He claims to have 30+ years in the business but made critical mistakes during the building process. Once he collected all funds he would not take anymore calls regarding issues my pool. This company is terrible. In our quote we had cut stone under our windows, they of course did not deliver. They will not respond and are not willing to do anything because they can't afford to make this right. Thank goodness I stopped them at the closet remodel before we built our pool. let me start by saying , I didn't hire Vega or this Shawn character ! I bought a house that had the pool installed by Vega 1 yr prior to me purchasing ! this year , year one in the house ! we have the coping breaking , mastic is pulled away and concrete is cracking all around the pool ! I called Shawn didn't answer so I text him. he wanted to charge me 5100 to fix the issues , I asked about the warranty and he gave the most ridiculous answer I have ever heard ! " I think it's only 1 year". I asked for the copy of the warranty , he said no I sold the pool to the Previn owner not you ! how does this guy stay in business ??? furthermore he cuts corners to shave costs and hides the cuts so the won't show up for a year. Please, read this review before you consider working with this company. And, please, find someone else. This company is a disaster to work with. Working with them is an extremely poor decision. I signed a contract in June. 5 months later, the project is not done (outdoor deck/patio area) - with no plan in site for completion. We have failed a number of inspections and there is no end in site. It's literally been complete hell - gross incompetence and poor execution. Stacks of wood with nails coming out of the wood piled up for months... they took my yard and turned into an unsafe disaster. I wish I had never heard of this company. I wish I could take stars from other reviews. I hate that I am required to give 1 star. How would you like to live in conditions like this for 5 months? Note the patio... For 5 months, there has been a patio with no railing. I have children. And, every day we have to be wary about children opening a door and wandering out onto this patio with no railing. And, there is zero sense of urgency. And, now they refuse to communicate with us. They took our money, left piles of junk in our yard and now they don't return our phone calls. Want this to be you? 12/4 update - we are into the 6th month and everything is still the same. Still no plan and no work being done. This could be you. Think your decision through. BUYER BEWARE! Do NOT hire Vega Pools or Shawn Dunavin! We used Shawn Dunavin and Vega Pools (Spring 2020) and the level of incompetency is stunning. You will be disappointed! The following are just some of the many problems we had both during installation and then uncovered after the pool was "complete" per Shawn: (1) we had selected and confirmed via email the Midnight Blue Mini for our stonescape color, and Vega Pools installed a light gray color (Shawn admits it was his error, promised to correct but now will not install our chosen color); (2) they did not install the overflow; (3) the Hot Tub heater does not work and jet force is very weak; (4) they caused extensive bark damage during construction to our three large red oaks that have ALL died as a result; (5) poor very uneven install of the tile; and (6) the pool's Auto Fill never installed. While admitting all of these issues in previous meetings, now Shawn's only answer is a text saying he had completed our pool. Simply unacceptable! AND FROM THE BEGINNING WE HAVE HAD A POOL LEAK and we are adding water almost daily for 45-60 minutes. Shawn and Vega Pools will NOT honor his own warranty despite many many calls and emails for the past 6 months and counting. We are using another pool company to correct all of their problems and will have to explore serious next steps. Vega Pools and Shawn Dunavin are the pool contractors YOU NEED TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM if you want a job well done. This is a very muddled review for what was a very muddled job. Shawn was prompt at responding to my quote and questions. He is very personable. He answered all of my detailed questions regarding the spa unit, and accommodated several special requests, as well as suggesting some of his own to make the finish nicer. The first quote that I received was for a 5 foot long, double sided kitchen/bar with a large Primo grill and refrigerator, and a large spa with steps and a metal handrail. The price I was quoted was $11,500 (a discount of $750 for doing both jobs at the same time). What I signed a contract for was a 7' single sided kitchen against a wall, large Primo grill, no refrigerator, a large spa with stone veneer, and a "custom handrail". The price was $14,390 - a difference of $2890. So, $3000 for adding stone facing and making the kitchen single sided, with no fridge, but 2' longer. Keep this in mind. The job itself took over a month. Some of this was due to the wacky weather, which is completely understandable. I was never told when they were coming via text or call, they just showed up. Much of the crew who did the actual work spoke very little English, making communication difficult as I had to play "telephone" with Shawn and the crew. The "custom handrail" that I had been mistakenly lead to believe would be wrought iron in verbal conversation turned out to be a two rough 4x4 post/2 rail wooden handrail. At first it looked very very bad and I had to call/text/email to get it sorted. First the rails were at two extremely noticeable and different angles; the wood hadn't been sanded at all and was full of splinters; and it had a two tone stain job that didn't match the spa, the steps, or my home exterior. Weird color. The grill was a major problem. First it was placed where when you opened the lid, it was hitting the house. Once that was addressed, it turns out that these grills don't even open 90". They did replace the springs with something stronger to support the lid weight better, but I am afraid of this falling and hurting someone. Once the spa was delivered, we discovered that we actually liked the wood siding it has and opted not to do the stone veneer. There was also no backsplash on the kitchen. When it came time to settle up today, I was told that the stone veneer was only a $900 difference, not the $2000 I had assumed based on all the numbers I had at hand (I thought a difference of $1k should cover the kitchen extension) When I asked for an itemization, I was handed something that does NOT match the original partial itemization. Original: spa, electric, concrete - $9098. Today's itemization - $9905. When I called Shawn on this number fudgery, he told me that well, the electric ended up costing more. That was NEVER, in over a month's time with frequent communication, told to me. Not one word. Nor is that my problem - what I signed was a contract, not an estimate. I got tired of arguing and we settled on a deduction of $1300. I am left very unhappy with this job from the wooden handrail to the grill I can't use and now no stone and an increased cost. I do not recommend Vega unless you watch them like a hawk and get an exact itemization at every planning stage and one written onto the contract itself. While their end work looks good, it took me a lot of complaints and requests to get things fixed that shouldn't have happened to begin with. Shop elsewhere. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! We signed a contract in June for a patio/deck and the work is still not complete - FIVE MONTHS LATER!. The job was to take 2 - 3 weeks and we can get no commitment from them on when they will finish. Wood, shingles, nails have been left all over our patio which has become a safety hazard and made our backyard completely unusable. Zero attempts have been made by the company to remedy the situation after repeated pleas on our end to finish this work. They also failed numerous inspections from the city creating more stalls along the way. We are now left to find another company to finish this job. read more

Let me start by saying I hate doing this. I have never written a social media negative review. I really like Shawn and he came recommended to me by family friend. From the beginning things started to go wrong. He was hired to pour a new patio (stamped concrete) and 8 ft board on board fence. The patio was demolished and no permit obtained so it sat with re barb for 2 weeks. Then when poured his crew did numerous infractions around my property. The color was awful (brown that looks dirty) after showing me a different picture. They did not move the electrical out to the yard, so I found two round holes in the new poured patio. I had to wait 6 weeks for covers. Then comes the fence. They tore it down and did not return for TWO weeks. I was told daily the would be there to put It up. I asked for poles on outside. I get home and three of the four sides are in the inside. Numerous problems with color even off the chart he provided. I had to pay to have the poles covered with wood even though it was their mistake and no reason ever given. A month later the boards are falling off the gates as they used 3 in nails. Nails are sticking out of the wood and it is substandard wood and knot holes are starting to fall out. This is a 4 month old fence. During the work 3 of my 8 station sprinklers were cut. I asked to have his guys look at it but pretty much after payment, responses were lacking. I had all new landscaping (including all new sod) and had two different people come look at sprinklers. They confirmed that two lines were cut by fence people when they moved a section and one by the new concrete. It cost me $500 to have the repairs and I had to do it to save my new landscaping and sod. I have given Shawn at least two chances to make good on this and he is now not responding at all. So I am sorry to say I feel I have no other choice and am sad that he could have avoided all this with a small $500. I also will be spending more money to have the patio redone as it looks bad and is already cracking. I feel one of the biggest issues is Shawn did not oversee the work until it was too late. read more
