I ordered a bike online from Around the Cycle, but fortunately right before shipping I realized I had test ridden a different size (so I had ordered the wrong bike). They had already packed the bike and grabbed it just before UPS picked it up and were very nice about the cancelling the sale. They charged a nominal restocking fee (someone had spent a couple hours checking the bike and packing it up), but it was reasonable. They were very nice about the whole thing. read more

After riding a 20 year old bike with 26 inch wheels, I needed to upgrade to a modern frame with larger wheels. Since I have short legs, the new bike would need shorter pedals and a dropper post. Modern bikes can be difficult to understand since one needs to consider many variables when upgrading like chain ring offsets, to boost or not to boost, bottom bracket compatibility, spindles and chain ring mounts, etc. Consequently, one needs a bike shop that has personnel that knows what they are doing. Due to Google shadow-banning posts. I have to add it here as well. This updated review was originally done three weeks ago. Super friendly people and easy to get appointments. They were to able fix my front and rear derailleur issues on the spot. Update: 4/24/24 came in for a rear derailleur issue and cleat adjustment. I left thinking the derailleur was done. It was not and I was told via text to just back in and fix it after I left a voicemail. I don't think so. Also, Both brake rotors rub more now after the bike fitter said he had to bend the rotors a bit, but at least he replaced my worn chain. read more

A few weeks ago, I stopped by on a rainy Saturday to check out the store. Alex showed me around the store a bit and talked bikes for some time. It was a nice way to start off the visit for sure. After seeing some bikes and talking shop, I wound up heading out to do a bit more research. My next visit there, I was able to test ride a couple of bikes. I was torn between a Salsa Journeyer (drop bar) and a Surly Bridge Club. I am glad I has the opportunity to ride both, as the Surly wound up being a better fit. I still have a desire for a drop bar bike tough. Ryan wound up being the main person I dealt with that day. Despite a couple of kids running around, he was always eager to answer my questions and set me up on the test bikes. Again, like Alex, he was pleasant to talk to and provided a lot of information on the different bikes. I picked out the Surly I wanted to buy and was told they would find some to build it up, as it was a different size than I tested. I came back a few days later and Clay helped me then. I test rode the bike and picked out a few accessories. Pedals, grips and new handlebars. I spent a while talking to Clay about everything, as I was beat afterwards. Point being, they're committed to ensuring you get what you want. Zero pressure to buy anything either. Every trip has been enjoyable, including a recent quick look-over of the bike. All in all, I am glad I happened to check this place out. It is in a quiet neighborhood too, which makes test rides better. The bike for my daughter was especially a good deal because there are lots of customers features that we would not have been able to afford had we got a new bike. This is a very unique business compared to your usual bike shop. Basically - you can buy and sell used (and new) bikes and bike gear. You can give it to them and they will sell it for you or if you're like me an looking for a deal can get some discounts on used gear. I've sold and bought tons of stuff on craigslist and this is similar except it is safer than meeting with strangers and the equipment has been looked over so there will be less of a surprise factor that something won't work. Additionally - you can pay cash or credit here (whereas craigslist is generally cash only). I went in here because I broke some spoke on a wheelset and wanted to buy a replacement. I got a good pair of Stan's wheels for $220 which were a whole 1 pound lighter than my old pair. I was very happy. They have service option too so they do all kinds of bike work. In my case they swapped over my cassette and discs from my old wheels to the new ones. This a great shop and I highly recommend it. read more

When it c omes to bicycles, I can be one of those pain-in-the-ass customers because my sheer enthusiasm (aka rush) and sensitivity (aka being discerning and picky) can be a unique challenge for a shop owner. Enter Ryan and his team. Ryan is a calm and collected Buddha - the perfect foil to any of the wild convulsions I went through as I built my dream bike. And he has selected an entire staff who are patient (and dare I say loving) like he is. If Ryan was a doctor, I would join his practice. I found my dream frame on Ebay and saw that it was being sold by Around The Cycle so I contacted them directly. How had I not heard about this place? But here's where the true magic started. Ryan had thoughtfully squirreled away many of the parts that are sold out worldwide. Kinda like Tim Cook of Apple- somehow the supply chain issue hasn't affected Apple and I guess Ryan is the Tim Cook of bike shops. So to my friends' amazement, some of who've been waiting to build their bikes for months, Around The Cycle helped me build mine in a few days. The team was so helpful and I hate to bore you with the details but I was blown away by how well the shop runs, how clean the service area is, and how helpful and knowledgable everyone is. And yes, I got a good deal, but that was almost secondary to the vast knowledge transfer and resourcefulness that the group applied to my build and how kindly I was treated. This was one of the best experiences for repairing bicycles. My daughter and son's bikes have not been used for a while and needed some air in the tires. If you're looking for a bike shop I can't recommend them highly enough. There's no snobbery, upselling, or attitude. It's simply a group of friendly folks who love riding bikes. They carry used and new bikes and will sell your used stuff for you too. A few years ago I got back into riding and was looking to sell my old racing bike and wheelset so I could put it towards something more comfortable. Their consignment policies are straightforward and fair. Ryan was incredibly helpful in finding a bike that met the specs I wanted and even steered me towards a bike that was a little cheaper but a better value. I've since upgraded the groupset and they were incredibly helpful there as well, especially since it was during the pandemic when parts were scarce.
