Great Food, fast friendly service, reasonably priced!! Spring rolls were very fresh!!

I've been eating at Van Loi for years. I get cravings for the bun and just have to get my dose of yummy fresh food. I also always order spring rolls. The service is great. People are friendly and the owner often comes out to check on our satisfaction. This is my favorite place to eat and I also like Kim Long in Layton but it's further away so I don't go there much. read more

Completely agree with Josh R. This place is great and as close to my mom's cooking as it can get. It reminds me of the restaurants in Orange County, where there's a crap load of Vietnamese people. The owners are nice and you leave full. I had the special beef soup (#18)...spicy broth with pieces of beef and rice noodles and want to take a freakin' nap now. This place is a MAJOR disappointment. No idea what some of these people are talking about but the pho is mediocre at best. I'm Vietnamese and this place is not one to recommend as far as good and delicious Vietnamese food. Over priced in my opinion and definitely not worth coming back. I would rather make the trip to West Valley, where there is an array of delightful Vietnamese restaurants, from here any day. Food is decent. Had a to go order that is taking almost an hour. And they keep telling everyone coming in that the kitchen is backed up. I have only seen one server. This is utterly ridiculous. Too bad I already paid or I would be gone. I won't be returning. read more

First time to this restaurant and being a pho lover we saw it and immediately were excited because we were not only hungry but excited to see what this place was about. Not only being on vacation to relax and enjoy my families company but to go out and enjoy ourselves. I have been a SERVER and a BARTENDER for almost 9 years and I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A RUDE SERVER, EVER! not only were we not greeted with a hello, nor smile. We were treated as if we were a burden, an annoyance to her day. We asked for an extra order of spring rolls and she then put our order on her bus table/cart and took it to the back. Then she yelled another order of spring rolls in a shitty attitude as well. Then brought both out together assuming that the previous order was still the same that was placed on her disgusting bus table. Like we were an inconvenience to her to do her JOB. I could understand if we were rude but we were not so there was absolutely NO REASON TO BE TREATED AS WE WERE. The food was good but from the demeanor of the server and service I would have rather eaten garbage from a homeless man that he made himself, at least he'd be appreciative and nice! Isn't that the whole point of going out? To not only enjoy the food but the ambiance as well? Apparently that doesn't mean anything to that woman. On another note just so you all know, when they drop off the check you are supposed to walk up and cash out. She not only dropped off the check and did not tell us we were supposed to check out in the front and decided to tell us that after she snatched the card off the table and again with a snotty tone told us about cashing out in the front. By this point my blood is boiling because if I were to ever treat someone such as she did not only would I be fired but I would be embarrassed. Which obviously neither will happen nor did she feel bad. So if you want good food but really shitty service and to be treated as such than by all means that's the place for you. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN AND WILL MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT YOUR HORRIBLE SERVICE. Have a nice day and remember to smile, especially if you want tips in your line of service honey. read more

Came here for the first time today and as soon as we walked in we were told it will be 45mins to an hour before we would get food. There were very upset people who had been sitting for over an hour complaining. Don't think we will be coming back to this place. read more

Great Pho, I eat it every chance I get, I travel alot and think this one is tops!!!!, eggrolls are kick butt too!!!

For Pho, it's not bad. The broth is good, and the serving size is decent. It only has one size. The condiments do not include cilantro, but it is still great tasting without extra cilantro. Their thai tea is good, along with their spring rolls and vietnamese egg rolls. Price isn't too bad. The place has spacious seating, the staff is friendly. When they get busy, it can be hard to have diligent service, but there are only one to two people working there. To make it in a restaurant business on a small scale, I did not expect a lot of servers. So I expected somewhat of a wait when I went there. To me, the wait is worth the food. I never leave hungry. I have been there a few times and it's the best pho outside of Salt Lake City. read more

I was looking for a restaurant that served Pho north of Layton. When reviewing Van Loi, I read through all of the comments and the pictures looked right. My first impression pulling up was it's not in a bad building, sort of a newer strip mall. As I walked through the door it felt modern and what you'd expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. We arrived around lunchtime and it had three or four couples and one group of business types .... this was encouraging. Once my wife and I, and our 4 year old son sat down, I felt at easy with the decision to eat here. When ordering I noticed the price of the Pho was a little more expensive ($9.25) than places I've eaten at in SLC. But, for me, it was 6's since I live close to Roy. Not sure if my son would like Pho I asked for an extra bowl and promised to take him somewhere else if he didn't like it. The waitress was nice and understood, she was happy to help out. The food was on par with the Pho in SLC. We ordered the #5 Pho with steak and meatballs. Everything was fresh and tasted correct. My son asked for seconds, but was not up for the Saracha we added after serving him. The service was good and friendly. I would have given them 5 stars if the price was more in line with SLC, but again, I saved gas and travel time. I recommend this restaurant and will eat here again. read more

I left the house last night craving for some good Asian food... Then, I stumbled across Van Loi. All I can say is... WOW. The food here is spectacular. The super friendly and handsome (hehehehe) waiter, Nathan, quickly took my order. I started the meal off with something they called spring rolls, then a generously large bowl of beef pho, and finally, an exotic fried icecream ball. (YUMMM!!!). I had my doubts about the spring rolls at first... they looked relatively simple, but when I put them in my mouth, I was in culinary nirvana. The pho was hands down the best I've ever had in Utah. Much better than Pho Tay Ho in Salt Lake... Then I started on the fried ice cream. It was pretty tasty... crunchy, sweet, and cold. A perfect finale for my small feast. Van Loi is an excellent restaurant. The owner and waiters are very friendly, but more importantly, the food is delicious. Also, the restaurant is very clean and decorated quite well. Van Loi can expect me to see me again very soon. I am confident that I will once again have the premier dining experience at this awesome place. read more

The pho is bland and watered down. This place is not authentic. Our waitress took our order, brought out the food and I did not see her again. I had to go in the back and track her down so i could pay for my food. read more
