Excellent deep massage by Yolanda! She knew exactly what needed to be done to fix what was causing so much pain in my neck. It was the first deep massage I've ever had and although she worked hard on some very tender spots, I could tell she totally knew what needed to be worked on and would back off if I told her it was uncomfortable. Even as she was working those spots, it was so relaxing that I fell asleep a couple of times. Best of all, no more pain. I didn't need to use any ibuprofen after the massage! I'm returning next week to have her continue to work on me. Immediately after my massage I urged my sister and a colleague to book an appointment asap. I booked an appointment in advance with Verde Holistic Wellness Center. I got there for my appointment at 10:45 am on Wednesday, May 3rd. When I got there the therapist (medium build, curly hair, about 5'4'') asked if I wanted to focus on a specific area to which I said yes the upper back. When she started I noticed she started working with one hand and kept massaging me with one hand. This went on for about 10-15 minutes until I realized (and heard) the tapping of a finger on a screen. Also who in the world does a deep tissue massage with one hand? The therapist was also sitting down the whole time on a stool, massaging with one hand, not looking at me but instead looking at her phone. I could feel the movements were weak, very slow and there were long pauses in between each movement. All of this led me to suspect the person was on her phone. When I turned my head up from the head rest, I saw her scrolling through her phone to which I said, ARE YOU SERIOUSLY ON YOUR PHONE? She said "NO, I'M SO SORRY" and then immediately put it in her pocket. I walked out after that. I want everyone to realize that clients could have been injured as a result of this kind of lack of attentiveness, incorrect body positioning (sitting on a stool, one hand on her phone). She could also have been taking videos or pictures of me. I will never return and will be reporting this place. read more

The massage was fine but I wouldn't go back for a few reasons. The rooms are not private but more semi private with only large curtains separating each room. This means that you can hear all of the noise. I wasn't able to relax during my massage because the client in the next "room" over wouldn't stop yapping about her dog and I could hear her entire conversation with her masseuse. I really wish they had a "no talking" policy so that everyone could have as much of a relaxing experience as possible. My masseuse was intuitive enough to try and raise the sound of the spa sounds to try and drown out the conversation happening in the next space over but I was thoroughly annoyed and could not fully relax. 2nd reason I wouldn't go back is because the facility was kind of chilly. Otherwise the check in was fine and the massage itself was good. People need to use proper spa etiquette and stfu. Gave a third star because I left my wedding ring at the facility and they immediately called me back to let me know. read more

What would I describe an effective massage? I would say it's like a wrinkled blouse that has been thoroughly ironed, nicely hung, and ready to be worn! In other words, I was "renewed" merely after a single massage. I work at the Inventory division of a regional fashion clothing company in the city. I constantly lift heavy boxes, walk, and stand for a long period of time. That was why I decided to book an appointment for 1-hour Dojo massage to try "Verde" out. Requesting an appointment was super easy. I did it via Yelp without having to phone in. I wish I didn't hit the early Friday rush hour traffic. The receptionist was very understanding and booked me to the next appointment that was ten (10) minutes later than the scheduled time when I called in. The place was spotless and smelling wonderful! Jeanette was my masseuse. After she went over my intake and asked me a few questions, the session soon began. She was easy to communicate to and applied just right amount of pressure. Dojo massage has the "stretch" portion to help me increase the range of motion. I told Jeanette to focus on my shoulder and upper arm areas. Wow, the minute her hands slid through my back, I immediately felt better. In addition, she was gentle when she performed stretched all parts of my body and gave me a heads up. The only regret I had was that I didn't book the 1 1/2 hour session instead. I had many knots and much tightness on my back specially, yet her magic touch provided great relief. I also was offered water after the massage. The service was friendly. I truly felt welcomed here. When the receptionist informed me about the rebooking discount, I didn't hesitate at all. I felt no relieve after the sports massage. Pressure applied was just okay. Duration of the massage was not even the hour. Changing and undressing is counted towards your massage time. My masseuse was so attentive and took her time to ask about any injuries or problem areas I have as well as explain the techniques used and difference of other services offered. Took over a week to receive a response from them, and when they finally contacted me back and confirmed my updated appointment. It turned out that the appointment was not scheduled. - Then I was expected to reschedule after I sent them the e-mail confirmation previously received from them. All I did was breathe the words, "I study ballet," & Crystal transformed my deep-tissue massage into a sports therapy, hot stone, bending, twisting & stretching my muscles massage session. I am thin but athletic, & Crystal obviously has an excellent understanding of anatomy. She knew just what muscles to work with. She even told me to relax & she stretched out my thighs, my core, my arms, my legs... she did all the work. I just let her bend my body to her will & the results were incredible. O.M.G! Now I have gone everywhere from chic spas in downtown to hair salons with a massage table in the back (damn Groupon). I made a last minute appointment at Verde, so they couldn't book both my husband and I at the same time. It was not difficult to find, but it is in Pilsen, so if you aren't used to the city outside of downtown, this may not be the spot for you. Walking in, it is nicely decorated and super clean. They have some soothing music playing in the background. The receptionist offered us cucumber water while we completed our intake forms. She took our coats and we waited a few more minutes. Susie, our masseuse, greeted us and took me first. She was very nice and gave me time to undress to my panties. The room was dim, clean, warm, and had a space to store my belongings. When Susie started, she had a light touch and I thought, darn, I should have requested a guy. Boooooooooy, was I wrong!!!!! That light touch soon turned into elbows in my back, and it was oh so good. She did some aromatherapy and complimentary hot stone massages too. The bed heated up, and she used hot packs on my lower back and behind my neck. I don't know what in the hell she was doing to my face and hair, and I might have looked like a wild and crazy person afterwards, but it felt soooooooo good!!! It was relaxing, as a massage should be. She only asked questions about pressure and heat, and let me enjoy the rest. I used a Yelp coupon, but even at $65 for an hour, that's pretty damn reasonable. It's been years and I continue to feel that my money is well spent here. I've never had a bad experience with any of their staff. I'm still recovering from an arm break and basically told Gabriela, "My shoulder hurts....my lower back....my neck too....actually... just the whole left side of my body."
