I've been to the belltown location but i recently moved to Northgate so i wanted to check out the other salon. I made an appointment with Lenny McQueen and he did an amazing job! I had recently cut off 6 + inches but wanted to take it even shorter and i let him work his magic. Since my initial contact with Vasuda salon, I have tried another stylist Irene. Irene always starts the appointment with a review of what she is going to do with my hair. I love that! It shows that she wants us to be on the same page. Feel free to ask her any questions, I have and she breaks down the hair jargon I may not understand. I regularly get Keratin Treatments and most recently have ventured into the world of color...btw LOVE! I trust Irene explicitly with my hair! Which is super hard for me. Thru Irene I have learned alot about how to care for and what product work well with curly hair. Its comforting to know I can talk to her about products (other than the ones Vasuda promotes) and she lets me know how or why it works or doesn't. Vasuda Salon as a whole has a family feel. All the stylists are so nice, continually asking if I am okay or if I would like anything to drink. Keep up the good work! read more

CURLY HAIR EXPERTS! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! We have been customers at this salon for a long time and we find new reasons for our loyalty every time. I made a last minute appointment for my daughter to get braided for her camping trip. I was recommended Delicia. She only had a half hour at the end of her day and was okay with taking us in for simple braids. It was my daughters first time getting these type of braids and she is also tender headed. Delicia was so kind when my child started crying. When she was all done, she gave her cute barrettes to choose from and made all the hurt go away. And! We were given better than just rows. Delicia said that she needed cute braids for her trip and my girl left the salon feeling beautiful with her new hair and didnt mention the hurt once! read more

Writing an updated review after going here for over a year now. While the good things from my previous review still stands about them being accommodating and knowing how to work with AA hair a star is docked because their pricing is inconsistent and unpredictable. Granted the service I receive is one of the more expensive ones available and I go in every 3-4 months. However the price has changed and gone up $20-40 every single time I have gone in and received L2 services. I have even called in to check before a service to be told one price and then came in and paid another. This is annoying as I budget for this service as well as a tip for my stylist. However the stylists are very good so while annoying its not something that would make me stop coming into the salon as I have not found better in the area for AA hair. I don't mind paying for the services but I think its a bit ridiculous to change prices 3 times within a year and they don't list prices on their website so customers have no way of knowing until its time to pay. Additionally, I recommended a friend to come in (non AA hair) and she had a similar thing happen to her. She wanted to get her hair colored and was quoted one price but without consulting her first the stylist used 2 additional colors in her hair causing the price to go up exceptionally. She liked the color however. That said for AA hair, go to Erica she hooks it up! Other stylists I have been to have been to there are great as well but Erica gets you in and out without going through the struggle some do with our hair types. read more

The customer service was nice, they serve you tea and hang up your jacket. BUT my haircut is terrible! (posted a picture showing before after and the picture I referred to) In the bottom of this picture is what I wanted, I grew my hair out for a year in order to get this cut because my bangs grew so slow. He cut it WAY too short, the front was supposed to come to about an inch or so past my jaw line, its about 2 inches above my jaw line. It was supposed to be a dramatic angle, its strait across and he took a random chunk out of my bangs making them shorter than all the rest of my hair for some unknown reason. Well I tried to give this salon a shot, but , this is a deal breaker for me. I called 2 days out to schedule a Saturday appointment, and they cancelled me without calling to notify me. I showed up on my precious Saturday and the girl at the reception says they have NO appointment for me.!!! What? I work 5 days a week, and have young children. They get 1 star for emailing the cancel, but to not even bother to reach out to a new customer is not the service I expect, so back to salon shopping again! I have 3 girls, so they would have had loyal paying customers, but no time for unprofessional communication. I'm sure I just dodged a bullet with this salon. read more

I first found out about Vasuda through random searches online and went in for the first time several months ago. I returned to this salon for hair coloring again this past week and am still very very happy with their services. The first time I went there was to get partial highlights with Irene after I got my perm done from another salon. The second time was to get a color update and a haircut. I'm not high maintenance and had no clues when it comes to communicating hair needs or styles to hairdresser. However, both times I went there, Irene and Diana made me feel comfortable and asked good, clarifying questions to understand my needs (without making me feel awkward or weird for not knowing anything) before they proceeded to suggest or do anything with my hair. This most recent time that I went in, even though I asked Diana to get me a color update, a haircut and a perm all in one run, Diana was really reasonable and suggested that I only go for color this time leaving the perm later (as each of these processes cause damages to the hair...so it's better to give my hair a break). I like the fact that they care about your hair condition and not just making money. Diana also asked if it was ok to take a picture of my hair before and after (which I was fine with). When she was done, she showed me the 2 pictures (before and after) of my hair and...wow...what a difference in a wonderful way that she made for me! The salon is also very clean and friendly and not pretentious at all. Customer service is great: the receptionist greets you immediately when you walk in and offer to get you a cup of water/tea. Both the receiptionist and hairdresser address you by the name. Vasuda seems to specialize in curly hair, color, African American and Asian hair. I think they did a wonderful job and at a very reasonable price. I have only been to the Northgate location (partly because I like not having to deal with parking issue or potentially higher prices in downtown) but Vasuda also did open another location in downtown recently, so the new location might suit you better). NATURAL HAIR BEWARE!! THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!! 1st visit- was left waiting in the front 20 minutes past the time of my appt because the hair dresses "wasn't told I was out there" 2nd visit- Hairdresser could answer ZERO of my questions about how to tame my natural hair. I had to wash it again when I got home because of how dry my hair was after leaving 3rd time- Emailed to figure out how to schedule with Daniela (wanted to ask questions and she has 10+ years experience with natural hair). They respond back with "well, Becca's available" I reply with I prefer Daniela (due to experience) and they guide me on how to book my appt with her. Day of the appt. I get an call saying "Daniela had to leave early, we can get you with Tommy, he has a lot of experience with natural hair" I say fine. Drive 45 MINUTES to Tacoma from Seattle and when I get there the front desk tell me "Oh Tommy had to leave early, Becca's going to do your hair." As I said before, drove 45 minutes out of my way for Daniela or Tommy's natural hair knowledge and experience and that choice was taken away from me. Apparently the 48hr cancellation policy is only concerned with the stylists time, the same respect and consideration is not given to customers. The unprofessional brand that DOES NOT care about you or your hair journey. They say that "every stylist can help with any hair" and that is 100% NOT TRUE. I was dumb enough to go 3 times, giving them chance after chance to give the natural hair knowledge and service I can get at home in ATL and was time after time disappointed. This review is specifically for Angela Jordan, who works out of Vasuda Salon the first week of every month. I can't express how much I freaking LOVE Angela. She was recommended to me by a close friend. Not only is she the nicest and most down-to-earth hairstylist I've ever been to, but she's very no-nonsense and honest. She'll tell you exactly what she thinks will work and won't work about a particular idea. She emphasizes that it's just as important that she hear about what you don't want in a haircut, and she listens very carefully to concerns. She's great about responding to emails, and did a great job easing me in to my first shorter haircut in many years. She's worked with me since then to tweak the haircut to have a slightly deeper inversion and it's really just been wonderful working with her. Actually, when I was originally thinking about cutting my hair short, I emailed her said that I was breaking up with my previous hairstylist (way too much drama there). Angela actually encouraged me to give my other salon another chance and communicate my dissatisfaction. I ended up opting for a clean break from the old place, but I think it speaks volumes that Angela encouraged me to give them another go. read more

It was alright. My stylist (Michelle) was very gentle and professional. She listened to what I wanted and my routine and took that into consideration. She told me what products she used but never got pushy with them. My only concern was the shock at the price; I came in for just a trim (listed on my receipt as 'haircut') and it turned out to be $50! Not as listed on Yelp. So be prepared for that! Update: about a month later my hair kinda fell apart; I needed more layers and my hair just became super thick and heavy. I have naturally curly medium length hair and have had a lot of disappointments with stylists who say they are "curly hair experts" when they really are not. Curly hair is difficult to manage, and if the cut isn't right it becomes impossible to deal with! The "A" shape and uneven curls are what I would get stuck with, and messy looking/frizzy if the color isn't done right. I re-located to Seattle a little over a year ago and found Emmett at Vain downtown after an extensive internet search for curly hair experts. After reading about him I thought I would give him a try in my quest to find a new stylist. I am SO lucky I didn't have to go through any disappointments with bad haircuts!! Emmett rocks, he knows how to layer curly hair so it is easy to style. I get a partial weave with highlights and they are done perfectly to enhance the curls. I get compliments from everyone about my hair, especially when I haven't seen someone in more than a year (they always say that my hair has never looked better!). I love being able to diffuse my hair and then shake it and have it fall perfectly into place - without a lot of product or hairspray to keep it out of my face! I followed Emmett from Vain to Vasuda Salon when he opened his own salon in November. He is SO dedicated that he was doing my hair along with my sister's (visiting from Oregon) on the day his wife went into labor with his daughter - he finished with us then went to the hospital :-) Vasuda is an hour drive from my house, but well worth it to get the cut/color/style!! My sister has curly hair like me, but wanted it straightened. She had Emmett do the Keratin treatment about 2 months ago and she LOVES her hair! I've been seeing Jen for a couple years now and she does an amazing job everytime! I have a lot of hair, like A LOT, and she never makes me feel like I'm taking all of her time. Such a quality experience I had here. I wanted my raggedy long rocker-boy hair cut off to a nice tight short cut, and Irene Rivera really cut it excellent, really brings out the masculinity in my face. New to Vasuda, I got my haircut by Brooke and I can easily say it 's the best haircut I've had in over a year. She cut my hair all by hand taking her time and making sure I liked the length. She was very friendly and did a great job! The staff was nice and very accommodating. At $35 the price was a little high, but I definitely got my money's worth. I think I've found my new favorite place. The only reason I rate it a 4 instead of 5 is because there was no parking lot. I pulled into the parking garage because there was a sign for Vasuda, but it was all tenant parking for the building. (Somewhat confusing) You need to park across the street at the grocery store, the church next door, or the vet clinic next to the church. I would definitely recommend Vasuda & Brooke to any guy looking for a really good quality cut. read more

This salon is awesome! I came as a new client and I definitely plan on coming here monthly. I loved how the staff is so friendly and attentive to your needs. I was researching on a salon that focused on hair of all textures since I do have very thick and frizzy hair. This place popped up as the first result and I saw that it had so many positive reviews and satified customers. I came in on a Thursday evening and it was still pretty busy. That was clearly a good sign. I got my hair done by Briana. She understood ultimately what my personal goals were as well as how I wanted my hair cut. I would definitely recommend it! Emmett does a great job of taming natural, long and sometimes frizzy African American hair. Usually I run into salons that struggle washing and combing through my kind of hair--this wasn't a problem at Vasuda Salon. He was knowledgeable, personable and really seems passionate about healthy hair. I wanted a style that would give me versatility, keep my length and would allow me to wear both curly and straight hairstyles. I got lost and was late for my appointment. He accomodated me and didn't make me feel bad about it! I ended up with the mini Keratin treatment, which I LOVED. Once in a blue moon, you come across a hair stylist that just totally embodies their craft, & that individual is Kate. I've been seeing Kate for around 3 years now, and she has totally transformed my tresses. She is beyond skilled, efficient, and you can absolutely tell that she loves her job. I've recommended her to all the people I know, as her skills are versatile enough to fit anyone's needs. At my last session I heard she was planning on doing a few days up at the Des Moines location. I've already told several friends that live there that they absolutely MUST book with Kate. This lady is a gift, and I hope she never moves out of Washington. It's gonna be hell finding anyone half as good as her! Heck I'd even drive out to Des Moines myself and I live downtown in Seattle! 10/10 recommendations!!! read more

Being new to the Seattle area, I was nervous about finding a good salon for a reasonable price. I came on Yelp to see what I could find, and Vasuda jumped off the page with all it's great ratings and raves about Irene specifically. Well, Yelp did not steer me wrong. I just had my first visit with Irene, and I could not be happier with the results or the price! My appointment with Irene was comfortable and she took the time to really get to know my hair, what I like/dislike about it, as well as discuss my goals for the long term as far as growing it out, etc. During the cut, she explained everything she was doing, and how it would affect the outcome of my overall hair style. She did the same during styling. By the end of the appointment, I had the best hair cut that I've quite possibly ever had. I should also mention that all appointments can be made online, and the process is very easy. They call 24 hours ahead of time to confirm your appointment. They also offer free touch up trims within 4 weeks of your visit, which is especially great for those with bangs or super angular looks. read more

I have not coloured my hair in 7 years and was extremely nervous, but he was very reassuring and made me feel very confident in my colour choice. When I first moved to Seattle in 2012, my hairdresser referred this salon. I liked them. I liked my hairdresser. Today I find them expensive and tedious. You can't even reach a person to talk to someone and secure a first appointment. I find them very ignorant business people. How does anyone run a business this way and keep opening more salons? What makes Vasuda phenomenal is the collective team's level of skill in both styling & product awareness. Whether I'm getting my same old wash & set, or venturing into new territory in texture & style, Vasuda is like a best friend and professor of hair rolled into one superhuman rockstar stylist with all the right answers and the training to make it happen. UPDATE JULY 2017: Used Vasuda for my wedding hair and makeup beauty team this summer. They were super professional, worked with me to test and perfect my bridal look, performed all services on-site on the day-of, and made me and the ladies in my wedding party look and feel like superstars. I came in last week (8/6/2014) to get a keratin hair treatment and was charged 325$, Left a 48$ tip, plus the must use shampoos and conditioner the price went 450$. For the price that I am charged, I would expect a much better service. Loved the ambience of the salon and super friendly receptionist. My hairdresser (Linda) was polite, but was not very friendly. She was very matter of the fact and from what I captured, was not eager to please. She was knowledgable, but not very accommodating, and inflexible towards the customer's needs (more like follow her way or no way). I'm happy to know that the treatment contains 0% of formaldehyde, although I know it must contain some other form of preservative but I was psyched. The keratin treatment smelt so stained with chemicals, it stung my eyes so bad, i was literally crying. To my surprise instead of trying to be accommodating she only said yes it can stung a bit and that's because I kept having my head down. I have to say this is one of the worst experience with a hairdresser at a salon: no small talks whatsoever, only factually explaining the treatment. I figured I'd pay the 48$ tip cause I thought she looked confident and knowledgeable, and she looked like she know what she was doing and that I've used 2.5 hours of her time despite the only semi pleasant experience. The result was DISAPPOINTING. My hair was fine hair to begin with, so I would expect after the treatment it would me a whole load more manageable and smoother. After following the instructions of keeping my perfectly flat ironed hair and not washing it for 3 days which is a big no no for me, my hair was not what I expected at all. It did become smoother but only a bit, and my hair still has significant tangles!! In addition, my hair roots seems to be always oily most of the time now, which is gross. I have to say this is really not worth my money, both the treatment and the service (made me wanna come home instead of relaxing at the salon, which is very unusual). But I looked at the other guests that day and their hairdressers seem to be very pleasant and the guests overjoyed. All I wanted was great hair and a relaxing experience, which seems like too much to ask. I don't know if Vasuda is just having a bad day that day (I'm seeing all good reviews here so I was surprised), but this was my first visit and I would not come here again. For spending 450$, I would expect better results. I am just hoping that I could get a refund. read more

Best place to go in the city if you have black/african american hair. Emett is super nice an very professional. He's been doing hair a long time and he's very knowledgable about taking care of your hair. He trains all of the stylists to be just as great as he is. I recently tried out one of the other stylists (a new girl) and I really liked the way she styled my hair. On Tuesdays, the Northgate location have specials and on Wednesdays the downtown location have specials on hair cuts and color. read more
