I've enjoyed ascension coffee in the past but this time was disappointing. My steak sandwich- the taste was just okay, I didn't feel like it was made with much care. You can usually tell when care and attention has been put into a dish. It was completely cold- maybe due to transport from uber eats but the sandwich itself was lackluster with barely any arugula. Not awful, just kind of sad. I ordered the caramel latte and it was so so sweet, like sugar water. I've ordered it in the past and have enjoyed it so I don't know whether today's orders were just made carelessly or if it was a busy day at the cafe. I can really only speak on my experience with trying the coffee from this restaurant, and I would say that I had a great experience. When I am looking for good coffee, I specifically try and find places that roast their own beans. Ascension Coffee offers a variety of their roasted beans that they use in their coffee which is available for purchase. The coffee itself was great and not bitter. They offered a variety of lattes, and out of the 2 tried, I enjoyed both of them. I'm sure any of the coffees you try here are gonna taste great. The weather was great so my dog and I grabbed a patio table. A server said hello, but it was actually about 20 min or longer until someone took my drink order and received water. I ordered the espresso martini. It was good, but just be aware heavy on the espresso and very strong. I had the scrambled egg & cheese sandwich with fries & a side of ranch. The sandwich was good but I felt could have had more egg inside. The fries were excellent and crispy with a great seasoning! The ranch was very bland and obviously no or light on the buttermilk. I got the poblano cream soup to go for dinner and it was awesome, especially dipping the bread that came with it. Parking is limited and mostly a valet service. Upon walking in, I was wowed. It's a really nice spot and I love the luscious greenery patio. The interior has a rustic industrial style design. I sat towards the back by the glass walls where you can look out. It's a cozy area perfect for relaxing or studying while stopping coffee. My partner and I both ordered the grilled steak sandwich. It was very good. The bread is not too much and good meat to bread ratio. I opted for half sandwich and soup and it was the perfect combo. I can't see anyone giving this place anything other than a 5 star. The staff is great, the restaurant is bustling with people but yet still roomy. The patio is encased with live greenery and music playing in the background. The selection of coffee and teas are second to none. I really enjoyed my first visit to Ascension! I came on a Friday afternoon at around 3:30, and it wasn't too busy. The space is very spacious, bright, and welcoming. It was decorated for the holidays, which made it even cuter. There were a mix of people socializing and studying/working. Indoor seating includes booths, standard seating, and couches. The booths weren't the most comfortable, but it was okay for a short stay. There is also outdoor seating available. I ordered an Iced Hibiscus Flirt tea and the Latin Chicken + Grain Bowl. First off, the bowl was INCREDIBLY GOOD. I was worried the sauce would be too spicy, but it was perfect. The tea was as expected and refreshing, but I wouldn't recommend for anyone wanting a sweeter drink. The service was really quick, but then again it wasn't that busy. Half of the parking lot is self-park and the other half is valet. There was plenty of parking available when I went. This was such a last minute find. I wish we had time to sit and enjoy the atmosphere and maybe get a bite to eat. We had checked out of our hotel and needed to find a close by coffee shop to grab something to go.This was around the corner from our hotel and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was. My SO didn't get anything, he not really a coffee drinker. I got a lavender latte, which was delicious. Unfortunately my first experience here wasn't what I'd hoped. I'll start by saying the location and ambiance is great and the space itself is wonderful, spacious and artistic. On a sunday at 10, we were seated right away but food took almost an hour to come out. For an establishment to advertise brunch I think the kitchen should be able to keep up with peak brunch demands. Our food was lukewarm and it was ok but not great; the Benedict was just on a raw piece of bread. The breakfast potatoes were undercooked and bland and lukewarm. I always love Ascension! Came here to pick up a go hi order and it was a great experience as always. My order was not only ready, but it was correct including the additional things I placed in the notes because it wasn't an option in the system! I had the migas with vegan chorizo and added tortilla. Also had the blueberry muffin which is literally my favorite muffin! It's SO good! I ended up doubling back in the afternoon with friends because it was close to where we were. I ordered the "Simple Brekky", one of the cutely named breakfasts served all day. Half of the menu is sortuv Cali healthy stuff like bowls and grains and avocado. So if you're into that you should probably give it a try. I'm more of a regular old breakfast girl. My bacon didn't look right, all thick and stiff, so I didn't have any (I'm just a skosh particular about bacon!). My thick, whole grain toast was good but arrived fairly cool so that the butter didn't melt much. The sweet potato hash browns tasted well enough but seemed pretty greasy. The eggs tasted very much of butter. I'm not sure why the taste was so strong to me since I cook my own eggs in butter every day, but it was oddly too rich..(?). Service was not great, not bad.
