Vaqueros is a decently priced, delicious, and QUICK spot to get dinner. We came in around 8:45 and were already done our food and leaving by 9:30. We did eat fast - as we hiked a good bit that day - but either way, the food came out so quick. I think the non-alcoholic guava lemonade I got left much to be desired and was a bit overpriced. That said, that's pretty much my only complaint. The food was good with decent portions, I wouldn't say it's the best I've ever had but it was a good option. Also plenty of corn tortilla offerings - so that's great for someone gluten free like myself.

This was one of the few places open when we got out of the park. It was a nice find. The food was good and the service was quick and friendly. Seems like a popular place.

Does the job and can sit large groups (ours was 9). Overall decent bang for buck in the area and no one left super hungry or upset with their meal. There were several areas of the restaurant/bar/casino(?) to explore but it felt more for the locals and I'd be intruding as an out of towner. Could use some more windows as the interior was windowless but perhaps that's the vibe they were going for.

This place was top notch in all aspects! Greeted and seated immediately with what looked close to full capacity, our server arrived within minutes and had drinks on the table in 3 mins! Queso a minute behind that and our fajitas came flying in right behind that. We were starving after a long day of hiking, so I am positive they could see it (or just that efficient)! We shared the fajita dinner with corn tortillas (yum!) served with silky guacamole, lettuce, pico, rice and beans. Everyone there was enjoying themselves and it was loud and lively with a few TVs playing NBA reruns. Our server talked with us for a good amount of time and was very pleasant and polished. Thanks for the amazing meal Vaqueros!

Mexican food. Really solid. If you are hungry after a long hike come to this place. The portions will leaving you super full. No complaints. Other than if you want an extra box of chips and dip they charge you.

This place was way better than a place we went to on the north end of Whitefish. Food was delicious and portions were huge! Service was great! The building had that great southwestern vibe! We'll be back!

Chicken quesadilla, was super delicious, the plate is a lot bigger so be prepared to eat.

Overall, this place was a mix of really impressive food and a few frustrating misses. Ratings * Food: 4.2/5 * Service: 4.5/5 * Atmosphere: 3/5 * Value: 3.5/5 * Overall: 4/5 The Bad First: Chips & Salsa I have to start here because it honestly bothered me. You simply do not charge for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. I don't care how modern eclectic and edgy you think you are. Chips and salsa are basically humanity's welcome gift from Latino culture. Charging $6.50 for them immediately sets expectations high -- and unfortunately, this was the weakest part of the entire meal. Both the regular salsa and the tomatillo salsa were muddy-looking and lacked freshness or brightness. The dominant flavor was artificial smoke. No heat, no freshness, no punch. Honestly, even if they had been complimentary, I still would've thought they missed the mark. Please -- forget the pineapple infusions and overthought concepts. Just make a fresh pico de gallo, a great roasted salsa, and a genuinely good hot sauce. Make THAT your signature and your gift to Whitefish. The Good Stuff Now the good news: the actual entrées were excellent. The Chile Relleno was fantastic -- honestly one of the best I've had anywhere. Perfect texture, rich flavor, and clearly made with care. The tacos were also exceptional. I believe the beef taco was the barbacoa, and it absolutely stood out. I was dining with my parents, both in their 70s, and every entrée at the table was a hit. Service Our waiter Jake was excellent. He was juggling several tables at once but stayed attentive, friendly, and accommodating the entire evening. The hostess was also terrific -- greeted us warmly and seated us immediately. Most of the staff seemed genuinely kind and professional, although one bartender came across noticeably cold and uptight. No smile, very little interaction beyond taking orders and dropping off drinks. Atmosphere & Music I usually avoid reading reviews before posting my own, but afterward I noticed many people mentioned the music -- and I completely agree. It's not just that it's too loud. It's the wrong vibe entirely. The music selection feels more nightclub than relaxed cantina. Good restaurant music should create warmth and energy in the background, not dominate the room. The place itself is attractive and lively, and I was impressed by how busy it was for a Monday night. Bonus points for having hockey on during the playoffs. Final Thoughts This isn't traditional Mexican food, despite some of the branding language about authenticity and traditional ingredients. It feels more like someone's modern interpretation or fusion-inspired version of Mexico. That said -- the kitchen clearly knows how to cook. The entrées were genuinely impressive, and the service was very solid. Fix the salsa. Stop charging for it. Improve the music. Do those three things, and this place goes from "good" to "destination-level." I'll absolutely give it another try this summer. And yes, my mother was Mexican. I grew up on this stuff and have traveled the world having various Mexican concepts.

We are from Texas, we have some really good Mexican restaurants, so hard to beat what we have locally, but this was good. Prices are a little high, but it's a tourist spot. The burritos were about $15, quesadillas about $15 and tacos $5 each. I think the quesadillas are a little high priced, especially since my kids wanted cheese and meat only. Maybe they should offer a kid version of tacos and quesadillas. The main reason I gave 3 stars instead of 4- two out of the five of us got incorrect orders. My kiddo asked for tacos with just meat, cheese, onions and lettuce- they came with tomatoes and cilantro. Cilantro especially is something that people either like or they hate. He asked for them to change it, and they gladly remade. But then I started eating my burrito - I had ordered with no olives because I absolutely hate olives- and it was full of olives. At that point, I did not want to go ask for another remake. It's just uncomfortable. I imagine they would have made it again, but I don't feel like that burden should be on the customer. A restaurant can always state that there are no changes or substitutions, but the person taking our order asked us if we were good with all the veggies that came on the burrito. So it seems they are used to people asking for them to remove things. That was disappointing that I had to pick through my food. So I hope the try harder on there details- otherwise would have give 4 or more stars.

This place is a food truck right outside of the park that has some outdoor shaded seating. I ordered the fajita burrito with carne asada ($13.50) and like others have mentioned the burrito was huge! I liked the fajita peppers in the burrito along with the good carne asada meat. I don't know if it was because I was starving but I ate and finished the burrito faster than I ever have in my life. It's not going to be the best Mexican food ever but for a touristy spot and for its proximity to the park it's a good option if you want to get away from the typical burgers and American fare. For me it hit the spot for sure and gave me the energy to go back into the park to go on more hikes that day.
