We came on a whim and discovered this gem 15 minutes away from Maggie Valley…read more Store is beautiful and clean. We came on a Thursday late afternoon/Early evening and got sat quickly. Waiter was spot on - tended to us quickly to get our drinks. He came and took our order and food came out fairly quickly. The vegetable tempura was great - not greasy and this one had broccoli and eggplant (I dont like eggplants but I am sure someone will.appreciate this). Fried rice - even though it was kids, it was fantastic. It was not oil soaked and the flavor was so clean. Even my picky husband said it taste so good! Rice was not mushy.. it was, excellent! The Chow Hor Fun? I wont lie... I disnt have high hopes as a restaurant in the Carolinas. Boy was I wrong! The noodles were al dente, beautiful mix of all the veggies and protein. Sauce was a little sweet for my taste, so I was able to request for some chilli sauce and was all good. Also, not greasy. I was happy. My husband got the tuna sushi nigiri, tuna roll, salmon nigiri and white tuna. It was really good! Everything was bright and did not smell fishy. Last note - portions are freakin HUGE! Like i ate a third and took the rest' and the container was full. My daighters "kids" fried rice was packed to the brim. Expect left overs, u less your a competitive eater. The price, value and quality, this was def a 5 star - our first and only in our vacation here. Highly recommend - speaking as a Chinese vacationing in the carolinas that was getting desperate for any semblance of chinese food

While I do wish to acknowledge that Watami Sushi And Noodles does have the absolute legal right to deny anyone service; the staff of Watami Sushi And Noodles does not have the legal right to discriminate against anyone and violate anyone's Civil Rights on the basis of race, religion, and/or creed. Around 1:15 p.m. on  Wednesday, May 13, 2026, I entered Watami Sushi And Noodles on 33 South Main Street, Waynesville, North Carolina with the only goal of having lunch. When the hostess saw me, she had a look of absolute shock terror on her face and instead of greeting me with a "Hello" or "Welcome," she immediately tried to get me to just get take out only.  Only after repeatedly stating several times that I didn't want to order take out and that I wanted to dine there, she waved to a host/server who took one look at me and loudly said "OH" before seating me at a small table in the middle of the establishment.  Please note, there were other diners there. None of the staff was friendly or welcoming and rebuffed my attempts at conversation.  The waitress had an angry expression and tone with me, but not with other patrons in the restaurant. I ordered Chicken Teriyaki with a Green Salad and a side of Miso Soup.  Both the Miso Soup and Chicken Teriyaki were lukewarm, boarding on cold.  The Green Salad was crisp and fresh.  I didn't get a chance to finish to soup or the salad because it was taken away post haste once my lunch order had arrived. Now why did the staff of Watami Sushi And Noodles act they way they did when I entered their establishment. Well, this is just my opinion, based on their actions:  they didn't welcome or want an observant Jew who was wearing a yamicha, along with business casual clothes, in their establishment. ZERO STARS.

The staff were extremely helpful. I mentioned I was looking for vegetarian options, and the bar tender thoughtfully guided me through the various options on both the tapas and ramen menus. That made for a great experience. In terms of the food, I opted for the miso eggplant and the garlic butter broccoli. Both were excellent. The miso eggplant is served as well cooked Japanese eggplant with a light tempura treatment and somewhat sweet miso glaze. Not too heavy, but still delicious and nicely textured. The broccoli was perfectly cooked with lots of flavor. It made for a nice pairing. In terms of beer, they had a few different local beers on tap. I went for a local pale ale. Great. In any case, this place is highly recommended. I suspect their vegetarian ramen would probably be pretty good, but that was a little heavier than what I was looking for. It was nice to have a few other vegetable forward options available as a backup.

The entire bowl was phenomenal & I wished we had gone back there, the boiled egg they gave was also roasted and the bamboo shoots were fresh, the meat so tender and juicy, and the broth is very tasty!! I craving it while typing and a watery mouth! My partner and I shared a Miso Ramen and I wish we had something similar where I live!!! The decorations were cool and retro and the staff were nice, just an odd waitress but food is amazing!

It is located in downtown Asheville so there is no immediate parking lot but there are some places nearby or street parking, The inside is very modern and there is seating both inside and outside. Our server was very friendly and service was very prompt! My family got the Lo Mein with Chicken, Chow Fun with Beef, Sautéed String Bean, Buddha Bean Curd Rolls, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, and Spicy Chicken. I loved the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings! The wrapper was very tender and the shrimp filling was delicious. It tasted very authentic to me. I also loved the Sautéed String Bean as it had the right amount of garlicky sauce. The Lo Mein was made with thinner than usual noodles but still tasted good. I think the Chow Fun tasted a bit off. It kind of tasted a bit sweet and like drunken noodles at some points as opposed to the traditional smoky flavor that the dish has. The rice noodles that were used were also thin as opposed to the usual wider noodles. As for the Spicy Chicken, it tasted solid. I liked the slight crisp before biting into each piece and it was not really spicy. I definitely tasted the cumin (I am not a super big fan of), which is a popular flavor found in Szechuan cuisine. Overall, I think this is a nice spot for some Chinese food, especially being near the mountains which is more isolated. I wish chicken feet were part of their dim sum menu (it is pretty small and there are no rolling carts in case anyone is wondering). I do think some flavors of the food I tasted seem to cater a bit more to the Western taste palate (my parents agree as well), but I enjoyed my time here.
