    HALF of a large muffuletta
    Billy S.

Over the past couple years, I've been spending an increasing amount of time in Providence. My partner, who lives here, has been dutifully playing tour guide, and showing me all the best spots. It's been long enough now that I felt like I had the lay of the land, and pretty much knew all of the best places to eat. Until we stopped into The Hut for lunch the other day. Before I even took the first bite, I shot a look at her and demanded to know- "Why have you never taken me here before?" I'd ordered the muffuletta. "Small or large?" the friendly waitress asked. A large, of course. I have a pretty big appetite, and we were just about to hit the road to Maine for a few hours. As soon as I was handed my sandwich, I knew what my dinner plans were. Had I ordered a party size by mistake? Where did they even find a ciabatta roll this big? Did they need a wheelbarrow to bring in the olive tapenade for this sandwich alone? No exaggeration, I think it was the biggest sandwich I'd ever seen. Of course, quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality, but that was not an issue here. It was also one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. We took our sandwiches to go, but next time I think I'll settle into to one of the tables in this cozy little spot to dine in. They also have a nice patio out back for when it warms up. To my new best friends at The Hut- thanks for blowing my mind. You'll be seeing me again soon.

The new location is really cute and the sand which options are amazing. I typically get the corned beef on focaccia bread and it's huge. Good to split with someone.

Sandwich Hut- I was excited to have one open up in the area. The sandwiches are fresh and tasty- like the other shop. However it is a bit pricey. My Lg Turkey sub add bacon and provolone and a water came out to $18. The price was a bit high- but overall I did enjoy it. There is a nice patio in the back where you can eat and enjoy your sandwich. I am glad I tried it!!!

Bread was about a 6/10 , nothing to write home about . Honey hot pizza was a 7/10 good , but not great . My pasta dish was definitely an 8.4/10, I do remember really enjoying it . Only issue was where they seated us , I preferred the seating in the nicer dining area , but they stuffed us in the deli like some loose salami's , didn't like that at all and one bit ...yes I had a reservation . The 4 star is for the food and service. I just didn't like my deli seating. Whatevs! Will I go back, probably not ,was it good ?? It sure was. I can't rank my wife and friend's food I didn't taste it.

The space itself is interesting -- I understand the location has even been used as a filming location for a movie -- and the coffee and food we had were both quite good. What stood out, unfortunately, was the atmosphere created by the staff. During my visit the café was less than half full, but employees were very actively directing where people could and could not sit in what otherwise appeared to be open seating. At one point I watched a staff member speak sharply to a customer while waving a sign that said "No laptops at the bar." The confusing part was that the customer didn't appear to have a laptop at all. The interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and awkward to witness. Taken together, the tone of the staff came across as petty and uninviting, which really undermined what could otherwise be a pleasant place to stop for coffee. The drinks and food were good, but the atmosphere made the experience feel tense. Visitors may want to keep in mind that seating and house rules seem to be enforced quite strictly.

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

It feels like her place in the best way -- warm, proud, hands-on. Pastries are legit. Super buttery, flaky enough to make a mess, clearly baked that morning. No sad, sitting-around-all-day vibes. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and that tomato jam needs to be illegal. Sweet, savory, slightly tangy -- it completely makes the sandwich. I kept trying to figure out how to recreate it at home. Not happening. Crispy chicken sandwich was properly seasoned and not dried out (why is that so hard for some places?). Fries were solid too -- crispy, not limp. And the kale salad with roasted chickpeas and chicken made me feel like I had my life together. Fresh, simple, and actually satisfying. It's one of those places you stumble into while traveling and then immediately start googling whether you can justify going back the next day.
