I was visiting Providence, and my vegan/vegetarian friends all recommended this restaurant (and to try the spare ribs), and I can definitely understand why. It was not too busy on a Saturday evening when my friend and I visited, and service was good. We tried the fried oyster mushrooms ($12), the BBQ seitan appetizer ($8, my favorite because of the sauce!), and the cutlet sizzling plate ($18) which was cool to see (and hear!) when it arrived. The flavors were good but my favorite was the BBQ sauce which was not the typical commercial BBQ sauce. I've been thinking about it since I've left Providence. We ended with fried ice cream (~$8) that was very sweet but tasty. Portions were large (especially the ice cream) and I had some leftovers. Veggie Fun is a pan-asian vegan kosher restaurant in downtown Providence. I am not vegan, but I am always willing to have vegan food and have went to other vegan restaurants. When you walk in, there is a bar with seats in the middle, dining booths on the right, and seating on the left. We were seated at one of the booths and only one other booth was taken around 1:00pm on a Monday. You can see some wear and tear on the booth seats, but it is really nice and spacious inside. Lunch specials are available Monday to Friday until 3:00 pm, excluding holidays. They are all served with brown rice, miso soup and spring roll except for the noodle dishes (L13 and L14) which are served without brown rice. Lunch specials are $12.00. A list of homemade iced drinks are available as well. I had the Thai Iced-Tea and my husband had the Mango Green Tea. They were $5.00 each. The drinks were refreshing and pleasing. I had the Sweet and Sour Sesame Soy Protein lunch special and my husband had the General Tso's Soy Protein lunch special. We've always been a fan of seitan and really enjoyed our dishes. The sauce was very flavorful and tasty. I mixed some of the sauce with the brown rice to give the rice some flavor. The miso soup was very good, not overly salty. We were so full by the end of the meal. After ordering, drinks and food came out in no time. Service was alright. Finding a Kosher plant-based restaurant that has absolutely delicious food was a highlight of my time on a quick trip through Providence. The ambience and service were excellent. The dining and bar areas are spacious and have vintage charm that matches the historic building, I liked the lighting, which was soft but you could easily read the menu. I was really surprised that it was not more crowded, but it seemed that most people ordered takeout and delivery. We first tried the fried Autumn Rolls first, which were crisp and flavorful and not greasy. We shared a few different main courses which were also all very good. It was my first time trying "spare ribs" (Smoked Seitan with green beans), and I was told by an omnivore dining with me that they were spot on. I really liked them and the accompanying green beans, which were very fresh, Everything else was also extremely tasty. They have an excellent tea selection- both hot and cold. I saw lemongrass soup and didn't read that it was hot and sour soup (one of my favorite soups but I was expecting something different)...the lemongrass was not very upfront but also, my bad for not reading that it was a hot and sour soup- pretty standard and ok for a typical hot and sour. The General Tso's Soy Protein was pretty tasty- I actually enjoyed the flavor and texture....it was not what I expected though. It didn't have the meat substitute texture of the chicken- it was just kind of it's own thing...and the flavor reminded me of something I can't quite put my finger on. Spring rolls were not very warm and nothing to write home about and Pad-Thai was a little lacking on flavors...fine but lacking the 'funk' I love from a good pad thai. We got stir fry udon with tofu and veggie dumplings for about $110 for 14 people, which was more than enough! It's been a long time since we've been able to go out for a dinner night and my wife's birthday seemed like the perfect time to go for it. We chose here! We got a reservation for 8 and started the dinner off with a round of apps and drinks. The drinks did not disappoint - red sangria, mojitos and raspberry margaritas seemed to be the table favs. The apps were edamame, friend dumplings, kimchi and autumn rolls - all fantastic. I ordered the lemongrass soup, it was one of my favs and I was slightly disappointed with it. It was tasty and just enough spicy but definitely different. It had more of a tomato base and was thicker. Not what I was anticipating, but good. The main dishes were general Tso protein (2 reg spice level and one not spicy), basil protein, fried rice, and sweet and sour protein. All came with a side of brown rice and miso soup. Luckily I was with people who let me try a bit of it all. They were all excellent except for the Tso. The sauce has changed, the protein medallions were different and I was underwhelmed since my expectations were from all my previous visits. The. On spicy one was inedible and we sent it back. The other dishes were slightly different than before too, but very good. My previous review stated it was consistently delicious. The exact same every time and knocked out of the park. With those anticipations in mind this left me a little disappointed. I'm a creature of habit and a firm believer in don't fix what's not broke. But things change I guess, much to my dismay. We will still go back or get take out, for sure. The service was gracious and prompt. The food was hot and fresh, as were all the ingredients. They were accommodating and I appreciated that especially being a birthday outing. I'll update again next time we decide to give it a go! I was in Boston having a medical test and found out that the nurse and I were both from the Providence area and both vegetarians! She recommended Veggie Fun and my husband and I had lunch there on the way home. It's always so nice to be able to look at the whole menu instead of the 4-5 vegetarian dishes, usually pasta. They have a large lunch special menu until 3p for $12, so we ordered from that. Your entree comes with miso soup, a small spring roll, and brown rice. We both had seitan dishes; his was Spare Ribs (yummy sauce!) with green beans, and I forget what mine was called but it was delicious! It came with sliced carrots. We were pleasantly full, they were lunch-sized portions. One waiter was serving the room and he was very gracious. The room was beautiful with lots of twinkly lights that must be gorgeous at night! This dish tasted better day two after the beans softened some and soaked up some of the rib sauce. Black Pepper Seitan with Kale (Grade: A) - very good. Reminded me of one of my favorite vegan dishes from a restaurant in Georgia. The seasoning was on point and the kale was cooked just right, not too soggy or too hard. I'm not a vegan/vegetarian but I do like trying places for an alternative to meat sometimes. Plus, with more friends that are, it's good to find so many options in Providence. I came here and tried the Black pepper seitan lunch special and was blown away by how flavorful it was. First, it came with a simple bowl of miso soup (good on a dreary/windy day). And as you can see in the picture, there was a good portion of seitan served over sauteed kale, with rice and a spring roll. It was pretty cheap too ($12/13 for the special). During our journey into a more plant-based diet, I frequently check the cities that we are in for local vegan and vegetarian restaurants. My husband and I are both pretty adventurous with food, so even if there's a place that we haven't been to and don't know anything about, we're usually down to give it a try. That's how we found Veggie Fun. When we arrived, it was a blustery day in February, and we were one of two tables occupied in the entire restaurant. Our server Emma was efficient and prompt, and gave us menus and took our drink order while we looked over the options which was an interesting mix of Japanese, Chinese, Korean and other Asian fusion inspired dishes. I ordered a hot peach ginger tea and hubby ordered a hot Earl Gray tea ($2.50 each) so we could defrost after making the trek to the restaurant. After reading the reviews, we both knew that one of us was going to get the General Tso's lunch special ($10) because people were raving about it. I decided to be the one to order it and hubby ordered the Singapore noodles ($10). I also ordered a side of the kimchi ($5). The first thing that came out was miso soup and it was very hot and decently flavored. Both of our entrees came out super fast, which was not surprising to me given how quiet it was that day. My entree had one fried spring roll, a small mound of brown rice, a huge pile of lightly steamed broccoli topped with vegan protein that was lightly breaded and fried and covered in a sweet/spicy/tangy sauce. The fried roll was undercooked, mushy and doughy inside, but the flavors were pretty good if it had only been properly cooked. The rice was very dry and crumbly, and sort of difficult to eat. The main part of the dish itself was wonderfully crisp from the frier, but I felt like the sauce was a little cloyingly sweet... although scraping most of it off left it with a decent flavor coating. The Singapore noodles did not come with rice because they were already a carb but did come alongside a fried roll as well. Both of us felt like the noodles were well seasoned at well cooked but not overly impressive. The kimchi was very spicy and also very sweet which caught me off guard. Both of the teas were very good and very flavorful. Inside the restaurant it is eclectic with a large full bar and plentiful seating. I passed by the kitchen on the way to the restroom and it looked very clean inside which made me happy. Service was prompt but not overly friendly, and prices are hard to beat for pretty decent vegan cuisine. I definitely will be returning here to give them another try, if only just to have their brown rice pudding which I didn't have room for after eating such a giant pile of steamed broccoli. I'm happy to have found veggie fun and I'm happy with the diversity in vegan and vegetarian cuisine that is becoming more popular and easier to find. read more

I really like the black pepper seitan here. They give a good amount of greens and seitan and rice. Every dish I've had here has been on the sweet side which I'm not a huge fan of but sometimes it really hits the spot. Their lychee lemonade was incredibly sweet and I couldn't finish the whole thing. It tasted like mostly syrup and a bit of lemon and water. Their fried ice cream was also interesting. It's the first time I've had fried ice cream so I'm not sure what to compare it to but it was a giant ball of dough with a white, creamy sweet filling that was kind of like melted whipped cream. read more
