Delicious food! We got a curry, stir fry and salad and all of it was perfectly seasoned. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was full, chilly out so the patio wasn't open- really nice to walk through though! I noticed the comments about the service when I looked this place up- there were 2 guys that we interacted with- one was very warm and attentive, the other wasn't as warm, but was just as attentive! We got our food fast, our drinks were always filled, they were bussing and cleaning other tables and asking how the guests were as they went. If you want a place with servers who are performative, maybe this isn't your spot. If you want really good food and to be taken care of in an efficient and kind way, this is it. read more

Witnessed a horrific interaction with the man identifying himself as the manager (Koy?) and a disabled customer. Saw him berate and demean a woman and her service dog this past week to the point she left in tears. His rudeness and condescending attitude towards her and her disability were disgusting to witness. He openly and publicly questioned her disability, and then had the audacity to tell her that her disability "didn't qualify". Absolutely shameful. I truly hope she reports this to the board of health and the media. We will not be back. read more

I'm in town for a conference and I've eaten here three days in a row mainly because I've been craving Asian food this week and choices in Black Mountain are limited. I've had the fresh basil rolls, pad kee mow, pad thai, and tom yum soup. The noodle dishes were fine, but I keep coming back for the tom yum. The amount of seafood is generous, and the broth is the perfect blend of sweet, savory, spicy, and sour. Service is slow, but friendly. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I ordered a vegetarian dish from this restaurant. When my husband brought it home, it had chicken in it. I called, and the manager tried to tell me it was egg. I told him it was definitely chicken. He argued with. Me, insisted I send a photo, and hung up on me. I sent the photo. I told him that I wanted a refund, and that since he was so very rude he should rename it for free since it was part of a larger order and we get take out there regularly. What can I say about this place? Good service and even better food! Server was attentive, offered refills and got my order right. Food cooked to your liking, good portion for the $$ and very fresh! Bar none, the best Thai food within 100 miles of Asheville. Takes me about 35 mins each way, but well worth it.  I will def come back and recommend. read more

Somehow when I looked at this restaurant on Yelp I was totally turned off and had no interest. My husband thought I remembered the Yelp stuff wrong and sort of forced me into going. So glad he made me go! It was great. I got the Pad See Ew with extra crispy tofu. When I order it that way, some people say that yes, they can do "extra crispy" but then, when they bring it out it's soggy. Soggy tofu is not my thing. Anyway, I digress. The vegetables were also cooked just how I like them. Sort of al dente. Crispy. Fresh. It was a great dish and I at all of the veggies and toffee and about half of the delicious noodles. My husband and I both said that since our food wasn't heavy or greasy that altho we got plenty to eat, we didn't feel overly full or gross. My family had an awesome experience at Thai Basil. Seating is on the patio and we were relieved they were observing social distancing. The waiter/cashier (I didn't get his name) was very accommodating and moved a few tables to sit our party of six. The menu was extensive and tempting. All of us enjoyed our selections, which included 2 young children. Tasty and filling entrees on a grey rainy day. Service was friendly, warm and attentive. I would say the food was solid. The service was poor. I was not asked if I needed napkins or silverware & they didn't add it to the bag & it's all to go as it is during the pandemic so I'm surprised they don't have that down by now. I wasn't asked about spice level or white or brown rice, just nothing general was covered. The guy on the phone was so monotone & couldn't be bothered. As for the food it was good. I asked for no fish sauce & I didn't taste it so that's a plus & the Masaman had like a ginger or lemongrass flavor that was unique. The curry wasn't as strong as most but good all the same. The peanut broccoli tofu was good too could have used some spice. Over all would have to -go again if I was in the area. read more

I have to start off by saying the food itself was really good. However, the man who greeted us and served us was so rude it was almost comical. In fact, I thought he was joking at first. Because no one in their right mind would actually speak that way to a potential customer coming in. I wanted to leave immediately, but my friend was super hungry and just wanted to get served, so we ended up staying. While we were waiting for our food, I looked up other Yelp reviews and saw a ton of them also saying how rude the staff was. If the staff had been nicer (hey, even just minimally decent), I'd give this place a higher rating. Came in on a cold Saturday night around 7 and the place was empty. We were seated righty away. Great ambiance. On a cooler night we would have sat on the patio but inside was just as lovely. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Helped me pick out exactly what I wanted and didn't even mind that I made a few changes. Our food came out pretty fast. It was flavorful but was missing something. I got the Tom Khai soup and my partner got the pad Thai. Huge portions for both. They tasted good. I wanted a simple yellow curry nothing big something anyone could do. I received a plate with precooked chicken over steamed white and sweet potatoes that somehow we're both over steamed and undercooked maybe left in the steamer too long at too low of a temperature. Stop by for an early Sun dinner and was pleasantly surprised on the entire experience. It was a lovely evening and we choose to sit on the patio.. Barely saw the interior but can vouch for the nice covered patio that is surrounded by a brick wall and you would never know you are on a busy corner. I had the red pineapple curry with chicken and it was a perfect balance of a smooth red curry sauce with fresh crispy vegetables. Wanted to have take out from here. Couldn't get through kept getting busy signal so decided to drive there and just order. 5 pm on a Thursday. No parking because they only have like 3 parking spots. Parked down the road about 2 blocks away. Walked in and waited 5 minutes to get greeted. A few woman were standing around but just for the bathroom as it is right next to the hostess spot. Finally some white tattooed guy in a dirty shirt greeted me. I asked him if I could place a to go order and he said because of a table of 14 just sat down it would be at least and hour and a half. No questions about what I was ordering or anything. Needless to say bad service, gross looking and not authentic at all. Will never be back read more

Asked if we could split up our party and they said we could but it would take a very long time to get our food and they were very busy so they dont recommend it. I love Thai food. I've eaten it at several restaurants in Asheville so I decided to try Thai Basil when I was in Black Mountain today at lunchtime. Mistake. Food was bland and overcooked. Service was terrible! They had one guy running the entire front-of-house, inside and outside, and dude was SO unfriendly. We got the distinct impression that we were more an annoyance than welcome guests. If the food had been good, we could've overlooked the rude service, but it wasn't. The noodles in the Pad See Ew were so overcooked I couldn't even use the chopsticks. They just fell apart like mush. The Pad Thai had entirely none of the classic sweet, sour, spicy balance. It was just sweet, sweet, sweet. The proteins were overcooked and all of the dishes lacked any spice, whatsoever. If you're in Black Mountain and are craving Thai food, do yourself a favor and drive 15 minutes to Asheville and eat at Thai Orchid or Doc Chey's. read more

There's a guy (white, 30's maybe) that works there that I've dealt with before whose consistently unpleasant, but not enough to let it bother me too much. Food is good enough to make up for it. This is probably the best Thai I've had. I'm not a Thai connoisseur by any means, but every time I'm in Black Mountain I try to make it a point to stop in. I've enjoyed going there and every meal I've had was top notch. What they're doing is classic but not boring by any means. Like Erik said, the dishes are flavor packed but they're approachable and well thought out. Generous portions and crisp vegetables. I like my Thai hot and the flavor that they can infuse into the heat is really incredible. There's nothing wrong with this place. It's got a more traditional Thai house feel but I like that...it's like you're in someones house and they're cooking just for you. I'd give em 5 stars but we can't just go handing out 5 stars left and right, can we? As far as fish sauce goes...are you kidding me?
