I recently went on Chill's spring meditation and wellness retreat in New Buffalo, Mich. The best part of the retreat is that I still feel relaxed and have carried the energy and lessons from the weekend into my daily routine. I'll preface it by sharing that prior to the retreat, I meditated maybe a dozen times. I went on the retreat because I wanted to incorporate more meditation into my life. Now, meditation is not only something I do, but I look forward to. The entire retreat beat my (always high) expectations. Chill's retreat included two nights at the Marina Grand hotel, five meditations, three yoga sessions, a class focused entirely on breathing, a gong bath and wellness sessions on goal setting and mindful eating. I can't say enough about Laura, who ran the retreat and runs Chill; Cari, who led the yoga sessions; and Darrell who led the meditations. The hotel was lovely - our room had a fireplace and two Adirondack chairs on the marina-facing patio - perfect for your morning coffee. The retreat also included two dinners and breakfasts - all were very good and catered to all dietary needs. We had time on our own for lunch on Saturday and my friend and I wandered into town for lunch at Beer Church Brew Co. We capped off our weekend perfectly with meditation and yoga focused on loving kindness before saying goodbye to our new friends. The retreat was perfect mix of spiritual and wellness guidance and also provided necessary time for us to reflect on the lessons of the day. I'm so happy I went and I'm already looking forward to going back to Chill and to the next retreat in the fall. read more

It was my first time trying Chill. I took their 30 min yoga + 30 min meditation class. Likes: - Offered tea or water at check-in - Two cool hanging chairs...but they get taken quickly so I didn't get to try one - Lockers with locks and internal charging stations - They offer mats and seat cushions but I didn't know and already brought my mat - Definitely felt more relaxed and nearly fell asleep during the meditation part haha Dislikes: - Overbook space with an event so they put us (8?) in the front room which was tiny (I don't usually get claustrophobic but did a little because we were packed like sardines) and next to the lounge/check-in area. Traveling for work and new to yoga but I'm committed to going at least once a week. I looked at a couple of other yoga studios in the area but Chill looked like it offered a variety of classes, the reviews were great, and it just looks like it would be nice. I attempted to register and signup for the class while walking through my hotel and in the taxi. I got registered but the website wouldn't let me book the class. I was greeted at 7:28 am (the class was at 7:30 ) by a very nice woman who found me in their system, put me in the class and got me a glass of water. I didn't bring a yogi mat with me but that was fine because they have them there for you to use. The receptionist showed me where I could lock up my personal items, and I got the 20 second tour! Everything was very white, clean, and relaxing. The class was yoga & meditation, there were only 4 students (myself included), they already had a mat, pillow, and blanket set up for 4 students (its like they knew I was coming!) I enjoyed the class but if I have the opportunity to visit again I think I'll choose a different class. I've been doing hot yoga, so I really feel like relaxed but worked out as this didn't really do that for me, but I guess it shouldn't. I did want to get a massage after the class but the masseuse wasn't coming in until the afternoon, so I skipped it. Overall, I would definitely come back. The staff was great and $22 to drop in for a class seems like the norm. read more

I have a wellness crush on Chill. I came here while traveling in Chicago and was blown away. I took a 30 minute meditation class and gained so much insight in that short period of time. I'm a regular but amateur mindfulness meditator, and I had not done a guided meditation class before coming to Chill. The space is inviting, and the staff member who checked us in welcomed us, offered water or tea, and gave us a tour. She explained how to use the meditation cushion and bolster because we weren't familiar with that style of seated meditation. The instructor greeted us and asked about our prior experience and any physical limitations that might warrant reclined or back-supported postures. After class, we enjoyed sitting in the swing chairs in the lobby and browsing their well-curated retail items. I loved my experience so much that I'm going back tomorrow. read more

The ambiance is nice. "Chill" as the name represents. I came in for the first time with a friend after work. They offer you tea or water upon sign in, which is a nice touch. Place is very clean and staff is friendly. I completed a 30min yoga/30min meditation class. While it was relaxing, it was a bit too slow for my style. I was on a waitlist for a workshop. They let me know 10 minutes before the session that I was off the waitlist, so I took a Lyft ride and got there. When I arrived after the session had already started, they stopped me from going in because I'd interrupt the session. They never disclosed the policy in the first place when they called me, and I ended up wasting my money and time. I think they should have been clearer in the first place. It's disappointing because my experience at Chill was generally good before. UPDATE: The CEO reached out to me personally and apologized for the situation, offering to issue a refund and another workshop or a free week of classes. I went to Chill for the meditation + massage combo- I had never tried in person guided meditation before, so this was brand new for me! The space is heavenly...I would come here just to escape the hustle and bustle of the city- the aesthetic brings an immediate calmness. They encourage you to disconnect for a while- which is just what I needed. I did the insight class led by Claire and it was amazing- even for a first timer. I went here on a last minute whim because I wanted a massage tonight, with barely 2 hours notice and they happened to have a single opening. I booked with Maria because she had the availability, but after this visit I would never choose anyone else. This 35 minute chair massage packed all the punch of a full out spa massage. I like a firm touch on my pressure points and she delivered, teasing my tight shoulder blades away from my neck and digging in at the space made. The space itself is serene and enjoyable as well. My chair massage actually shifted over to a table after a few minutes to get more angles in my shoulders and neck. She used a relaxing essential oil for me to breath in and to massage into a few points. The whole process was also quick, I have a mind body account so I booked and prepaid there, as well as signed the waiver. When I arrived I was shown where I could leave my coat, shoes, and purse in a keyless locker, then I waited in a sling chair up front until my appt. Maria then introduced herself, checked for injuries/allergies or anything I wanted to focus on, adjusted the chair and we were set. I never thought I could meditate until I was introduced to Chill. Darrell and Nicole are so kind and knowledgable. They coddled me every step of the way, and I now have a regular practice. Had a massive headache/backache so I looked up places nearby for massage. Chill's prices didn't look too bad so I figured I'd stop by around lunch for a quick massage. Their hospitality was top notch while I waited. Gave me tea and a tour until I could get my massage. Chill is all about meditation, which I def need some more of in my life. Not being too experienced in it, I jumped at the chance to take their combo Yoga and Meditation class, cuz at least I'd know how to do one thing right. Oh, and to reward myself for trying something new, I also booked chair massages for both the hubs and I to enjoy after class. I can tell you we arrived to a gorgeous studio and had a great class experience, but all I remember is the shitty customer service afterwards. While waiting on the loungers for our massages to start, I realized it seemed like we were waiting way too long. Our massage was supposed to start 15 minutes after class, and when I got up to check my cell, it was already 25 minutes afterwards. Hmm... I should've know something was up when earlier I overheard a girl ask if she could book a massage for after class, and I was immediately approached and asked if I knew I booked our massages for fifteen minutes after class. I said yes, because I wanted to make sure we had a buffer in case class ran late or we were moving just a bit slow after all the zen. Well, my massage therapist laster apologized for running late, saying the girl before me was booked for 10:45 AM and for some reason class got out late. No, it didn't. Class was supposed to end at 11:00 AM, and did. The minimum massage time is 20 minutes. Even if class ended perfectly on time, my massage would've been delayed by a minimum of 5 minutes. This was just their bs way of trying to squeeze someone else in to make more money without considering other people's time. I don't mind if they're running behind, but that wasn't the case here. They blatantly booked another client knowing they could never start my appointment on time. In the the end, we didn't start our massages until 11:30 AM, which is totally unacceptable, when they were supposed to be over at 11:35 AM. To me, paying $35 for a 20 min massage is a premium, and I expected a certain level of service. I was so pissed that we were ignored and avoided (hell, use that time to offer me some of the tea everyone else seemed to have), and only apologized to after I complained that both appointments started so late. In fact, their excuse for starting my husband's late was because I booked them together. Nice. Cross this place off the zen list. Update: Chill did contact me and offer to let the hubs and I try another class and massage on them, or get a refund on the massages we paid for, so I'm bumping my review up a star for now until I have a chance to stop by for a second visit. read more

I really, really, really was looking forward to the chair massage-I have had them in the past and it has worked for me- The Chill building is nice, open, clean, spa like and the chair massages are along the left side of the building- I was asked about pressure and what I'd like and I just said"I didn't want to cry from pain"...I am sure we've all had that massage where it's elbows and Thor type hands that make you feel like you are being tortured instead of a massage...well this was the opposite... I think there was maybe 3 total minutes of massaging, which for me means taking hands/fingers and really massaging the area, getting in there-Not doing a pressure point with a finger or taking their forearm and leaning on top of me, that's it-I did want to stop it and ask for him to just massage me but I thought it might happen, yet did not- I finally did stopped him when he had massage oil/gel rubbing my head-Sorry but a girl with long hair that has it up does not want to have massage oil in their hair! I left feeling worse b/c I just had some areas literally pushed on with his finger then leaned on- As I said I've had chair massages before and that has never happened, just pushing on a pressure point is not a massage- We already paid and I tipped $10 but we will not be going back-He did say I could have mentioned the need for more pressure or what I wanted but I didn't asked to be poked in the back a couple times then pushing on that so I bounce in the chair-I just wanted a massage... read more

So happy I found Chill. Just came back from the Meditation + Wellness weekend retreat they do in Michigan, and it was so good! It was just what I needed to de-stress and a the perfect weekend getaway. They had a good balance of guided meditations, yoga, and down time on our own. The food was delicious--and healthy--and the hotel was lovely. (I particularly loved the fireplace in each room!) Before the retreat, I had taken some classes at Chill. I loved the vibe as soon as I walked into the studio. Beautiful and calming space. I love the combo yoga/meditation class, with a half hour of yoga that is perfect for any level and then the second half of guided meditation. I walk out feeling calm and peaceful and less stressed. I've also done a few half hour guided meditation classes. Each instructor has been really great. I appreciate that there is no pressure to do meditation one specific way. And this may seem like a little thing but I love that they set up the room so it's ready to go when you walk in and you don't have to bring your own mat. Other pluses . . . the staff is accommodating and friendly, super easy to schedule online, variety of times to choose from, nice and quiet lounge area, lockers for your personal belongings. I work in the area and have some experience with meditation so I was excited to give Chill a try when I heard about it. My first impression upon walking in was how beautiful the studio is and was greeted by staff at the front desk that made me feel welcomed. The process of taking a class was very easy and I met some nice people while securing items in the provided lockers. I only meditated alone before but loved the group setting way more than I expected. The class was not intimidating at all and the instructor was amazing. There were a few options of different cushions you could sit on and plenty of space between people in the class. I went into the class feeling stressed from the workday and left in a completely different state of mind. I went back two days later with a friend to a yoga/meditation class which was just as great as the first class. My friend had not done yoga or meditated before and had just as great of an experience as I did. This alone gives me the confidence of recommending Chill to anyone that wants to clear their mind. read more

Everyone has so much knowledge on mindfulness and meditation. Chill is structured like a workout studio, but instead of working out, you mediate! It is for people brand new to meditation as well as people with experience. The guided meditation classes will provide structure to a solo activity. They also offer chair massages! First of all let's start with the space. It is beautiful and very relaxing with attention to detail. Whether you are there for a class or just to take a break and talk to the staff, it is wonderful. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable without being pushy. They are all very easy to talk to and explain your experience to if you are interested in feedback. Now onto the really exciting stuff, the meditation. Meditation is very important to me when it comes to dealing with depression as well as being able to enjoy life in the moment and this place offers amazing guided meditations to help with your practice. I have attended all 3 types of classes they offer. The breathing class is great for getting yourself in tune with your breath and seeing where your mind wanders, the insight class is great for exploring different aspects of your ego and possibly bringing up thoughts from your subconscious that you weren't aware of, and the rest class is an amazing way to end the day in relaxation while also working your mind out. As many have said meditation is a great work out of your mind as well as a way to become a more compassionate and happy person. So even if you decide to do it for pure self-interest you will also become a better person to the people around you as a consequence of your practice. :) Go in with an open mind and most of all don't judge yourself or what your conscious thinks!!! read more

They make meditation accessible, meeting you at your level of expertise- in other words, seasoned meditators and those who are new to the practice will find a Chill session beneficial. I scheduled a 20 minute chair massage with Agnieszka. I expected to walk out after 20 minutes and feel moderately relaxed. Boy, was I wrong. First off, this is one of the best massages I've ever had. Agnieszka accomplished in 20 minutes what other massage therapists haven't been able to do in an hour. She got my shoulders and neck to un- tense. It's been a few hours and I'm still feeling loose and relaxed. The pressure she used was absolutely perfect, and she even noticed my arms were sore without me even saying anything. That's talent! After 20 minutes was up, I was offered another 10 for a small fee. How can I say no? Money doesn't matter when you're that relaxed. At any other massage place, once your time is up, you feel pressured to pay and get out. Not here. I was shown lounge chairs to relax in, offered another cup of tea, and encouraged to stay later and just sit back and relax! It was such a nice change of pace. Not sure why this place has such great reviews. It is literally a room where someone comes and tells you that you should breathe. And charges you an arm and a leg for that. Granted I'm not a meditation expert, but this was not something you can't do at home every day. In one of the sessions, the instructor was telling us to close our eyes and relax blah blah blah, and since I didn't care I was just looking around and at some point she takes out her cellphone and apparently checked her email or something. I have so many wonderful things to say about Chill I don't even know where to begin. When you enter the studio, not only is it beautifully decorated with modern and trendy decor, but it is also a very tranquil environment. With the soothing, low volume music, to the trickling waterfall, I was immediately zen when I entered the space. When I signed in for my class, the woman at the desk greeted me with a smile and had very calming energy. She also asked if I would be interested in green tea or water. I was very pleasantly surprised with this offer, and I graciously accepted green tea. When I was making my way to the studio where I would be taking class, I noticed there was a section blocked off for massages. It was in low lighting with very little distractions. It was a very nice environment. After removing my shoes and keeping them in a safe keyless locker, I then entered the studio where I would take my Nutrition Class. The room was set up with seats for everyone and little goodie bags. The goodie bags contained an electrolyte water, a bag of trail mix, and a copy of the powerpoint we would be reviewing. The nutrition and mindful eating class was EXTREMELY informative. I have drastically changed my diet and perspective on food because of what I learned and the tools Chill provided. I highly recommend Chill to anyone who practices mindfulness or is interested in learning about it! You have to start somewhere, and I wouldn't suggest anywhere besides Chill. read more

Rainbow Weldon invited me to the rest class that she taught, and I fell in love with the space and people right away when I walked in! I was welcomed very warmly by the staff and felt right at home. The class was amazing! Such a great time and space to give myself to meditate and rest. I can't wait to come back to just chill and also take more classes.
