I've come here a few times now, and I keep coming back so that tells you something. This visit was right around their 1 year anniversary. A lot of places lose their mojo after the first year, food slips, menu goes stale. Not here. They keep adding new items and keeping the good ones around. This time I got the Mole Enchiladas and they were bombdotcom. Only thing is I wasn't paying attention and they're just cheese inside. I was expecting chicken. If they made chicken an option this would easily be a top 3 order for me. The unique take on traditional tacos is still one of the strongest things on the menu. The backyard asada and the Otro Nivel are still worth ordering a year later. And the specialty aguas frescas always hit the spot, there's a new concoction every time I show up. Service is attentive every time, even when they're slammed.
We were in Motor city and decided to try out this place since we were around. We were seated immediately and got our drinks. They gave us home made salsa with "rines". Once we ordered they brought us 3 different salsas. They were spicy and nothing out of the ordinary. The only one I would say I'd never tasted was the one made with beans. I got the tacos gobernador and they were delicious, the tortilla was great. My wife ordered the backyard tacos and they were pretty good. My son had the LGando tacos and he liked them. The only opportunity they have is their service. Even though when we arrived there were a few tables busy our waiter seemed to be overwhelmed as they gossip a lot among themselves. I guess we were lucky that we beat the 6pm rush hour. Otherwise probably it would've been a longer wait. They have pop music in the background. Simply gourmet tacos that don't overachieve other local Mexican joints. It is worth at least a try so you can decide on your own.
Love this Real family establishment. We were greeted by a Young man" very warmly. He asked if we had reservations. We did and asked if we had a preference. This was done after making sure all empty seating areas were clean Casual dining No alcohol Good Food. Appreciated that the waitress offered excellent suggestions that aligned with what we " could eat" Waitress suggested 2 of her favorites and that we then share plates 1 small little note Attention to restroom would have made this 100% Food was excellent and Authentic so I chose to not lower rating
Fairly new establishment, located in Southwest Detroit. Quaint and cozy inside. The complementary chips and salsa were delicious, as well as the backyard Asada and Quesa Birria. Probably one of the best we've had in this area. We waited around 40 minutes for our two simple meals to be delivered to our table. Unfortunately, the owner has now decided to do catering, and it has interfered with the dining room service wait times. We will definitely order again, but next time I think we will do carryout!
Okay y'all. This place is perfection. The service makes you feel like you are going to Abuela's house. All the staff were incredibly kind and sweet. Now let's talk food...reasonably priced, tangible flavors. We enjoyed the Ay! Papa tacos, Enchiladas Suisas, and the Birria Tacos. The guacamole is by far the best I have ever eaten and you get a ton of it. We still had some for the tacos. They offer a plate of 3 sauces but our favorite was one that had like a green chile flavor. We didn't do dessert because we were way full! Lol. Lastly, it is a small restaurant! You will need reservations. Don't just show up or you won't get a seat. Cute decor. Very clean. Our only thing was the water cups are a tin mug with a ring that moves. It made me consider if it's possible to get everything out from under the unsealed ring. BUT this does not deter us from our experience and will be back!
Tacos Wuey opened its doors in July 2025. Prior to dining in, I was intrigued by the menu. Chef Eddie Vargas put together a collection of fusion dishes you're not likely to find elsewhere. Rather than traditional tortilla chips, meals start with flour chicharrones. The salsa they came with had some kick to it. The birria egg roll appetizer was too enticing to pass up. They were a bit dry, but the arugula and consommé they were served with complemented them well. The spaghetti verde con milanesa was another dish I had to try. This pasta dish features a pablano-based sauce and is topped with fried chicken cutlets. The sauce was mild, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. I also tried 4 different tacos, ranked below: 1. Birria 2. Carne Asada 3. Milanesa 4. Orejón (pig ears) For dessert, I ordered flan. It was simple, but had a nice presentation. Using caramel, Chef Eddie signed his initials on the plate, and topped the flan with a piece of caramel bark. There are numerous quality Mexican restaurants in the Metro Detroit area, but few offer a menu as unique as Tacos Wuey. My first experience here was enjoyable, and I'm confident my next visit will be even better.
Great new addition to the metro Detroit food scene! It very much feels like a taqueria in Mexico -- nothing fancy but warm and inviting. The staff is super friendly and the service is quick. The food was delicious. I split the queso fundido and guacamole with some friends and both went fast. I ordered 4 tacos. The Birria tacos might be some of the best in town. And the Ay Papa! were good but not as noteworthy. The owner/chef came by to chat with us and he seemed really nice and genuine -- definitely the type of person that's easy to support. Will definitely be back!
Came for brunch with my two girls. We enjoyed Birria tacos, Pozole and the asada tacos. Our meals were prepared with fresh ingredients and obvious care- all delicious if not a little under seasoned (a little salt notched up the pozole and tacos). A spicy salsa option would be nice for the asada tacos- but yum quality still and the nopales cooked perfectly! pozole could have used a little cilantro and raw diced onion garnish but we enjoyed it all and will come back for the dinner menu. The dressed tostadas for the pozole hit the spot! Cafe de olla was fragrant and boldly seasoned with cinnamon. Tasted decadent, almost sweet and earthy yummy.
Tacos Wuey is not your typical taco spot. The menu has an upscale twist that sets it apart, with creative and flavorful tacos that taste like something straight out of a fine dining experience. I've been a handful of times since it opened just a few months ago! One of my absolute favorites is the Molcajete. It is rich, full of flavor, and easily one of the best I have ever had. The aguas frescas are also amazing, each made with a fun twist that keeps things refreshing and unique. The ambiance is great, stylish yet comfortable, and perfect for a cute date night or a fun evening with friends. There is parking in the back, which makes it super convenient. The owner also hosts monthly five course dinners, and every one I have tried has been delicious and beautifully presented. You can tell the chef puts real heart and creativity into every dish. If you want something different, flavorful, and full of good vibes, Tacos Wuey is the spot. Highly recommend supporting this small owned business!
Checked this place out randomly since I was in the area with friends. I really liked the barria tacos and they were able to make it without cilantro. The Milanesa tacos were okay, but not really something I'd order again. They gave us some samples of sauces. I really liked the jalapeño one. My friend really liked the fish tacos and the barria ramen was good too. Unfortunately the guacamole dip was lacking in seasoning so it was a bit bland. Our waitress/hostess was very nice and checked in on us a lot despite how busy it got. The place is small, but has cute decor and a decent amount of seating. I think they are probably a little pricey for the size of the tacos, but it was still not expensive.
Just WOW!!! From the moment you step into the space, you feel a feel a mixture of fun and cheeky plus traditional vibes decor. It's very modern but warm and inviting. The space is cozy, clean and every one is very friendly. I asked if I should get the tacos or the shrimp and I was advised to get the shrimp aka camarones. And holy moly!!!!!! This has to be one of the best meals I've had. The sauce was made to perfection, with the right amount of balance between the sweetness of the plantains and the savory taste of the rice and camarones. The colors were vibrant and perfectly presented in contrast with a dark green banana leaf on the plate. This meal made me feel like I was on vacation some were exotic. The restaurant doesn't have alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own. There's a liquor store just down the road. I highly recommend you trying the camarones with the plantains dish. It will leave you thinking about for days!
Was told by a local to try this place. Walked in and found they don't serve alcohol but I could buy it from a store across the street and bring it in. Brought in a Negra Modelo. Had guacamole which was good but lacked spice, lime and salt. Server brought items right away. Got Bierria and asada tacos. Both were good.
Restaurant capacity is 40. Multiple low tables. So much on the menu that I want to try. I have no choice but to go back. We were given a sampler of sauces, and all (but the bean) sauce were tasty (because I don't like beans, I didnt even try it.) We had decided on our order until Tina told us the special: "carne" something I believe My bf switched to that, and it looked and tasted glorious. He also ordered orejon (pig ears). I had expected them to be rubbery and flavorless. They were the complete opposite. They had flavor & the texture was a soft crispyness. I would definitely eat pig ears again! The horchata isn't watered down or overly sweet. I got camarones yucatecos and taco-l-gando. The rice & shrimp in the sauce were very well seasoned. The steak in the tacos were tender & well seasoned as well. I was offered tortillas with my plate but I declined bc I had 2 tacos to eat . I'm looking forward to my next trip to try something else!

BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOL which is kinda nice ! Nice ambiance! It gets loud in there but you can still hear conversations -reservations recommended but on a Saturday it was a 20 min wait w out one so pretty good. -Aguas frescas are refreshing -Service was nice! -food does take a little bit of time to come out -elote was good not spicy -steak was tender and cooked perfectly -the side of veggies w red sauce was so good -enchiladas could use more sauce than cheese -tacos were good -flan was good read more

If you are looking for fancy Mexican food, this is your place. If you are looking for a traditional taqueria, this is not the place for you. We got the quesabirria and the spaghetti verde con milanesa for our main courses and both were very tasty. As an appetizer we got the guacamole with pork belly chicharrón. The appetizer was not as good as the main course, and I would not purchase again. The chicharrón needed to be cooked more to have some sort of a crisp to it and the guacamole was lacking salt. My husband got the horchata to drink, which he really enjoyed, but felt there was more ice than horchata. For dessert we had the Dubai chocolate churros, which were really good. Service was great! The inside just had a standard look to it. Overall I personally would come back for the spaghetti verde con milanesa and the churros. read more

This place was in my radar for an over a month. The reviews are accurate. The appetizer, entree, and dessert was on point! Our waitress was friendly and helpful. We had a 5pm reservation and were seated immediately. I loved the horchata con cafe. My friend said that the hibiscus mango beverage was equally delicious. I can't wait to return read more

What a charming little spot! Starting with the salsa and chicharrones, to the specialty salsas brought to my table, the authentic music, and even my waitress singing along to the tunes. There was also a traditional ofrenda set up for the upcoming Día de los Muertos. Starting with the salsa, the main tomato-based one was medium heat, onion-forward, and truly flavorful. The server brought out two specialty salsas: one was a mango habanero, and the other was an avocado Serrano. Both were packed with flavor, mild in heat, and excellent on the pinwheels. I ordered the ribeye fajitas and was not disappointed. Imagine grilling a ribeye, slicing it thick for fajitas, then adding grilled vegetables and serving with pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, and sour cream. I would have preferred a bit more salt on the meat. I tried the churro cheesecake and was somewhat disappointed. It had an excellent presentation, but the "cheesecake" was dense and almost rubbery, and the "crust" was nearly bread-like. The only redeeming feature was that it had that cinnamon churro flavor. The presentations were all spectacular, the food was delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive. Definitely a must-try if you enjoy Mexican cuisine! read more

I really like this place and I really like their tacos and I really don't want you to come here so I don't have to wait in a line. It's a cali/mexico city taco kinda place not a grab and go taco place with just the basics. It's fancy good tacos. I hope I painted a good picture. Cheers to tacos and their makers! read more

We visited Tacos Wuey recently, and while the establishment is quite small with limited parking, we found the culinary experience to be unique and creative, departing from traditional Mexican cuisine in an enjoyable way. We particularly appreciated the innovative approach to Mexican food. The horchata with eggnog and jamaica with pickled pear drinks were absolutely delicious, though we suspect they may be seasonal offerings. The appetizer and main dishes we ordered were quite tasty, but we would have preferred to receive three tacos instead of two, as we found ourselves still a bit hungry. It does seem rather expensive to order more than three items from the menu. read more

Ch f Eddie Vargas has done it again, this small but quaint little hacienda has some of the most authentic Mexican food from His mothers hometown , you will be amazed at his home made salsas and Macha, and the service is spot on, waitresses are attentive and on the move, put this in your to do list, you won't regret going ... and I know you will be back!! read more

Tacos Wuey is a little different. Some traditional Mexican flavors but with a twist. The dining room has a minimalist, yet comfortable vibe - tables with a couple of booths, clean lighting, and a moustache motif adorns the walls. The staff was very pleasant, even if a bit slow with orders. The food makes up for it with complex and creative flavors in recognizable dishes (tacos, ramen). read more
