Tres leches Sorbeto

Vecino is easily a must-visit in Detroit! Their modern take on Mexico City-inspired cuisine is incredible, especially with their focus on in-house nixtamalized heirloom corn. Beyond the food, the service is some of the best I've experienced very attentive and personalized. If you're looking for an elevated yet relaxed vibe in Midtown, this is it.

Thank you Michael for a tour of your menu!! LOVED the food and dining experience. Our favs were the whole fish and beet/fruit salad! Yah gotta have the chips and salsa. Finished the meal with tres leche cake!! The bomb! Best tres leche cake I have ever had!! The chefs are creative geniuses! Definitely make reservations! Great ambience

Visited this restaurant over the weekend with some friends and it was such a wonderful dinning experience. The restaurant is beautiful inside with cool vibes and great lighting and comfortable seating throughout. It was a last minute decision to do dinner here the restaurant was very accommodating getting us in for a last min reservation. The menu was definitely not what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant and was intimidating on what to order. We were very lucky to have a server who had excellent insight on the menu items and guided us in the right direction. The food was excellent but I would say for the price the portion size of some of the items was disappointing. I would go again but with the knowledge of exactly what to order. The fish and seafood dishes were the stars of the show. The muscles, the tuna tart and the snapper are well worth the visit. If seafood isnuyour jam and you are expecting traditional Mexican food this place might not be for you.

Crudo, chips, pina colada drink

Really nice spot, but I just can't justify the prices... I think everything we ordered tasted good... the crudo, the tostada, pollo, pescado etc. there weren't any bad dishes... but I wasn't blown away nor full. The Tres Leches cake was in a raspberry milk, that was different and enjoyable. In all I can only recommend coming if you have money to blow, you could also pull up to the bar for drinks and the nice vibe, 4 drinks will get you to a nice little bill by themselves.

Highly recommend making a reservation. Very dim lighting and I found the atmosphere rather loud. Make sure you have a light for your table. The menu was a tad bit hard to see without the lamp. The chips & tortillas are made in house. The guacamole was perfect; topped with greens.. never had that before but I enjoyed it. The fish comes in 2 different sizes. We ordered the largest to share. It was perfectly cooked and had an amazing flavor. I love how they put 2 different sauces on each side.

I wanted so badly to really love this place but I was just...underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high based on feedback I had received from other people that had been there but I was wasn't impressed, especially since it's on the costlier side. Nothing was bad. It just wasn't very memorable and I don't think the cost justifies the experience. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy, definitely giving date night vibes and the bathroom were cute as well. Parking was also a hassle since there isn't a dedicated lot or place to park. It's a really busy area and you have to fend for yourself with street parking. I definitely had to drive around for several rounds before I found someone coming out and could snag a spot a couple of blocks away. Everything combined, it's not somewhere I'd be rushing back to but that was just my experience.

This was my favorite new restaurant of 2025 in Detroit (I think also Restaurant of the Year, if I'm not mistaken). It's got an amazing interior and ambiance, incredible service, and the food is inspired and innovative. It's halal friendly, which is an added bonus. It's definitely meant for sharing, so I would recommend coming with a small group of friends to order a bunch of menu items. We ordered across the menu and shared everything as a group of 4 people. We ordered about six dishes total, with 4 of the smaller plates, one larger protein main, and a dessert. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back!

Tuna Tostada

The overall vibe is good. If yelp allowed half stars I would give 3.5 because I feel the price is a bit high for the quality and level of service. Out of the dishes I tried, the pork belly and the tuna tostada were my favorite. The Papas con Rajas wasn't what I expected. I thought there would be more of a crispness to the potatoes. I really enjoyed the Strawberry Tres Leches; my partner said it was just okay.

The place is a vibe from the moment you walk through those heavy curtains. Our server Maricela was excellent and recommended the herbal spicy marg cocktail. My favorite dishes were the chicharron de pulpo and the divine tres leches with toasted coconut. Looking forward to coming back.

We've been twice now (after our first time, we booked to come back two weeks later so we could try more dishes) and Vecino is sooo good! Drinks are super interesting (I really love the "spicy margarita" which is called Picosa Verde), the El Clásico was pretty good but tasted too lime-y. You can order food at the bar also so it's an option if it's all booked up! The first time we went, we had the Sikil Pak which was only okay, it was a complex flavored dip maybe too salty (& they don't give you enough crudite) but they are happy to pack any leftovers, Tuna Tostada= delicious and the Fish=a favorite! So delicious! It's market price so yes, it can be $$$$ but you can't find anything in Michigan like it! I love Vecino! Service is excellent and the ambiance is great! I love this for Detroit!

Went back to vecino and the food and service continues to live up to its amazing status.

Mocktail agave

Vecino was a great spot for a private event. The drinks were on point and I ordered a mocktail margarita that was excellent. They really took their time crafting each drink. The Mexican food was delicious and the chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful. There is a nice courtyard area in the back that is perfect for dining and fellowshipping. I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu and enjoy the full dining experience.

How's the parking situation?

There is lots of street parking on Third and also on Alexandrine. It's kind of nice to walk a block, in that area.

Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

There's artwork, a skatepark, renovated houses, gardens and a church that is now an art gallery. We stopped in to check it out and sat at the bar for a cocktail and snack. The waitstaff were super helpful in explaining everything and we finally picked 2 apps and got drinks. Both were amazing. There were friendly patrons all around and we chatted with other bar admirers. We checked out the coffee shop, Warda, but didn't purchase anything then, but have had several of their desserts since then and they did not disappoint. The atmosphere is wonderful, indoor/outdoor bar, great outside seating - not sure how this will work in the winter? They also have very pretty stone paths with multicolor stones mixed in for a very peaceful beautiful look. It inspired me to add some multicolored stones to my garden! I can't wait to return.

The music hits, the crowd is always lively, and it just feels like summer no matter what time of year it is. Whether you're stopping by before hitting another spot or making it your main destination for the night, The Skip always delivers. Now let's talk drinks -- because they do not play around. The Long Islands are ON POINT. Strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Not watered down, not overly sweet -- just right. You definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth, and they're dangerously easy to sip. I love the overall vibe here. It's social, upbeat, and perfect for hanging with friends. If you want good music, great drinks, and a guaranteed good time, The Skip should absolutely be on your list. This is one of those places you go once... and then it becomes part of your regular rotation.

We made reservations in a weekend but it wasn't necessary at 5. What I didn't know what this theme is a pop up much like Miracle Bar around Christmas. The mugs are not really made for The Skip and can be found online for less. Most importantly is the drinks are not good. They're not spirit forward, they're full of mixers. Such a bummer because they do make good cocktails occasionally. We were one and done this evening due to the bad drinks and loads of people who brought their kids to this bar. The decor is great. Service is attentive and friendly. Not in a rush to return.

I was very pleasantly surprised! The space is beautiful, classy, and airy. We sat at the bar and had a nice chat -- the music was at a good volume. I only ordered wine -- their wine list is alright. Not bad for a bar that's clearly not wine-focused. My wife and a friend had cocktails and they both were good, particularly their espresso martini. For food, we shared patatas bravas, tortilla española, and croquetas de jamon, and they were all delicious. I'd legit come back for a full dinner. My only reason to not give this 5 stars is the drink service was very slow, even though the place wasn't busy. The two bartenders seemed friendly enough but weren't communicating very well, and kept forgetting to take and/or bring our orders. We also asked for the check and they kept forgetting to bring it until we asked again. Overall, it was a positive experience and a nice surprise, but I hope the odd bar service was just a one-off blip.

They could have been upfront about this, but our waiter didn't tell us until after bringing us drinks, letting us see the menus, and after he started to take our orders. We essentially had to ask---what *do* you have? One pet peeve of mine is that they give everyone low ball glasses for water with no ice and a single, narrow carafe of water for the entire table. We had to continuously ask for more water. I tried the espresso no-tini ($11), a mocktail. It was good, but came in cordial glass and was essentially just a shot of chilled espresso. The setas ($14) were listed as a local wild mushroom blend with garlic and lemon. It was probably about a half cup of mushrooms, grilled, and served in a saucer. Finally, the charcuterie y queso ($21) was meat, cheese, sourdough, mustard, pickles, and honey. Everything was very salty and with no variation. It needed balance with a soft cheese, spice, or more sweetness. My charcuterie plate didn't come out until about an hour plus after we ordered, after multiple asks. It's hard to justify the delay when it's just hard cheese and meat, they didn't have to cook, and there were few other customers. (Essentially, we forgot). I still had a wonderful time with my friends in a beautiful space, but I wouldn't come here to eat again. The menu is elaboratey described dishes that come in very small portions and with ingredients that don't live up to the names.
