Super incredible vegan/vegetarian diner! I'm vegan and this is definitely a new go to spot for me in Cambridge. I came here with a friend around 5pm on a Saturday night, and we were able to get seats at the counter immediately. All the staff and waiters were super welcoming and friendly. The interior is clean and inviting, and the whole place gives off Pizza Planet from Toy Story vibes. I had the vegan reuben, which was absolutely delicious. I tried the cheese and seitan beef separately and individually they were honestly a little odd, but the sandwich altogether was amazing. The slaw on the side was nice and tangy as well. Prices are not too high for the amount of food. Highly recommend! read more

The restaurant has a really cool diner vibe that's really inviting. The location is in a desirable area around Central Square, street parking is limited. The staff is really friendly and the menu was very creative. The Mac N Stack was pretty good with the seitan chicken and tempah bacon. It didn't have the same texture or taste of the meats it aimed to replicate and should be seen as a different type of protein. One of my favorite restaurants in the state since moving here ~15 years ago and the one I've probably been to the most, far and away. All the incredible diner food you could want veganized: burgers, pastas, sandwiches, mozz sticks, salads, soups, gyro, chopped cheese, poutine, frappes, desserts -- you name it, they probably have it. The menu is vast and always difficult to choose from (in a good way), and then you throw the blue plates on top of that...you come back time and time again to eat through the menu. I missed Veggie Galaxy my first visit to Boston, however, I made up for it my second visit. The menu is amazing, the food is so good, and the dessert...I should have gotten two. A friend an I shared the buffalo potato skins, mac&cheese, went back for a breakfast burrito and dessert and thought about going back one more time. If you have a chance, the peanut butter pie was to die for. So good. Loved the diner feel and fun decor. Make this place a priority for sure! read more

Though the restaurant looks like it would be a vegan haven, the food was pretty lackluster. I don't think there was one single item that impressed. For example, in the nachos, I didn't enjoy the sour cream component which tasted too garlicky and flavored for me. The burger and "Steak" & Cheese Sub were nothing too exciting, as well as the Boston Cream Pie which tasted like a frozen stored dessert. I even was holding out hope for the onion rings that can come as a side but they weren't cooked well either and the onion flavor itself didn't come through. I expect more from this kind of restaurant -- though everything was eatable and not necessarily horrible, still the food was not thoroughly enjoyable. I wonder if it was because they're so busy that they have to focus on quantity over quality, especially when we came around dinner time. Vegan and vegetarian diner with plenty of options if you prefer whole food or mock meats. I was here a few years ago and had a veggie burger that wasn't particularly memorable but recently came back and tried the cauliflower po boy. Fries that came with the sandwich were delicious and fresh, but I didn't love the cornmeal batter on the cauliflower. Maybe it was the cornmeal or the way they were cooked but the batter kept sticking to my teeth similar to how air fried or baked foods get instead of a deep fry crunch. I also wished there were some pickles or fresh component that would cut through all the carbs. Nonetheless I had a positive experience and will definitely be back sooner than last time! read more

Visiting Boston, we went to Veggie Galaxy to get some lunch and see Cambridge. The inside is a nice, retro diner with your red stools and 50's decor. The menu is substantive to the point that it can be overwhelming since normally you're used to picking between 1-2 options on the menu. Service was fine on a busy Sunday. I ordered the chopped cheese sandwich, and she had the club sandwich. 10/10 would recommend. I would give this a 4.8/5.0. The fries are standard. read more

This was a nice place to get brunch with friends. Their menu prices are not bad and not everything is vegan so you can still get eggs for brunch. Even so, I still appreciate their vegetarian take on club sandwich, which used tofu and beans. This place is also good to take people who are vegetarian because they have a wide selection of vegetarian options. They seemed to be busy on the day we went, so service was a bit slow, but they made sure to check on us a few times during the meal to see if we needed anything. Also as an fyi: They don't seat you unless your entire group is here so you won't be able to "save a table" for any latecomers. I also love the restaraunt's vibe. My husband and I were here for lunch the other day. Very busy place with lots of customers (old and new). Seems like a local hot spot for really good diner style food! So nice to see an establishment that is vegetarian friendly be bustling and successful. We arrived at around 11:45 AM and there was about a 30 min wait. The bar was packed, the tables were all filled, the kitchen was busy. We were able to glance at the menu while waiting for our table. Once our table was ready we ordered the following items: Crispy Brussels Sprouts - crisped brussels sprouts with a Sriracha agave glaze and ranch dressing drizzle (I had my ranch dressing on the side). I also ordered a Side of Baked Tofu and Side of Tofu-Scramble (for protein). I enjoyed my brussels but they were a little too greasy for me to finish. Lots of flavor though! My husband ordered the Chick'n & Waffles. It included their house-made fried seitan chick'n on a waffle served with real maple syrup and southern gravy. He had the southern gravy on the side. He truly enjoyed his meal, very fulfilling and delicious! Overall - a good experience. Lots of people seem to enjoy it here and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family! Can understand why this place is so busy- great food! Next time - will have to try their desserts. Seeing the cakes and smoothies and shakes going by us made us want to try it the next time! Ok, it pains me to write this because I was so excited to try out Veggie Galaxy, but my insides are forcing my hand. We got the Cajun cauliflower, buffalo wings, brussels sprouts, and I got the vegan Big Mac Mac and cheese and a side of Cole slaw. The others at our table got the Reuben, chopped cheese and the galaxy burger. Everyone thought their food was pretty good, and frankly I thought my dish tasted good as well but it very quickly set off alarm bells in my stomach (you know the rest) which lasted for several DAYS. I thought it was just me but unfortunately others in my party said the same happened to them after as well. So, while I am all for a vegetarian/vegan hotspot and love supporting local businesses, unfortunately Veggie Galaxy wasn't for me. read more

Classic American diner-style food with retro vibes, and everything is vegetarian! I was impressed by the large menu with a variety of dishes that can be made vegan, and I was even more impressed by the food. I ordered the southwestern breakfast burrito and my partner ordered the great galaxy breakfast sandwich. The seitan on the burrito was incredible - perfectly seasoned and super delicious! I loved the guac and pickled jalapeños in the burrito, and the homefries were crisp and had a nice rosemary flavor. The great galaxy breakfast sandwich was great as well; I loved the flavor of the garlic mayo. The hostess and the servers were very friendly, and they were knowledgeable about the variety's menu options. I walked past this restaurant on Mass. Ave for a couple years and never thought to go in...until now. And now I realize what've I've been missing out on. Veggie galaxy has lots of cool vegetarian and vegan twists on entrees that typically have meat in them (poutine, chicken and waffles, Big Mac Mac and cheese, etc.) They can also make items vegan by substituting the dairy products out with non-dairy alternatives. We ordered poutine for the table, which was warm and cheesy. My only critique is that the fries were on the soggier side- I would've preferred a crispier bite. The Brussels Sprouts were HEAVENLY! Some of the best Brussels I've had, with no hints of bitterness, crispy, and topped off with a slightly sweet and tangy sauce. Gotta try this when visiting! For my main dish, I got the Big Mac Mac and cheese. I thought it could use a bit more salt and spice, but still comforting nonetheless. Veggie Galaxy has been a destination eatery for my family because of milk, egg and peanut allergies.  They seemed to have good practices for keeping vegan prep separate from milk and egg.  And they only had a few desserts with peanut (made elsewhere) and kept them separate.   But on our visit today we learned that their new menu has peanuts "on the line".  When we told the host about our food allergy, we were denied service - not that we would would risk it anyway.  The host said that they had a recent incident of a patron getting sick (no details provided but the context implied it was a food allergy reaction from cross contamination from the peanuts). Update: The manager responded to say they removed peanuts "from the line" two weeks ago (except for desserts as noted earlier). It sounds like the staff has not been updated. I have updated the rating based on this new info. Still sad we were turned away due to this misinformation. But hoping we can visit again and eat safely. read more

My breakfast was outstanding- perfect scrambled eggs, great hash browns and toast. A simple order, but it was delicious. The restaurant is clean, including the bathroom. There is a huge list of vegetarian and vegan items, though I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, so I cannot comment except to say you will not lack for choices. My wife, best, friend, and I arrived into Logan late on July 1st and arrived at our hotel around the corner, Le Meridian, about an hour before they closed, so we came and in and they gladly seated us. Our server was amazing and very friendly. The ambiance is of a 20th century American Diner, which is unique since the place is all vegetarian. My wife and I shared the Mac 'N Stack and the Harlem Style Chopped Beef Hero with two boozy shakes which were wonderful and the portions were large. Now I'm no vegetarian, but Veggie Galaxy came very close to converting me! A regular visitor to Cambridge, MA, I couldn't wait to try this new restaurant that I've never been to before. Right in the heart of the Square, I enjoyed the outdoor patio with its relaxed yet upbeat city vibe. I didn't actually go inside the restaurant, but from pictures it looks like it gives you a retro diner feel. Curious about the vegan options, I ordered the Vegan Mac & Cheese Bites and Vegan Caesar Salad. I've never had vegan cheese before, but was pleasantly surprised by the taste, texture and flavor of each dish. The food was hot, fresh, hearty, and served as the perfect lunch (I even had leftovers!). I paired my plates with a seasonal peach sangria and Bantam cider (which, I also think was seasonal). Both drinks we crisp, light, and refreshing. All in all, my experience at Veggie Galaxy was pleasant, enjoyable, and great for a quick bite. Do they have the healthiest options? Not exactly. But it's solid and flavorful. The next time I'm in town, I, as a non-vegetarian, will definitely be back to try out more of the vegetarian and vegan options. read more

I had to update my review after trying different things on the menu and deciding on a new favorite, the vegan BLT! The sauce was so delicious and the bacon was perfect texture. I added avocado and highly recommend the sourdough. The fries were great and I loved the house-made lemonade. It pains me to write this, but I recently ordered the Oreo cheesecake for my birthday and it wasn't very good. I had been really excited about it, but it was just... off. There was a palpable silence in the room when everybody took their first bite, and no one finished their portion of cake. I've had vegan cheesecake from now-closed places and even the supermarket freezer section that were incredible and nearly indistinguishable from the real thing, packed with flavor and the right texture. This one didn't make the cut. I actually tried in vain to enjoy it for the next few days, but it never got any better. The decoration was fantastic, however. There are so few options for vegan cakes in eastern Massachusetts, especially with the place in Salem closing in a few weeks. I hope the bakery at Veggie Galaxy eventually makes some changes, but I'll be cautious for the next few years. It was disappointing to present this to my non-vegan family and friends, as people already have such (wrongfully) low expectations of vegan baking. read more

i am always willing to make the trek out to cambridge from boston to visit veggie galaxy! what i really loved about this place is its catering to so many diets and dietary restrictions. while veggie galaxy's food is always a hit, i have two observations from my last visit: as of august 2024, veggie galaxy has updated their classic one-sheet menu to a booklet menu style with new food options. while i have a preference for just having to flip the menu once to see all my options, i am happy to see the menu expansion. im not so thrilled of the inclusion of nuts in many of the new menu items (namely in the breakfast section). previously, i was told the kitchen was nut-free but the bakery section was not. now it may be the kitchen as well. another menu note -- the drink menus at the beginning of the menu booklet say "everything is plant based unless noted otherwise", but the next few pages say "everything can be made plant based, just ask!" with the exact same logo/location. i was initially confused since i didn't realize the text there in the corner changed across the pages, but it's an important distinction to make if you're vegan or have dietary restrictions! read more

My husband and I have been vegan for 8 years and this was our first time at veggie galaxy. He ordered the breakfast sandwich and a side of home fries. The potatoes were bland and had zero color. Almost like they were boiled. I ordered the vegan eggs Benny and although I love yo-egg, the other elements weren't great. The sauce was watery and the English muffin was thick and not toasted. Dry, bland bread. My hash browns were white and bland. No color, no flavor. I don't think they like giving food color haha. White, bland potatoes and white, bland bread. The food service was good, although when I asked for coffee, the waitress brought me a cup of cold coffee; I guess she didn't check it first. I ate inside, which is reminiscent of an old-style diner. I had the Galaxy burger, which is made from beets and other ingredients. I had it with cole slaw, as I always am trying to recreate my high school experience of Big Boy burgers in Indiana on a band trip, which basically had cole slaw on them and were awesome. This burger with cole slaw on it was excellent. Also, as a nice touch, the burger comes with a spring greens salad, which I didn't realize from the menu. One complaint here is that the burger, as some veggie burgers are, was incredibly messy as it began to fall apart. The bun was way too soft to deal with the deconstruction of the burger. They should serve it on a swiss roll or similar more sturdy bun. Another minor complaint: I asked for pickles, and that was $2 extra, which I wasn't informed of in advance. At least it was cheaper than the $4 for three-quarters of a pickle they charged me in St. Pete Beach in May! I moved on to dessert, and had the vanilla ice cream (coconut-based) with coconut whipped cream and peanut butter. It was very yummy! I wanted the peanut butter sauce, but they don't have that any more, so I got straight peanut butter (my choice). I asked the waitress to mix it in, but she basically put a small slab on the bottom and on the top. It was fine, but it would have been nice for her to at least try the mix-in style. I know this sounds like a lot of picky complaints, so I should say I enjoyed the experience overall. read more

As an omnivore, Veggie Gal is my favorite vegetarian restaurant in the greater Boston area. So often at other restaurants, even vegetarian-focused restaurants, it can feel like there's something missing when ordering vegetarian dishes. "Oh, this could use meat." Veggie Galaxy, by contrast, knows how to make vegetarian dishes work. I especially recommend the fake-mozzarella sticks; the texture and flavor both approximate real mozzarella very closely, and go really well with the marinara sauce that comes on the side. I've tried a lot of the sandwiches and never been disappointed. Portions are great, and the flavors and textures go well together.
