Maruchabirria (cup ramen with loads of birria broth and two huge hunks of beef hiding under the toppings)
Elliot K.

Drool worthy authentic Mexican food for a great price! There are Mexican snacks and spices on shelves by the register, and a cooler full of drinks incase you somehow don't enjoy their horchata. You can sit outside, in the front, or in the cooler back area. My boyfriend's go to is the steak torta, and I always go for the maruchabirria (ramen in a rich birria broth with big hunks of beef). We also share some hot cheetos elote and a couple of BOMB street tacos (any type is perfect, especially drenched in their spicy green salsa, trust me). They deserve more business, and they'll certainly be getting more of ours!

We were in town for an event and decided to check this restaurant out. It's an old diner turned into a Mexican Resturant. There was nothing fancy about this place but the food was delicious! The food is very fresh and flavorful. Probably one of the tastiest refried beans I have had. My whole family really enjoyed their food. The staff is very welcoming. They greet you the minute you walk in. They are very attentive and the service and readiness of the food was quick . We will be returning once in the area again. I was not able to take more pictures because my family was too quick to dig in.

Our whole dinner. Shrimp fajitas and a Burrito

Food, atmosphere and employees were amazing. I cant wait to go back. I have my eye on those dessert nachos

Burrito with shrimp substituted for diablo sauce

Mama Said Hand Pies - Vegan knish

Mama Said Hand Pies

Tried out the savory cheddar potato and the sweet cherry almond hand pies. Both were delicious and…read morea great snack. They are a great homemade option when you are looking for a quick small meal.

I had visited and enjoyed Mama Said at their walk-up location downtown, so I was excited to see…read morethat they were opening in a long-vacant location on Tburg Rd. The parking lot is often full, so I'd looked forward to stopping in. The ordering set-up wasn't so different from their original store. A selection of around 6-8 different savory and sweet hand pies are in a glass case on the counter. There are vegan, gluten-free, etc. options, which is great. There's a fresh locally-sourced salad in a small clamshell that you can add, as well as cold bottled drinks. You order your pies and café beverages and take a seat. The pies are not reheated, they go right from the case to your plate, somewhat disappointing. The dining room is half restaurant half lounge, a bit chaotic but cozy. The pies are good, but not generous. Sweet ones are around $5 and the savory are between $6-7, almost $8 each for some. As a result of the cost, we only got three of them for the two of us. They are on the smaller side..Our shared salad was really good, but I hated the plastic clamshell aspect of it, the plastic waste. The café drinks were good, a chai and a latte. Overall, we left feeling disappointed that we had spent $48 including tip on food that we ate in 10 minutes and that left us still hungry. I had hoped that they would have "hand pie combo-plates" with, say, two-three pies, a side and maybe a salad. That would've been filling. The simple ingredients and the (likely) advanced preparation involved in making hand pies with inexpensive ingredients makes the high cost and the small selection and serving size hard to understand. I guess my plan for next time is to focus on the café drinks and cozy vibes and not to go in hungry.
