I'm vegetarian and from CA. The first couple months after moving here were rough, but then I found Vegan Sun and knew I'd be able to make it through grad school! LOL! I've yet to hear complaints from any friends, but I have almost always gone with bahn mi and BBQ fresh rolls. SO good and affordable even on a student budget. This place reminds me of a little hole in the wall in San Jose, CA that I adore, but Vegan Sun actually has a cute dining area that's totally appropriate for families and friends to sit down and eat. Nothing fancy and no frills. Mostly mind your own table and drinks/silverware/etc., but perfectly pleasant. In Provo for the week and stopped in for lunch. The food here is fantastic with Banh Mi sandwiches, stir fried ramen, noodle bowls, and much more. We got the stir fried ramen. The portion size was perfect for a big lunch. Choices for protein include tofu, bean curd, and vegan beef/chicken/ham/shrimp. This is a place we always visit when we are in town and wish we had a similar restaurant in the Boston area. It is a must while in Provo. read more

We were driving through town and stopped here for dinner. We ordered the house special pho, the tofu pho, the crispy rolls, the bbq Bahn mi and a kids ginger tofu. Everything was amazingly fresh and delicious. The service was fast and friendly. My son loved his bbq bag Bahn mi sandwich so much he said he wants to make a special trip back to Provo just to have the sandwich again. We are so thrilled we found this place! Overall just meh. It's expensive for food that honestly isn't much different than the quality of something I'd get from Walmart. I got the stir fried bean curd ramen, my wife banh ni, and it was just essentially in a cheap grocery store baguette that was cut open. Neither actually tasted Vietnamese. As for the ramen, it was cheap thin ramen noodles in some sort of soy sauce stir fry. If I was vegan looking for a meat substitute, the bean curd stir fry's meat substitute was actually good tasting for not being meat. It was almost like a rough teriyaki soyish pulled pork and wasn't awful, but it wasn't great either. They thee in quite a bit of lettuce too, so it was a weird stir fry. Not Asian at all, as someone who grew up for some of my high school years there. The place is nothing special on the inside and service was just fine, although they just point you at a table number to sit at after you order at a counter. The overall ambiance is just cheap restaurant, but unfortunately the food really isn't super cheap. Maybe it's just because I'm not vegan, and I don't know how hard it is to cook vegan meals, so maybe having that option is nice for some, but as a non-vegan who enjoys vegan food from time to time, it was pretty disappointing. The food was subpar, and I honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone as it is right now. I've been to other vegan places and found it much better flavor wise PS: don't get the vegan jerky they have up front. Adorable vegan Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of downtown Provo--definitely try the house special pho and the noodle salad. Both healthy options with huge serving sizes. Really friendly and helpful staff if you need help navigating the menu but, really, it's the food that is the star at Vegan Sun (get it? The sun is a star haha). I've been wanting to try this place out since they opened! COVID 19 is going on right now so I called in to order. I looked over the menu and there were so many options I couldn't pick. I'm very indecisive lol. I asked for recommendations and got the two things the girl recommended and we were really happy with them. I was wanting something fresh and he was wanting something meaty so the Lemongrass Tofu Noodle salad and BBQ Banh Mi sandwich fit us perfectly. So incredibly fresh and light fresh flavors. I have patronized vegan sun on several occasions now and am always pleased with the food! I always recommend it to visitors who appreciate good Vietnamese and exciting meat alternatives. My vegan gf & I are road tripping & had to stop for lunch. she was excited to see the "roll" section so she ordered a ton thinking it was sushi. sadly, they were spring rolls with rice paper... It would be great if there was more of a description. I ordered the rice plate with the combo of proteins, not knowing what that all included. The tofu was the best part, but i hate shellfish so i avoided the shrimp & there was one other protein that had awful consistency and my gf & i had no idea what it was. I feel like Provo needs more fresh and vegan places so we went to try it out. My husband is NOT a vegan food guy and he said his "lucky lemongrass" bahn mi was the best meat substitute he has ever had. It was very flavorful and a good deal at $7 with chips. I liked my house special pho less; it was lacking in spices to make up for the absence of beef stock and the meat substitutes were chewy. So nice to have a vegan- plant based restaurant prominently on Provo Center street! Vegan Sun is a great place to go whether you are on a date, hanging with friends, or having a large party. They are semi-casual. You walk up to the counter and order from their robust menu- they have noodle, rice, soup dishes along with banh Mi sandwiches and Pho soup! It is a fully vegan restaurant with meat substitutes. They will give you a number to place on your table and they will bring you your meal. They have self serve water and a variety of utensils- forks, spoons, reusable chopsticks and wood chop sticks. I felt that the service was very nice and speedy. My food was fresh and delicious. I got the Spicy Lemon Awakening Rice and fresh veggie rolls with peanut sauce! The rice dish was very mild- I didn't get a running nose. LOL The only con is parking since it is in center street you will have to park on center, surrounding side streets or a parking garage. read more
