There aren't many good choices for Chinese in Rockwall. Everyone I've gotten food here I am happy. We order to go, but the staff are always prompt and have my order correct every time. Their soup is always tasty, egg rolls and crab rangoons are spot on. We usually stick to ordering the same thing(orange chicken and spicy combination lo mein), but we decided to try the crust jalapeño chicken. It is now our favorite! The flavors are amazing! They've really improved this year over the last few years. If you tried them before, come back and give them another try. You won't be disappointed!! read more

I haven't had the experience of experiencing the institution of Van Chans original, original, ownership. That being said, I've had amazing experiences and I've had a great time keeping them in the back pocket as a decision for dining out. While paying attention to various complaints as ownership has shifted, I've remained faithful. My first positive experience was requesting the 'dark chicken fried rice with extra vegetables' - emulating the very recently popular 'St. Louis style'. Their first attempt was okay, but it was what mattered. My wife and I did it again and it was even better! We were glad, but unfortunately something must have changed or the night must had been a bad night. We were supporting our local fave and we ordered the usual: Four spring rolls, dark fried rice with extra vegetables. The order was on time and when met, the delivery man was very pleasant and provided me with my food. Unfortunately, the food was incorrect - the food was a combination fried rice versus the original ask. We got the spring rolls but the crunch felt a little.. different than usual-- but we called and they were very polite and prompt with getting another order to us to replace their error. They were polite on the phone and quickly sent out a replacement, which I appreciated. But when it arrived, the rice was undercooked and the vegetables clearly rushed. The spring rolls had that slightly off texture--just not the same crisp as before. They earned points for their kindness and service, but the food just didn't land this time. Stopped going to Chan's about four years ago after many disappointing meals after ownership change. Thought I'd give it one more try tonight. Should have known better when I walked in and I was the only customer at 7 PM. Still I ordered my go to beef lo mein noodles. Shame on me for wasting my 16+ dollars. This place isn't consistent unfortunately, I've ordered it with DoorDash 3 times and only once was it good... other 2 times it was cooked with bad oil or something because it had a bad odor as well as a weird oily taste. The three Hispanic ladies that were working were calling these two old ladies that were complaining about the meat, not tasting right calling them some really awful words in Spanish. I can fully understand what they were saying. The one that was bagging our food kept putting her hands in her mouth and sucking on her fingernails never washed her hands. I'm absolutely disgusted. I don't even want to eat my food. The lady taking my order was on a call while taking my order she stopped multiple times to answer the man that was on the phone. I've managed a restaurant for over 15 years and I can't help but pick out a lot of things, but these are the major things that are food safety violations that could really make somebody sick. Chan's is usually good, but tonight it was awful. Everything we got was extremely over cooked and dried out. First of all I had to go back because they got the original order wrong. Once I go back and get back home, my sweet and sour shrimp tasted extremely fishy. My daughter's orange chicken was like beef jerky. Tge spare ribs were hard and dried out as well. I spent over $50 and wished I had just gone to McDonald's. Probably will not go again. read more

My wife and I have been irregular customers of Van Chan's since the Rockwall location opened some years ago. When they were new to town the experience was generally pleasant with large portions of reasonably priced food that was fresh and tasty. As more dining options came into town, we have visited them less frequently, but when we did the food has continued to be pretty good until quite recently. Several months ago we ordered for carry out and found our dishes to be somewhat bland and just not well prepared. Tonight we decided to try them again and the food was, in a word, dreadful. The Moo Shoo Pork was flavorless and visually unappealing while the General Tso's chicken was amazingly bad. It was both overcooked and lacking in the crisp texture that is characteristic of the dish while being drowned in a cloyingly sweet sauce with mushy peppers and various unrecognizable bits of vegetable. The steamed rice was adequate. It will be quite a while before we take another chance on this place. It's a shame because we like to support local businesses; but I can't recommend this establishment to anyone with functioning taste buds at this time. Take your money elsewhere. Have been a customer for many years, but no longer. Food is good, but the lack of human dignity exhibited by the staff is a sign of the generation. The TV had a Netflix movie on, with subtitles, that every 4th word was "motherf@&$er" "f@&" . When I asked for the channel to be changed, the volume turned down, and or at least turn off the CC, I was greeted with apathy. The teen behind the counter literally asked "what do you want me to do about it? It's okay by me." No common decency, willingness to address customer service, or be considerate of the small kids that were dining. The "manager" changed the channel finally. I grew up going to the one in Mesquite which is way better but I live in Rockwall and have been coming here for some time now. I always get the sesame chicken and steamed dumplings, which sadly the sesame chicken has reaaallly gone downhill. Now you don't get near the portion sizes you used to (definitely feel skimped) and they're like hard little nuggets overcooked or something.the sesame sauce is also really runny now (maybe for quantity), not thick like it used to. I also got skimped on the rice. It was about half empty when I got home and opened everything up. **Sesame chicken and 2 orders of steamed dumplings is definitely not worth $30.. Unfortunately, this was the last straw... tried to give them hope the past 4 times but it's only getting worse. I'm throwing in the towel. It's been a long time since I've eaten here. Just not on my short list of places to go. I had to persuade family to let me order takeout from here. I was not disappointed!! Just like I remembered. Fresh, delicious food. Friendly, efficient service. I asked for no shrimp in the combination Lo Mein and got just what I asked for and the Sweet and Sour Chicken was all white meat pieces.
