I'm quite embarrassed that after years of living in Long Beach, I've just discovered Vegan Castle. Hands down the best sushi I've had in LBC! And yes -- it's VEGAN. If you're a baked sushi lover, you won't even notice the difference, outside of its exceptionally fresh quality and a "tempura" like no other! This is the spot you take your vegan friends and everyone will be thoroughly pleased. I dined in with a mentor/friend and ordered the Dragon, Scooby Doo and Spider Roll. The rolls are not only well assembled and nice on the eyes, but the flavors were incredible. If you're a fan of chili crunch, the Scooby Doo isn't overly spicy and is enjoyable. The enoki mushrooms in the Spider Roll were cooked to perfection and we had the equivalent of about a roll to take home with leftovers from each dish. Their vegan tempura reminds me of that of "hush puppies" and adds a nice seasoned savory crunch. This is a great spot to swing by for lunch or to order takeout with a humble dining space and kind staff that feels neighborly as ever. Highly recommend!
Health and Wellness aside, truly what we eat has a lot to do with all of our senses. If we can eat "sushi" in a sustainable way, then why not?! Prior to experiencing the vegan lifestyle, I never really ate sushi in the sense it was meant to be eaten raw! So, if you were in it for the baked items, you are gonna love this place! Mind you, I only ordered two items from the Appetizers. I came alone and so had no one to share other items on the plant-based menu. The textures and flavors are wonderful....granted I have only been here once and have only tried two things on the menu... I wouldn't mind returning if I were in the area. I would LOVE to see this place flourish! Right now it looks like a one man show. I got to hand it to Tony for working so diligently. He'll take your order, accept payment, and bring your order to your table
Welcome to the Castle! Absolutely worth the trip, but only one super king managing it all (most of the time). The guy running the show is a one man machine (preparing food, taking orders, handling pick up orders, serving tables, etc.), but that said this means everything comes out slower and orders take quite a bite of time definitely expect up to a 35 to 45 minutes wait for your food to come out after you order, but it will come out and come out amazingly!! Some regulars called in or placed orders online to cut down on the wait. Now we know! Seems like they have less busier times, but Friday and Saturday nights, everyone is craving Vegan Castle. V.C. puts so much care and quality into every dish, it's easy to see why they are so loved and supported. They just need some help to back up the demand of this popular Long Beach spot. Stellar rolls and eats - we were so hungry and had an event/party we were attending after where only drinks are provided, so we knew this would be dinner and essentially inhaled those incredible perfectly prepared rolls. Thick cut, eight pieces, topped with incredible sauces, plus all the goodness. We had the LB/Long Beach roll and the Veggie Tempura Roll, both had 10/10 flavor. Absolutely the best in the LB and definitely top five in Greater Los Angeles County. Definitely want to try everything on the list. Easy parking on the street. Restrooms for customers and tons of seating throughout. You can seat yourself and grab your own water, napkins, utensils, etc. Soy sauce on the tables, and pretty nice mellow ambiance with touches of plants, humble decor and sounds.
It took a while for Vegan Castle to win me over, but I'm glad it did! My very first experience was back in 2021, within their first year of business. In short, I really enjoyed what I ordered. I had one of the deep-fried rolls, a Red Dragon Roll, and a Crispy Fish Taco. I was just frustrated that it took nearly 75 minutes to get my food. Flash forward to early November 2024. I'm in the neighborhood and decided to place a to-go order. But opted not to when we learned that it would take an hour. At least this time my expectations were managed. I was in the neighborhood again a few weeks later and decided to swing by, place my order, then come back an hour later. I was a bit delayed coming back and arrived closer to 90 minutes later and my order was ready and waiting! I took it home and this Scooby Doo Roll was better than expected! It's filled with tempura shrimp, cream cheese, and jalapeño. I asked the guy what time it would be ready and to my surprise, he said 10-15 mins! I think I found the best pocket of time because my Spider Roll was ready as expected and it was super yummy! It's made with tempura enoki mushrooms, greens, carrot, cucumber, and avocado. On my last two visits, he was the only one working! It really made me appreciate all that goes into being a small business owner. Much respect for being a rare vegan gem in the west side of Long Beach.
Loved the Volcano and the Spider Roll! Those are must-gets, just trust. They are both pretty big rolls. The red dragon roll was solid. The rainbow roll was beautiful but wished it had more crunch to it and not sure how I feel about banana being one of the toppings. The ocean roll was okay. Also wished it had more of a bite or crunch to it, but that's just my personal preference. We came on a Saturday afternoon and there was just one guy working the entire place so we had a wait a lil bit for all of our rolls to arrive on the table but he did a great job at making sure everyone had at least something on the table to munch on while he prepped the rest of the orders. Plenty of street parking!
The food is phenomenal. Best Vegan (plant-based) rolls we ever had. We keep coming back. Once in awhile when we feel like eating rolls, this is the only place that comes to mind. We always order the fried rolls, crispy fish tacos, and fries. The portion they gave us this time was a lot. It was decent for the price and was surprised. Everything tastes good. Order in advance to avoid wait time as it may take a while to get your food here. The chef takes pride in his cooking but they definitely need more manpower. I've seen different girls work here but maybe hire another cook but maybe too costly. The owner chef is always friendly however. One thing they need to change now is the flusher in their toilet. It's been like that since years ago and I can't believe they still haven't fixed it. It's still like that and been that way for so long.
Bottom line: BEST sushi in SoCal--hands down! Vegan Castle is a hidden treasure where Tony works absolute magic. Everything is 100% vegan, and the sushi rolls are out of this world--fresh, flavorful, and creative. He also makes amazing tacos and a wide variety of other dishes, all at super reasonable prices. Whether you're vegan or not, this place is a must-try. The quality and value are unbeatable. Don't miss it! Call first!!!
Giiiiiiiiirl! Ok... So let me first say that if the food wasn't absolutely amazing I would have given this place one star. 1. This place is insanely slow. I got there when it opened and didn't get my food until 2 hours later. 2. There is no customer service. Literally there's just one dude working there and he's too busy to help you. 3. This place is in a horrid state of disrepair and cleanliness. To elaborate: I got there when it opened and there was only one person ahead of me. There was no sign or any indication on where I was supposed to order my food. I kinda just had to interrupt the only guy there to order my food. It took 2 hours for my food to be served and for some reason the people after me got served first and they got served the wrong food but since it took so long they just took the wrong food and left. About an hour and a half into waiting I was informed that one of the items I ordered was not in stock and I got a refund. The place itself had a boarded up front door, broken seating, cracked and broken ceiling and paint, the floors/walls/tables were grimy, the toilet can only be flushed by pulling on a zip tied chain and it looks like the place hasn't seen soap and water for years. Anyway, if you have a couple of hours to kill, don't care about customer service and have had all your shots then this is the place for you!
This was my first time trying out vegan food. The staff were friendly. I tried the shrimp vegan taco. The taco is a little messy, but healthy and delicious. The only thing is the restaurant does not feel very welcoming, it needs to be updated. But overall great food, great quality, and budget friendly.
WOW! One of the best vegan sushis I've ever had. There's so many options yiu really can't go wrong. I shared the edamame, crunch roll and Santa Fe roll with a friend and it was more than enough food - we even had leftovers. We even got a complimentary miso soup. The restaurant is small but there's still a good amount of seating. Service is great and the people are nice! Would definitely recommend for vegans and non vegans alike! read more
I've had vegan sushi in multiple cities now and I can safely say that Vegan Castle is simply the best of the best. Don't let the casual setting fool you. Their sushi rolls here stack up to the competition and I am so jealous of folks that live around here and can get this more often than me. We ordered three rolls: Shrimp Tempura, Long Beach, and the Red Dragon Roll. Each order hovered from $12 - $15 and came with 6 - 10 pieces each. For it to all be vegan, those are extremely good prices for delicious food. Skip the avo & cucumber rolls - you have something better! The Red Dragon and Long Beach rolls were my favorite. Each using plant-based proteins for the seafood and combining it with sauces that really take the rolls to a new level. They also prioritize the aesthetics game so it feels like you're paying for $20 sushi rolls in DTLA. Service here was super friendly and chill. They recommended how many rolls we should get for our party and payment at the cashier after made it easy. It looks to be a small business so get out here and support. To be honest, I wish it was AYCE just so I could have more of their amazing sushi. But I'll be back nonetheless one day! read more

What a great find. Located on a small neighborhood side street in LBC is the most fabulous Vegan Sushi joint. The chef-owner takes great pride in his work and his presentation is lovely. My daughter is Vegan, I am not but let me tell you.... It didn't matter. Because delicious is universal! And as r Dom s they are, don't miss the season fries because they're addicting. Best vegan sushi I've ever had! Granted, it's my first time trying vegan sushi but it tastes so real! I tried the garlic spicy edamame and crunch roll. The edemame was so freaking fragrant and flavorful. I'll probably always get these haha The crunch roll was gigantic and delicious. I enjoyed every single bite. Vegan castle is v generous with their portions. They also have the friendliest and informative staff. The restaurant is an open kitchen concept making it a very organic and cozy environment. They can get busy and therefore the wait might be long. But trust, it is so WORTH the wait. Just order ahead if you're impatient haha I absolutely recommend them and can't wait to try more items off the menu! read more

It's a very casual place with a good variety of interesting rolls and other options. The avocado taco had a lot of veggies but also deep fried avocado with a savory sauce - that turned out as a very flavorful crunchy combinations. I'd definitely get another one. My favorite roll was a Long Beach roll - the cream cheese was spot on, the mushrooms added just the right amount of texture. The roll overall was delectable and refreshing. Sherry roll was a surprise. This was my first dessert roll, and I didn't expect much of it. However, it was creamy and not overly sweet, and made a great finish to our meal. This is a good option if you're craving vegan sushi. It wasn't my favorite vegan sushi spot but it's decent. We got a variety of things to try and each was unique but the base was all the same. The fish taco was pretty good and I would definitely get that again! If you're craving miso soup just be careful of their miso because it has more of a vinegary taste and doesn't taste like the typical miso soup. Server was super sweet and gave us a bunch of recommendations and the spot was easy to find! Also, plenty of street parking. read more
What was ordered: 1) Dragon Roll 2) Crunch Roll 3) Crispy Fishless Taco I'm going to start with the crispy fishless taco. The name says it all ... CRISPY and that's exactly what it was. I totally dug it! It's probably not the healthiest but literally every bite had an amazing crunch to it. I enjoyed the heat level and squeezing lime over it was the cherry on top! The lime made it for me! Each bite was so good and I actually thought this was going to be my least favorite but it ended up being my favorite. The portions are huge! You get a lot for what you pay for. However, the sushi for me was just eh. Some pieces (many of them) were a lackluster as far as taste. I found the sushi to be blah, heavy and dry. Have water nearby and be prepared to take a nap afterwards. I liked the crunch roll better than the dragon roll, but if I'm being honest, I wouldn't repurchase either one. Perhaps their other sushi rolls are better. Overall, if you're looking for a vegan fish taco... this place makes a tasty one. read more

The food was delicious! I ordered the crunch roll, rainbow roll, and the red dragon roll. They did not disappoint, I have to say the red dragon was my favorite! I also got the spicy edamame and they were yummy, wish it had more of a lime flavor to them but over all delicious. The food took about 30-35 min to be served but there was only one chef working and it was honestly worth the wait. I've heard great things about the spider roll. Def trying it next time :) read more

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Good vegan sushi rolls in an unexpected location. When I heard there was a good vegan sushi place on the west side, I was pretty surprised. Reading the rhapsodic Yelp reviews, however, I knew I had to try it. We decided to order for pickup and got the Shrimp Tempura, Ocean, and Red Dragon rolls. They traveled pretty well and still looked good by the time we got home. As we started eating, we had a hard time distinguishing one from the other as most of them share some of the same ingredients and were all generously slathered with their signature sauce--even one of the rolls which wasn't supposed to be sauced, I don't think. Overall they were tasty, but a little too much sauce for our taste. It's not going to supplant Kensho in Westminster as our favorite vegan sushi place, but in a pinch will do. Would definitely try them again. read more

Don't sleep on this spot!! With no signage it's easy to drive past it but you'll miss out it you do. As a die hard sushi lover, I avoid vegetarian rolls when I'm dining out because I eat sushi for the fish. Not after last night though! Vegan castle blew my mind with their delicious take on vegan sushi. If other sushi spots made their veggies rolls like this I'd be a fan but they don't. Thank goodness there's vegan castle! We loved the vegan fish tacos and dragon roll. All the veggies tasted fresh and similar to the pescatarian version. The fish tacos shells are clearly made in house and really elevate the taco. I was shocked by how flavorful everything was and I love that they add editable flowers as a garnish. This is definitely going to be a spot I visit frequently. My partner & I aren't vegan but I'd gladly eat here anytime just to try whatever they're making. read more

Did not taste vegan at all, and that was the beauty of this beautifully crafted selection of dishes that I ordered. Everything was so beautiful I really felt bad about eating it. Welp sorry but we need our veggies lol so there were no surviving dishes in this healthy situation. I felt as if every bite had a fresh chrisp and clean taste just as if you were enjoying the real thing. My miso soup was hot and very flavorful. I will definitely check in again in the near future read more

Anyone know if any of it is gluten free or has gluten free options? No menu up yet, but I did see someone mentioned a chef from Kensho runs it and they had GF options, so hoping. 🤞
