Cheese Dog. Bogner Quality Meats in Manchester, CT, offers a selection of premium, house-made hot dogs and franks, featuring all-beef skinless, natural casing, and kielbasa dogs. Known for high-quality meats since 1942, they also offer bulk 5 lb packages, perfect for grilling, along with a full service butcher counter. I only get to eat this kind twice a year! This is all beef and locally made. What's better than this?! This is great!!! Love that pickle and those thick kettle chips! For my second drink, I'm having a margarita. A Margarita is a classic cocktail made with tequila, orange liqueur (like Cointreau or triple sec), and lime juice, often served in a salt-rimmed glass with a lime wedge garnish. It can be served shaken and "on the rocks" (with ice), blended with ice, or straight up, and variations include different tequilas (like reposado) or sweeteners like agave syrup. No margarita glass or sake/sugar rim but it is nicely garnished and tastes good. The floating orange is odd. Still, it's quite good! For my next food item, I'm having the Geno's Meatballs. Gino D'Acampo's traditional meatball recipe features a mix of minced pork and beef, soaked bread, egg, pecorino cheese, and parsley, typically simmered in a simple tomato sauce. For best results, brown the meatballs in olive oil, then simmer slowly for at least 30 minutes to two hours for a rich flavor. I like the cheese strips on top. Lots of sauce! These taste great! For my last drink, I'm having a Vodka Mule. A Moscow Mule is a refreshing, vodka-based cocktail made with lime juice and spicy ginger beer, traditionally served in a copper mug which keeps it extra cold. To make one, combine vodka, fresh lime juice, and ice in a mug, then top with chilled ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge or wheel. It's a simple, no-shaker-needed drink that's popular for its balance of spicy, sweet, and tart flavors. I like the copper mug! It's chilled, nicely garnished and well balanced. For my last item, I've been dying to try the Special- a bork of Legume Soup. Lentil soup is a hearty, nutritious soup made with lentils as the main ingredient, often featuring a base of sautéed onions, carrots, and garlic, simmered in broth with spices like cumin and turmeric, and finished with fresh herbs and lemon juice. It's a staple in many cultures, known for being filling, economical, and rich in protein and fiber, with variations using different lentils (red, green, brown) and additions like kale, potatoes, or pasta. I like the cute, little crock pot.
