First timer, found this place via VSP's provider lookup. Long story short? Wish I had gone somewhere else.
Came in for an appointment looking to get a new prescription for my glasses. I was greeted at the front by the receptionist and another woman who seemed to be the office manager, who was wearing an expensive dress and high heels. The receptionist checked me in and gave me a clipboard with papers to sign. When I finished signing, I went to turn it in to the receptionist but the office manager came out from the back and took it from me instead and let me know I'd be seen soon. All fine & good.
I did have some questions about insurance since I'm dual covered under my employer plan as well as my dad's plan. The office manager was still around, so I got her attention and asked her how my insurance coverage would work. She answered, but when I asked a follow up question she cut me off and said "if you have questions now you're going to have to reschedule your appointment. I have other patients today and if you're not ready to be seen then come back another time." Uhhh... I had been there for 5 minutes and the optometrist wasn't even ready to see me yet so I didn't get why she would give me so much sass about asking questions while waiting. So I told her no, that's fine, I was planning to see the optometrist so I'll keep my appointment thanks.
"Great," she said, then grabbed my clipboard and motioned for me to follow her back. Cool, I thought, the optometrist must be ready to see me. She then asked if I was wearing contacts, which I was, and told me to take them out. So I did, and having nowhere to put them (I wasn't offered a contact lens case nor saline), just put them in the trash thinking I'd get a spare to wear on the way out, just like I have been provided at other optometrists' offices before.
The manager led me into an exam room and instructed me to sit in the chair. Then she started to.... move the instruments into my face and look into my eyes. Yeah, the woman in the $1000 dress and high heeled pumps was the optometrist. There was zero indication that the person I'd been speaking to was the actual doctor. She never introduced herself, wasn't wearing her lab coat, and was doing front desk administrative stuff alongside her staff.
The exam was standard, though she did comment that if she'd seen me when I was 10 years old she would have had me wear hard contacts and something or other, but that it was too late now. Like, thanks!
She announced my new prescription and put all the instruments away and led me back out front, dropping me off with the optician who fitted my glasses frames.
After everything was done and squared away, I asked for my spare pair of contacts to wear out since they'd let me discard the pair I'd worn in. The receptionist told me that they couldn't give me a pair of contacts because of "liability issues". Uhhh... how was I supposed to drive home if I couldn't see two feet in front of my face???
The receptionist let me know that they had saline and contact lens cases in the back. I argued back because not once was I informed nor offered any case or saline. I would have been totally fine wearing the pair I'd worn in, but wasn't informed there was a way for me to do that. Other optometrists would either 1) give me a case and saline upfront or 2) give me spare pair to wear out. Since the office manager/optometrist hadn't offered #1, I assumed this office operated with option #2. Turns out, it was neither. Plus, I was a new customer so how was I supposed to know that they had cases and saline in the back if they didn't offer it to me?? Terrible terrible.
After much back and forth with the receptionist, who seemed to be unable to think outside the box and even asked if I wanted to wear my glasses home when the whole point was that they were going to keep the glasses to update the lenses, the optometrist came back out and gave me a pair of contacts probably so that I would leave. But come on, there was no way I was leaving there without being able to see; how would I drive home???
TL;DR: Optometrist with terrible bedside manners gave me, a first timer, terrible service and almost sent me driving home without being able to see. read more
