Thoroughly enjoyed our date night here. The ambience is very calm and upscale. Beautifully done inside. Server was lovely! I wish I caught her name. She was very helpful and prompt. We started with calamari which was lightly and delicately fried. Very yummy and the sauce was nice as well. We ordered the Game Burger and Smash Burger. Both were very good. I thought it was fun to have a burger on a lavash wrap - never seen that before! We also ordered a bottle of wine, but they were out of the smaller bottles. Our waitress recommended a carafe which was the same amount and same price. Only downside of this is that we ended up finishing a carafe and wanted to be able to re-cork it and take some home. Quaint and charming, modern restaurant in Homer Ny. They have a bakery attached where they make their own desserts. Service was slow but it was graduation day so restaurants were crowded so it was to be expected. We opened with the Hummus platter (we loved it so much we ordered 2) and the bison kabob and the calamari. I would definitely recommend this place if you are in Cortland Ny area. read more

My wife and stopped at The Exchange on the recommendation of a coworker and we were not disappointed. Parking was easy, the staff was incredible and food was amazing. A talented woman serenaded the room with guitar and violin and the ambiance is spot on. Calamari was fresh, lightly breaded and delicious. We loved the bagel crisps with the bacon and Brie. My wife commented she wants to come back but already knows she will be getting the Halibut Oscar again. I must note this was one of the fastest dining experiences we have ever had. We didn't feel rushed but were shocked at how fast our food was delivered. I recommend making reservations. We will definitely be back and will bring friends next time. read more

Stopped in for dinner during our stay in Homer and so glad we did! The ambience inside is so beautiful. They also have an outdoor patio for warmer weather. Our server was so sweet and welcoming! To start I ordered the Spicy Guava Margarita and my husband ordered a beer. I really loved my cocktail. They gave us bagel chips with herb butter to start. Very tasty! For my main I ordered the Pastrami Sandwich on sourdough with a side of Wild Cream of Mushroom Soup. Both were AMAZING! The pastrami was so thin and fresh and the sourdough bread was perfection. My husband ordered the Smashburger and he loved it too! The Smashburger comes on lavash bread instead of a bun so it's a little different, but so good. We were tempted to order their crepe cake but we were so full. Honestly everything on the dessert menu sounded amazing. We would definitely return! read more

We found our new favorite place for pre-show dining in Homer! The Exchange looks sparkling new and is the cleanest restaurant, including bathrooms I have seen. We were surprised to open the cocktail/wine menu because it was backlit. What a great idea, also used for their dessert menu. The ambiance is enhanced by lots of low lighting and music that does not overpower the conversation. We started with a delightful Caesar salad with crouton chips and a decorative but delicious cheese chip. I ordered the special for Friday, a broiled seafood platter with lobster Mac and cheese. My only disappointment was the amount of seafood as opposed to the large amount of Mac and cheese (see photo). I opted for the key lime pie...outrageously good. I love the location of this restaurant, the building is part of historic downtown Homer and absolutely beautiful. The service was excellent and the waitstaff were efficient and kind. This buttermilk fried chicken is rich and decadent! They give you hot honey to drizzle on top which really puts it over the top. Nice, cozy outside eating area. Would've given five-stars but The Exchange is yet another restaurant of late that adds 3% when you use a charge card. Sorry, but ALL restaurants that do this have it wrong. Credit cards were started for the sole purpose so diners wouldn't have to worry about if they had enough cash to make it through a meal. Credit cards create business. The cost to the business is WAY offset by the business created. Unless you're CASH ONLY, having two sets of prices for cash or credit is BAD BUSINESS. read more

This wasn't my first visit here and I can tell you it won't be my last. This place isn't just eloquent and lovely, a perfect place for a family dinner, friend get together, breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner. A date. It's wonderful. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind whenever I've been here. They do get busy at times so be sure to make reservations for larger parties. Plus, it's not the largest place (not small either) so reservations for large groups is ideal for time sake. The food is absolutely scrumptious. I have never been disappointed. The eggs benedicts was perfection. The fruit was fresh. Even the English muffin baked wonderfully. Absolutely perfect. I couldn't be more delighted to go here. This is a place that everyone should try. It is on the pricier side so expect to spend some money but it is absolutely worth every penny. I was very disappointed to pay good money for stale, overly sweet baked goods. The croissants were not flaky, just a hunk of sweet bread in a croissant shape. The sweet items that I purchased were stale. The crusts were tough and the fillings were chewy, not melting in your mouth and overly sweet. Lovely design, but service and food leave a lot to be desired. We were looking for a restaurant to celebrate my dad's 90th birthday and The Exchange showed promise: it's conveniently located on Main St in Homer in a very attractive building with loads of parking. I called three days in advance to make a reservation. The main number went to voicemail with no option to leave a message so I called the Bakery, which is a separate storefront. They helped me make a reservation for four and I indicated the special occasion. Although the restaurant has a somewhat formal feel to it and the prices are definitely for an upscale experience, the service was what you'd expect at a much more casual, down-scale establishment. Our server was wearing shorts (September) for dinner service for example. Service misses: - Charcuterie plate was served without the homemade crackers described on the menu. - Wine was opened but glasses never refilled - Soda was not refilled - I asked for silverware to be refreshed between courses and it was not done until reminded. Instead of bringing silverware they brought new rollups so we had extra cloth napkins. - The server was unaware of the special occasion even though it was noted in the reservation book and had to be reminded. Food & beverages: - For a restaurant with pretensions the wine list is very limited. With close proximity to Finger Lakes wineries one would expect a much wider selection of regional wines. - The beer selections are not included in the beverage menu - Calamari - crisp, light batter and tender squid, but served with a unremarkable aioli and not the traditional marinara - Charcuterie plate - nice selection of cheese, meat and fruit. The advertised house "saltines", more like flatbread, were not served until asked for. - Delmonico steak ($46) - probably one of the worst pieces of meat I have ever been served. I'm not sure what the cut was but it was very thin (1/2"), extremely fatty and very tough. I asked for it to be cooked medium rare but it was served rare. The fries were excellent and the baby broccoli was suitable. - Quinoa bowl - nice dish filled with fresh veggies - Fried chicken - nice presentation but served without white meat - Chicken fingers & fries - overcooked, probably a frozen product, skimpy on the fries - Side of green beans - not blanched before sauteed so underdone and oily - Chocolate fudge cake - excellent! and the birthday "candle" was like a roman candle--very impressive! The restaurant is striving to be an upscale eatery, but the service lacks training and polish and the kitchen is inconsistent. If you visit, stick with burgers and sandwiches and salads. read more

I am giving a 5 star review, but I will tell it wouldn't have happened from the beginning. First of our original waitress never came to table and took over 10 minutes to get menu. But Thankfully Jamie the GM stepped in especially when the waitress didn't like me asking her to stay for a few questions her name ChaCha. Jamie turn our celebration of our daughter and her boyfriend graduation of Cortland completely around. See was attentive and got our orders in and everyone's food was excellent. She apologized too much for her waitress attitude and aggressive behavior. I have worked in many restaurants that to say was over the top for anyone. Had a lovely brunch for our son's birthday. Restaurant is lovely and food was good. One complaint I have was cost of Juice and coffee. My husband got a glass of cranberry juice and it was maybe 4 oz of juice and the rest ice and it was $5.20. Regular Coffee was $3.20 for a cup. Stopped here for breakfast and was absolutely blown away. The interior is the perfect mix of historic charm and modern, hip vibes--such a cool space to enjoy a meal. We kicked things off with a gigantic cinnamon bun for the table and some boozy coffees (highly recommend!). Between us, we tried a little bit of everything: pancakes, the avocado and leek benedict, and a couple of breakfast sandwiches. Went here for "brunch" for my husband's milestone birthday. Brunch is usually a combination of breakfast and lunch, but here it means either order from the breakfast menu or the lunch menu. One of us ordered the French toast and another ordered the crème brûlée French toast. The only difference was the top toast on the crème brûlée had the caramelized sugar. Otherwise it was just a stack of French toast for $5 more. My husband's birthday wasn't even acknowledged and the waitress was informed. Game burger came out well not medium and was small. Salmon dip was basic. Upcharged on crumble blue cheese when they asked if we wanted "Creamy, crumble, or both." And I said both, go figure it was more money. Portions were small. The Gold Rush cocktail wasn't mixed good and had a 1/4 cup of honey just sitting in the bottom covering up the bad bourbon they used. And the Buffalo Trace old fashioned I ordered was $27.80!!! I could buy a bottle for $29. I haven't bought a cocktail that expensive in NYC, Boston, DC, or Nashville in the past 5 years. And it wasn't that good. Went for brunch on a Sunday. Super cute inside, whoever did the interior decor did a great job. we had two in our party, both ordered an omelette. Both thought the omelette came with toast and home fries plus fruit/salad. However it came with toast, then your option of home fries, fruit, salad. The way it is written on the menu is a little misleading and in different sections it is written differently. Under the omelette a it's written as "includes toast AND homefries, fresh fruit or a nice salad" under the Benedict's it's written as on "English muffins with homefries, fresh fruit or a nice salad." When we asked the server about the home fries, she brought us (1) plate and then charged us for them. So we guessed they were not included. They weren't good anyway, they were little round disks that tasted like old oil. Omelettes were decent. Would probably go back and try something different as the people around us ordered stuff that looked really good. read more
