I don't write reviews often, in fact, this may be my 4th or 5th review ever. I'm writing this review because I was so overwhelmed with the outstanding service and professionalism I received from the Velo Bike shop, I had to write about it. I have a Stromer St1 Platinum ebike, it's a great bike, and I have an investment in this bike. The dealer where I purchased the bike went out of business, and that dealership was a 2-hour drive each way when I needed to have anything done. When I found out they were no longer in business, I did a search for the closest dealer to me; Velo Bike shop was the closest; 4 hour drive from Las Vegas. I called to find out about the services, and I met the service manager named Raul. Raul is the consummate professional. Once you talked to Raul on the phone, you know you're in good hands. So, I made the 4 hour drive to have my bike serviced, when we met in person, this guy has a smile that calms any doubts that you might have. From the time I walked in the store, the staff are fantastic, they are warm, welcoming, and have a great sense of humor. Raul, took over when I arrived, I had confidence and trust that he knew exactly what he was doing, if felt like having the engineers from Stromer personally working on my bike, that's the kind of confidence I had. Now here is where it gets better. I came back for my bike when Raul called me; the bike was in better condition than when I purchased it originally, it rode better, and Raul made sure everything in addition to the problem he repaired, was fixed and ready to go. As he said, "I don't want my customers to have to come back for little bitty things, and in my case it would have been an 8 hour round trip effort. I'm in love with my bike like a little kid. Professionalism, Competence, Kindness, and just small town personal attention are the ways I would describe my experience and results at Velo bike. Raul, you're the best, you and your team are my bike shop of choice, you made the 4-hour drive worth it. Your honesty, trust, and attention to details made all the difference. To the rest of the staff, and the owners, thank you, I did get a chance to meet you briefly, and from the brief introduction, I can tell, you know how to hire the right people. I've been going here for a few years, it's definitely a place for higher end bike parts, but I don't mind because that's usually what i'm looking for anyway. They generally have a good selection of clothes, spare parts, and almost every other add-on you would need. The staff has always been friendly with me, even though sometimes it's hard to find them because they're all in the back talking shop with all the other employees. They are also one of the few places in the area that can replace a tubular tire on my race bike in under 24 hours. Most places that I have taken my wheels to quote me a few days to even a week, and some just tell me that they don't stock tubular tires anymore. My only complaint is that I think their prices are a shade higher than other stores, and they're definitely higher than internet prices. Oh well, bike shops seem to be going the way of the dinosaur anyway. I'd rather go here than Incycle, where i get treated like an alien for some reason. read more

You know that Johnny Cash tune, One Piece at a Time, that goes, "I got it one piece at a time And it didn't cost me a dime You'll know it's me when I come through your town I'm gonna ride around in style I'm gonna drive everybody wild 'Cause I'll have the only one there is around." That's the bike I have. I pieced it together from 2002-2008 with used parts from Ebay and parts-bin leftovers. It's a miracle it works! And I have to thank Hector of Velo Pasadena for keeping it running. It's now gone in to Velo three times for complete overhauls, and despite the mileage and one crash the bike keeps running. Hector has been really good at suggesting improvements, and my bike weight is down to 15.4 lbs. Velo Pasadena owner/founder Hrach Gevrikyan also has made an adjustment or two -- he simply has the magic touch. Velo Pasadena has a tremendous lineup of new bikes for sale. I went here a few weeks ago to buy shoes. The staff was very friendly and the guy answered all my questions as I searched for a pair that I was comfortable with. The guy brought me pair after pair without any attitude until I found a pair that I thought was comfortable and with a price I was fine paying. The associate could tell I'm relatively new to the cycling scene so he was really nice about giving me tips without trying to push me to buy anything. I'll be back. read more

More road bikes than mountain bikes. The sales people can be very pushy and aggressive, so if you're just window shopping, you might want to go elsewhere. Otherwise, they all seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful if you're seriously looking to purchase. They've got some really high end stuff with big price tags, I wouldn't recommend this place too much for very entry level bikers, but if you know what you're looking for, they definitely have some quality stuff here. read more

Don't get confused about what this place is. This is NOT a hipster bike shop that puts flip-flop hubs on old Schwinn Varsitys with brightly colored knock-off Deep V rims and flopped and chopped pink painted handle bars. That's all good and fine, I respect all cyclists for the hobby we share. But there are shops that deal in that sort of thing, and there's shops that don't. This is the latter. That's not to say they won't help you, but it's not their speciality. After some initial skepticism (just because I'm buying a bike and expect a sales job), It's very evident that a culture of passion for both customer service and cycling have been instilled within each employee here. I purchased my bike here several months ago and had a great sales experience. I held off posting a review because I'm sure we all realize it's easy for a shop to turn its back on you once they have your money. Not this place. Each time I've been back the service has been fantastic, and the one time I brought the bike back to have a minor issue addressed they took it in immediately and said they'd get it taken care of. No hesitation, no line of questioning, no accusation. THEY JUST TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMER. They promote culture beyond the cash box, which is unique and valuable beyond the dollars and cents. Everyone there is courteous, and they always invite me to come along for their shop rides. (I really should go one of these days...) I'm very happy to recommend them. Bought a bike here, great experience. They let me street ride it, answered all my questions about type of bike, tires, suspension for my needs. I also love the non profit work they do for kids in need in Europe. Long story short, when I bought the bike the sales person told me the cycle purchase entitled me a lifetime discount on gear. ( I really don't remember if he said it as a ten or twenty percent discount.) I bought a light this week and a different sales person hassled me about asking for the discount and mocked me. Really! He was lucky I did not take the stinkin 8 bucks I saved and inserted it is his mouth via his rear end. You know how many bike shops and sporting stores there are in the area that are happy to see me? I was introduced to this store from a friend. I've been looking to upgrade my bike for some time now as I've progressed to needing something better than my starter equipment that I've outgrown. I went in there early in the day when it wasn't so busy. Hrach took time to measure me up, and we considered the bikes that were options in my price range. Admittedly, my price range was on the higher side, and that's why I considered VP from the beginning. Ultimately, I walked away with a beautitful bike that will last me for years to come and that matched the technical requirements that I wanted. TIP: If you're looking for a starter bike, or just to pick up some cheap components - this place might not be the store for you. This is a serious store, full of serious riders. They're not there to mess around. I didn't find any of the staff to be rude, or condescending or anything like that. So I gained 10 pounds just from being at home because of Covid so I said ok let's stop at this bike store and maybe to get some information of what kind of bike is the right fit for me so we went in and there was a line because there was Social distancing I thought no problem so before we went in an older lady worker ask what we were looking for we said a beach cruiser for her and a speed bike for me. she then ask how much I said between 4 and 6 so then we were let in then she processed to ask me if wanted a bike with and automatic Electric gears And at that point I realize she thought I wanted to spend 4K to 6k I'm like no I'm looking 4 to 6 hundred .At the moment she turned into a snobby b&&&h and told us theres nothing here for that price . ok fine but at least can you let us look around she said no since we can't afford anything we were in shock and turned around and walked out. Nobody should be treated like this when going into a store. No one should be treated like sh** and looked down upon if you want to go into this store and be treated this way and allow other people to be treated this way than be my guest allow these people to continue to look down on other who can't afford their products. I took my bike here for a tune-up and to address a few specific issues. They got the jobs done as far as I can tell, but I think they could improve on transparency. For one thing, when I showed up to request a tune-up and emphasize specific areas of concern that I wanted addressed, the bike mechanic answered me by saying they offer a $60 "basic safety check" and $120 tune-up where they "take everything apart and put it back together." Given that I just listed the specific concerns I wanted addressed and that the mechanic is supposed to be the expert, I feel that he should have responded with a suggestion for the appropriate service(s) instead of asking me which service I wanted. Since I was going through the effort to have my bike serviced and $120 wasn't a huge amount of money, I chose the $120 tune-up as insurance against possibly having my bike returned to me with some issue neglected. However, when I picked up my bike, I was informed that the internal gear hub had not been disassembled, cleaned, greased, and put back together and that it would be a separate $60 service. They really should offer a schedule of services so that customers can understand what's offered and what they're paying for. As it stands, I still don't know what the $120 tune-up entails and everything that was supposedly done to my bike. I suspect I overpaid for what services were required, but I am assigning four stars (one star deducted for opacity) simply because they fixed the brake issue that another bike shop created when they tried to fix a flat rear tire. read more

Great neighborhood bike shop, with excellent service, and a wide range of bikes. Dante and Hrach greeted me and fitted me to the just the right bike I needed to race in my upcoming ironman triathlon. Hrach and this shop is the best in the United States! I say that based on visiting bike shops all over the country every week. I travel for a living and as an avid cyclists need to contact bike shops where I go to get local riding tips, sometimes a bike to ride, and jump in on occasional group rides. I was connected with Hrach who provided me a great bike and invited me into their weekly Sunday AM 40 mile shop ride. He was so extremely gracious and so too were the great group of guys in the group. I was very welcomed, felt like family, and given great coaching tips from a professional during the group ride. Very well run shop, knowledgeable and patient staff and I like the little dog that they sometimes have in there also. They fixed up my Mavic Ksyrium wheel perfectly. When I moved here, people recommended this shop and Open Road, which is just up the street. I've been to 80 percent of the bike shops in the 626 area and have only found one other bike shop with 'good people' like I found with the guys at Velo Pasadena. No need to name any shops... good or bad, there are only so many. Back to the 'good people' I mentioned earlier... two very down to earth guys here at Velo Pasadena... Raul and Victor, they have taken good care of me for the past 8 months and I have had no complaints. Haven't written any Yelp reviews before and this will be the first just because of the exceptional service received from the very beginning has been second to none. If you want something done right the very first time, you need to talk to these guys. I have a enduro mountain bike and both Raul and Victor have always serviced my bike... they definately know their way around one and I have never had to go back a second time to fix the same issue as with other shops. I ride quite a bit (4 to 6 day/ wk) and maintenance on my bike is very common. From tubeless tires, brakes, drivetrain and everything else in between... they have fixed and maintained all my MTB needs/ issues, and also in a very timely manner to also include my brother's and friends MTB issues. If you need it done right the first time along with attention to details... Raul and Victor are the guys to see. They won't steer you wrong! And in my book, that's what I call, 'good people' with exceptional service. Raul and Victor are highly recommended by me! If they weren't, I wouldn't be writing this review. read more

Velo Pasadena is a medium sized, dark shop. Merchandises piled high and bikes everywhere, it's sometimes difficult to find what you need. You can always ask their sales people, except their sales are not always the most knowledgeable, and depending on who you get, sometimes snobby. I waltzed in one day looking for a pannier bag and a pair of dual sided pedals (something like Shimano PD-A530), the sales lady told me they really don't carry panniers and the pedal is "like, over 100 bucks". Instead, she recommended me a pair of regular double sided SPD clipless pedal and told me it's basically the same thing at 50 bucks. Err, the dual sided pedals should be $50 instead of $100, and the double side SPD is NOT the same as the dual side... Moral of the story is always do your research before shopping here, the sales can mess with you unless you know what you are looking for. On the other hand, the mechanics here are pretty good. I've taken my road bike here for service on multiple occasions (bought the bike here and got a 2 year free maintenance deal) and have no complains. The don't nickle and dime you to death here, and will do small jobs (handle tape, pedal replacement) free of additional charge if you pay for the tune up. read more

This is a solid road bike shop. They have lots of gear. Good selection of helmets. Lots of high end bikes. Colnago, DeRosa, BMC, Specialized, Felt. No Trek or Cannondale. Great local collection of vintage steel hanging in the rafters. Good selection of cycling shoes by Sidi, Specialized and Shimano. Prices on everyday items like wrap and tires are at or above retail. I think the deals can be gotten when you buy a complete bike. Like most shops they want to move product and if it's a mid year or better yet end of year model you can make a deal here. Most bike shops make their money off clothing and accessories so don't expect a lot of discount here unless you buy a bike. That's not uncommon in any bike shop. Service is fine. I personally prefer the service from the younger sales people. The older ones can be temperamental but isn't that usually true. ;) Overall if I want to check out some high end product I will stop in. read more

This place has great service and the staff is very helpful. I bring in my high-end bikes for service here and the mechanics are top-notch and friendly. The owner does come off as arrogant as he doesn't really offer anything or say hi for that matter. But that's okay. The staff makes up for that. My fiance bought her bike here and they still remember her 4 years later. The service on her bike has been excellent. Couldn't ask for more. They are pricey in terms of clothing and components but you do get great quality. I'm surprised on some of the reviews on average Joes bringing in their bikes and getting great service only because this place seems pretty high-end all around. So this is a great thing. I wrote a review a few years ago and gave VP 5 stars then. I am writing a second review and giving the staff 5 stars again because it is well deserved. I cannot count how many times I have stopped by with a question or needing a quick repair and the staff handles it right on spot. I have been going there for years so they know I ride my bike quite a bit so they ALWAYS try and resolve any issues/repairs immediately or by the end of the day. The service department staff is top notch and extremely knowledgeable. Victor has been my go to guy for years now, but I trust the entire staff. I stopped by the store after my 65 mile ride today (a Saturday) due to some chain issues and of course the shop was busy. Once again, Victor helped me out when he had a few minutes available and I was on my way. A side note: I do not live in the Pasadena area but I make the 25min drive without hesitation. I have a high end bike so I will only have VP work on my bike. Thanks again VP for the great customer service!! read more

I recently got a STROMER ST1 Bicycle, I was referred to VELO Bicycle in Pasadena and RAUL. Raul is amazing! I had an issue with bike and Charging port. Told me there were 3 things that could be causing issue with Bike -diagnosed and corrected the issue. This is not my first E Bike. SERVICE is great at Velo and Raul is awesome! My only issue is that I live in Mission Viejo and after my experience - I will only be going to Raul and Velo!!! I highly recommend this store - " Get it done correctly, The FIRST time" they know what they are doing here - looks like store has been around forever! With a High Performance E Bike its more about the support - they know Stromer inside out! read more

I've been going there for about 15 years when I had my mountain bike custom-built there. They did an amazing job, and I'm still riding it with no plans to retire that bike. It actually still looks fairly new, and it's still getting noticed on the trails for its "cool" factor. I get it regularly serviced at Velo and it's always a great job. Hrach, the owner of the place, is a great guy and a super resource for all bike-related things. I also buy all my gear there, as their selection is top-notch, the prices are competitive, and their sale rack always has unbelievable deals. Something else that can make a difference to serious bikers with appropriate-sized vehicles for the task - their parking lot is very spacious and convenient, easy to get in and out of. I've been to bike shops with teeny tiny parking lots or super-narrow driveways, and having a bike on the back of my car made navigating there a real nail-biter. It's great to be able to pull into Velo's parking lot in 2 seconds and not worry about a thing! read more

As a beginner, the thought of shopping in a high end bike shop is a daunting task. Having been to several shops in the the LA area, I've had my share of the "holier-than-thou" attitude from sales associates. I came, with my girlfriend, to Velo Pasadena just to gawk at carbon fibre bikes I knew I could never afford and maybe check out some apparel to go with my own bike. Here are some of the observations I made: I was actually greeted and acknowledged by the staff They were quick to give me assistance and answer my questions even though they probably knew I wasn't there to drop a couple grand on a bike. They actually talked to my girlfriend as well (Believe me, it's rare that bike shop sales associates even acknowledge her.) They were personable and didn't try to up-sell on stuff I didn't need. They gave me advice on what to do with my own bike, even though it's a steel Bianchi. Great staff. Friendly service. Humble and honest. Great selection. Lastly, I wanted to acknowledge Sergio. The guy spent some time with me and answered all of my questions. Having worked in Customer Service/Retail Management for almost a decade now, I know great service when I see it. The tall guy who works on Mondays was equally as helpful. It might not mean anything now, but when I finally save up enough to buy that Time NXR Instinct, I know where I'm going to get it. read more

I spent $125 to get a turn-up which included new rear gears and an overall of all my cable, but was it worth it! I don't know exactly how old my bike is because I purchased it used, but it now runs like a brand new bike. The repair people were very helpful but the owner came across as arrogant. I came here after several bad experiences with Incycle. I will go back to Velo again. read more

Velo Pasdena is one of the better bike shops I've seen in regards to the quality of bikes/frame-sets, bike gear and technical knowledge. Prices for their gear is a little higher than most, but deals can be had. My wife and I were new to the area and were looking for a LBS to service our bikes and join local rides. We're primarily recreational riders and were looking for group rides to help foster our outdoor activities. We'd spoken to the VP rep and he suggested that we join Gruppo Velo as they have rides for all levels and we would be a perfect fit into the group. Gripe: We both purchased an annual membership, but after a few weeks of nothing (ride notices) + several phone call and onsite visits the notices finally arrived. We were also promised a 1 year subscription to Peleton magazine with our new membership, but after sending several emails; nothing. We received (4) Pedal Spin passes with our membership - great spin studio! Pros: Knowledgeable and experienced bike staff and mechanics, carries higher end bikes and gear. Cons: 1) Follow-through has much to improve. 2) Came into their shop several times and was just put-off by their lax or snobbish attitude - give me a reason why I should spend my money in your establishment.... read more

I stumbled on this quite by accident... I had called to rent a bike at another shop a month ago, and they told me it was "too soon", and to call back the week I wanted the bike. So I did, and of course, they had nothing available. So I took a chance, and called VP, knowing basically nothing about it. First, over the phone, they said "no problem". I told them the size I needed, and even though I use pedals you don't find everywhere, they said "No worries. We have them", so I didn't need to schlep pedals. I arrive at the shop, and it is truly "roadie heaven"! So many beautiful bikes, I could have spent a day just looking around in there. So many bikes, so little money!! The staff could not have been nicer! Totally accommodating! Help fit me, and I had a great ride! They told me if I needed anything to give them a call and they'd be happy to ship to me. I haven't been to this bike shop in a decade. I understand that the majority of bike shops are having a hard time during Covid. I needed a couple spokes replaced on a wheel. Really pleasant and helpful place... I'm surprised by the reviews here. I bought a mountain bike from Velo about 1 year ago... they were extremely helpful and even did a price match for me. It was painfully obvious that I was sort of illiterate in bike-language, and I appreciated their help and input. They helped me find a bike that I have been extremely happy with and was within my budget. There was no sales pitch, no pressure, and no trying to upsell me (in fact, they talked me out of a more expensive bike). I have been back 3 or 4 times since... twice for tune-ups (which they did for free), once to get a tire fixed (which they did very reasonably) and today to get my bike packed up and shipped to Sun Valley, Idaho. Each time, I asked for very basic help... and I have never gotten any attitude or any arrogance. They have all been extremely helpful and friendly. I cannot say how their prices are other than for my bike... which was a bit below what it was listed for at other shops. I have never felt like I am paying too much, and their free services are... well, free!! I would buy another bike from them for sure... and I drive about 35 minutes whenever I need anything bike related because I know they will help out. To people who have not been there... I'd say check it out. To the other reviewers here, I'd say maybe give it another shot... read more
