I was so excited for this place. We ordered a number of dishes. It was supposed to be delivered in about 10 mins. The restaurant canceled. This was after they accepted our order 40 mins when we submitted the request. We waited for 45 mins for it to be delivered. Huge disappointment to have it canceled before we planned to eat. This place is a Helene survivor and under new management... the food is hands DOWN some of the best curry I've ever had! Get the yellow sweet and add some spice! Also the sushi boat was amazing!! The food was mediocre. The Pad Thai was made using only one of two spices and no egg, no peanuts, no tamarind sauce etc. The service was bad. We were given the check before ordering dessert. I loved the decor and ambiance of this restaurant. As for service, the waiters were good about refilling our water cups and the food came out reasonably fast. I ordered the turmeric curry with chicken and it was so good!! The curry sauce had amazing flavor and the perfect hint of spice. The vegetables were soft and tender and the rice on the side went beautifully with the dish. My sisters ordered the pad Thai and pad see-ew and both of these dishes had great flavor as well. Maybe use THAI BASIL in your dishes, that's the point. It is completely different than regular basil, more taste, flavor and fragrance it gives to each dish. I know the difference. I worked for Surin of Thailand for a few years, Google that restaurant. The original owners of this Black Mountain location made authentic thai food and even grew their own THAI BASIL beside the restaurant. Now, this is some kind of fusion place. At least change the name. So disappointed. read more

We got dinner to-go and I have to say it was amazing. The won ton soup was delicious. We ordered steamed dumplings at the suggestion of the server and they were the most flavorful dumplings I've ever had. The glass noodles with chicken (ordered with no bell peppers- there was one wayward pepper but it didn't ruin the whole dish) was absolutely delicious. Pretty solid Thai restaurant. My AirBnB host recommended this restaurant during my stay in Black Mountain. I ordered the Thai Basil Dumplings and their Pineapple Fried Rice. Both were delicious! The food was great especially the amount you get for a lunch special which go for like $9 a plate. You can do brown rice for an up charge as well. Lots of options on the lunch menu and also some appetizers. We got the chicken green curry which came with a huge container of rice and the Thai basil chicken with brown rice. Both were delicious and we were so hungry we forgot to take a picture. As for the service I can't say it's even a 3 star. Like just about everywhere these days, restaurants are short staffed. Thai Basil is no exception. Still, we got our food and drinks quickly, and it was all delicious. The Tom Kha with tofu was so full of goodies it almost felt like a meal in itself (and I got the small portion as an appy). And my spicy eggplant (with fried tofu, but you can get several alternative main proteins) was not just flavorful, but oh so colorful. Local beer options were also delish; no surprise in the greater Asheville area. Definitely worth checking out if you are visiting Black Mountain. Best Thai food in Asheville area, technically it's in Black Mountain though, and worth the drive for us. (((As a regular yelper I've taken a hiatus from writing reviews and came out of the woodworks to help Thai Basil be known. I think they are struggling due to covid as they have notes up that they are short-staffed, not answering phones at times, and have been out of menu items. This is all speculation though)). Overall, this is the best Pad Thai and best Thai food, as I've tried a lot in Asheville, Miami, and New York. It's perfectly seasoned, not too much fish sauce or too sweet, the flavor and noodles are perfectly cooked. We prefer to sit out on the patio and enjoy the cheap lunch specials (under $10! and huge portions). There is a strong fish smell inside so we tend to sit outside or get take-out. Beautiful view of downtown Black Mountain too and a nice area to walk around afterwards. It beats every other Thai place I've tried by a landslide. Highly recommend!! read more

Giving this restaurant 3 stars because the service was poor & the food was okay. Our waiter seemed very uninterested & hardly spoke at all. The noodles were good but nothing crazy good. Disappointed because almost all of the places I have been to in Black Mountain have been excellent. I got the Pad Chow Mein. The cup I got for my drink was super scratched up too. Coy the manager in tonight was incredibly rude and disrespectful, as well as illegally discriminatory towards a person with a registered ADA disability and a registered well behaved service dog. He was unwilling to recognize the actual law, even when informed of the law and ADA guidelines and instead insisted he was correct, did not apologize, and did not take the time to even acknowledge or view the official diagnosis and paperwork when given. Coy continued to disregard a loyal customer, refuting he'd met us before and couldn't care less he was acting illegally and disrespectfully. I cried leaving and am heartbroken others may experience this level of illegal discrimination. Please do not frequent this establishment until Coy is no longer there. read more

I was in town for a local herbal symposium at the YMCA and was looking for something hardy and delicious to eat. Everybody at the symposium raved about how great this Thai restaurant was from their previous years. It was about an hour before they closed for dinner prep and I was frantically searching the menu, trying to decide what I wanted to order! Their menu had multiple categories of delicious sounding meals. It made it pretty hard for me to decide on just one! I finally decided on the spicy eggplant with chicken stirfry. The meal was prepared quickly, which made me very happy. The eggplant sauté was a light mild spice. The eggplants were bright purple and were gorgeous upon opening the plastic container. The pop of color was definitely attractive among the orange carrots and various sautéed veggies. There was just enough sauce and overall the portion size was perfect. The rice was a little dry, but no reason to mark off for that. If you are ever in the Black Mountain area, definitely stop by Thai Basil and try an entrée, or two! read more

This place was amazing! The hours weren't the best but when we finally got to go here on our trip to black mountain we were not disappointed. My mom and I started with the Curry puff appetizer which has ground chicken and is encased in the most delicious fried crispy shell. We also tried the Tom Kha soup which I have never had and now I regret all my past decisions- I can't believe I have ever tried this soup and I'm not sure if it's just this places version of it but it is the best thing I've ever tasted. After the starters we shared the massaman curry which is my all time fave (theirs was food but not the best I've ever had) and tried something new- siracha noodle. This also made me want to reevaluate my life choices- why have I never had this??!! It was so spicy but so delicious!! The meat portions weren't the most generous but the shrimp and chicken were so tasty. Wish it was cleaner here and the wait staff could definitely be friendlier and more helpful but the cooks know what they're doing!! read more

We've gotten take out from TB three times in the past 2 months. The food is good - well prepared. Very tasty and some dishes have a unique Thai flare. My only observation is the staff have always been short, sometimes rude and never really engage. In fact, they convey frustration about being too busy. Busy is good in the food service world. Delicious food! We got a curry, stir fry and salad and all of it was perfectly seasoned. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was full, chilly out so the patio wasn't open- really nice to walk through though! I noticed the comments about the service when I looked this place up- there were 2 guys that we interacted with- one was very warm and attentive, the other wasn't as warm, but was just as attentive! We got our food fast, our drinks were always filled, they were bussing and cleaning other tables and asking how the guests were as they went. If you want a place with servers who are performative, maybe this isn't your spot. If you want really good food and to be taken care of in an efficient and kind way, this is it. read more

Witnessed a horrific interaction with the man identifying himself as the manager (Koy?) and a disabled customer. Saw him berate and demean a woman and her service dog this past week to the point she left in tears. His rudeness and condescending attitude towards her and her disability were disgusting to witness. He openly and publicly questioned her disability, and then had the audacity to tell her that her disability "didn't qualify". Absolutely shameful. I'm in town for a conference and I've eaten here three days in a row mainly because I've been craving Asian food this week and choices in Black Mountain are limited. I've had the fresh basil rolls, pad kee mow, pad thai, and tom yum soup. The noodle dishes were fine, but I keep coming back for the tom yum. The amount of seafood is generous, and the broth is the perfect blend of sweet, savory, spicy, and sour. Service is slow, but friendly. read more
