Excellent and friendly customer service, and the staff and owners are very knowledgeable. I was long overdue for a tuneup, and brought my not-so-new road bike in a month ago. They did a great job, and also properly identified issues with the chain and crankset. I had them replace the chain, but waited to have the work done on the crankset. I came back this week to have the crankset replaced in addition to a new stem, and my bike operates much much better now. They had to remove my cycling computer and front light to change out the stem, and reattached them with black zip ties to match my color scheme (I previously had clashing white ones on which was all that I had). They insisted on taking my bike out to my car for me, and treated me as if I had the latest and greatest $10k+ bike. Great experience overall, and worth the drive for me to go to their shop. read more

There are a lot os bike shops in Pasadena. I really like Velo. They are totally involved in the bike scene, have great equipment for sale, and the know how to help you get the best out of it. Had a really nice experience. I have a cheap $40 bike I got from Craigslist to take to Burning Man. I needed it fixed up to be rideable, but because the plan was to take it into a bed of alkaline dust, it was probably going to get destroyed. I was expecting to be treated like I was seriously out of place (because really, I was), but they took me just as seriously as I imagine they would treat any regular customer who is big into biking. I joked about my bike being out of place and the guy who helped me was like, "What do you mean? This is a bike place! You're in the right place!" I felt really out of place at Pasadena Cyclery, but this place made me feel like I wasn't as much of a newb as I really am. They told me exactly how to put the rack I bought on the bike, and told me not to bother paying them the labor to do it, because it was something I could do myself. I bought new grips and they even put them on for me! I'll definitely be back! read more

Great shop these guys treat you like family! I have my eye on two bicycles I was hoping to end up with one for my b day this week however due to a health issue it's not going to happen just yet. I brought in my back wheel on a Saturday they trued it while I waited!!! My rear Mavic with Dura ace hub never felt that good!!!! I will bring them my Trek to do a full service on while I am resting. Absolutely wonderful customer service and great atmosphere. Michael let me try out several bikes and proactively offered to customize one bike on the spot to see if the bike would work for me that way. (It totally did and I'm jazzed). In the meantime, hearing the other employees talk shop with other bike enthusiasts was really great. I'm not a super knowledgeable or passionate biker, but I really wanted to find a bike I loved. Got my teenage kid a bike at Velo for his birthday. It was expensive for us but totally worth it; I felt like I was getting the best quality and service. I bring in his bike once in awhile and the staff there are wonderful to me. When I go into other bike shops, the staff often don't give me the time of day because I'm obviously not a biker. Living in Glendale CA it is surprisingly challenging to find a descent bike shop - which is really a shame. We loved having the proximity of Velo Studio in Attwater but sadly they needed to consolidate to their main store in Pasadena (Velo Pasadena). We now drive the added miles, past a few other bike shops - just so we can continue our business with the wonderful awesome folks of Velo Pasadena...from Steve and Matt, to Hrach, and Vic and Raul and the entire service team (I'm embarrassed to be blanking on names right now because they all call us by name - such a friendly shop!). We always get great great service - prompt and friendly - great sales - with excellent variety and products. We've been riding bikes for over 30 years - we ride close to 10K miles/year each (me and my wife each)...so yes, we are very dependent on excellent service and products. These guys rescued my $4000 bike. I built a really sweet Time road bike from parts and had it all put together by a guy who used to wrench for a national chain. I rode it for 2 years and a couple thousand miles without major troubles until...trouble. FUBAR-level trouble. The weekend after an uneventful metric century, I was a block from home when the chain came off, wrapped around the cassette, and ripped the front derailleur hanger out of the frame. I was happy to get off the bike without injury. I carried it home. After calling around to locate a Time dealer, I got hold of Hrach, the owner of Velo Pasadena. He was a little dubious at first but after looking at emailed photos of the frame, he said he could fix it. Clearly this was a better alternative than sending the frame to France and hoping they would honor the warranty. Hrach and Hector the mechanic did a fine job of basically building me a new bike for the cost of a few parts and some labor. The repair of the scariest problem (the one I thought would doom the frame) was not at all expensive. These are conscientious folks and they know their stuff. Their collection of high-end bikes, frames, parts, apparel and other stuff is drool-worthy indeed. Maybe next time. I'm just thankful to have found some guys that could, and would, pimp my ride. Love this shop! It has anything and everything you could ask for in gear and in models! Plus, the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful! Given my student budget, the main reason for patronage is their service department where Hector Cabrera miraculously breathes new life into my much used and abused two-wheeler. (It's like witnessing Jesus resurrecting Lazarus from the grave.) On top of his magical maintenance skills, Hector provides excellent customer service with his friendly, easy-going personality. Bike Shop that knows what their doing.....Took my Old Bike and wanted to transfer the Parts to a New Bike Frame, was skeptical at first as some of the Parts need instructions from Manufacturer but Victor the Master Mechanic Finished my Dream Bike in a Day....Did a Bike Fit with Scott and was able to finish Bike Fit that same day, adjusted the New Bike to my liking....They had to Cut the Seat Post a couple of times which cost me some money which I thought was part of the Bike Fit to adjust the bike but oh well...Also purchased some Bike apparel here, kind of Pricey but they have some discounts on the Sales Rack...They also have some Sexy Bikes here like De Rosa, Felt and Time...If you're a serious Cyclist who wants to service your Bike or want to purchase new Bike, this is a Place to go read more

Avoid these guys - Don't go there with any high end bikes especially mountain bikes for repair, they are clueless.. They promised me two days turnaround on a frame replacement, it took them over two weeks and many phone calls, the replacement frame needed a new front derailleur and double ring crankset; they sold me the wrong crankset replacement part for $350 -- we had discussed the fact that I would be going from a triple ring to a double ring and lose by largest ring, once I eventually got my bike back after spending $650 with them in total, and tried to ride the bike in the mountain I realized it was very hard to climb, and that's when I realized they had sold me the wrong crankset and actually what I had received had the smallest ring removed and not the largest, after calling them they tried to blame me for picking that part, which I never picked but they recommended, but said they will replace it with a new crankset at 30 discount on part and no labor, I said fine since I had no choice, come to find out the part was more expensive than the parts being sold online actually even with their claim of 30% discount so that was a lie , also they had kept my old bike parts and claimed they didn't know how to contact me to return the old parts, but when I went in to get my bike back with the replacement crank they showed me all the information from the time I took the bike in the first time - so another lie about keeping my old parts -- overall unqualified mechanics when it comes to high end mountain bikes, rude service manager Raul said they don't care about online reviews -- so save yourself the disappointment and go to another bike shop -- there are others in Pasadena that know what they are doing actually ... In inspecting my old parts that they returned they stole my XTR front derailleur and put in a cheap SRAM derailleur from someone else's bike -- more reason to avoid these people read more

I like this place. A lot. I had absolutely no idea about anything mtn. bike-related as far as components, etc. But I did my research before going in and knew I wanted a Specialized Rockhopper. I called beforehand to find out if they had any and it turned out they had an '09 which was exactly what I was looking for! The guy who helped me out was super nice and knowledgeable; he explained everything and didn't make me feel foolish in any way. They also have a nice back lot to test drive the bikes. The bike was on sale since it was an '09 and when I expressed interest in a hitch bike rack, he offered to give me 15% off of it + 15% off of any other accessories! Not to mention the FREE 2 years worth of tuning I get just for buying the bike there. Really good deal, really knowledgeable and NICE workers, and the store had a great layout too. I drove 2 hours to visit this shop and I'm Glad I did. I was in the market for my second Hybrid/Fitness type bike. My current one was tired and I've been mulling over several different makes and models based on my budget. I basically based my search on how well equipped my next bike would be. I narrowed my choices down to 2 bikes. Those were the BMC Alpenchallenge AC01 and the Giant Fastroad Comax 2. I visited a local bike shop last week to check out the Giant. While, this particular bike looked awesome and felt great, I never was offered a road test. So without pulling the trigger on the first bike I saw, I decided to give the BMC a look. I visited their website and I found there were several retailers pretty close to me location-wise, as well as ones that were just a tad further. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I know what I want to see or buy something, I want to see it in person. Nothing is more discouraging than finding out what you want is NOT "in stock". After looking up the different retailers and visiting their respective sites, I came across Velo Pasadena. I looked up online at their site and found out they had this particular bike in stock. So I called them to confirmed that this bike was there, physically in stock. They confirmed it and then, I made the 2 hour trek south. Upon entering Velo, I was greeted almost instantly by Dante. I had informed him I was looking for the aforementioned BMC. He promptly retrieved it and I got to finally place my hands on it. He offered me to ride it. Which I happily obliged. After the ride, I knew I had to have this bike. So, the transaction was made and finalized. Velo should be recognized for their whole operation and the associates that help promote it. I work in a highly demanding service oriented field and I should give credit where it is rightfully due. Dante gets high remarks for his friendliness, knowledge of the product, and his prompt service. In addition to him, the rest of the staff were also knowledgeable and friendly. Not once did I feel intimidated by them or was rushed into buying something. They were never intrusive and allowed us to check things out on our terms. Both bikes I looked at were identical in price points. In fact, I could have purchased the Giant for 20% off the msrp. However, the buck stops at Velo. I decided to have Velo earn my business based on their appreciation of their guests. The same cannot be said about the other shops. I won't name them, but it's their lack of attentiveness and product availability that made me sway otherwise. I felt comfortable with Velo throughout the entire process. In my opinion, Velo Pasadena had a great selection of product across the board. Their showroom is clean and organized. Whether you're looking for a mountain bike or road bike, these guys have will more than likely have it. In addition to that, their website is accurate. Whatever information I needed in regards to a product, it was made available in all aspects by Velo. Ultimately, this was the deciding factor where I purchased my bike. At the end of the day, you can buy a bike closer to home and for less money. However, that doesn't get guarantee you excellent service. Thank you for this awesome bike and service. I make the 15 mile drive to Velo because I know they will provide me with very good service. I have been a customer for over 10 years. I have tried other shops in my area but not the same service. This time around I actually mistakenly went to another shop nearby Velo (I hadn't been to Velo in awhile) this other place wanted to keep the bike two days to change the front brake cable...I realized I'd taken to the wrong shop and drove onto Velo...The service mechanic Victor at Velo took the bike and had the job done in about ten minutes PLUS he tightened the screws on my seat and adjusted the spokes...That is very good service! Also, Velo's price for the brake cable install was less than quoted by the other shop that wanted to keep the bike for 2 days. I own an "all Campy" bike that I have been the proud owner of since the 1970s--I only want the best for my bike and that is why i trust it to Velo. read more

In the midst of the first 25 miles of a 75 mile ride from LA to Newport Beach, my front derailleur (Ultegra Di2) stopped working. Scrambling, we stumbled upon Velo Pasadena, and Raul the service manager. He took the time to carefully and properly diagnose the problem, using the complete Shimano diagnostics. He was able to fix it on the spot and went out of his way to make sure that the set-up was as good as could be when we left. He also took great pains to be sure we weren't buying unnecessary parts - not just throwing things in to see what worked but, rather, systematically walking through and pinpointing the problem. Definitely well worth the $25 diagnostic fee for the about 45 minutes of careful testing. All of this done after we just walked in off the street and Raul set aside less pressing work to attend to my bike so my wife and I could get back on our way. Throughout the process, he was friendly and informative, showing me what the diagnostics were showing and what he was doing to be sure to pinpoint and fix the problem without just selling me a bunch of expensive pieces. The entire mechanic staff is apparently well trained, including taking yearly update seminars from Shimano at the shop. But they are not just wedded to Shimano - an awful lot of SRAM is sold and serviced there too. In the meantime, while Raul worked away, sales rep Stephen was very helpful with making two sales, including one for a friend from whom he took the payment and shipping information over the phone. Road bikes range from several hundred dollars to many thousands - and we witnessed them going out of their way to help customers in both ends of that spectrum. Overall, a great experience and I would (and will) definitely return. read more

I called shop because I had broken some spokes in my enve wheel.I told them the spoke size.They said they had them.I go to shop they say wheel will be ready tomorrow.1 week later they say my wheel is ready.I pick up wheel go home,go to put wheel on bike when I see that 3 of the 8 spokes they replaced are wrong length.called shop left a message explaining the problem.No one returned my call.Went to shop showed them the wheel .They fixed it but could not explain the screw up or why the spokes they sold went from $2 dollars to $4 dollars per spoke or why if they had the spokes in stock and the wheel would be ready in 1 day ,it turned into a week. Great selection of bikes and accessories -- but what really sets them apart is the people...Matt, Hrach and the rest of the crew - super helpful and really know what they are doing...the service department has been the best! I recently took one of my bikes in -- desperately in need of help with a drive train noise issue that 2 other shops couldn't get fixed...Velo quickly and correctly diagnosed and fixed the problem...and because I was leaving town for an event - they happily fast tracked the whole process and got me back on the road quickly. These guys wanted $100 for a repair estimate! I told them that I was interested in getting the estimate because I needed it for the insurance company the following morning and that I would leave the bike with them and have them repair the bike after I returned from the insurance company the following day. To make a long story short....the guy working there was lacking any sense of customer service....it was like, he was doing me a favor for letting me spend money in his shop! I don't know how they stay in business......I really don't. Needless to say I took it to a real bike shop with excellent customer service who also provided me with..you guessed it...a free estimate! read more

A chance email encounter with info@velopasadena.com turned to an awesome 20 person group ride with Velo Pasadena. Here's the back story. I've been living in Nor Cal (The Bay Area) the last 30+ years. My wife and I moved-up from SoCal (Hollywood/Glendale area). The last 3 years, I've been into mad cycling (defined as riding takes over your life and becomes a part time job). So now, wherever I go, I take my bike with me so I can ride. The last couple of years, I'd bring my bike down to LA with me and with the help from Strava, I'd putz around. Ride the LA River Bike Path. In and around Griffith Park. Even came across Vista Del Val - a beautiful ride with super crappy pavement). In a word, riding in So Cal has been hit and miss for me and I'd always be wondering "where are the cyclists at?". On this trip, I decided to climb Mt. Wilson and while reading-up on it, I happened to come across Velo Pasadena (VP) and I emailed contact-us asking if there were any group ride in the area. I immediately got a response from VP. The response mentioned the Sat Descanso Garden ride and the Sun VP ride. I rode Mt. Wilson Sat and decided to do the VP Sunday ride at 7:30 in back of the store. After a slow start Sunday morning, I dragged my *ss out of bed, packed up my bike and drove over. And wow. A great bunch of guys. A great 40 mile fast ride. Matthew from the VP led the ride and did an awesome job. I got to meet a bunch of new people. I now have a great ride to look forward to when in So Cal and (more importantly), I know a place that works on Colnago's just in case. Velo Pasadena is simply the best bike shop. When I moved to LA a year ago I walked in many shops that were not helpful, and did not have a great selection. Velo is the best of both worlds for all cyclists. When you walk in you are overwhelmed with the inventory, a great problem to have. I know how to tune a bike fairly well but had a heck of a time tuning a front derailleur on a new Felt bike I purchased from another authorized Felt dealer. Despite being very busy and too full to store another bike for repair, Tony in the repair department was willing to take a look at my bike and get me on my way. Thirty minutes later, Tony told me that my rear derailleur tuning was fine and the reason why the front derailleur couldn't be tuned was because the brazon holding the derailleur was too straight. He used, "a mechanic's trick" to fix it. He basically re-formed the brazon so that the derailleur cage could be parallel with the chain ring. That is something I couldn't have known to do or attempt to do for fear of voiding the warranty. Tony took the time to check the brakes and make a small adjustment. A simple handshake was all they charged. With other bike shops much closer to my house, I think this will be my LBS. Thank you! read more

Hands down the best customer service experience I have ever had! I drove over 2 hours to go to this shop to pick up a bike part that I couldn't find anywhere else. I rolled my bike back to the service area and was taken care of immediately. The owner, Hratch, took one look at my bike and immediately knew that my bike wasn't fitting me the way it should (I have had multiple fittings at other shops). He told me that if I didn't mind staying for a while he would like to make some changes to my bike. He also assured me that if I wasn't 100% happy with it after the changes were made, he would put it all back the way it was before at no charge. I agreed to give it a shot, and Hrash and Victor immediately went to work on it. These guys spent a couple of hours with me - putting me on a trainer, watching me ride back and forth on the street, taking before and after photos for me to see the difference in my riding position. After they finished working on my bike, they let me know that if I was unhappy with anything, or if something didn't feel right to come back and it would be taken care of. They even took my bike out to my car to load it up for me. 1 day later - first ride on my bike - AMAZING!!!!!!! I feel like I have a brand new bike - can't believe the difference!
