I have used this place for vison tests in the past. It used to be good, but a recent visit showed the precipitous fall in its quality and ethics. Due to greed they are carrying out fraudulent practices. I am writing this review so that future patients do not waste their money on un-necessary procedures. The truth of this business is that they are making money by fooling the public. Below is the full story. If they say retinal test is part of their basic eye exams do not fall for it. Recently, I got an appointment for a vision test. In previous years a routine eye exam used to be $10 copay with my insurance (VSP). I have never selected the extra retinal screening test (not covered by VSP). This time the appointment email said "Glasses Eye Exam with Retinal Screening: With your vision plan: $49 copay with retinal photos." I emailed back asking the fee for eye exam without retinal photos. Reply said "Your routine eye exam is a $10 copay. Retinal photos are $39 copay." So, I thought I can do the routine eye exam for $10 copay. By combining the 2 fees they try to trick you as if both tests are necessary. On the day of the appointment I told the person (white female) at the front desk that I need just a routine eye exam. She told me I cannot get just an eye exam with $10 co-pay. I told her I have done so in the past. She says it was by "courtesy". She was not employed there in my previous visits. So, she was just making up stories and was "trained" by the optometrist to handle un-comfortable questions in this way. I also showed my email in which I had received a reply from the place saying basic eye exam has a co-pay of $10. Still, she said I can get an eye test only if I combine it with retinal screening which cost extra $39 co-pay. She told me to go to another place if I want just eye exam (without retinal screening). I said I want to talk to the optometrist. She said the optometrist is busy, which seemed like a lie. The optometrist had come in to the facility through the door around my appointment time. So, she cannot be busy with something else. Basically, she was preventing me by all means from meeting and talking to the optometrist to discuss about the test option. She was very rude (probably racist too) and threatened me saying she will call the cops. Then I told her to cancel the appointments and left. A few minutes later I called the place and said I want to talk to the optometrist. She said the optometrist is busy. I said I want to leave a recorded message, but she did not allow that either. It seems like if patients talk directly with the optometrist and are provided false information this could probably affect her optometry license. Later that week, I called my insurance provider and they told me that retinal screening is an extra service and is not mandatory. That is why they do not cover it. Instead, there is a free alternative of dilating the pupil to check the retina. This place is misleading people and charge extra for something that is not a mandatory test. I think the reason the front desk person was not letting me talk to the optometrist is, either she was lying about the need for the extra screening, or it is their official policy of making people pay for retinal screening. A few days later I emailed the place asking the optometrist to call me to know whether they have an official policy of making people pay for un-necessary tests. The optometrist did not call and instead emailed me back trying to ignore the real issue and tells me "It is clear that we are not a good fit for your visual needs and will not be able to schedule for an exam." and "We kindly request no further correspondence at our office." Apparently, until 2022 I was a perfect fit. Once I questioned her unethical practice she found me unfit for her services. I replied back to the email mentioning the real issues - the front desk white female providing wrong information, mistreating me and preventing me from talking to the optometrist to discuss my concerns. I also asked: Is a basic eye exam (without retinal screening) offered in this place? I did not get a reply. This business has been charging extra fee for un-necessary tests from many other patients by not giving an option of just a basic eye exam. I am considering reporting this business to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's consumer fraud office. Others should do as well. If you do not agree with their trick they will mistreat you and threaten you with arrest. A past Google review says "They force you pay co-pay for retinal scan". The optometrist's response was that she wants to provide "modernized" exams. Well, that should be a customer's choice whether to get retinal screening. Or do free test of dilating the pupil. In response to my review she questions my credibility says it is not in my real name. Well, one can always use a nick name. She cannot hide her lies and un-ethical behavior by such an excuse. Dr. Leung was very responsive after she noticed that the glasses was in fact really problematic and she helped me to analyze what could be the case. She said it may be because of the frame style that make the glass have a different distance from the eye. Dr. Leung helped us to switch to another eye frame . And, today when i got the pair. It finally works ! The nose pieces were not tilted! After 3 months! She did not charge me for switching the frame neither. I wish she said that at the first place so that i would know it is not going to cause extra and I actually have an option to switch the frame . I came in because my 2 week contacts were drying out quickly. I wanted to switch to dailies. The appointment was a reasonable distance from the original phone call. They were kind enough to take me in after normal hours on the follow up appointment. We did some tests and one of them was a cool retinal imaging device. If you were ever curious about the back of your eye, you can see it here. I told Lorina about my concerns, and she suggested that I put a warm compress on it everyday. She had a very thorough explanation for dry eye syndrome. It has somewhat helped, so I was grateful for the advice. She wasn't aggressive when she recommended a fish oil supplement brand, which was nice. I ended up with the dailies and was happy. Sure, she may speak brusquely, but I find it better than acting fake, which puts me off. I recommend coming here based on my experiences. read more

These reviews are clearly bogus, I can constantly here her and her staff mocking and taking about me and trying to upsell lenses and frames. They don't realize I can hear even with the door closed?? I don't feel comfortable about my eye health here. She spent almost no time checking my eyes. I was so nIce and thankful yet the staff was cold and rude. They weren't happy about my questions, kept changing the price, and the place was empty and weird and hard to find. I can hear them trying to come up with prices to charge me. If a business is transparent they shouldn't be mad over a question or two. So so unfriendly. Really ruined my day. I need a more reasonable doctor who has good manners. They also were not correct about how long the appointment would be. They also lied about the site that I buy contacts for. The site takes insurance! The lady was trying to sell me on buying from them and it was uncomfortable to be sold. just inform me kindly please! Just little things like her not telling me where to look when she flashed a light in my eye or suddenly putting glass near my eye without saying anything. She made the exam take just a minute or two and didn't do any of the protocol. And they didn't give me my contacts or glasses prescription....I had to ask for it! When has that ever been the norm? They charge more than other doctors, all insurance aside. I called and asked prices and they did not say $100, they said my insurance covered it and only $10 copay. I don't understand that! When I left with my shes dialated, they gave me no sun protection. Would've been nice. And maybe offer me water or just be polite of kind? And also talk to me during the eye exam about what is taking place. Also pushed certain brands on me, it would be great if all doctors released who they're being paid by. I didn't think much of it since it seemed like the place was rather new. Boy, let me tell you! I've never been examined by such a caring and gentle optometrist! Dr. Leung not only proved that she had a really nice and caring nature but she was also very knowledgeable. I was in an out in no time! This practice is awesome. I went in for an Annual Check-up - the entire process leading up to it was awesome I emailed in my appointment request (really should get on zoc doc or something..) but anyways, I got the appointment all squared up. I got a reminder 3-4 days in advance. I also appreciated that they did Saturday appointments - something that was super hard to find in a few other places nearby. When I arrived on site (about 10 mins in advance), all my paper work was ready, all I had to do is fill out a few forms. They also had a little card that I had to fill out for my appointment next year (I thought that was really clever - imagine getting a note from yourself as a reminder - epic!). The check-up itself was thorough - peripheral test, vision checkup and dilation. Lorina was knowledgeable, took the time to answer all my questions. She also made sure that I left with some disposable eye protection since I left my sun glasses at home and it would've been impossible to drive with my eye dilated. The staff was knowledgeable about insurance and knew the exact coverages. Some other places will either pretend to not be aware of the coverages hoping that they can scam you out of a buck or two, but not here. They were direct, explained all the benefits clearly and allowed me to choose exactly what I wanted. And finally, I got my new set of glasses ordered through them. They did try to market and upsell the power options (uv coated lens, poycarbo this - polyurethane that..) but it didn't feel pushy at all. I warned them I would leave this review, but they still refused to take responsibility for all their mistakes. Because of them I lost 2 months and $110. I had to go see them ~10 times and still do not have glasses I can wear. This is a fair and honest review, so I will list the pros first: - Forthcoming about optional eye tests, no surprise fees - Not much wait time Now the problems: TL;DR version: Dr Leung seems incompetent, and if her eye tests and glasses have a problem, she's not even curious to know why. I came to Dr Leung because I cannot wear my glasses from 2017 anymore. The prescription is alright, but the frame is so deformed it doesn't stay up on my nose. I have to wear my old, outdated glasses from 2015. Dr Leung performed an eye test on me, and she also measured my 2017 glasses - she told me my prescription HADN'T CHANGED. I ordered glasses from her, but upon pick up I immediately told them my right eye wasn't seeing well. Joanna, the receptionist, told me it was probably because my new prescription was HIGHER and I was not used to it. Confused that their stories didn't add up, I checked my previous prescriptions and discovered that theirs was in fact LOWER than my 2017 Rx. For the right eye, it was even lower than my 2015 Rx (which is why I noticed). 2013: R -4.50 (-0.75) / L -4.75 (-0.25) 2015: R -4.50 (-1.00) / L -4.75 (-0.25) 2017: R -4.50 (-1.25) / L -5.50 (-0.50) 2019: R -4.50 (-0.75) / L -5.00 (-0.50) = Dr Leung = WRONG They agreed to a remake. I brought all my prescriptions with me. I expected them to try and understand how they measured BOTH my old glasses AND my vision WRONG (isn't it super concerning?). Dr Leung didn't offer to investigate. She hurriedly offered to remake the glasses using my 2017 prescription, since I had mentioned that it was fine. I was happy with that solution. 1-2 weeks later, I picked up the remade glasses. As soon as I got home, I noticed the bottom halves of my lenses were blurry. I tried them for a week but started to have severe eye strain and neck pain from constantly turning my chin down to look through the top part of the lenses when working, cooking, eating... My 2017 glasses do not have this problem at all - I've NEVER had this problem and I've worn glasses for 20 years. I asked for another remake. I explained to the best of my ability what I was observing - Dr Leung did not care to investigate and did not ask a single question. They simply sent the glasses back to the lab "to look at them". The lab apparently said everything was fine, but they still remade the glasses... using the exact same specs, and with the exact same problem. Immediately upon pick up, I told Dr Leung I could see the problem was not fixed. She didn't seem to care. After probing her, she mentioned it could be because of a different lens material, in which case the lab could do another free remake. I called my 2017 eye doctor to double check the material, index, prescription.. everything! I spent hours on the internet to find potential explanations (= doing Dr Leung's work, since she didn't seem interested in my problem). When I returned, they told me the lab actually would NOT remake the glasses for free and that she has a NO REFUND policy for lenses. They did not care that I paid $300 for glasses I can't use. They said it was a prescription problem and blamed me for it. For several days I phoned them and my insurance. On 2 occasions Joanna and Dr Leung told me that "they had customers and needed to hang up". I ended up going to see them and spent 1h talking with them. Dr Leung called my insurance to see if they would refund her for the lenses - because she doesn't mind wasting my money, but she was concerned about her profit margin. She hid in the back to make the phone call, but I heard her blame my 2017 prescription, as if THAT was the problem (which the insurance completely believed, and promptly repeated to me). Except it is HER who offered this solution rather than doing a second, correct eye test. Not to mention my 2017 glasses are perfectly fine!! The insurance told me: either find a solution with Dr Leung or send in a complaint which takes up to a MONTH! Dr Leung tried to get rid of me by saying I should wait for the complaint outcome and hope for the best ("that's insurance companies for you!"). But in the meantime, I'm stuck wearing 4-year-old glasses! I argued for so long she finally offered me a 50% refund on the out-of-pocket for the lenses. I agreed because I was fed up. But I told them it is not acceptable that I am STILL throwing away $110 when they made tons of mistakes and wasted 2months. I also don't like that she hid in the back a lot and let Joanna deal with me as best she could. She said no one could figure out the problem and that "she doesn't have the answers to everything". The problem is that she made absolutely ZERO personal effort to investigate. So she still won't have the answers for the next customer who has a problem. Pray it's not you! read more

I had a VSP plan to use, so I came to Vision Care to get a checkup and glasses. The staff were very friendly as advertised, and the eye exam went by pretty fast. There was plenty of time and opportunity to ask the Dr. questions, which I appreciated. Their frames are high quality, I eventually choose Banana Republic Frames, they are really lightweight and do not catch much dust compared to my old glasses. The staff were really nice when I needed to adjust my frames after the purchase. I'll come again next year to use my VSP. read more

I've always been happy with Dr. Lorina Leung and her staff; I've been going to this practice since two predecessors ago! Dr. Leung provides the same excellent medicine and support as did Dr. Brody and Dr. Statescu before her. I get a postcard and phone call a few weeks before my yearly appointment, a chance to change it, and a reminder email and call just before the appointment. When I come in, I'm in and out of there quickly after all required tests have been run. Dr. Leung is also good at getting me to keep my eyes open for the glaucoma test which avoids having to dilate my pupils. She's also found a tiny cataract and has been careful to watch its progress or lack thereof. Her staff has been a great help in selecting driving and computer glasses and giving me choices in cost, style and durability. I'm very pleased that I decided to go with the "indestructible" option on my driving glasses; now, I don't have to worry about what will happen if my dog sits on them. read more

i was originally going to go to another Dr but after reading reviews on here, i skipped that appointment. i came back here to find another Dr and found Dr. Leung's rating to be very high so i thought i would give it a try. i requested a Saturday appointment and had an e-mail within a few minutes confirming my appointment. i found her and her staff to be very efficient. Even the dreaded air puff test was not nearly as bad as other times i've had it done in the past. i did not have time to browse for glasses but when i asked for a copy of my prescription, she gave it to me with no hesitation. i have found my eye doctor. read more

The place was totally empty but they refused to open the door, until I called them to schedule an appointment. After making me wait until they have checked their schedule (again the place was empty). Once i came in they were unhelpful and rude, and they want me to pay $15 just to check the values on my existing glasses. It literally takes them a minute to do this. I had a great experience with Dr Lorina Leung, OD. I had a 2:00pm appointment and unlike my usual experience with my doctor and dentist, I arrived right at 2:00pm and was seen immediately. The assistant was welcoming and courteous, and expedient through the testing process yet I never felt rushed. Dr. Leung was very thorough with her explanations of her findings from my test results and took her time to answer all of my questions. I then was met with the assistant again who helped me pick out some new frames for my new glasses and I was out the door in just under 30 minutes. OMG! I took my three sons to see Dr. Leung. Let me just say, she's very courteous, friendly and patient, and the boys really liked her. My boys ranged in age from 7 to 11 and she had no problems with them. My youngest one needed some help because he couldn't sit as still at the autorefractor as his older brothers, but Dr. Leung and her staff managed just fine. The exams went well. I was in there with them and asked Dr. Lorina a range of questions about their eyesight and health. She asked if they had any problems at school, which might not be at first immediately attributable to poor eyesight which I found as a very astute question. Overall the boys' eye sights were fine. Can I leave less than one star? Dr. Leung has been a great doctor for me, and I have been a happy patient since 2013, until... I visited last Friday for my annual eye exam. The doctor checked my vision, and then dilated my pupils with eye drops. She then ran off while saying it would take ten minutes for my eyes to dilate and she would get help. The "help" that came back was her front desk asking me to make a financial decision about various options for my new Rx. I told her I was disoriented/ blind and uncomfortable and could not make the decision. She then told me that my exam would be $149 (2013 and 2014 I payed $99). I asked her to check on that for me , she came back and said the doctor would be willing to drop the exam fee to the $99 promotional rate if I purchased the new Rx lenses today. What?! Then, this happened... Upon checking out at the front desk receiving only my sales receipt, I had to ask for: (1) a copy of what my Rx changed to, (2) the options which we discussed for my new Rx. I had to ask because none of these items had been provided to me. The kicker to all of this is by the next day -Saturday, it felt like I had small fibers or hairs caught underneath both eyelids. By Monday my left eye was almost too painful to blink. Then the next morning it looked as if I had been in a bar room brawl. My left eyelid was red, glossy, swollen, and enlarged. I called into the office that morning but I got a message the office would be out through the 22nd. When the call came in today Thursday 23rd, I was told that to have my eye examined it would be a medical exam, and it would cost me $180. I may be wrong here but don't doctors take the Hippocratic Oath? An oath to do NO harm. Something happened to this office, what that THING might be I don't know but business must be tough if this sort of care is provided to the community. So, if you wish to have a bad day by being asked to hand over your money while you can't see who it is asking. Later you are okay with your knee caps feeling like they are going to shoot through the back of your knees while you are just sitting still. Don't forget you are also cool with your eye lid swelling up to almost cover your eye ball without blinking. Then do what I did and begin with your own visit to Dr. Leung at 917 W El Camino Real Sunnyvale, ... just don't be surprised that it will cost you more time and money than you thought. read more

Although I believe that Dr. Leung knows her craft, her bedside manner was definitely lacking. I asked her a series of questions because I was hoping she could correct a long-standing eye turn, but she was quick to dismiss it as being out of my control and beyond her ability to fix. Then, while waiting for my eyes to dilate, I was going to talk to her about different contact lens brands. But before I could begin the conversation, she just left the room and started chatting with her receptionist. I felt like I didn't even matter to her. I had an unexpectedly unpleasant experience here. I got an eye check up done here and I ordered 2 pairs of glasses with the new prescription after the check up. I selected a couple of frames and went to the assistant for final billing. I checked with her thrice, if the glasses would have high-index lenses as covered within my insurance and was a critical requirement for me. And each time I was assured that the lenses would be the best high index ones that my insurance covers. After that I was asked to sign two papers, one for each pair of glasses - just to check and confirm all the details. I checked there carefully that 'high index' was mentioned on both the papers for both the glasses. However when I received the glasses after 2 weeks, both had very thick non-high index lenses - as it used to be 15 years ago when we did not have high index lenses. The specs were very heavy due to this. I had to return to this place and showed Dr Leung the glasses. They accepted that the glasses do not have high index lenses, giving the lame explanation that those particular frames were not suitable for high index lenses!!! C'mon. I picked up the frames first and checked with the assistant showing those frames multiple times (not once or twice - I checked thrice) if the frames could have high index lenses. Had there been an issue I could have been told at that moment. What sort of an explanation was that. I am wearing glasses for many years. I have never heard of any such thing at any other place before this. If I believe this highly unbelievable explanation, then also, what were they doing when they found out those frames could not fit high index lenses. They could have easily informed me and got this corrected. Do they not verify the final glasses before handing them over to the customers?? They took my original one and I had to choose another frame. When my correct glasses were due, as I did not receive any updates, I called the place and found out they were shut for vacation. There is no problem with taking a vacation. But at least inform the customers about the delay! They did not bother to even inform that the correct glasses were ready. I finally got a chance to have my correct glasses after almost 6 weeks since I got my eye check up done there. After so many follow ups! What a turn around time!! I found the whole experience highly unprofessional, unfair, unethical and inefficient - needless to say extremely unpleasant and uncalled for. What if the customer is not aware of what the high index lenses are like, he/ she would be ended up with the wrong glasses even after bearing the high prices. I do not recommend this place after such a bad experience. Honestly after hearing all those lame explanations at this clinic, I do not wish to have yet another lame explanation from the business here. read more

Oh man, Dr. Leung was the best! She knows eyes, boy does she know eyes. She and her staff are very professional and friendly. So I had this black dot in front of my eyes. I'm telling you, censorship of every little thing in front of me. It was like the black bar that the FCC puts in front of every questionable image on TV, but it was censoring everything in front of my face. But no, Dr. Leung is a DR for the people! No censorship here! Freedom of speech! She explained that I may have been overreacting and that it was just a 'floater' and would go away. And she was right! Great doctor and staff. Just recently moved here and needed my eyes chECKED. Thorough and makes sure things are accurate. Left my contacts in and they weren't able to get a reading of my eyes. Instead of just not caring and moving into the next, I ended up finishing the pre-exams, then coming back later to re-do the exam. Dr. Leung was patient and cared about the health of my eyes. I felt I had a thorough exam and she's seems knowledgable about contacts. She took time to find what other brands I could potentially use, then told me what to expect next. read more

I have been wearing glasses since I was 3 years old (Iam now 32) and have a pretty tricky prescription (astigmatism) - especially when it comes to contacts. I originally had only considered getting a new pair of glasses but since I am an active person, I decided to also get a new pair of contacts as well. Astigmatisms and my extreme prescription DO NOT get along well with contacts! Since my teens I struggled in finding comfortable fitting BUT effective glasses and I often was frustrated with my vision. Knowing the extremity of my prescription did not deter Dr. Leung and after a little trial and error during the fitting process - I am happy to say that she was able to give me the same vision as I have with my regular glasses!
