We came here for a quick lunch during our day in Black Mountain. Atmosphere: Veranda is located in the cute little town of Black Mountain. The cafe is quaintly decorated on the inside. It is very nice and clean. They let us park our stroller at the front. Restrooms: They have two single use restrooms. One has a changing pad for babies. Both of their restrooms were very clean. Service: We were warmly welcomed and served from the minute we entered Veranda. All the staff was soooo friendly and passionate about what they do. I felt right at home! You can also tell this is a place where locals go because some of the staff knew guests by name. Food: The food was fantastic. I had their 'Hungarian Mushroom Soup' which was delicious! My husband had one of their sandwiches and loved it. We will definitely back if we return to Black Mountain! read more

Inside is very beautiful and cozy. It is a nice little place to stop for lunch. Our server today, and other employees were all very nice. Our server was quick and so was the time we got our food after ordering. The bread, cheese and vegetables were fresh and tasty. The grilled chicken in my sandwich was very chewy and tough. I've been here twice and ate an overcooked pork chop twice. I don't know what all the fuss is about this place , it's very underwhelming to us. The menu just is okay and the server was great. Great spot for lunch. Came here in November for lunch with friends and was not disappointed. They were very accommodating and friendly. I ordered the mushroom soup which was very tasty, rich in flavor, fresh and filling. I also orederd the roast beef sandwich and got it grilled. Very good, fresh roast beef both tender and tasty. They were fast with making our food but not suspiciously fast. Good sized serving and the atmosphere is fun and very open. They have new owners here boy it went downhill. I had a sandwich. It's called Brenda club. It was not a club was not toasted. It was no mayonnaise. There was no nothing on it. She provided some great suggestions and answered all of our questions. I ordered the McDibbs sandwich and was not disappointed with my choice. Veranda is a happening spot in Black Mountain. I was lucky to score a table without a wait. They offer both inside and outside dining. I chose inside but next time will sit outside as I've read about the view the outside dining provides. I liked that the menu provided a good selection of sandwiches and salads. I went with the tuna salad and it came with chips. It was very good but the dessert was out of this world. The chocolate peanut butter pie was such a treat and a great way to end the meal. So great I ended up coming back twice! Great options for salads, sandwiches and a few kids meals. The PB&J was nothing special, but the kids LOVED the mini hotdogs they had. I had a sandwich one day and a salad the next. While the salad was tasty, but the Bombay Wrap was perfect. If you've ever been to europe, you know the curry sandwiches/wraps in most convenience stores? This is what they aspire to be. The Vegetarian sandwich was over stuffed with fresh vegies. My wife really enjoyed it. My father-in law got the Tuna, but I didn't get to try it. The place itself was really busy, but still felt intimate. A great place for a sit down. Sadly, we got take out both times - which the wrapped up nicely. the only downside was they didn't have cold-water to go. (You can go across the street to the icecream place for that though). Pro tip: There is 10 minute parking out front -so call your order in and there's a good chance you'll be able to snag a spot for quick pickup right out front. read more

Thanks to fellow yelpers for us to choose this place for lunch while visiting Black Mountain this week. We dined outside , at one of the few tables available out there, and devoured our sandwiches. Hubby selected turkey brie with cranberry chutney and the brie was nice and gooey from the toasting. The staff indulged me with allowing me to create my own sandwich on cranberry nut bread with sharp cheddar, povelone, chutney, and veggies. Hubby ordered the Hungarian paprika mushroom soup that was a bit thick. Dessert options looked homemade and tempting. So many large cookies in this area, seems to be a must for these cafes! Service was friendly and the place was hopping! We put our names down and then shopped next store. Less than 30 minutes and they called us to say table was ready. I had high hopes stopping into Veranda for lunch. The reviews were excellent, the food looked great, and it had a wonderfully charming interior. Sadly, it didn't live up to expectations. The FOH manager was kind enough to take my name and number and gave me a call when an outdoor table was ready to seat my party. Warning: if you're eating on their patio and it's even slightly windy outside, dress warm! The height of the second-story patio meant a constant breeze was blowing and as it's covered, there was no sun to warm us so I froze my butt off. I tried their special of the day, the Stevo. Thinly sliced beef with sauteed onions, pepperoncini, provolone cheese, and chipotle ranch on toasted sourdough. It comes with a side of chips but after asking whether they fry their chips in-house (nope), I opted for their Indian Summer Salad which is composed of white corn, peas, green beans, green pepper, and onions in a sweet vinagrette. The sandwich itself was underwhelming. The bread, while nicely toasted, tasted more like plain white bread than sourdough and could've used a light coat of butter. The beef was fine, if unremarkable, and I couldn't detect the chipotle ranch or a spread of any kind. The worst part of the meal was the salad; it tasted as though it was dressed in simple syrup rather than a vinaigrette. No acidity to speak of, and just unrelenting sweetness. The service was fine, everyone was pleasant to deal with, and prices weren't outrageous. Cute and quaint as it was, the enjoyment factor just wasn't there and I'm not sure I'd give Veranda another shot. read more

Our group of six stopped by for lunch. They don't take reservations but do have a sign in list. Got there at 12:15 and the restaurant was full. We got seated at 12:30. Noticed after 1pm empty tables were available. The tomato crab bisque was very nice with small pieces of crab and creamy bisque. The Hungarian mushroom soup was also tasty with plenty of mushrooms. My Mr Dibbs roast beef sandwich was nicely grilled with tasty beef. The au jus lacked flavor. Others had a variety of salads all of which were a nice size with variety of greens and toppings. Server and hostess were pleasant and helpful. I can understand the attraction and variety on the menu. Personally I would go back for soup and possibly dessert. read more

We eat at Veranda's Labor Day at lunch , there was a slight wait but nothing too crazy, the ambiance is really good, we were served our drinks in a reasonable amount of time and the appetizer ( the soup was delicious see the picture for the proof ) . They were out of a few items but no big deal. They were busy but the staff was hustling. The floor and tables were clean and the sound levels acceptable. This place is as charming as the town it's located in. Stopped by with two people. Just had some soup and a BLT. Well also son deliciously warm coffee! We enjoyed the charm and the kindness of the staff as well as the food. This is a great place to eat. Not only is it a really adorable eatery but the warmth and friendliness of the people who run it just cannot be beat. It's also just a great place to relax and talk which we did in abundance. We did have some dessert. I had a gigantic chocolate chip cookie warmed up in the two people I was with got vanilla ice cream. We loved it. I would highly recommend veranda as a place oozing warmth and charm and Southern hospitality. Add some great food to that and we have a winner. I have been wanting to try this place for as long as I have lived in Black Mountain, 2.5 years, but timing has never worked for me. You know a place is good when they can keep a location going on such limited hours. Finally came a day with my mom in town and I had the day off, so it worked out perfectly. My husband went here with his dad and sister over a year ago and said it was good, but he was limited in options as a vegan. I say honestly we are pescatarian, we eat fish and diary. Though we do try to keep the dairy to a minimum. Also the menu does change a bit, so I didn't have the same issue. I saw at least four soups and three menu options for vegetarians. All I need is one good one. I had the vegetable sandwich. Usually I give my alterations, but this time it was just no onions. I will try the weird Mayo. So glad I did. The sandwich was so good and the perfect size to be full but not stuffed. I was truly a perfect lunch. I also took a chance on the elderberry lemonade. I think berry = sweet. But no, elderberry is a little sweet and a little something else. Hard to describe. I tried to have two servers describe it before I ordered and they had the same problem. It took a few sips before my tongue got the taste but once it did I wanted more. My mom got the special, a meatloaf panini. I was skeptical of that as well but she assured me it was delicious. She had the regular lemonade which she liked as well. I hope it is not another 2.5 years before I can work my schedule out again. This is my first time visiting a restaurant in Black Mountain. I was told this place was very fancy. Maybe for Black Mountain? Service was excellent and my partner and I were seated quickly. My issue is with the sandwich I got. It was absolutely the worst sandwich I've ever eaten. I ordered the Caprese Panini and it was completely liquid. That's right, liquid. I picked up the sandwich and the wet, sticky contents slipped out completely. I tried to fork my liquid cheese and tomato back into the soggy pieces of bread but my sandwich dripped down my hands with each bite and to continue eating, you need to put your sandwich back together each bite. I had to excuse myself to wash my hands after the "meal". I gave up on the sandwich and enjoyed the Hungarian Mushroom soup instead. It was delicious. read more

We finally got a chance to eat at this popular little Black Mountain lunch spot and discovered it to be as delightful as described. Service is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is cozy and pleasant, highlighted by wood floors and exposed brick walls. Most importantly, the food is superb. We split the Cuban sandwich which is perfectly prepared according to my Cuban wife. I had the potato soup and it was served piping-hot and delicious, topped with cheese and bacon. She had the Hungarian mushroom which was good but was a little rich for our taste. We would have preferred a lighter broth that did not overpower the mushrooms. The coconut cake, although not made in house, was moist and served warm. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and will return. One last tip however, arrive early as lines are the norm. read more

What a great place! My husband and I were out hiking with our dog, and we stopped here. They were very welcoming to our pup and someone from the neighboring restaurant even offered water and a doggie snack. We sat up on the deck in back of the restaurant which has about 6 small tables. Charming downtown artsy atmosphere with in/out seating and quick service. Great sandwich and soup selections - the turkey/brie/cranberry melt is great and the Hungarian mushroom soup is amazing. The unique house made composed salads are also a treat as are the delicious cake and pie choices. Varied and interesting beverages including some of the more unusual beers.
