I'm currently looking at Tom work and so happy I listened to the G***** reviews instead of the Yelp ones here. I was put at ease from the time I rang for an appointment. The shop manager answered so upbeat and welcoming. It was a funny and pleasant interaction us navigating our different accents but I was already sold. I'm here now and having a really good experience. They are Vietnamese and Tom's English is limited but there's a translator and I showed pics of my likes so all's well. Tom is very thorough and gentle. Immediately stopping and checking with me if I do so much as look up. He's already cleaned my cuticles and the powder is on. Now he's shaping and polishing so nicely I barely feel the tools touching my fingers. Sweet! Quality so great I'm emotional haha. I got dip powder and wasn't charged to remove my old set. Mind you, other Jersey spots quoted me $20 plus added to the service I requested! Yikes! The shop could be a tad cleaner/neater especially as I'm only their second client right now and the other Techs are just sitting around. I never leave Yelp reviews on anything but this place ruined my nails when I went in to get a simple gel removal. The guy removed the gels and the nails looked fine at first but then he took the drill and drilled just the nail. When I said all I wanted was a removal he got annoyed and said "well I need to take all the nail polish off". Then after scratching my nails up like crazy he said that he was done and I should go wash my hands. Never acknowledged how bad the nails looked. I was going there consistently for about 7 months or so. My gel nails would last 4-5 weeks initially. I'd usually get my nails done and after I'd schedule my next appointment or I'd call at a later date to schedule my follow up. During my 4th visit or so while I was waiting to be seen I decided to set my next appointment before getting my nails done and when I said 5 weeks the guy said I should do every 3 weeks and I said it my nails lasted long. Then once I sat down he began speaking in his language to my nail tech and clearly saying "gel" and "5 weeks" in between words. Their conversation went on for a while and I could tell he was angry with the tech. My nails didn't last 2 weeks that time, and even had one nail completely break which never happened before. I went back to get it fixed and again they didn't last 3 weeks. So I never returned and I ended up teaching myself how to do my own gel nails at home. I had also witness the owner be a complete jerk to other girls getting their nails done when they wanted different colors or change design but I ignored it as I liked the work the nail tech was doing on my nails. read more

A really cute local nail spot that consistently has good business. I know it's owned by a local family because whenever my friends and I go through Jersey we tend to stop by. They have multiple color selections and design options (attach my friend and I pics below). And have options to do gel UV or acrylic or dip powder (my fave personally because it lasts longer). I personally love the designs they're able to get creative with! The quality control is really good. (I think most of the "low rated" reviews was a previous employee who I do not see around anymore). But other than that, the price point is competitive for the area and doesn't break the bank. NYC would charge triple for the amount of care and effort they put into their work. I walked in as a new customer without an appointment and they were very welcoming. I had a basic pedicure and manicure by Lyly. I rarely get any treatments but had foot surgery a few months ago and am going to a wedding so I thought I'd get my nails in order. I did not get any polish so I couldn't comment on the quality. A customer who had polish came in for a fix on a nail and they were accommodating to her. I would come here again and give them a try when I want treatment and polish. read more

Just got home for gel nail appointments for myself and 2 daughters. The technician they referred to a "Leedy(?)" used a dremel on my daughter, who had no polish on her nails, and cut the cuticles on 3 fingers causing bleeding that would not stop. The technician's hands were shaking during the service until that point, and I was concerned. Was she nervous or ill and should not have been working? She stopped so my daughter could wash her hands, and the bleeding would not stop. The owner/manager wanted to put alcohol on the cuts. We denied that. We stopped the appointment. Leedy went to the back of the business and did not come out. All they did was say "sorry" and they would not charge for the appointment. We were NOT going to pay. What should have been a pleasant experience turned into a nightmare. Her fingers are throbbing and in pain. If she ends up with an infection, this review will be updated. We will never go back to this salon. We were loyal customers of Very Nails on Rt 27 in Edison until Covid hit. I'm so sad they went out of business. This was our worst nail experience ever. ok where do i begin? i came in the first time to get a pedicure. a young man did my sisters and a young woman did mine. it was very basic. we did not receive a proper massage and they only scrubbed our feet for like 2 seconds. I've been to places that charge the same amount for a basic pedi but put more time and effort into it. the only good thing was that they had a wide selection of good nail polish that has stayed on for a month now. the second time i went just a few weeks ago was for a full set of acrylics. my mom had been there just a few days before for a mani pedi and so she came in with me and after a few minutes decided to go get some groceries. i guess the people there thought she got tired of the wait which was pretty long. so they quickly got me to a chair. once i sat down i asked the guy, who i think is the owner, which color would come off more sheer from the 2 i had picked. he responded so RUDELY. he was like "i don't know what you want" i was taken aback cause it was such a simple question. then he goes "your mom goes outside?" I'm like "oh yeah she got her mani pedi done just a few days ago" and he LITERALLY says to me "i don't care. i didn't ask that" I'm like WHAT THE F***??? i was so shocked and confused i didn't even know how to properly answer back. i have never gotten such rude service. thats not all though. by now this guy was making me so nervous and i couldn't properly understand his accent so when he gave me an order i would say "sorry what?" only to be answered with an aggravated "tsk" or "ugh". i switch over to a lady to finish off the polish and she was just as rude with her demanding way of talking and the whole "tsk" "ugh" nonsense. I'm so surprised that they were so ok with giving such bad and rude service. i will never in my life go here again nor will my mom and sister. the shitty pedi was fine but the owners attitude was beyond rude. i still regret tipping as much as i did but i was so shocked and confused i just wanted to get out of there. most uncomfortable time of my life ever read more

This is the worst place I have ever been to get my nails done. First off, the person who did my mani/pedi seemed rushed and showed me attitude for no reason. I didn't say anything and did what I was told. Then, two nails on my hand were ruined by accident and I came back (with extra cash) to have them fix it. The person who I think is the owner, however, did not appreciate this. He was rude and tried to intimidate me. Like he actually got mad at me. I felt like I did something wrong. Bro I aint gonna recommend this place to anyone cause of your attitude. And it only took 5 min to fix it and the place wasn't busy. Why are you intimidating a customer? Have been going to this establishment for years now and have always had a good experience. That is until yesterday. I called at 12pm to see if i can come in for a mani and pedi and was told to come in at 4:15pm. I had an event to go to at 6pm, but I figured I'd be out in time to go home and change. Well, I arrived at 4:12pm and was told to have a seat. After 45 min I realized I was only going to have enoughh time for a mani and then waited an additional 10 minutes before I left so upset and dissapointed because I was fed up with being ignored. I ended up going to the party without a manicure, being that I didn't have time to go elsewhere, thanks to their unprofessional service. They weren't even the slightest bit apologetic, they could have cared less. There was even someone who walked in a half hour after I wase waiting who was sat and tended to. It wasn't even busy. Today I had a 12:30 pedicure appointment and I called again this morning to confirm. I got there a few minutes early and I told them I was there for my 12:30 pedicure appointment. They just said ok, nothing else. I decided to pick my color out while I waited. I waited about 10 minutes and continued to make eye contact with one of the three people wprkign there. After I sat looking annoyed they put me in the chair and my feet in the water. Another 15 minutes pass and at 12:55 I asked if they were going to honor my 12:30 appointment that I made because I was on my lunch hour. I asked the woman who put me in the pedicure chair how much longer. She responded ANOTHER 2 MORE minutes. Then she took the woman whose nails she had just finished to get her eyebrows waxed and began to wax them as I sat STILL waiting in the chair. AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went in for a Pedi-Mani on NYE 13. Pedi was first, no massage on feet and will not remove dead skin unless you pay $5 extra! Rushed job, fastest pedicure. Then I wanted a mani- trying to sell me the Gel which I said twice I did not want. Manicure was quick again no massage. My hands were still dry after manicure and I had to put my own lotion on. Fastest manicure! I went first thing in the morning so there should be no rush since they had hours before closing. They don't accept AMEX. Everyone was rude, not a relaxing experience! WASTE OF MONEY. This was my 2nd time there and the 1st time was just as bad. They charged me $5 extra on a manicure since I had a few spots of gel OPI manicure left. Once manicure was done they did not even assist me with transporting my things from her station to the drying station. Really? NEVER EVER AGAIN! After that, I looked down on my phone and he said to my friend "why are you hanging out with bin laden." Shortly after that, he asked if I was from "India town" and he was referring to Islien. Horrible- do not go there!!! This place was recommended to me by an employee of a local car dealer where my car was being serviced. I had 2 hours to kill and needed a manicure. First a girl at the front desk sat me at a table and brought a basket with color samples for me to choose from. It was a very small selection. She then brought a small bowl of acetone over and told me to put both hands in it. (I've never had gel polish removed like this before and I've had tons of gel manicures done at many different places. The usual procedure is to sand off the top layer and then top each nail with an acetone soaked cotton ball and wrap it in foil.) Then it got weird. A guy comes over to do my nails. His nails and cuticles were so bitten up and gross that it skeeved me out. He proceeded to use a nail grinder to remove the old polish. After 3 rounds of grinding and soaking my fingers in the acetone, he wiped them with a piece of wet paper towel, filed them with a black rough nail file and then applied the binder. He did one swipe with the brush down the middle of each nail. He was about to start applying the polish when I asked him to push back the cuticles first, so with an annoyed look he did it with a tool that was from a new package. He actually told me that if you push back your cuticles with your nail it will dent your nail bed. Really?? Then, without trimming the cuticles on the sides, he applied 2 coats of polish. You could still see the nail, so I asked him to apply another coat and he did it. After finishing my nails he filed the ends again with a black rough nail file and left them like that. I paid and tipped, but with regrets. Back at the dealer, I told the woman who recommended them what happened. I don't think she will be returning there. When I got home I trimmed the sides of my nails and re-filed them with a smoother file. Can't wait to go back to my local salon for a real manicure. Wish I could give 0 stars. read more

This is the worst nail salon ever! They are just out to take your money and their services are awful! They completely take advantage of their customers. I scheduled a manicure (pink and white) and pedicure and a simple $8 manicure for my daughter. First they tried to talk me into some kind of gel nail polish for my daughter for $35 (My daughter is 9 years old and does not need a $35 manicure. The $8 one is fine). Then my pedicure was supposed to be $20, but they kept complaining about how bad my feet looked (really is this appropriate to tell your customers that their feet are so dry and ask a million times when the last time I had a pedicure was). The woman talked me into their special $45 tropical manicure which was nothing special except for them putting some scented lotions on my legs and feet. I thought it was going to be something extra that they would do (it was just 3 different scented lotions- not necessary). Then when I got up from the pedicure the woman pushed me towards the waxing table and started telling me how badly my eyebrows looked, so I let her wax my eyebrows and then without asking me she started to wax my lip.... and as if that was not enough of my money for them to take the guy who did my nails tried talking me into some sort of glitter polish for an extra $5. By the time I was done they told me I owed $144! I was not happy! I went in there for what was supposed to be $70 worth of services and they doubled my bill. I've heard bad things about this place from friends but I didn't know it would actually as bad as I heard. I got acrylic tips. First off, the man completely mutilated my cuticles, he was very rough with my hands. Aside from that, everything went well until he started painting my nails. Normally, a salon would do one coat, put hand under light, do other hand, put that hand under light, work on the other hand again. The man did not put my hands under any UV light until the very end. This angered me because when he was doing designs the base color wouldn't be completely dry and it would smear into the design. So my nails got messed up quite a few times and he had to fix it, which wastes his time and my time. Just use the UV light! Because he messed up so many times, the design did not come out the way I wanted it. After my nails were "done" I got my pedicure done by a woman. I don't have many complaints about her performance besides the fact that it felt rushed. After both my hands and feet were done, NOW I go under a UV light. After 10 minutes of idling under the light I paid and left, my hands were still not completely dry for some reason, but I didn't really care because I went straight to Sally's Beauty Supplies, grabbed the polishes I needed, and went home and re-did them myself. After being a VERY loyal customer to Venus nails for the past two years as well as recommending family members and acquaintances I will no longer waste money on their services. On Saturday 8/1/15 I went to get my usual gel mani/pedi along with my mother (we go EVERY 2 weeks). I noticed the gel looked "off", almost old, but being that I had "trusted" the staff I brushed it off. Well by Wednesday the gels peeled off like stickers and were completely gone. Keep in mind gels are supposed to last a minimum of 2 weeks so for them to have peeled off like that after just 3 days is bizarre. After leaving the state on business I returned Saturday for a wedding and NEEDED to get my nails done again after just one week, remember, my gels peeled off just days after and what was suppose to last through my events and engagements did not. I go back to Venus on 8/8/2015 and inform them of what happened. I told the nail tech I did not mind paying for a regular manicure and she asked why not my usual gels. After informing her what happened I also explained that paying for a gel manicure twice in one week plus last weeks pedicure PLUS my mothers nails that I treat her too, that it was too excessive. She told me not to worry that she will do the gels for me at what she MADE me think was complimentary, especially after she said and agreed that my original gels should have never peeled off and she said "let me make it up to you" ,after she did it I gave her a large tip, thanked her, and walked out and to my car to surprisingly getting yelled at to come back in for not paying?! After coming back inside everyone is staring and the owner is yelling at the nail tech as to why I tried to skip the bill. After explaining to him everything that happened (keep in mind, he was the one who did the botched job) he made me still pay for the gel manicure. Had I kept my original plan of regular manicure I would have no problem paying the 10 dollars. What bothers me the most is that over this entire situation this place not only lost 1 loyal customer (1 year of getting a 45 dollar mani/pedi bi weekly = $1170 = tips for each trip of service) but both my sisters and mother refuse to step back in to this establishment with its beyond poor customer service . absolutely ridiculous. read more
