I had an extremely disappointing experience at Vanguard Volkswagen. I went to the dealership specifically to test drive a used car that was advertised on the Vanguard Volkswagen website for $13,169. After spending time test driving the vehicle, the salesperson, Juan Amaro, presented it to me at $15,750 instead. I actually had to pull up the dealership's own website and show him the advertised price before they acknowledged the correct listing price. Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of it. After correcting the price, I was told I was required to purchase a $1,995 VIP Package in order to buy the car. The package included one year of paint and fabric protection, one free oil change, and a $2,500 theft benefit. I clearly explained that I didn't want or need any of those items, but I was told the package was mandatory on every vehicle they sell. I spent hours at the dealership only to find out that the advertised price wasn't the actual price I would be allowed to pay. Requiring nearly $2,000 in dealer add-ons that a customer doesn't want feels misleading and completely changed the value of the deal. The entire experience wasted several hours of my day, and I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. I visited the dealership to get clear answers about my lease buyout after receiving conflicting information from staff. Instead, I was mocked and ridiculed during my conversation with the Sales Manager, David Estrada, and the other associate. I was also repeatedly told, almost as a threat, that I would "have to deal with them in person anyway" if I wanted to complete my lease buyout. I later confirmed by phone directly with Volkswagen Financial Services that this was not true. When I politely asked the General Manager, Paul Berube, for clarification on my options, he interrupted me before I could finish my sentences, assumed I was there to complain about his staff, called me "rude and difficult" simply for asking questions, and ended the conversation by saying, "We're done here." What makes this even more concerning is that I had visited this same dealership previously accompanied by a man, and the attitude toward me was noticeably different. This time, as a woman on my own asking questions about a major financial decision, I felt dismissed, belittled, and treated with far less respect. Women, and really all customers, deserve to be treated professionally and equally when asking legitimate questions. Since I'd never even seen one in person before, I wanted to take my time, look the car over, and go for a test drive before discussing financing. Within minutes of meeting Jose, he brought me straight to his desk and started filling out a credit application. I showed him my pre-approval letter from my bank and explained that I already had financing lined up. I also told him I wasn't comfortable submitting a credit application before I'd even seen or driven the car. Despite that, he continued trying to push the paperwork. He seemed visibly annoyed when I declined, disappeared to speak with his sales manager, and eventually brought around a comparable vehicle. The entire walk-around felt rushed. While looking at the car, I asked how the price compared to the model I originally came to see. His response was, "This is what you can afford." I was honestly stunned. That's an incredibly disrespectful thing to say to a potential customer. At that point, I had no interest in continuing the conversation. When he tried to bring me back inside, I told him I was leaving. He made another snarky comment as I walked away. The next day, I accidentally returned to this location when I meant to visit another dealership, and Jose greeted me again. Unfortunately, it was more of the same. Before I could even properly look at the vehicle, he wanted to jump back into paperwork. Once again, I had to insist that I wanted to see and test-drive the car first. After another trip to the sales manager, he brought out a comparable model, and the test drive lasted what felt like five minutes--basically just around the block. Back at his desk, everything felt scripted and high-pressure. The entire interaction came across as impersonal, rushed, and focused on getting paperwork signed rather than helping a customer make an informed decision. As someone who was genuinely interested in buying a car, this was one of the worst experiences I've had with a salesperson. That said, I want to be fair. Everyone else I dealt with at the dealership was great. The sales managers worked hard to earn my business and put together a deal that I thought was fair, and the finance department was professional, friendly, and easy to work with. My frustration is directed solely at Jose. High-pressure sales tactics are one thing, but being dismissive and making comments like, "This is what you can afford," are unacceptable. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a Volkswagen dealership. I went in for an oil change because they had a $109.95 special posted on both their website and social media (which has since been removed). The special included an oil and filter change plus a multi-point inspection, which is standard for most oil changes. When I arrived around 7:38 AM, there were a few cars in the service bay but no visible customers. Normally at VW dealerships, someone greets you at your vehicle, but that never happened. I made eye contact with multiple employees sitting inside, and no one acknowledged me. So I eventually had to walk inside myself, where four men behind desks immediately put their heads down like they didn't want to help me. I finally went to the express service desk and told the advisor I was there for an oil change. While filling out paperwork, I asked if they no longer greet customers at their vehicles. He claimed he would have greeted me "if he had seen me," even though he clearly looked right at me when I pulled in. When I showed him the oil change special, he immediately told me my vehicle didn't qualify, but couldn't give a real explanation why. He started talking about diesel vehicles -- I drive a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, not a diesel. At that point, I asked to speak with a manager for clarification. While outside on the phone talking about how rude the experience had been, an older gentleman overheard me and later offered me coffee and water, which I appreciated. I waited another 10 minutes and still no manager came to speak with me. Eventually I met Reggie from the sales department, and honestly he was the best part of this entire experience. He listened, apologized, and even offered to pay for my oil change himself because he agreed the situation was unacceptable. I told him the issue was bigger than a free oil change, but he insisted and got my vehicle taken care of immediately. The same older gentleman also listened to my concerns and reassured me this was supposedly not normal behavior and that honoring the coupon was no big deal. While I appreciate both of them trying to make things right, the treatment I received from the service department felt dismissive, disrespectful, and honestly borderline sexist and racist -- especially after I witnessed a Caucasian male and two Caucasian females come in and receive top-tier customer service while I was being ignored and brushed off. After I got home, I realized they never changed my oil change sticker, never gave me any paperwork showing service was completed, and my Volkswagen digital service history was never updated. I then had to call the dealership back and leave a voicemail for the service manager, Swen Schraml. When he returned my call, he was very short and seemed more focused on saying they usually have "better customer service than Hewlett VW in Georgetown" instead of taking accountability for what happened. He never once initially mentioned speaking to the employees involved until I specifically brought it up. I also informed him I never received paperwork or proof of service, which is important for warranty and maintenance records. He eventually emailed me a receipt, but there was still no documentation showing a multi-point inspection was performed. To my surprise (not really) when I received the email, I was charged the $109.95 price that I was told they could not honor. Overall, this was just a terrible experience and definitely my first and last time visiting this dealership. The only bright spot was Reggie, who handled the situation professionally and with kindness. Horrible place to buy from! I will be escalating this! I wish I had never come here. To start, I looked at a $15,500 car, and I drove from San Antonio to purchase it. Halfway there, I was called and told it was sold already. Since I was almost there, I still went to check the inventory and not completely waste my time. Johnny was my salesman and showed me another model, a 2025, that was vastly more expensive than the 2021 vehicle I planned to purchase. As a first-time car buyer, I feel the sales process was confusing, and I left with a different understanding of the pricing than what was reflected in the paperwork I signed. I felt super rushed to sign everything, and the wording felt very weird the entire time. I feel like they took advantage of me as a first-time car buyer and my lack of understanding of the sales tactics they use! When I drove off from the lot, my car started making a weird noise that is still there when I accelerate! There are issues with my blinkers as well! On top of that, I didn't receive ANY paperwork!!! I have been trying to contact them since late June for this. I gave them time to send it over before messaging and got absolutely nothing. I've called multiple times; a worker named Reggie took my call and told me they would get back to me last week. Did not get a call. Texted my salesman, nothing! Called yesterday and was told, "Oh, well, you really just need to message your salesman." "I already did." "Oh, let me transfer you" transferred to my salesman; no answer, and left a voicemail. Called again; was told actually only the finance department could get that information to me, so they transferred me and left a voicemail. No call back!! Waited a few hours; nothing! Called twice; no one answered. Left a voicemail saying I needed someone to call me; nothing!! Texted a new salesman; he said that they would send the information in the morning! I even texted again. I haven't received anything!! I feel so disregarded, and I will be escalating this issue! I don't even want my car anymore; they completely ruined my experience purchasing a vehicle! Do not purchase a car here! I will be filing a report with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to have this resolved because it feels like a scam, and it gets worse with every review I read. read more

I would strongly advise anyone to stay away from this dealership. Our experience was extremely frustrating and misleading from the start. We were contacted and told that a specific vehicle was ready, available, and certified. Based on that information, we made the trip to the dealership--only to find out the car was not certified and, in fact, could not be certified at all. This felt like a classic bait-and-switch tactic just to get us in the door. The lack of honesty and transparency was unacceptable and a complete waste of our time. Because of this, I will be filing formal complaints with the FTC, the Attorney General's office, and under Truth in Lending Act (TILA) violations and with the Better Business Bureau. I recommend that anyone considering doing business here proceed with extreme caution and verify everything in writing before making the trip. On the other hand, I highly recommend making the trip to Georgetown and going to Hewlett. 1 Star - Buyers Beware! I'd like to start by saying this is the first one-star review I've ever written, and I don't take it lightly. A close family friend purchased a 2024 Toyota RAV4 from Vanguard Volkswagen's used car lot. The very next day, the car died. She managed to get it back to the dealership, where they replaced the battery. Unfortunately, the car broke down again just a day or two later. Vanguard then advised her to take it to a nearby Toyota dealership for diagnosis. The Toyota technicians immediately told her to "turn and run" from this vehicle. According to them, the car had clearly had its engine removed and reinstalled incorrectly, with parts missing. They also printed a Carfax report showing it had been in two major accidents and had flood damage--none of which Vanguard had disclosed. When she tried to return the vehicle, the manager on duty told her, "tough luck, that's part of buying a used car." I later went back with her for support (as English is her second language), hoping this was all a misunderstanding. Unfortunately, we were met with more rudeness and dismissiveness. The manager only agreed to "look at the vehicle again" to see what was wrong. A week passed with no resolution until the General Manager finally got involved. Thankfully, he handled the situation professionally and ethically, making things right. He treated her with the respect and fairness that should have been shown from the start. It's unfortunate that it took the GM's intervention to resolve what should have been handled properly by his staff. I sincerely hope his professionalism sets a better example for the rest of the team. read more

Once we saw it in person, we quickly realized it wouldn't suit our needs, so we browsed the lot and found another vehicle that caught our interest. That's when things went downhill. When we started negotiating, they came back with completely outrageous numbers -- I'm talking about monthly payments nearly $300 more than what we ultimately got at another dealership. Purchased a 2021 Volkswagen Golf from Vanguard Volkswagen of Austin in October 2024. Shortly after purchase, the dealership failed to complete agreed obligations and was largely unresponsive to repeated calls--only one callback occurred after Volkswagen of America became involved. Within a month, electrical issues began and the battery failed. The dealership did not properly diagnose the issue. Since then, the vehicle has experienced ongoing EPC warnings, check engine light (P0111), EVAP fault, and shifting problems despite multiple repair attempts. A corporate escalation with Volkswagen resulted in a $460 diagnostic fee, but no root cause was identified and over $3,300 in recommended repairs were suggested without resolution. Volkswagen denied goodwill assistance and deferred back to the dealership. Despite ongoing drivability concerns and potential safety issues, no meaningful resolution was offered. When I asked the service advisor if the vehicle was safe to drive, he would not answer the question directly. Overall, very poor post-sale support and unresolved vehicle issues. read more

Complete frauds. I purchased a new 2023 Volkswagen ID4 in June of 25. I was told repeatedly that the vehicle qualified for the federal tax credit. When I filed my taxes it was rejected because the vehicle DOES NOT qualify. Vanguard has been utterly unresponsive and unhelpful and has told me a dozen different excuses. Over the years I had purchased 3 cars from Maund VW, and went there for regular maintenance and the occasional repairs. They would offer maintenance packages that I didn't always think were necessary, but they were never pushy about them, and they never once said I needed repairs that seemed unnecessary or outrageously overpriced (just the usual dealer markup). I've been to Vanguard a few times for regular oil changes and inspections, and haven't had any issues before. However, my most recent visit was exceptional, and not in a good way. Basically, I paid $189 for them to try to rip me off for almost $6k. They charged me for a "diagnosis fee," and came up with a whole bunch of repairs I supposedly needed, most of which had nothing to do with the reported issue, and there were no signs of the issues they were claiming. Somehow I have a coolant leak, but no signs of leaking fluid, and the temperature gauge always stays at the same temp it always has after warming up (even when it's 100 degrees out!). Obviously I found all of this suspicious, and took my car to an independent shop (one that's well known for honesty) for a second opinion. For a $50 fee, they checked out my car, and told me there were absolutely no signs of anything that Vanguard said was going on. He did say my rotors looked a bit worn, but I still have at least a year left before I need to do anything. He also told me that it's not uncommon for some places to try to take advantage of female customers, which is something I was aware of, but hadn't experienced in a while (not since the last time I tried to buy a car) and had not previously experienced at this dealership at all. So it was very disappointing, and Vanguard has lost a long time customer. read more

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Avoid Vanguard Volkswagen I purchased a 2022 Audi Q5 from Vanguard Volkswagen on August 26, and this has been the worst dealership experience I've ever had. I originally went in for a service, not to buy a car, but was aggressively persuaded by the sales staff. During negotiations, a salesperson even made an insulting comment about me being "cheap" over a $10-20 difference and take it for me and if you can't afford should not be sitting here, completely unprofessional and disrespectful. The manager on site was equally dismissive, complaining about his suit getting wet while helping me, and the entire process felt rushed and untransparent. When the paperwork was finalized, I later realized they had added a $2,900 "protection package" without explaining it -- a clear breach of fair-sales practice. Within three days, the check-engine light came on, showing a throttle-body fault. Despite multiple calls, I was ignored for days and had go four times to get hold of someone. I eventually had to involve Audi directly to get the car fixed under warranty. The dealership failed to provide a loaner vehicle and like after 15 days was provided a loaner even though I had purchased an extended warranty through them. I was also promised tint, mats, and detailing, none of which were honored. When I followed up, I was told the "city didn't provide water" for detailing -- I checked and that claim was false. Even the tint they provided was below the quality and shade discussed. Now, only two months later, I'm facing brake vibration issues, and the dealership won't return my calls. The manager even hung up on me when I called about the registration sticker delay after two months today , which the county tax office confirmed was already sent to them. This was my sixth vehicle purchase and I have never encountered such dishonesty and lack of accountability. Based on my experience and reading other reviews, I'm not the only one misled by the $3,000 add-on package that barely covers an oil change and tire rotation. Advice to buyers: * Get every add-on and warranty item in writing before signing. * Verify the "protection package" charges -- they're not worth it. * Never finalize paperwork until you've checked for hidden fees and confirm all promised items are included. Went in to test drive a car and ended up spending 3 hours in what felt like the headquarters of an automotive mob boss. I told every person that I was looking for a used car when I switch jobs in a couple of months, but they have 3 different people with increasingly large stature try to pressure me into walking with a new car that night. The last guy appeared to be wearing, like, 3 coats, and hit me with the "I'm losing thousands for you" and the "what will it take to get this done today" like I was negotiating an arms deal. They ended up getting it down to what I said I could afford in a couple of months, and offered for me to not pay for it until then, so when I walked, it made me feel pretty bad. A very impressive display of cold calculation and emotional manipulation, something I never want to experience when buying the most expensive thing I've ever bought. Many of the workers walk around in these long dark jackets with chucks and skinny jeans, very Spanish mafia type. It feels more like I'm buying drugs than buying a car. The new guy I was talking to was the only one I liked, and it's a shame his bosses took away a future sale by pushing past the humanity of sales. I recommend these fellas read J.D. We eventually found something slightly over budget, and they seemed open to negotiating once we came onsite. Unfortunately, once we arrived, the car had already sold--which we understood. The problem was what came after. Instead of being upfront or genuinely trying to help us find a fit, they spent a lot of time being pushy about options that weren't great and kept pressing us on how much we were willing to stretch our budget. Fast forward to the following month and we start getting letters about my credit app was ran with some other random stranger's name. Not one letter that was mailed to us had me and my fiancé. The letters had my name associated with another random person. So that means that whoever was in charge of running our credit app together ended up running my credit app with some other person's name instead of my fiancé. Went to the dealership to confront them about it and of course they're shifting blame saying that person may have my information or that I ran a credit app online. Customer-facing staff are friendly, and the repair time is timely but management are cold and calculating. This place is designed to extract as much money as possible. I showed my friends who also have VW, the quote Vanguard Volkswagen sent me for repairs and they said I was being robbed. The same sentiment was said in online forums who also had the same problems as me. I am now recommending nobody buy Volkswagen, or not to buy a Volkwagen if the closest dealership is Vanguard because you will need to buy lots of lube for what they will do to you if you ever need to take your car in. read more

To start, their online prices are a scam. They listed the car online at one price, and when I came in they not only raised the car price 3k, but added another 3k for their non-optional "Vanguard Package". After haggling down and getting back to a more reasonable price (Still nowhere near the online price), I bought it. The finance manager then tried to add $750 to the deal while claiming to remove $250 through shady tactics. Then, come to now. I have had the car a month, and no registration or title. I have reached out multiple times regarding getting an update, tracking, etc... No avail. Only ever get told it can take 90 days to receive. This is inconsistent with the facts: 1. Missouri adds fees if not Titled in 30 days 2. Texas Out-of-State buyer plates expire after 60 days 3. Even Texas requires paperwork be filed in 30 days So now I am more frustrated then ever. I will be reaching out to the BBB, Texas DMV, MO DMV, and the lender to find out where my title and registration are as it seems they have lost it, don't care, or don't intend to help me. read more

AVOID at all costs.... and there will be some if you don't. When I purchased my used car a year ago it was financed for 1000 dollars more than the purchase price. I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to get it back. Now they refuse to honor the 3 oil changes that were included with my purchase. Just don't go here. read more

They advertised a used car for $13,000 and then tried to force me to purchase a $3000 warranty on top of it. This is actually violates consumer protection laws, and when I informed them of this fact, they refused to sell me the vehicle. I strongly recommend avoiding this place. Avoid this dealership at all costs. I leased my Tiguan through VW Vanguard and signed all the paperwork to enroll in auto pay the same day. Months later, my car was repossessed because they failed to process the auto pay paperwork. Their negligence caused me extreme stress, inconvenience, and financial loss. When I approached the manager to resolve this issue, he offered zero solutions. No apology. No reimbursement. No accountability. This dealership's customer service is appalling. I bought my VW at Vanguard ten years ago and have used their service department ever since. Buying the car was super easy. The pricing was fair and transparent, no haggling required. And my experience with the service department (Jennie in particular) has been top notch. Over the years, they've taken care of everything from a basic oil change to a large insurance claim, and they've gone above and beyond on multiple occasions. Auto service is a complex business with a lot of moving parts. And yes, it does take time. But Vanguard does a fantastic job coordinating everything and makes it as seamless an experience as it can possibly be. read more
