I've had brunch, lunch, and dinner at MIX, and all with varying levels of enjoyment. My recent brunch experience included ordering a Where the West Begins omelette, which includes "Braised short rib, butternut squash, red onion jam, spinach, smoked gouda". I wasn't sure how to feel about butternut squash with everything else (I'm not necessarily a huge squash fan - but I'm trying to learn to enjoy it), but the omelette was decent... it's the other side on my plate that looked less than appetizing. The biscuit was still covered in flour (and who wants to bite down on a clump of flour?), the cheddar hashbrown casserole lacked in flavor, and the brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal just... wasn't doin' it for me. Other recent experiences have been similar... there's usually one item on the plate that's flavorful or imventive (sometimes a main dish, sometimes a side), and the other parts of the plate are lacking. In reality, I think MIX is suffering a bit from rising food costs and inconsistency in their service and offerings. They've also changed the style of their menu from the original tapas-style to now being more typical entree options. Again... they've lost some of their innovative, experimental approach. In terms of ambiance, it really depends. I've been here for a work event and, because of the number of people, it was SO LOUD... they had also done a buffet offering for the event. As you can imagine, the food from the buffet was lacking, but that's often what happens when you're more mass producing your food (and it's left in a chafing dish, trying to be kept warm). On the other hand, I've been here for a dinner on a random night and was able to enjoy one of their Thai noodle bowls (and split some other apps with friends). The reality is that experiences at MIX are... well... a mix. Whether service, menu offerings, etc., I've found MIX's recent inconsistencies to be a disappointment. Will probably only visit in the future if it's suggested by others. read more

we made a resy for 5 for a wednesday night dinner, not crowded at all and our server was the most darling lady. she checked on us many times and would call us "love" after she would take our orders or give us more water. it was very nice and homey. we came here initially because in the past it's been a tapas place and we were looking forward to sharing small plates. unfortunately they changed their menu so they mostly do individual entrees now with a plethora of options from spaghetti to steak to burgers to thai noodles (lots of options) thai mussel bowl - 3/5 mussels a little ocean-y fishy tasting and the thai sauce a little liquidy brazilian cheesy bread gluten free 4/5 - yum appetizers delicious crunchy with cheese inside. the red dipping sauce was just tomato sauce a little strange but not bad osco bucco 3/5 - a little salty but a solid pork shoulder. the gnocci was also fried which was interesting italian sub with house salad 4/5 - good solid sub, i could only finish half and ate my entire side salad which had nice breaded croutons (not the dense thick ones) red clam linguine 4/5 - not bad, only about 4 clams but some more inside the pasta penne alla vodka 3.5/5 - a solid pasta nothing special read more

My friends and I came in for brunch and everything was delicious! Our waitress was very nice and friendly. She was knowledgeable about the menu and answered all of our questions. I started with the Raspberry Pear Mimosa and it was so fun because it had a raspberry sorbet float that melted so smoothly, I also got the Braised Short Rib Benedict and it was so tasty. You get the option to order a single or double and it also comes with a fruit cup and cheddar hash brown casserole. My friend is vegetarian and ordered the Veggie Crab Cake Benedict and she said it tasted great and was full of flavor. I also got an Espresso Martini and it was so good I could've had a few. They had music playing that was like a classical take on today's hits and it really set the mood for a fun brunch experience. This is definitely a hidden gem in Ithaca. First time sitting in the bar area. Love the vibe but the tables seem a bit close/small so we opted for the bench. Folks beside us ordered the wedge salad and it was impressive enough that one of us opted for the same thing. I chose mussels in the "French style" - white wine, tomatoes, lemon, capers, butter - instead of Thai or Italian. Fresh hot (drop 'em, they're that hot) cheesy popovers to start. Mussels were well cleaned (no grit, no beards, no broken shells) but am not a fan of crostini (toooooo crunchy) so left a ton of yummy dipping liquid behind. The good: outside seating that is dog friendly. The brought over a dog bowl which was nice. It's a quaint place with a cute water fountain. Ordered a sloppy burger and a short rib brisket sandwich. I liked by short rib sandwich overall, I thought it could have been more generous on the meat given the price. The not so good: The burger though was disappointing, it lacked any resemblance of a sloppy Joe and the quality of beef and texture of the patty left alot to be desired, since it was not juicy at all and my husband was disappointed in his choice. I joined Cornell CHAARG, an organization (rather scammy one but that's beyond the point) dedicated to showing college-aged women that fitness can be fun and fulfilling. Anyways... what did I get out of it? An awesome group of people and well... MIX. Updating my review because MIX deserves a proper shoutout and I haven't done it justice. This place is unequivocally my absolute FAVORITE brunch spot. The selection is vast, the portions are hearty, and the staff? They're the kindest, most accommodating folks you'll meet. It's like they've mastered the art of making you feel right at home. And the food? Oh, the food is ABSOLUTELY divine. Every bite is a delicious reminder of why I've converted to the church of brunch. I have been coming to MIX for dinner a few times a year since it was open, the change from Tappas basically created an all new menu. The menu looked broad enough to please anyone. I'm not an Asian Fusion guy so I've only had the Italian side. The Osso Bucco with Gnocchi is as good as I make at home, and a peer to most restaurants I've had it in. Excellent and a large portion. The Bolognese was also very good. The staff is personable & friendly, always a decent crowd, place is clean. The back area fancy enough for a nice date and the bar dining area for a casual night, virtually unchanged since it was Lucatelli's but not dated. The menu options were great! I wasn't sure how well they would pull it off, serving Asian fusion and Italian food on the same menu. Our waiter Max explained the menu and was very thoughtful, he took the time to tell us about the owners along with the local area! Overall, the food was really good! Very flavorful and an interesting mix of different cuisines! We ordered the pork bao buns, the mac & cheese, and the truffle fries. To start, they brought out popovers with a tomato based dipping sauce. These were warm, soft, and quite chewy (in a good way... maybe even the highlight of the meal)! The bao buns were fine. Make sure to ask them to remove the cashews if you have a nut allergy! They were a tad too oily, but the addition of pickled onion helped cut the grease. I really enjoyed the mac and cheese! Definitely not your traditional mac...it is rather sweet due to the cornbread and has an added complexity from the onion topping. The beef brisket was tender, but the pork that was in our mac & cheese was largely inedible as it was just cartilage. Still, I would order this dish again though! The fries were boring, and I wish there was a stronger truffle flavor. I came on Valentine's Day with a friend, and service was surprisingly very fast! Had a great breakfast here on their patio. It was great because we had our dog with us on a little weekend vacation and she was able to sit on the porch with nobody else on it. Mix is our favorite date night spot... the service and food is consistently the best in Ithaca (especially when you factor in parking). My favorite place to get a perfectly cooked Delmonico steak (the gorgonzola butter is yummy) and the new pasta dishes are amazing. Love the fun new apps (the French onion soup dumplings, Thai wings and devils on horseback). The cocktails are inventive and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The chefs here are wizards. The main reason I love MIX is because it's fearless in its endeavors to discover unique flavour pairings in food & drink. Even when I'm not in love with a dish, I can acknowledge it's because of my own preferences and not because the flavours in the dish weren't in harmony with one another. Also the interior design skills here are A1. I could NOT stop gawking at the interior and exterior of this restaurant. Especially at all the glasswork. Whoaaaaa! Hands down the best restaurant within 30 miles of Cornell!!! Where to start? Oy vey, I'm schvitzing ova here just reminiscing. The cheesy bread things that come out first are insane!! And before pass judgment on the marinara sauce drizzled with balsamic that comes for dipping, take a bite. BOOM!!! Faceful of flavor right there. Just wow! I was taken here for my birthday celebration and it was amazing. I love the atmosphere, inside and out. The menu wasn't too overwhelming with plenty of different options. Everyone got a plate...or two and I sampled EVERYTHING. Everything was delicious!! Mussels, calamari, truffle pomme frites, Mexican street corn, vegan crab cakes, Thai street tacos and wild mushroom ravioli. We had a spread and nothing went to waste. We enjoyed a delicious meal at Mix recently. Olivia the bartender was very personable and welcomed us to Mix. She was attentive to my requests for gluten free food options. She provided us with delicious gluten free muffins with marinara dipping sauce which were delicious. I opted for the Bolognese sauce with gluten free penne. My husband had the Pork Belly Bao Buns. All the food was delicious; there are so many options. The ambiance was pleasant. We had visited to building when it was The Char Pit then Lucatellis so are familiar with the transition of the building over the years. The furnishings are fresh and updated. The outside seating space seems nice although it was raining the evening we visited so we didn't enjoy that space. When we're back in Ithaca we will definitely return to Mix. read more

We just love bartender Tristan! It's not too many places that we eat at in Ithaca where our bartender remembers us and provides out of this world service and amazing conversation. We go back again and again because we love the customer service and the delicious meals. Tonight we started with custom cocktails and their yummy biscuit/popovers with a flavorful tomato sauce topped with balsamic glaze. Then fresh from the kitchen the servers provided our fabulous meals. Mal and Tom got the garlic steak skewers and I had for the 3rd or 4th time the vegan noodle bowl with extra veggies topped with tofu. I can't possibly recommend this establishment enough. If you've not been don't wait any longer. If it's just you or a party of 3-4 I recommend visiting with Tristan at the bar. You won't be disappointed. I really wanted to enjoy my visit here -- the ambience is still great and the space has a warm, welcoming vibe. Unfortunately, the flavor and quality of the food have gone downhill since my last visit. Dishes lacked the depth and freshness I had come to expect. What really surprised me was the $6 charge for a small glass of orange juice -- which is clearly just Wegmans-brand juice. For the price and setting, I expect fresh-squeezed or at least something a little more intentional. It felt disappointing and out of step with the overall vibe the restaurant is going for. I hope the kitchen can bounce back, because the setting has so much potential -- but at the moment, I can't justify the value for the price. read more

I met a friend here for brunch around 10:30 am on Sunday and it was busy! They do have their own parking lot but it seems like it could fill up quickly on the weekend and they don't take reservations for brunch. Thankfully, we were seated pretty quickly for a table for 2. For drinks, I started with the strawberry basil mimosa which was really sweet but looked aesthetically pleasing. Next time, I would just get Prosecco. For entrees, I ordered the short rib omelette that came with a lot of sides! I asked for a biscuit but received a buttered bagel instead. I found the side of oatmeal was an odd side choice. The cheesy hashbrowns were good. My omelette was decent and I'd only recommend if you don't mind the more fatty pieces of short rib mixed with your eggs. My friend and I also split the MIX French toast that I later ate at home. It was a thick piece of sourdough bread that definitely needed more syrup. Overall, you get a ton of food for your money. I would be willing to come back and see if ordering something different might change my mind but I haven't seen too many brunch spots here in Ithaca so beggars can't be choosers. read more

Served hot and fresh and nice size portion. After we ordered, we were provided a complimentary basket of homemade cheese bread that was gluten free. A nice surprise and it was served warm. My wife ordered the Thai Street tacos which came with bacon kimchi fried rice and I ordered the 14 oz. New York strip steak which came with a cheddar cheese hash brown casserole and asparagus. My wife loved her tacos. Three hard shell tacos filled to the brim with tasty chicken, slaw, guacamole. My wife thought her fried rice was some of the best she ever had. It was different and creative. The fried rice was a large mound in the center of the plate. My steak was cooked to perfection. The cheddar cheese hash brown casserole was disappointing but I give them credit. I would have settled for another form of potatoes. We had a very good brunch at Mix last weekend. We were seated as soon as we arrived, and our waiter was friendly and attentive. I was impressed by how extensive the menu was. The mimosa I wanted to try was not available, so I ordered the strawberry basil one instead which was delicious (but I didn't notice any basil). I had the Mix's Mistake french toast which was good, although I was expecting it to be more like stuffed French toast.
