Last week, Jay drove me home after diagnosing a malfunctioning coolant pump. While driving my car back to the shop, another driver backed into the car ( my gorgeous 17 year old Jag XKR Convertible) causing damage to the front end. Jay obtained a police report, took photos, got the other driver to admit fault and came to an amicable agreement on payment, found a repair shop and obtained an estimate, coordinated with the other driver's insurance company, went to the Westport Police Station and purchased a copy of the accident report, had the car repaired and completed the original coolant pump work. End to end, less than a week and I was kept fully in the loop all the way along. No extra or unexpected charges either. Pretty unusual don't you think? Give these guys your work, they deserve it!

Now they service all foreign and domestic makes and models. Dave, the owner, has been in the business for years and he is a stand-up guy. He used to be the shop foreman and now he owns the place. Not only do they do good work here, a major perk for commuters is that it's literally 20 feet from the Westport Metro North station. The last time something went wrong with my car, I ended up on the side of the road and AAA had to tow it in. I was prepared for the worst. But it turned out just to be a $3.00 fuse. I admit, I'm a bit of a pessimist, but I would gamble that most shops, especially those in the NYC area, might seize the opportunity to take the customer for a real ride. But Dave changed out the fuse and didn't even charge me the $3.00! Or a dime for labor for trouble-shooting, I might add. Highly recommended!

I was extremely impressed by this place. My family was driving through on a road trip in our full…read moresized old Chevy van. I'm a mechanic myself from NY, and I had done a bunch of repairs on the van not long before I left home...but was feeling kind of a front end "wobble" that got me nervous especially with little kids in the van. I'm not used to going to a mechanic as I do everything myself but we were stuck and I was nervous so I pulled in to this place and explained the situation and asked if they could please check it out for me. At first Nina behind the counter said that they were booked and I would need to leave it there, but when I explained we were traveling and asked if they could take a quick look, she agreed. They had their head technician Germain look at the van. He put it up on the lift and carefully looked it over. I was expecting a five minute thing, but no. He had it up there for probably like twenty minutes. Didn't find anything loose or anything like that, so he took off every single lug nut (all 32 of them on that vehicle) and retorqued them properly. Also checked and adjusted tire pressures. Basically did a thorough lookover and did not cut corners. I even saw him putting tire stem caps on the tires that didn't have them! Nobody bothers with that...lol. I was figuring that they would probably charge me a full diagnostic fee of $100 bucks or more, but I figured safety is worth it. Then Germain went with me on like a 10-15 minute test drive in the van to make sure all seemed good. I could not believe how much time he actually put in to it, and didn't act rushed or impatient. He is a true professional. He normally specializes in performance mods and all that, but it wasn't "beneath him" to look over a big old Chevy van. When I got back, I asked Kas (who seemed to be the manager) how much I owed them, and he said hey we didn't actually do anything, don't worry about it. I couldn't believe it because these guys tied up their bay and gave their head mechanic over for like 45 minutes and didn't even charge a penny! Not to mention the fact that they found the time to get us in there in the first place. We were able to continue our trip safely. Would definitely recommend! Thanks again to Nina, Kas, and Germain!!

Few weeks ago I went to Fetzer Tire in Southport . I asked the counter man how much is a rotation…read moreand balancing ,for my car. He said $85 . A few days later I made an appointment to get the rotation and balancing done . I go in at 8:00 AM the owners son asked me if he can help me so I say yes I'm here for a rotation and balance . He fills out the work order . I tell the employee who takes the car in don't bother with checking the tire pressure I've already done that. The cars done I pay about $89 with tax and leave . A day or two later I see a valve stem cover missing from the passenger side front tire . Maybe it fell off, not likely but possible . I go around the car and check the other 3 valve stem covers to find all three had to be tightened 1 1/2 turns to snug then up . I buy 4 new matching covers on Amazon for almost $6 , no big deal. About a week goes by and the service tire monitor light goes on , it happens . Sept 29, 2013 I go to Fetzer Tire and tell the owners son my experience , he had no reaction . He says we only balanced your tires . I said I asked for rotation and balancing he pulls the work order and it states balancing only . I'm mystified after asking or telling 3 employees rotation and balancing the rotation wasn't done .Its standard procedure to do both at the same time especially when you have the tires off the car already .I say lets get beyond this its not that important lets get on to fixing the tire monitor how much to put in a new tire pressure monitor . Howie says $125 . Asked if I need an appointment he said no just come in . I said OK. No I'm sorry for the misunderstanding , no here's $5 for the new valve stem cover . On the way home I'm asking myself do I really want to go back there since I got not even I'm sorry , maybe not . The only thing I got was the monitor is $125 each not for all four. I had the tire pressure monitor done today Sept 30, 2026 of $75 , so one call and I saved $50 and have more confidence in the new tire shop I tried today .
