They told me there was an appointment at 10am already scheduled. I come here at 10:45am, it's closed. And now it is 11am. No one there. Kind of not cool. Was looking forward to donating my hair. I didn't receive an email or phone cancelation either. I confirmed my appointment in the email as well. My advice, if you can't show up, call me or email me. Also, it's especially not cool when it's a hair donation for a kid. I understand life happens, but I drove 1 hr for this. The least you can do is inform me of a cancelation. Also, just to add, I was also getting charged for the cut too. So the stylist was suppose to get paid/tipped.

I had not known that otherwise I would have rejected the appointment. My hair lifts easily, and Haley noted that. Despite that, she used too strong a developer and damaged my hair beyond belief. Not only that. She missed half of my head with toner. She noticed. And didn't tell me. She let me leave the salon with half of my head not toned. It's very noticeable from the back. I didn't see it at the appointment because she didn't show me the back - and now I know why. That's the worst of it, but she also didn't rinse my hair properly, so I still had product dried up and crusty in my hair. And she barely used any product while she blew out my hair on the highest heat, burning my scalp a couple of times and damaging my hair even more. And it was still a bit wet by the time I left. I'm usually pretty relaxed, so I didn't complain until after I went home and noticed that my head wasn't properly toned (which is also not that hard to do, I've done it myself during covid lockdowns - so it really is incredible that she messed up this bad and didn't say anything, hoping I wouldn't notice). Nothing about my experience with Haley was positive. Her work was incredibly sloppy, negligent, and dishonest. Edited to add (in response to Howie, the owner): You know the issue isn't with the toner itself - I did not see that she didn't do the back otherwise I obviously wouldn't have been "pleased". Again, you know this. I have a photo attached. You see how bad it is. I don't know why you're trying to act like that quality of service is okay. I didn't realize Red Chair's standards were so low, and I regret that I gave you all a shot :/ Also, I have to spend the holidays looking like this. So thanks for that.

Andy helped me work out a plan for it and did a cut that gave my fine, very straight hair lots of movement, texture, and style even with my super low maintenance daily routine. It's been a week now since getting it cut, and sometimes when you do that first week (or even first wash) you have a moment where you're like "hey where'd all the cool haircut go, it's just mush again?" NOT SO. This one maintains great movement and texture even with just blow drying it the night before and tossing texturizer in it in the morning (which I got at a discount thanks to their welcome package). I also loved seeing all the different types of neighborhood people around--not just like fancy people getting their hair done but a really wide spectrum from older dudes to younger NB folx and femmes. TLDR: Great experience with a haircut from Andy (pic attached if you're interested) and really enjoyed the salon itself

Beverages are offered and they use great products. However my second visit was just a few days ago with Sarah. What I asked for I got the complete opposite. She gave me a blow out so my hair looked beautiful leaving but the next day washing it seeing my natural waves and curls and really inspecting the cut. I look a bit chopped. The front was not face framing instead she gave me 4 steps. The front is uneven and choppy as heck. My hair is gone so no way to fix that and wouldn't trust her to fix it tbh so I have to take an expensive loss. I cried all night yesterday just looking at the front pieces. Just embarrassing. I paid a lot and tipped very well just for it to look like an amateur cut my hair. Don't come here. I regret coming here as I looked better with my dead ends. I could've cut my own hair better which I have. This was supposed to be a pick me up to make me feel beautiful now 2 days later I am in regret not feeling like how I should and wanted. Sooooo expensive and terrible results. Also they could've been friendlier. I felt she got tired blow drying my hair. They are supposed to be knowledgeable in long, thick hair, curly hair, wavy hair. I wanted to choose this stylist due to her good reviews but I really cannot recommend her or this salon. I don't like leaving bad reviews but I am distraught. Don't come here as you will cry tears of sadness not joy.

The cut - usually, I think my hair looks better worn up, but since Amy has been cutting it, I love wearing it down. Finally, she is so friendly and a joy to chat with. Amy has been doing my hair for awhile, but she just started at Kitty Hawk. What a cool space, easy to find, easy free parking and the shop is really cute and clean! Get your buns in Amy's chair! :)

I have to write this review. It pains me to do it, but others should know what they are getting themselves into. Background: Natural for nearly 6 yrs, took me 2-3 yrs to grow all of the relaxer out of my hair out, before service at Vasuda I would describe my hair as beautiful, nice length, thick, strong, fluid, soft, silky........ Vasuda experience: Natural hair is time consuming, I decided to go back to relaxers. Ariana put a relaxer in my hair, it was her second time servicing my hair. She did not process the relaxer correctly in my hair. Rather than admitting her mistake immediately, she cut my hair, flat ironed it and sent me on my way. My hair felt dry so I washed it within 2 days. I then noticed Ariana completely fd-up my hair! My hair looked half relaxed half natural! I couldn't comb through my hair. I had a lot of breakage. I rescheduled immediately. She told me, my hair was damaged/dry before she relaxed it, the relaxer exacerbated my hair, but she could fix it. (If it was damaged/dry why relax it? Why not warn me 1st? Maybe because my hair was NOT damaged!) I thought she was saving face, realized her mistake and would correct it. She didn't. She put Keratin treatment on my hair and it did nothing. I contacted the owners. Emmett was honest with me, and I thank him for it. He said, he believed Ariana did not process it completely and or didn't let it take to my hair. He offered me a partial refund and for his top stylist, Brooke, in Tacoma to do my hair (I was out in Tacoma already). She relaxed the bottom half of my hair again, and put another Keritan treatment on my hair. My hair looked good for three days after Brooke did it, but once I washed it, it returned to the horrible damaged condition that Ariana caused originally. I was not able to comb through it, it was hard, crunchy, dry and just horrible. Thoughts about Vasuda: Emmet, Ariana, and Brooke are all very nice. Nonetheless, my hair was damaged, and Vasuda was not able to fix the mistake. Remedy: I went to another salon and the salon was instantly able to fix my hair! Thankfully, my hair is no longer crunchy, dry, brittle and I can run my fingers through my hair yet again, like I have always been able to do. I will not return to Vasuda for obvious reasons. read more

I had only one hairstylist my whole life. When it was time to make a change, while looking online for a new salon/person that fit my needs I so blessedly stumbled upon Vasuda Salon & it's owner Emmett Henley. I am very cautious & research everyone I decide to do business with-especially when it comes to something so important as my hair (I'm a Black female). I read every Vasuda Salon review on Yelp before I called to book my first appointment. It was during the busy holiday season & because Emmett is that phenomenal, I had to wait awhile to get in, but whoever said "patience is a virtue" must have known Emmett personally! The salon atmosphere is refreshing (clean/organized/well lit), Emmett's customer service is stellar (one client at a time), his skill set along with his time management are far beyond anything I've encountered (wash/style/trim in one hour), our conversations are hilarious & last, but definitely not least my favorite part of my bi-monthly visits to Vasuda- seeing Emmett's lovely wife & co-owner Jessica. They have chosen a fabulous salon staff (Irene is the brow queen) & working together they make Vasuda the best salon to be a client. I really cant stress this enough- vasuda is AMAZING. Like, 'make a yelp three months after your last vasuda cut just to review them' amazing. Which is what i'm doing right now as i sit under the drier after yet another terrible non-vasuda cut. I spent the summer in seattle as part of an undergraduate internship and was referred to them for "the best haircut ever", and BOY was that an underrated description. Ariana gave me the best tapered cut known to man, with minimal fuss and patience in explaining the ins and outs of female cuts (i had dreads for 15 years and was new to short hair). Since then, I am back on the east coast for school and have had a multitude of nightmarish cuts from supposed "natural hair stylists" who pull maneuvers like trying to blow dry my hair before cutting it or chopping my hair into ludicrous shapes because its "hard to cut natural hair". Mind you, i'm going to school in nyc- you know, where harlem and the bx are. I have yet to find a hair stylists who is as great as any vasuda stylist, and if I wasnt a starving student i would quite literally fly from my apartment to seattle just to be able to turn the mirror on another splendid cut. So yeah, i'd say I had a pretty good experience with vasuda. read more

My experience at Vasuda Salon was fantastic. One of the best salons I have been to in the Northwest. It is a rarity to find a salon that offers both quality and affordability. I worked with stylist Erica C and was impressed by her professionalism and styling technique. She was compassionate and caring as she helped me to understand how to better care for my hair. She did not try to up sell me a bunch of products BUT did send me home with the appropriate product I needed. The ambiance and architecture of the salon was contemporary and well kept. All of the other stylists were nice, prompt and so were the customers! It was a great atmosphere overall. Better yet this salon caters to men, women, children and people of all different ethnic backgrounds. They are located right here at Northgate mall so even if you have to drive from south Seattle or even further north, it's not a bad commute! I would highly recommend this salon to any of my friends, family, colleagues and those reading the reviews on Yelp:) My only suggestion is that your book your appointments in advance! I tried out Vasuda on Saturday for the first time when my mom referred me. I am so glad she did. My hair looks and feels amazing. Which I don't normally say since I have naturally curly hair that is pretty damaged from years and years of being a slave to my straightening iron. Diana cut my hair and she and everyone on staff was super friendly. She also did a great job of talking to me about my hair and what I could do to successfully grow it super long and protect it from heat damage. More then anything though, I normally hate getting my hair cut cause the next day i always regret it. They've taken too much off, they style it in a way that I could never recreate, etc...But this is only the 2nd time in my life where days after getting it cut I'm still thinking "Oh my god! I'm so glad I got it cut! It looks SOOOOO much better" I like that she just took off the very dead hair that couldn't be saved and respected that I'm trying to grow it out. I recently got a relaxer with Michelle. She was nice and so were the other people in the store, however the relaxer did not go well. Before starting the relaxer, I mentioned I had a very sensitive scalp and that my whole hair needed to be relaxed (it was essentially a virgin relaxer), but she insisted she'd focus on my roots first. She based my scalp heavily, and started to apply the relaxer at a slowish pace. By the time my scalp started burning (which was about 15 minutes in) there was still a lot left to do, and the rest of my hair was rushed (even another stylist had to jump in and help). My scalp was sore for days after and I now have two different textures of hair; bone straight roots and texturized ends. It seems from the reviews that Michelle has a lot of experience and does a great job with other styles, I just wouldn't recommend a relaxer. read more

This place is goin down hill!!! (And fast!) Have been comin to Vasuda for over 3 yrs. Saw Alexis first, she was nice but her cuts weren't great. And then she became more and more sporadic. Would show up late or cancel on me, (once the day of as I was already on my way!) So I switched to Arianna. She was rude (and also late to our appt!) Finally found Kate and man, she's by FAR the most skilled stylist-wise but even just relationally and professionally. The couple times I've been with her Arianna and Alexis were late to their clients, I was tempted to talk to them while they waited and say "switch to Kate!" but I just found out she's LEAVING! (That's my luck). I don't know if ownership is changing or the shop is closing or what but don't go here!!! Best believe I'm driving to Tacoma to see Kate, let's get a carpool goin! read more

I LOVE this salon, the whole team are amazing. Black or White, straight hair or curly, then this is your place. They know everything about hair. I've got unruly natural bi-racial hair, some of the salons I've visited in the past couldn't handle it and I'd be in there for 4hrs, just for a wash and blow dry! When I first saw Emmett he washed, dried and flat ironed in an hour and I felt a million dollars!! I saw Irene on Saturday and she gave me a Keratin treatment. Vasuda Salon is a great place to get your hair done and everyone that works there is so great! They take your coats and gloves as soon as you enter the door and offer you a drink for whatever mood you are in, from coffee to a soda! The whole atmosphere of the place is really nice and the music is great too. Emmet is a wonderful stylist who knows a lot about your hair, what would look best, how to maintain it, and how to keep it healthy. I have curly hair and it was down to my hips last month until I cut a foot off and it was just to my waist, that's when I decided to take the plunge and cut it to just barely above my shoulders, I've never had short hair before so I was a little scared it was going to look bad on me or that my hair dresser would cut it too short, but no! Lenny did a wonderful job with my hair and I'm soo happy with it! I've never written a review before, however, I feel compelled to write one now. I'd give this place negative stars but cannot, hence the one star. I went to this salon after reading the reviews on yelp. What a mistake. I wanted a "shaping", I left there with my hair dramatically shorter and still no shape. I have naturally curly hair and now I look like a poodle. I've never had a haircut look so bad in my life. Not only was this not what I asked for but now I want to hide in shame. I have lived in many cities, large and small, and Vasuda and Emmet are the first salon that I would consider traveling to for his services (I am moving to San Diego). Actually, the salon is not only professional but it is very comfortable. And I especially like the fact that they do not "double book" so you have your stylist's full attention. The thing I appreciated was her advice to do my hair transformation in two parts. She purposed this idea so that I could see and experience my hair half way short rather than going straight to a full bob and then being stuck with something that I regretted. After 6 weeks of enjoying the first step and feeling no regrets I was so excited for the final cut that ended up being the cutest bob! Well, she fixed it, and made it look AWESOME! I've also gone to her for a haircut and she did a great job with that, too. She really listens and tries to do exactly what you want, but she also keeps up on all the trends so she isn't going to let you do anything bad to your hair. I have to admit when I first saw this place I wasn't terribly moved by it, but it is actually a nice salon and Viola is SUPERB!!

I usually rely on Yelp for everything, so I was a bit hesitant when I didn't see many reviews for this salon, yet they didn't just recently open. I decided to take a chance and I'm so glad I did! Kristin is the owner and cut my hair tonight. About a month ago, I went to another salon and asked for a long bob (lob). It was left too long in the back, it was too thick and didn't have any movement. When I described what I didn't like about it, Kristin knew exactly what I meant. I also showed her some pictures and my cut looks spot on. She also had great attention to detail and was very thorough. She would see how the style would move and then make adjustments and cut a bit more. My bangs kept separating, which would have looked stringy. So Kristin ended up making them a bit thicker, which was a good solution. Before, I was always afraid to get my hair cut in fear that it would turn out choppy, uneven, they'd cut too much off, etc.. But now I'm actually looking forward to the next time I need a cut so I can keep my lob looking sleek or even experiment with something different. Kristin is really friendly too and the salon is so cute! *UPDATE! It has now been one month since my haircut and I have received tons of compliments. It's SO easy to style and the layers still fall right into place beautifully.
