The 6-inch meatball sub ($10)
Rachel S.

This place was honestly one of the highlights of my visit to Providence. Their Trio sandwich was phenomenal (the ranch sauce sealed the deal) and I enjoyed the warmth of the meatball sub and gooey-ness of the cheese although the cheese flavor wasn't something I was used to. Still very tasty and a 6-inch was a full meal! Very affordable at about $10-11 for 6-inches. Having Like No Udder ice cream for dessert was a perfect and convenient combo since they are in the same building.

Massive sandwich for $15. I got the not a Reuben and it had to be 16 inches long. I really liked the flavor of their Seitan meat, and it wasn't dry. The bread was fantastic - it was an excellent crusty roll. However, the sandwich tasted off. I like sauerkraut and mustard so maybe it was the vegan cheese sauce that sort of ruined the flavor and prevented it from being an amazing sandwich. It looked gray and gross so this was probably it. Garden Grille right up the road still has the best Reuben-type sandwich I've ever had. I know PVDeli's isn't a typical Reuben sandwich because there's no rye bread, but they should take notes from what Garden Grille does. There's is out of this world! The staff there was very friendly and welcoming.

Great food every time and a well trained friendly staff. The Cannonball is an excellent vegan bbq sandwich served on fresh bread. Free bag of Cape Cod Potato Chips with each sandwich. Reasonable priced as well.

Providence Vegan Deli is a spot that pleasantly surprised me! I'm not vegan, but I do enjoy and appreciate good and creative vegan food. I ordered The Big Toona sandwich, and I loved it! I got the smaller size (which was still massive), and I was so impressive with the delicious flavors and textures. The "Toona" was a chickpea salad, and it was so satiating. The interior of the restaurant was also very cute and clean with plenty of seating. The worker who took our order was playing a Twenty One Pilots radio, so that was already a strong start to our visit! She was very kind and patient as we decided which sandwiches to get. I would highly recommend Providence Vegan to Deli to anyone, regardless of dietary needs. And this would be a perfect spot to take your vegan or vegetarian friends!

We were planning to get some ice cream from Like No Udder, and when we saw that they shared their space with Providence Vegan Deli, it made our dinner choice really easy. They make their seitan meats in-house, and the portions are large, so we decided to share a few items. My kid immediately zeroed in on the massive meatballs made from seitan, tofu, and veggies. The meatball was too big for him to eat the whole thing, so we finished it for breakfast, and it was really well-seasoned and just as good the second day. The potato salad was so creamy and tasty, one of my favorite things we got. We shared two of the smaller size of the sandwiches - the Frank (the Italian grinder) and the Trio (corned beef, turkey, pepperoni, and cheese). Both sandwiches were good, completely packed with ingredients, but the Italian was the clear winner. Would 100% get that again. Great place to go for vegan alternatives to classic deli sandwiches.

I'm a longtime vegetarian who is always hankering for a good sandwich, and I feel like I hit the jackpot with Providence Vegan Deli. I got the Toona and it was huge! It needed a little extra pepper, but it was pretty solid. It came with a bag of Cape Cod chips and I also ordered a side of sweet and spicy potato hash that was delicious. The service was prompt and it's a cool shop with nice vibes. I'll definitely be back here in the future.

I'm trying to shy away from bread so I opted for a tofu based "egg - ish" salad on top of fennel salad with pickles, tomatoes and onions.

Don't let East Providence scare you. They've got some great places to eat. Like The Providence Vegan Deli. Think Artesian meets urban legends. Mingled together and we get a delicatessen a savory treats.

Took my 10 year old roommate to Providence Vegan Deli today as an attempt to use all my RI FOOD FIGHTS Sandwich coupons. The place shares its space with Like No Udder, a vegan ice cream shop. It was bright and clean but also a bit cramped for space. Our cashier was lovely, showing us the options and giving us plenty of time to sort out what we wanted. We decided to take it to go since the place was pretty full and we don't mind eating in a car We got the Vera and The Frank. The Vera was their version of a meatball sub, and the Frank was their Italian grinder. Both were really tasty. The Vera was surprisingly good. While the texture was soft for a meatball, it was seasoned in a way that you got the classic red sauce Italian taste. The sauce was delicious, and the VioLife provolone melted into this creamy like sauce that was a lovely accompaniment to the sandwich. The roommate had the Frank and he loved it! He rated it a 9 out of 10. His only complaint is he wished it had more "meat" and less of the fresh veggies. It was really packed with shredded lettuce so I understand how that can overwhelm the sandwich. He did an elite move and added a bag of Cape Cod chips to the sandwich. He ate about half, so I look forward to trying the leftovers later I like going out for vegan even though I don't ascribe to the diet/lifestyle because I am often surprised and delighted by what people are creating out of plants out there. This place is no exception. Other selections on the menu included buffalo chicken, egg salad, and even a rueben. All meatless, of course. Enough interesting options that I wouldn't mind coming back and I won't hesitate to recommend this spot for my vegan/vegetarian friends.

One of the stops on our RI food fights best sandwich.. I have to say I was impressed. This place was good, and no, not just "good for a vegan deli", it was good as far as sandwich shops go in general! I ordered the firestorm which had Ethiopian spiced seitan. It was very flavorful and those warm spices are right up my alley. Think spices like cumin, allspice, clove, nutmeg etc. The 6" sandwich was PACKED with the seitan, the vegan cheese and had a healthy helping of shredded lettuce. Despite all it's filling, it maintained a good moisture and mouthfeel with the mayo they used here. All in all, this was a good level of spice. Not overwhelming to me and I'm not exactly a mad-chili-head but I can get on with some spice. The portion was fantastic and the folks running the joint were super friendly (and had twenty one pilots on loop so bonus points for that). Here is the description for my sandwich: "House made hot and spicy Ethiopian spiced seitan, The Stuff house made hot mayo, violife cheddar cheese, jalapeños, lettuce and tomato on a soft grinder roll." Overall, I loved it. I have to admit it's difficult to get past the processed flavor of the vegan violife cheese, this sandwich would have been a 10/10 with some real cheddar but, it's a vegan sandwich shop after all. Would definitely see myself back here especially if I were with a crowd that had some dietary restrictions. Thanks Providence Vegan Deli!

Vegan Reuben, add jalapeños
El H.

3.5 stars. I got the vegan Reuben add jalapeños, and it was fine. The employees were nice and I liked that they share a space with a vegan ice cream shop, but the sandwich just wasn't anything to write home about. If I came back, I'd order a different sandwich! I did really like the seitan, though, but it didn't taste like corned beef. I wish it would've had thousand island instead of mustard (and I love mustard)!

Italian Grinder Sandwich
Willie W.

Came back two days in a row. First I got the Grinder, then the next day I got the Trio. Both were good but I enjoyed the Grinder the best. The sandwiches were a little dry at first but all of the moisture was located near the crease of the bun. If I had it my way I would distribute the dressing more evenly throughout the sandwich so that each bite is more balanced. Service was curt but the cashier was very knowledgeable. Prices for the sandwiches are good for a vegan meal and the sandwich came with chips. I will return.

The yummiest vegan deli on the east side from the owner of Like no Udder (which now shares a space). Plenty of parking in both a lot and on the street. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Menu is smallish to start, but plenty of options. I ordered the cannonball, frank the Italian, and firestorm. So delicious! Homemade seitan daily. Fresh bread too. I was told the potato salad sells out daily, so I got a side of that. You do get a bag of Utz chips with each sandwich. So nice! Hours are limited, so do check the website or social channels. Cannot wait to see this place flourish. Welcome to Hope Street!

The Frank
Tanya W.

Finally got to try this place after seeing their recipes and sandwiches on TikTok. Did not disappoint! Ordered the Frank which had fresh ingredients, and the seitan was well seasoned. I'll have to come back to try the Firestorm. The sandwiches are HUGE but like any deli sandwich they do get soggy if you try to save them for later.

I hadn't been to Tony's Colonial Food in a couple of years, but even though they are on a smaller…read morescale they definitely give Venda a run for their money. I probably would have purchased my food here instead had I known their selection of prepared foods looked much better than my previous stop at another store. I stopped in mainly to buy the imported buffalo mozzarella where they seem to be the only place who imports it from Italy. It did not disappoint. You really haven't experienced authentic mozzarella until you've had the real deal made from actual water buffalo milk. The personalized service at this establishment is wonderful. It is family owned and operated, and they are truly a class act and treat their customers so kindly. Their cheese selection is also very expansive and they also sell many cookware items imported from Italy. I can't say enough good things about this little store with a big personality. Please stop by if you are visiting Federal Hill!

Tony's did not disappoint! This is an old school Italian grocery and deli. The products on the…read moreshelves are thoughtfully curated (I am still thinking of a certain olive oil container). The hot and cold deli counters offer a wide variety of Italian options - everything looked delicious! I opted for a prosciutto, mozzarella, and fresh basil sandwich on focaccia. The saltiness of the prosciutto with the creaminess of the mozzarella was perfectly balanced. And the whole fresh basil leaves just enhanced the flavors. Don't forget to check out the small dessert case by the register! The pistachio cheesecake with ricotta was worth the trip! Again cannot recommend this store enough, you will not be disappointed!

They have a small parking lot in front of and beside the building. There are tables and chairs available if you want to dine in; however, I opted to order my food to go. I ordered the large natural turkey sandwich without lettuce, with a side of chips. I later decided I wanted to order chicken noodle soup, but found out I couldn't have it due to my food allergies. Thankfully, they were able to void the order and refund me for the soup. Be sure to let the cashier know about any allergies you may have, as I failed to mention it to him at the beginning. He informed me that they use a few tree nuts in certain items and that he lets the kitchen know when customers have allergies so they can be extra cautious when preparing the food. It didn't take too long to receive my food, but while I waited, I looked around. They also sell various cheeses, meats, and other à la carte items for purchase. My sandwich was plentiful, and I had enough to eat the next day. My only gripe is that, since it was my first time, I wished the cashier had explained the menu a little more. I didn't realize I could change the type of bread and add more toppings. My sandwich was a bit dry, so I wish I had known I could make other modifications. Now that I know, I'll be sure to add more toppings and try a different type of bread next time. Overall, it was pretty good, and I would try it again.
