We called and placed a to order on a Saturday around 1:00 pm. The lady who answered the phone was super sweet and helpful. We ordered the family feast. With tax it as $99. Everything was really good except the brisket and it was super dry and tough. It just felt overcooked. Also you can see in the picture that it was dipped in something. The only thing I can say is Meh! It was a toss up between this restaurant and another BBQ place in Shawnee and I left unimpressed. I ordered the Chopped Brisket sandwich with beans. Neither of which were that tasty. The beans were runny and looks like I may gotten the last scoops in the pan. The brisket was dry and was only helped by lots of bbq sauce. Van's Pig Stand Shawnee OK Harrison location was just as disappointing as my first time. My husband and I stopped for some BBQ at lunchtime. Business was a little busy, but overly. A wait staff member served our food to us when it was ready. This is where disappointment started. My husband ordered the Jr. Rib Dinner. The curly fries were soggy and greasy. The baked beans were not heated. The meal had 4 small ribs. Charging $16.50 was extreme for 4 ribs and 2 sides. I ordered baked spud with pulled pork. There was maybe an ounce of pork on top. Came with sour cream, butter, and a sprinkle of cheese on the bottom. It was a huge potatoe! $14 for basically a baked potatoe was a bit much. And, what is with charging $1 for 2 waters! I haven't been charged for water in 50 yrs. The bowl of lemons was brown, and the rest of the area was sticky, just like the first fork I got from the utensil area. read more

Most of the reviews were kind of dramatic. For us this was amazing pick. Meat was amazing. The sweet tea tasted great. The only bad thing was the pecan pie was barely sweet and it had a bad texture. The interior was nice it felt like being in a 1990's restaurant. So overall I would come back again. read more

One of the worst casual dining experiences I've ever had, congratulations y'all you suck. How is this a BBQ restaurant and you are out of pulled pork at 5!? That was my first clue to leave and I would have if the person I came with wasn't so dead set on the food being good. Ended up getting the turkey and brisket, green beans and raw cabbage with no sauce aka coleslaw. Chopped brisket was a handful of what looked to be shit and grease, turkey was turkey (you have to be a complete idiot to screw that up but still blah). Green beans unflavored and coleslaw just raw cabbage. Dinner buddy said the hot links tasted like dog food. Sauces were empty and dirty. Employees standing around literally doing nothing pertaining to work but plenty of jokes and laughter to go around. When we left at 6PM they had shut the lights off outside and I assume were done for the day since they failed to do their jobs earlier. Just close the place entirely and stop wasting people's money. We haven't been to Shawnee for a number of years. Tonight we stopped by for a long overdue repeat visit to an old favorite. We had a very helpful and cheerful server. We enjoyed the ribs, a hot link, and pulled pork. All were well prepared and complimented by several BBQ sauces. For sides we had slaw, green beans, and some of the best fries I've ever ordered. They had a small pickle bar with some good bread n butter pickles and a very good relish. We had a good dinner and a good experience. Hope to return some day. read more

Ordered the chopped brisket sandwich which was ok but didn't wow me. If you want to add cheese, it costs extra. It's 4.50 more to make it a combo, so I ordered Curly Q Fries & a drink. The Curly Q Fries were greasy, undercooked & a big gooey mess. I ordered banana pudding that was good. I know a lot of people like to eat here at this particular location on N. We went into Vans about 11:30 on a Friday. service was very good. The ribs and brisket I took to my dogs. The 3 slices of brisket were very dry and the ribs had absolutely no juice. I have eaten and cooked enough bbq I know when it is over cooked or LEFTOVER! After returning home I called the manager he said he pulled it out fresh that morning. For $45 I truly expected better. Just a very standard barbecue spot when it comes to the food. The brisket was fine, but definitely on the dry side. Banana pudding was pretty good and nicely portioned. BBQ sauce was a little spicy for my taste. Sweet tea was very much not sweet and not strongly brewed, leaving it very watered down. The best part about Van's when I stopped in was the staff working. They were all incredibly kind and funny and attentive, and the service was relatively quick, which I appreciated. If I were in the area I wouldn't mind stopping into Van's again. It certainly wasn't "bad" by any means, but not the kind of barbecue you remember and actively want to return to. read more

Van's Pig stand located on Harrison Street in Shawnee got a tryout this week for a family event. We needed a large space for our group and Van's fit the bill perfectly. Van's is noted for their BBQ and there was no shortage of ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage, around the table. Lot's of sides including baked beans, potato salad, fried okra, French fries, baked potatoes, etc. Van's had a staff shortage so it was a little Tuff for them with a group as large as ours but the only waiter took it with a smile. Serving up BBQ in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It's conveniently located just south of highway 40. So if you are in between here and there and Shawnee isn't your destination, I'd recommend this location-it doesn't add much time at all to your trip. We rolled through Shawnee late on a Friday evening. We were pleasantly surprised that they still had all meats available, including their ribs. Commonly, when going to a BBQ place towards the end of the day, I mentally prepare myself that they might be it sold out of certain menu items. A friend and I spit an order of half rack of ribs. It was the perfect amount of food for two. They tasted good: fall off the bone, fork tender. I would order them again if I were there. But comparatively speaking, I would rate them 3/5 stars. I've had some darn good ribs in my time. These were good, but not anywhere close to spectacular. They needed the BBQ sauce to pump up the flavor. The fried okra was really tasty. It was hot and well breaded. It tasted great dipped in their house BBQ sauce. I would recommend them. All and all, it was a good meal. We all left satisfied, but not wowed. Oklahoma BBQ has some fierce competition, these days. I would throw this one in the proverbial ring, to duke it out against other Oklahoma BBQ places, but I probably wouldn't bet my money on them. read more

I'm a small town girl and always will be at heart so this might explain why I enjoyed this place so much. You are greeted the second you walk in the door. Tons of choices to pick from off the menu and ample amounts of sides that it will leave you second guessing yourself because naturally, something else will sound just as good! They offer a lunch special which is a sandwich of your choice, one side and a drink all for $7.75 which was a great deal! My mom and I both got the BBQ sandwich with sweet tea. My side I got okra, hers potato salad. If you like the old fashioned almost sweet potato salad this is your place! The okra was amazing and not greasy what so ever. It was perfectly crispy! My son got the chicken tender kids meal and something about their batter for their tenders were out of this world! My mom and I both caught outselves helping him eat his kids meal which is awful! No wonder he was hungry later in the day! The fries he got were okay not great they were definitely homemade. Our bbq sandwich was good - they had multiple sauces to help add some "spice" to it which I felt it needed. Another thing I enjoyed was their small "pickle bar" get the bread and butter pickles they were delicious! They reminded me of goldies back in the day. I went back for seconds of pickles.... twice! Hunger will not follow you out the door as you leave. This was my third visit to BBQ restaurants in the past two weeks. Once again the aroma was clear that I was about to get my smoke feed bag on. Brisket, sausage and turkey was my choice with coleslaw and fries. Had I known that I was going to get 100 pounds of fries I probably would have gotten something else. The entire establishment was dirty, the floors and drink station were especially filthy. The brisket was dry and the sausage was average at best. The sides of coleslaw and pinto beans were also just average. I have traveled all over the world and never been more disappointed in a meal or a business. We've been going to Van's (both Shawnee locations) for a very long time. On 12/26/2021, we took our family of 11 to the location on Harrison. This was our "Christmas lunch" because it was the only day we could get everyone together. We arrived shortly after it opened. We anticipated a great meal (as usual) only to be greeted with what I would describe as warmed up leftovers. The quality of the food was very disappointing. I know it was the first day open after Christmas, but we expected fresh quality meals. What we got was a very bad memory. We all commented that this was not the Van's we know. In addition to the poor food quality, the next day I looked at my credit card app and realized they charged my card $4.00 more than my signed receipt. I contacted Van's through their website on 12/27/2021. I received a response the next day from Jev Vandegrift. He thanked me for contacting them and said he would look into it and get back to me. As of 1/12/2022, I am still waiting on a follow-up answer. read more

My husband and I stopped in to eat dinner and I ordered a water to drink. The lady gave me a bottle of water, I asked if I could just have a glass of water and she said she would have to charge me the same as if I ordered a soft drink so it's cheaper to pay the $1.75 for the bottled water. I can only speak to what I ordered: shredded brisket, baked beans and coleslaw. The meat was over cooked, tasteless and tough. The coleslaw, while not look appealing visually it was pretty good. The baked beans and Texas toast, not so much. However the service was excellent. I admit that other dishes might be excellent but not the brisket. read more

I've heard good things about Van's Pig Stand in Norman and Shawnee, Ok. Those good things must not have come from this restaurant. Ribs were thin, poor little things that had meat that was so tough, it could rival beef jerky. Fries that were wet and floppy. Grease almost able to drip off of. Under-fried clumps of doughy okra. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I did come on a Sunday during lunch rush. Their service was friendly and quick. So that's to be commended. Talk about clean.... the very friendly staff were constantly sanitizing their seats, tables, equipment. I went during an off hour 3pm and had only one other table filled because of the time and the COVID19 scare. I've gotten to the point whereby I judge BBQ joints by their beef brisket. I've been disappointed so many times by BBQ stands passing off pot roast as smoked brisket. Famous Dave's does that and they did no survive in OK. Van's was excellent; it had that dark red band along the top and some burnt edge as well. The fries were greasy and soggy so pass on those. P.S.: The pulled pork is tender and flavorful, but the Carolina-style sauce isn't tangy enough, authentic enough, nor piquant enough to be classified as the Carolina-style sauce I know and love. (But, hey, I'm in Oklahoma.) Very friendly staff. TRY THE OKRA! Cool, retro environment/ambience at the original location. the service was friendly and pleasant. first time in and ordered the two meat combo. sliced brisket and turkey. w ribs as a extra... brisket, i asked for a lean cut and they obliged my request. the crust was nice and robust with tender meat throughout. the smoke was not overpowering and is the best part of the entire meal. ribs, sorry... i ordered these. tough and chewy. stuck to the bone like glue... turkey. was just ok. was tender but also missed some of the robustness in smoke flavor of the brisket. came out cooler than expected and ended up being cold by the end of the meal. would have scored lower overall but the brisket was really good enough to bump them up. if all inhad was the brisket and a coke. it would be 5 stars. read more

We tried this place and didn't like any of their food. We got 1 pound of pork, brisket, and a rack of ribs. The pulled pork was chunked, not pulled and the brisket was chopped, very fine.
