Montezuma's Fish Tacos
Renee I.

I came here hungry and ready to eat just about anything. Luckily, the menu offers several good options. I ended up ordering the Montezuma Fish Tacos; they were good, but I didn't love it paired with the crunchy taco. It easily fell apart and made it hard to taste all toppings/pairing together. A special shoutout to the Refried Black Bean... some of the best I've had in a while. Service was good and our waiter gave decent recommendations. Overall a good meal and absolutely filling.

This is my first time here and it was very tasty. The mole was very good and the drinks were well-made. Find atmosphere really good salsa and a variety of food from Veracruz. The service is good and the interiors are very nice.

Gimme a Chimi!

As soon as I walked in I knew I was in for a good time - the smell told me the food will be good and my nose was right. I got the Gimme a Chili with chicken. From the presentation to the taste, this I enjoyed everything. The beans in inside a chip bowl, the fresh guac and seasoned rice, then the king - the chimichurri. The queso sauce was fitting and delicious with the rest of the meal. The staff was friendly and helped me with my drinks (I was being picky!) Come inside to be transported to veracruz, mexico and enjoy latin cuisine! (I will be returning)

Quiet restaurant for lunch, good food, fair service and good food. Price was a bit high but not too bad.

We arrived during the lunch hour. Parking is nearly nonexistent around here. Get ready to park at least 5 blocks away. That being said, the customer service was exemplary. Drinks refilled, chips and salsa refilled, and the food was soooo delicious. This restaurant is in Dallas, so not many vegetarian options, but the few they had were glorious. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in town. It's a nice old world feel in the middle of a gentrified urban area.

This restaurant is everything I wanted and more for Mexican food. It all tasted authentic down to the red rice and the salsa. Not to mention the delicious hot chips they bring out before your meal. The service was quick and fast, the waiter kept checking on us and made sure our waters were always filled. The ambience is cute and the sense that the restaurant looks as if it's in someone's house, but it still looks luxurious. Dare I say this is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had? Genuinely cannot wait to come back!! The MOLE was everything!

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Everything from the wait time on a Sunday afternoon, the service, and the food was great! The only two things I would've changed? The camarones should have been sautéed slightly more to bring out the flavors. Also, the churros were a bit hard... making them softer would bring a better dessert. However, even with those two mishaps, this place was good! My husband raved about his food, and the kid's meal (chicken and fries) was so yummy, too! The chicken was cooked perfectly. I found myself reaching for a few bites of my son's lunch, haha! As for my plate, my only issue (again) was with the camarones-- I thought they should've been less charred and more sautéed; however, they were still very good and paired with the mango salad was a chef's kiss! I thought the prices were also fair and the portion sizes were great, too.

Hi everyone, I couple of days ago I ate at Veracruz Cafe. I guess the review is going to revolve around, The Good. The Bad and The Ugly! Let's start with The Good.... This is a quaint little place in the artsy area of town. I had smoked brisket tacos. They were excellent! Great flavor! Very tasty. I would definitely order again. They came with rice and black beans. Nothing special here and disappointingly small portions. The service was excellent! The Bad: Parking here is terrible! I had to literally park five blocks away. Plan for this. There are very few parking spaces anywhere in the area. The Ugly! The men's restroom was flooded. No apparent reason. No sign on the door. Water over an inch think on the floor. Ick!!' I would have given this place five stars if it weren't for the parking and flooded restroom. Jim

Walking in the music playing in the background is awesome. We love sitting at the bar and getting mangonadas, I always recommend this business to friends and family. Wishing I had another mangonada right at this second, my tacos came out fantastic, service is outstanding.

We arrived during opening hour & it was pretty much empty. People started coming in after 12pm. Our waiter was attentive but I felt kinda rushed bc she kept trying to take my plate thinking I was done eating. I was celebrating my birthday with my friend so we were chatting & catching up. That's the only thing I didn't like from our server. The food was delicious. What really catch my attention was the beans! They were so yummyyy! The restaurant itself is cute & a cute place to have lunch. Will definitely come back.

My Saturday was perfected once I had my meal at Veracruz! Not only is it located in such a great location, the food was splendid! My boyfriend, friend, and I were very hangry after leaving an event in the city! While I was craving soup, they wanted enchiladas! Luckily Veracruz had both! I opted for their Caldo de Marisco, which is a seafood soup, and it was AMAZING! The size was good, and while it was on the pricy side, the portion made up for it. I only give 4 stars specifically because my boyfriend ordered their Mole enchiladas, and while they were great, he only got 2, both of which were small. For the price point, he expected to have at least 3. The service was great! We were able to sit down immediately and we made it just in time for 5$ brunch mimosas! The vibe and ambiance is also great! There was plenty of sunshine and views of the street. Overall, we will be back! Especially to try one of their infamous margaritas!

Bartender made me a really good tequila mule and that was really all I needed to have a good time lol. My tacos were 7/10. Overall, I'll be back.

This is always a fun place to visit in Bishop Arts. They offer delicious food and a great bar. Their margaritas are fantastic and will definitely get you in the party mood. Additionally, the staff is very friendly and welcoming.

One quick tip for the minimalist eater: if you visit during weekend brunch, the kitchen pivots to a heavy, savory menu. You won't find simple pastries or basic toast options during these hours, as even their avocado toast is a massive, fully-loaded meal. Which is a miss for me. Regret we were so hungry I forgot to take pictures of the food! Overall, it's highly recommended for a lively atmosphere and top-tier craft lattes!

I visited today after a friend highly recommended this place as somewhere great to eat and get work…read moredone. I came in planning to order food and a golden turmeric latte and spend some time working. When I walked in, there was a messy looking podium which turned out to be an unmanned hostess stand, but there were no signs or instructions indicating whether I should wait to be seated or order at the counter. I started walking toward the counter when a tall woman quickly stomped her way to block my entrance and demanded to know what I wanted. Then asked if I was dining in or ordering to go. The way she rushed over and her tone made me feel as though I had done something wrong just by walking in. The interaction felt unnecessarily aggressive and confrontational. I was so taken aback that I just ordered a golden latte to go. I felt embarrassed by how the situation was handled, especially in front of other customers. Any excitement I had about trying their food disappeared after that moment. And I was not allowed past the podium. I was basically by the door while I waited. Unfortunately, the interaction didn't improve from there. The barista handed me my drink while keeping noticeable distance, which added to the uncomfortable feeling as if I wasn't meant to move past the entrance area. As someone new to the neighborhood, the overall experience felt very unwelcoming. I even tried to lighten the situation by mentioning that a friend had recommended the place and that I was new to the area, but I was cut off mid-sentence. The drink itself was also disappointing. Compared to golden lattes I've had elsewhere, this one was very grainy and lacked flavor. It tasted more like hot water with sediment than a well-balanced turmeric drink. Given this experience, I don't plan to return. For a small café that wasn't busy at the time, the presence of a hostess-style setup without a hostess there felt unnecessary, and the customer service did not match the welcoming atmosphere I was hoping for. This is not a high end place and I was wearing a bouse, black pants, and dress shoes. So I'm not sure what that was.

First of all, the Bishop Arts District itself is incredibly charming. Block after block of unique shops ranging from bookstores and bakeries to candle shops, candy stores, coffee spots, and little boutiques. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood I loveeeee exploring while traveling and if I lived in Dallas, I'd probably frequent this area often. As for The Wild Detectives, the concept alone immediately appealed to me...bookstore meets cafe meets bar meets restaurant. That combination will pretty much always grab my attention. I love to read, I love to eat. The space has a pretty relaxed, community oriented vibe, and during my Saturday morning/early afternoon visit, there were plenty of people working, reading, chatting, and hanging out both inside and on the patio. My one slight disappointment was that the bookstore side itself was smaller than I expected and didn't have quite as extensive a selection as I had imagined. That said, I still managed to leave with a few great additions for my ever growing TBR pile. Overall, this was a worthwhile stop and one I may revisit the next time I'm in Dallas.
