I've been going to this office for many years and Dr Hoglan is very accurate with my eyeglasses and my contact lens prescriptions. My visits are always very pleasant and the office staff especially David is very helpful, friendly and thorough. I've recommended several of my friends and relatives who have all been very pleased and have also had great experiences with Dr Hoglan, David and the other staff members. read more

Dr. Hoglan is the ONLY doctor that has been able to handle me and my extreme aversion to people touching my eyes. How he manages to put drops in my eyes every time I go see him is beyond me. You know that episode of Friends when Rachel does everything to avoid getting her eyes examined? That's me. I will always have Dr. Hoglan as my optometrist until he retires or I leave the state. read more

Eye exam is good and efficient. The front desk is so incredibly slow that I can't in good faith recommend this place. With no one else here, you can expect things to take a minimum of 1 hour (in our case, we waited 1 hour and 20 minutes before being able to fill out paperwork for our lens and frames; we had previously done the eye exam which was another hour and 15 minutes of waiting, not counting the eye exam itself). Front desk also prioritized helping someone who came in later than us. Not coming back again. read more

I went to this place for eye exam and have stated I needed to go back to work right away so I don't want to dilate my pupils, Vaughn says don't worry it will be just 20 min, after 10 min I believe my pupils hasn't even dilated yet he quickly take a look and everything is fine. I then could not see after 40 min, I went back and ask him he says just a uber! What's the problem?? I cannot express how I feel about this place. I googled this your pupils will take min of 2-4 hours to recover! Why couldn't he tell me after I tell him I have to get back to work!! I don't recommend to come here! read more

Dr.Hoglan helped me get my first pair of glasses when I was thirteen years old and in middle school. He's been my optometrist for at least nine years and he is brilliant at what he does. He has a very calming voice and manner which makes getting an eye exam almost therapeutic. If you need to get a pair of glasses he's a very good choice. read more

Dr. Hoglan is excellent as a doctor when it comes to exams. However, I had the absolute worst experience ordering lenses through him. He must be using the worst lens lab in US; they're totally incompetent. I placed an order for my lenses to go with my own frame. They told me it was going to take 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I had another pair of glasses that were 4 years old that I could wear and I figured what the heck, I can manage for 2 weeks with that old pair. Two weeks later -- no glasses. I asked Dr's office to call the lab and they replied that their coating did not pass inspection and they will redo it. A week later, still no glasses. Dr Hoglan's office called the lab again and they said they still were not successful at making the coating. At that point, I told the office that I needed my old glasses back since I had to go on vacation soon. I asked that they should cancel my order and ship my glasses back overnight. It took another week until I got my old glasses back! During this time, I was calling Dr Hoglan's office almost every day. Each time they were telling me the glasses had been shipped; they were on their way; but yet it took another week before I actually got them back. I had asked for the phone number of the lab so I could call their customer service to find out what's going on, but the Dr's office would not give it to me, saying they needed somebody's permission. Overall, this was the WORST experience I had ever had ordering my glass. The lab that Dr Hoglan is using is totally incompetent. If you want use Dr Hoglan to get exam and prescription, that's fine, but don't order any lenses from him until he changes labs. read more

Dr Hoglan is really professional and nice. And so is David! I went to the store nearly 5:50 pm but Dr Hoglan and David were still so kind to provide services for me, including doing an exam as well as selecting frames. I really appreciate it! Actually it is one of my friend refers this store to me. I will definitely refer it to my other friends. read more

Dr. Hoglan maintains high standards! I made an appointment for 10 AM on Saturday. I was warmly greeted by the front office staff. They had all the necessary paperwork ready along with the insurance information. They guided me through the different benefits I could avail of as part of my insurance plan. Dr. Hoglan was methodical and meticulous as always. He has a great ability to put patients at ease and I was very happy! Thank you Doc :) read more

Dr. Hoglan is pretty good with his work, but getting glasses made from here could be tricky. I got my spectacles on time, but they has a bad scratch on them. When I pointed it out, the person behind the desk (an old gentleman, who was not the doctor), told me its dust due to the lenses being cut. He took them inside , probably put some kind of polish on the frame and came back. The scratches did look a bit less scary but were still there. I did not want to create a mess, and the frames fit me just fine so I walked off. I'd suggest get your prescriptions from here but get your frames and lenses made at some other place you trust. read more

Doctor Vaughn Hoglan is very professional and thorough with the eye exam. He also does contact lens fitting and if you're first time wearing contact lens, one of the staff will walk you through how to handle thr contact lense. Staff is helpful in answering all your questions and helping you with selection of frames and lens options. I always feel so welcomed here because of their friendliness and services. Their services are great and I was very pleased leaving the office. read more

This shop sells trash frames for glasses which break within 3 months of procurement not once but twice. When asked why don't they keep expensive frames which are more durable, they say no one buys them so why keep them. When you go for getting a replacement for your cracked frames, they make excuses like "I could not find your frame model within store and need to re-order them to replenish my stock." When you call them after 2 weeks, they make further excuses like "The storage unit could not find your specific frame model and are still looking. Can you check back later ? " So you judge for yourself why is my frame so special and why it suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth. read more

Scam Scam Scam. I read some Yelp reviews before calling this place, thinking I simply need a yearly free routinal eye exam, so what could go wrong? So I went for the appt but ended up paying $138 (!!!!) for an extra eye exam I didn't ask to take (but felt very embedded into the normal process) ! Context: When I called to book the appt, I specifically mentioned I needed a yearly routinal eye exam. When I arrived, the guy at the front desk asked for our names, and confirmed that we're there for the eye exam appt. Since I was wearing contact lenses, I asked if I should remove them. The guy said that I didn't have to remove them for the exam yet. In my mind, I thought perhaps due to COVID, they are allowing me to wash my hands later and remove them in the exam room. I filled out some standard forms and proceeded to the exam room. I asked the doctor again if I should remove my contact lenses. The doctor said no, not yet. He proceeded in doing the eye exam with my contact lenses on that lasted for 2 mins. Then he asked me to take them off and proceeded with the long routine (with eye dilation and puff of air into the eye). When I finished the exam and I'm ready to pay for my next batch of contact lenses, I was suddenly given a bill of $180, with $138 coming from a contact lense exam?!? WTF. I immediately expressed how I didn't ask to have this additional exam, however the guy simply said how I have a bad vision insurance, and to ask my employer to provide a better one (jokingly of course). But the problem is not my insurance. IT'S THE FACT THAT I DIDN'T ASK FOR THE ADDITIONAL EXAM!!! I just wanted a simple yearly eye check, and I got scammed and tricked to get this additional 2 mins exam that costed me $138. The person on the phone and the front desk guy never mentioned this additional exam OR cost. And I've explicitly said I just needed the routinal exam. The guy then jokingly said "you ate the steak already" so I had to pay now. Needless to say, I'll never return there again and don't recommend this place. TOTAL SCAM, please beware! read more

I took my 92 year old friend for new glasses. We didn't have the exam here so we only dealt with David. David was extremely helpful. The whole exchange, start to finish was exceptional. He treated my friend with respect and made many suggestions. When he couldn't find the right lens size we opted to use her original frames and just have new lenses placed. When we went to pick up the glasses 5 days later. David greeted my friend by name and again gave us exceptional service. We would definately come back. read more

My entire family and I have seen Dr. Hoglan for at least the past 8 years. He and David are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. I would absolutely recommend this practice to anyone looking for a great eye doctor! read more

Excellent very professional doctor. Receptionist was very nice and got me in same day for an eye exam... and I came in at 3PM!! The office is neat and clean and very professional. My contacts fit great and I can see clearly now! I'm going to this doctor from now on!! read more

The rating here is off. The doctor couldn't do a proper eye exam for me. I'm upset because I paid for my eye exam but now I have to see a different optometrist. The prescription I received for contacts were not accurate. A week after the exam, I tried the new contacts and noticed that I couldn't see at all with the new trial lenses. So I went back for a re-examination and brought my old prescription. After the eye exam, he said my vision has actually remained the same and the new prescription is too strong. So he just gave me the prescription of my old lenses which is a HUGE JUMP in prescription. I explained to him my concern, that I know my vision had changed slightly since I can't see well with my old glasses. And how his first prescription was a big jump from my previous one. But he just tells me to go see an eye doctor if I'm concerned about my vision. This is an incompetent optometrist and I suggest everyone to avoid this place. This was a unique and extremely frustrating experience. read more

Dr. Hoglan was friendly and did a good job. However not impressed with the front desk operations though they were friendly. One or two girls doing everything from the reception desk. They called in to my insurance company for authorization reading aloud my birth date, ssn, and address for everyone to hear. So much for privacy. The glasses are very expensive, twice as much as my previous doctor and sadly the prescription was not correct but the front desk when I called said it would take time to get use to them. Really. I just wanted a second pair, one I have from last year my vision reading is very clear but the new set blurred. Get use to it? Yeah, right. read more

We wish we had read the yelp reviews before placing the order for lenses to go with our frames, but it's too late now. If I were to review Dr. Hoglan only, I would give the review a FIVE STAR. He is a great doctor who took him time to do the exams ad check our glasses. He is very amiable and a patient listener. It was a very pleasing experience visiting him to check our eyes - we'll definitely visit him again. However, when it comes to ordering glasses, it a totally different experience. We ordered our lenses for the glasses (to go with our own frames) on last week of December. We were told that it usually takes a week to get the glasses back, but at this time of the year, it would take two week. Once it was past two weeks, we called to check if the glasses were back. The person who responded to the call said that the glasses weren't ready yet. We were told that we would receive a call from them once they have the glasses. Two days later we called again - one of the glasses were actually ready, but we didn't receive any call from them letting us know so. It was only after calling up ourselves that we came to know that one pair was ready. After searching, they couldn't find the other pair, and informed that it must not have been ready yet. Now it is past three weeks, and no update is available on the remaining pair. THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING!! When you pay a few hundred dollars per pair of lenses (not even the frame) and make your payment on time, you expect the other party to stick to their words as well. Apparently, that is not the case here. So lesson learned for us - we'll visit the doctor again, but wouldn't make the mistake of ordering our glasses here. read more

This office is in violation of HIPAA regulation. I have been going to this place for a few years, everything was going well with my vision. Then a few months ago I started having vision problems, and went to consult an ophthalmologist. The ophtalmologist asked for my eye health history from my optometrist, but Mr Hoglan's staff repeatedly refused to send a copy of my file to the ophtalmologist. I showed up in person and was told that they do not release the file if the prescription is expired. It is true that we cannot buy glasses or contact lenses if the prescription is older than one year, however, we still have a right to our medical history. I explained that all the medical data that is collected during exams (optometrist dilates the pupils, does multiple tests to look for glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, etc) goes far beyond just the prescription, and that this medical data belongs to the patient, and they are obligated under the law to release medical data to patients upon request. The man at the front desk was very rude, said that they don't release people's medical data if the prescription is expired, and asked me to leave in a very mean and disrespectful way. I told him politely, without raising my voice (unlike him, who was shouting) that I was legally entitled to my medical file. It is shocking that this man, who has been working there for years, was completely ignorant of patients' rights per HIPAA regulation. He kept asking me to leave and even called the police. So now I have to file a complaint to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This office will learn that there are fines that come with HIPAA violations! read more

Are you kidding me about the 5 star reviews for the jokers he has on his staff. I went in for a routine eye exam. And didnt hear back from the office about my glasses for 3 weeks. Called them and the guy on the phone says "there was a manufacturing defect and it was sent back. So, wait for a few weeks more" No "sorry for the delay", no calls to tell me about the delay etc. 3-4 weeks pass by and I call them back after not hearing from them. This time the girl answering the phone says "oh yeah-they have been waiting to be picked up for a few weeks"!! WTF-Heard of a frigging phone call or customer service!! fyi, I went to "Site for sore eyes" in Vallco for my next pair. Delivered in less than 10 hrs. And yes-they called me to let me know it was ready to be picked up :) read more

Ode to the DMV - First off I love this place Great doctor with a big heart, caring staff and a no BS approach to eye care. I went to the local DMV because my license had expired. When I stood at the counter I seemed to have failed the eye chart exam. Old age has nothing to do with this (well maybe a little), I called Dr, Vaughns office explained my situation and asked when the next available appointment I could make would be, He asked if I could come the next day. Upon my arrival I was greeted by a courteous staff and was given a basic easy to read form to fill out. I was seen within 10 minutes of my arrival. I received a thorough exam and was told my eye site was declining with age and that to pass I would need glasses for my DMV test, Fearing the worst I asked how quickly I could have a pair made. Dr, Vaughn directed the girls at the front to show me some plastic frames, He had quite a large selection so I tried on about 7 or 8 I thought would look good in and had the office staff help me decide, We found a really nice pair that looked perfect for my face. The doctor cuts lenses in house and he had blanks in my prescription available. He asked if I could come back in an hour so off to the sandwich shop I trotted. Less than an hour later I had new glasses at a great price that my best friend loves. ( 2 huge thumbs up ). I passed my vision test with flying colors and am now a CDL carrying member of society. I am a happy camper !!!!! I whole heartedly recommend them - the DMV on the other hand ........... read more

I have been seeing Dr. Hoglan since I was 14 years old. 31 years later, I am still his faithful patient. I moved to Morgan Hill but it does not prevent me from coming to see him very year. I have been going to Dr Hoglan for the eye exam since 2006. His exam is always very thorough and great bedside manner - very easy to discuss and address any concern with him. We moved 30 miles away few years back and tried a different eye doctor, who is nothing compared to Dr Hoglan. The exam at that place made me feel like dealing with a salesperson on eye products, and the prescription gave me headache on both glasses and contact lens. We switched back to Dr Hoglan right away even It means i need to commute to see him. But a good eye doctor is priceless. I have ordered glasses from him twice, and both times the glasses are flawless - no scratch, no headache. (So I didn't really run into the problem others had.) I just had the exam last week with Dr Hoglan. Then I realize I had never left any review for his practice. But the service has been pretty consistent with him, and I will continue to come back to him for the exam. read more

My wife and I visited Dr. Vaughn Hoglan because I had lost my glasses. We found that he was very highly rated on the VSP website. He did an amazing job on my prescription and I can see better now than I have ever been able to see. When Dr. Hoglan discovered that I had lost my glasses he immediately had the optician make me a new pair in his own lab in twenty minutes rather than make me wait 7 to 10 days to get the job done through my insurance company's lab. He treats his patients like family members. I really recommend Dr. Hoglan. read more

I actually liked Dr. Vaughn Hoglan. He was professional and courteous and does not come off judgmental or superior like some other doctors I've had in the past. The big problem came when I was about to pay and just get my prescription. The man at the front desk went over my insurance with me and told me that I can be covered under both my primary and supplemental vision insurances. I was slightly surprised since it was different from my own research, so I went with my original plan of simply getting my eye exam there and get my glasses from Costco. When he realized that I did not intend to buy eyeglasses from them his tone turned very snarky. Since I only just learned that even my primary health insurance gives me coverage, I didn't know what, if any, of my eyeglasses would be covered by that insurance. He made zero attempt in trying to explain to me what my benefits are in terms of purchasing eyeglasses. Instead, for over 5 minutes while he was charging my credit card for the co-pay and writing up my prescription, I only received jabbing snide comments along with the chuckling, shaking the head, and letting out a big sigh, insinuating that I was stupid to not buy eyeglasses from them. If he would just be courteous and provide some real customer service, like suggesting calling my insurances to find out the details, or give me an example of how double insurance can benefit me, I would have seriously consider making my purchase there. I also found out after calling up both of my insurances that one of them has a $10 copay and the other a $5 copay. Guess what, he charged me $10. Now out of principle, I clearly will never step foot inside that place again. read more

Don't know how this place stays in business because this is the 2nd time they gave me a hard time. The first time, they ordered the wrong contacts. Dr. Hoglan is very good. His exam is thorough, he provides excellent commentary on what's going on, and his prescription was accurate. The reason I'm reviewing his practice 3 stars is because I recommend you not buy glasses there. I purchased new frames and lenses. The lenses were fine, but after 6 weeks the frames broke. The temple (the bit that rests on the ear) fell off in my hands as I took the glasses off. The hinge part had detached from the end piece taking the screws and mounts with it. Clearly faulty manufacturing. They refused to fix or replace it and informed me they provide no warranty at all. I checked with my previous optometrist and they give a 1 year warranty on the frames. So, see Dr. Hoglan, but take you prescription and frame business elsewhere. [Update: I got a call from Dr. Hoglan about an hour after I posted this review. Seems like the lady I spoke to on the phone was a temp and unfamiliar with their normal procedures. Dr. Hoglan is providing a new frame and lenses for no additional charge. I've bumped up my review rating accordingly.] read more

The first thing you notice when you walk in this store is a large array of glasses, covering nearly the entire store. Their availability of finding many nice frames within my insurance was impressive. The saleswoman was very helpful too. Within a short time my eyes were measured and I picked out my glasses. They arrived within a week and were very well made. The only drawback is that they do not provide a year's warranty on the frames, as do other optometrists. Their policy is that as you walk out the door with your new glasses, you are responsible for whatever may come your way. If you have your eyes examined elsewhere you are responsible for taking your new glasses back to your optometrist, who examined your eyes, to check on the prescription. After doing my research, they provided better pricing than other stores, excellent service, and an excellent product, with frames in my insurance plan. This store is on the lower end. Just shows that the lower range is more accurate since last year my glasses cost 250.00 in southern California, and I was not about to pay 400.00 for a new pair of glasses. Do your research. Many online glasses websites have complaints. And by the time you return them, and expect a refund, it's up to them if you deserve it. Not worth it to pay fed ex for that, unless you wear single vision, and use glasses USA. They have the least issues. read more

I have visited Dr. Vaughn Hoglan office 2 months back for regular eye check up and he suggested that my eyesight has been approved and recommended 2 new pair of glasses one for foresightedness and other for short. I asked reason he said you require since your eyes wont be adapting one pair. I got the new pair after using new pair I was getting hell pain in my eyes. I complained doctor he said it would be because of wrong lens, he got it replaced but still I was getting same pain in my eyes. I went again and he said that it is for some other reason . I told doctor that I am more comfortable without glasses than the new pair. He said then stop using it. I feel he cheated me just to get a glasses made from his shop.
