Tacos CDMX has the best street-style tacos in the entire Ithaca area, hands down. I moved here after 20+ yrs in California where food truck tacos are not only a staple, but an edible art form that is both approachable and cherished. Here, the food is never prepared in an overly curated-for-Instagram-but-empty-inside kind of way, but rather with a focus on simple ingredients prepared with care in a slow-food way that emphasizes their deep, rich flavor. My favorite is the Al pastor taco with pineapple, a combo of guacamole and chipotle salsas, with fried cheese added on top of the diced onions and cilantro. To die for!! And still only $5 each. This afternoon, after eating literally hundreds of their tacos over the last few years, I tried their smash burger. Absolutely outstanding! Might be the best burger in town as well, it's honestly that good. And only $10! A few weeks ago I had a burger from a local restaurant for $20, which seems to be the going rate, and it paled in comparison to their oh!-so-tasty-you-can't-stop-licking-your-fingers burger! And if you ask, they'll customize it for you with a fried egg, or in my case, with lots of extra fried onions. Their torta sandwiches have also garnered a cult following due to their packed ingredients and massive size, still just for $14. If you're lucky, in the warmer months Eduardo might be serving some of his delicious aqua frescas, or even better, some of his incredible lemonade beverages. Sooooo refreshing! The bonus: you get to hang out with these cool and friendly guys Eduardo & Carlos, as well as their friendly staff who work so hard to make your food so delicious. This place is truly an Ithaca treasure! And more good news: they just moved (May 2026) from Press Bay Alley (118 W Green St) to Press Bay Court (114 W Green St), where they now offer plenty of indoor seating, a big improvement over the old place that only had room for a handful of people at a time. Their outdoor seating has grown as well, and the overall ambiance is more festive and fun. I was soooo excited to c a taco shop here and with carne asada and pollo, I was already going in there knowing from the pics that the tortillas aren't authentic and homemade, very sad about that. With that said I highly believe any taco or burrito needs a great homemade tortilla or it ruins it and this 'mission' tortilla was no exception and made the taco not so pleasant with a sweet factory taste. I saw them cook my ribeye taco and put seasoning on it but it wasn't enough unfortunately. Ordered 2 carne asada and 1 al pastor tacos. All meats are precooked like chipotle and warmed up on a grill, no bueno! The owner was inside talking to a woman about being authentic, etc. Well, then the al pastor should've been cut off of a spit and the carne should've been cooked fresh. Couple that with the carne asada was the wrong cut of meat and way too thick! Tables were dirty but worker dude was friendly. Doubt I'll be returning unless they revise a lot of things and offer freshly cooked food instead of reheated kinda sorta authentic Mexican food. read more

I love this place! Probably the best tacos that I've had in Ithaca so far. I originally came here for Press Cafe but then realized that there was a whole alley. The service was great and the guy at the counter was super friendly. Each taco is $5. The asada tacos that we got tasted amazing. I loved the pineapple topping for some acidity and tartness. This is the best tacos I've ever had in New York... but to be fair it's the only taco place I tried in New York.... But it's still one of the best tacos places I've tried overall ... I wish I got MORE beef tongue My friends were like "you like lengua..." and I was like who doesn't love it... it's like a big beefy kiss. So succulent and delicious. Yummy. It's a really small area and we were a pretty big group but the tacos are too delicious and people tend to just inhale it and then go about their business so once our food was ready, seats were available. I believe the owners have not read it yet. I didn't get any feedback on it yesterday... (Quick Mexican food lesson: tacos that have cheese in them are not called tacos but quesadillas.) This place is for you if you want a nice picture of you visiting town for the people at home to think you are oh-so-cultured. This place is not for you if you are an attractive woman. The owner will oogle you Non-Stop and I've told him a couple of times to stop cat calling women and I think he has stopped but he will not stop staring at your boobs and your butt. He doesn't care to hide it either. This place is not for you if you are in the lgbtq+ spectrum. The owner is openly homophobic. This place is not for you if you are lactose intolerant. The cheese is placed on every taco and they do not clean between the orders. Do not even think of ordering here if you have a serious gluten allergy. This place is not for you if you are vegan. The owner boasts that he has never worked with tofu before. When I have asked him for a vegan torta, he puts normal Mayo on it. This place is not for you if you are not used to the heat in this town outdoors or if you have any kind of allergy to bees or wasps. The tables are tightly placed with one another and the space has no air conditioning. The trash is not properly handled so there are bees and wasps everywhere and you can get stung. I got stung once here and I had to go to the emergency room and drove myself after putting up like a balloon. The owner made no attempt to help me. Let me be clear if that was not clear enough: I experienced an anaphylactic reaction in this establishment and the owner made no attempt to help me. Thank God it was me and not one of my children. This place is not for you if you do not have an iron strong mexican gut that can take unsanitary conditions. The employees make a pasable piece of food but have been trained by someone that does not know how to teach them to change gloves between orders or handling cash. I am 100% sure there has not been a food inspection and if there has been it was a performative one. Finally this place is not for you if you are looking to create community in this town. When I stopped by a couple of days ago to congratulate Eduardo on being featured on CNN, he complained for a few minutes, not just a few seconds, about the burden of having to serve all of you. About how it's not fun anymore. About him being so tired of serving all these gringos. There are so many better businesses in this town that actually want to serve you. I can't believe I only found out about this place as I was about to move out! Ithaca has always had a taco problem - it has very few Mexican restaurants and even fewer (maybe none!) than can do a decent taco. Well, this is no longer true. Tacos CDMX is here to save the day and here's why: First, they are conveniently located by the Commons. Second, they have an amazing selection of flavors - it's not just 'steak' or 'chicken', but they have Asada, Al Pastor, Chorizo, Lengua, Ribeye, Birria, Chicken. Third, you can add a crispy cheese crust (included) to any taco. Fourth, the staff is really friendly and warm. Fifth, the new location looks very cute. Dirty counters, floors, tables etc. the whole place is full of grease and grime like he never cleans and is just shoving oil around. I only tried Tacos Cdmx for the first time a few weeks ago despite being a senior at Cornell, and I'm sad I didn't try them sooner! The place is unassuming, tucked away in Press Bay Alley, but the decor and vibes were great. While there was a line when I first got there, the service was efficient, and the line moved along quickly. Also, there's a nice seating area in the alley with picnic tables for you to enjoy your tacos if it's a warm day. I'm not a great judge of the authenticity of tacos, but I can say with certainty that they were delicious. Fantastic Mexican street tacos at this small walk-up-and-order counter. A small menu of choices, all fantastic. Expect to eat about 4 tacos per person for a normal hungry eater. A small handful of seats in the stall, with lots more in the alley outside. Try their homemade cucumber-limeade, it's incredibly refreshing and perfect with the tacos. Prepare to order as follows: 1 - You'll be asked "How many tacos?" This is so they can start your order by placing down the requisite number of tortillas on the griddle. 2 - Next you'll tell them what type of meat you want. 3 - Pineapple? 4 - Salsa? Im honestly torn because I do like the tacos and its a short walk form my office for lunch...BUT the owner is extremely rude and gives off a pretty creepy vibe (as a women I probably feel this more than others..just saying) In addition, one time i went with my son who at that time had the teenager mop of hair that he would flip up out of his face. Yeah not everyone's cup of tea and even so for this momma BUT its my kid and it was the "style". Anyways, the owner made a point to criticize my son for his hair and the way he looks. I had the vegetarian tacos made with a soy based product, topped with pineapple - delicious! I also treated myself to a flan and rice pudding which were equally good. Everything tasted so authentic, served quickly and with friendly service. First experience at CDMX Tacos in Press Bay Alley: I'm second in line so just standing in line looking at the menu, what beverages are in the fridge and overall decor of the place and I hear shouts at me from the owner: "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT!!!!?" I just ignore that. As the other guy behind the counter making the tacos then asks "how many tacos?" not what kind---I say that I wanted two vegan tacos, and he immediately throws two piles of cheese on the flattop grill. I ask him if that is vegan cheese, of course it wasn't. I'm allergic to dairy--and he didn't seem to be trained to know there is a difference. So I ignore that mix-up for the moment and I ask the owner, who was standing next to him, what is the "vegan taco?". He rudely barks back "IT MEANS NO MEAT" So I ask what is in it and he proceeds to be incredibly rude, never bothering to tell me what the food is he's trying to sell. I don't know the guy. I wasn't walking into a place demanding anything and he just starts berating a potential new customer. Tacos. I was just trying to get a couple tacos--and he's causing chaos. I certainly will NOT go back there. I just walked out without any further interaction with this stranger who decided to be rude to me, the guest. I would consider this authentic tacos. If you've never been to a place owned and operated by immigrants, or if you're a sensitive person who doesn't understand other cultures, maybe you'll have a hard time here. Orders are fast: choose your taco, filling, and salsa, and then you're on your way. No fuss, no muss. My wife has a severe gluten allergy and we have never had a problem. The first time we went, my wife asked, "there's no flour, is there?" And the owner said, "haha no, only corn. We are Mexicans!" The owner always offers my daughter a little piece of fruit and jokes around with her while we're waiting. It's a small place with limited seating, maybe 2 indoor tables, but on nice days there's plenty of seating in the alley. It's basically a food truck that never moves.
