"Ugg" is the only appropriate response to the note in your DMV renewal that you need a smog test. I immediately picture going to some place with my car, getting the test, and being told, "Oh, it needs this whatsit to fixit and pass the test. Cost ya $250 plus another $100 for the test." Clearly I don't know much about cars or how they work or how mechanics talk, but you know the feeling. That is why you go to a place that only does smog tests. Only. They don't do the repairs. It is just pass or fail. Thankfully there is a business in Vallejo simply titled Vallejo Smog Test Only Center. No bones about it. The best thing is that it is a really nice professional place. We didn't have an appointment but the wait was very minimal and comfortable. And the owner-operator guy couldn't have been friendlier. This place is so good, I really can't believe that I'm the first to review it here on Yelp. read more

Ok, so I was really skeptical of all the reviews here on yelp. C'mon, 27 reviews and all of them 5 stars?!? Well, looks like I'll be the 28th 5 star review. As others have mentioned, Richard greeted me as I stepped out of my car. Great first impression as he was very cheerful. I expected my car to pass with ease, but then Richard came back within 15 minutes and said that I have a slight problem. He stated that my timing was off and that he got audited 6 months ago by inspectors and was instructed to check for timing even though certain cars state no timing check needed for smog. Go figure. Skepticism kicked in again. Richard couldn't adjust my timing because he's legally limited to just running tests without conducting repairs (totally understandable). He referred me to Emilio at Quality Tune Up across the street who said they would adjust my timing for $45. I did that and passed on the retest. Thinking about it more, I figured there's no way he's scamming me by kicking me over to Emilio for a $45 job. And especially considering he has to retest my car for free afterwards anyway. That's a waste of his time and resources. Richard is an honest guy and his attitude is top notch. Thanks Richard!! On a side note: Great fishing stories in the waiting room. I loved them. read more

There was one person ahead of me and one who walked in shortly after. Jessica the person behind the counter was pleasant & polite. It should be noted that proper healthy & safety signs were posted in & outside the shop. The customers & Jessica as well as the tech conducting the smog inspection were all wearing mask . Therefore I had a great feeling of safety while waiting especially during this challenging times. The waiting area was clean with hand sanitizer made available. Quick! Called in at roughly 12noon and asked what the work load was like. The ladies response " oh we have been pretty busy, but are getting cars out at a decent pace." I reply, "I'll be there in about 20 mins." As soon as I showed up I mentioned my call earlier and promptly filled out the paperwork. After I moved my little Toyota tercel into the lot and walked back in the office, a gentleman was asking for my keys. I never got his name, but he was a cool guy, skinny Pacific islander looking. Had some quick small talk and let him do his job... This process took roughly 35 mins from start to finish and cost me $65. Please remember, the service you receive greatly reflects your interpersonal skills. Having an ability to turn a source attitude into a bubbly smile with a few well placed words can make the difference between a good experience and a bad one. This place is the bomb diggity. I called at 7am and they were open. They were very professional on the phone. When I showed up there were some people in ahead of me. The lady at the counter was super helpful and very nice. The place is clean, the bathroom is clean. Super fast and Super nice - Super Service I got to hang out with billy the little kitten in the waiting area. A cute little stray who found a home as a shop cat at the Vallejo Smog test only center. he's a purrrrr tiger kitten who likes to curl up in your lap and purr purr purr while you pet him. I was in kitten heaven while I waited for my car. It only took 15min. I wished it had taken longer because I was having so much fun playing with the shop kitten. This place needs to be reported as running a scam operation. My car is a 2005 with 88k miles and this was it's second test but somehow it failed and is now considered a "GROSS POLLUTER". I took it to a mechanic for a $145.00 test which came back all clear, he couldn't find anything wrong. The mechanic drove it back for a retest not 60 min after the first and it totally passed. Now I'm out the initial test, plus the mechanics test then the retest and now I can only take my car to certain test stations since it tested as a gross polluter. When I look at the two tests the numbers are so completely out of range I can't believe the technician didn't think something was wrong on his end which leads me to think this was done intentionally. read more

Best in town. Really helpful smog tech where they explain it didn't pass smog by explaining target numbers. We've been customer at this place for 14 years. I tried one time at a good rated smog check station, but there's no customer service/wait area to sit while waiting for the test to get done. This place has nice leather sofa to sit on while waiting. During the test when they refused to use a mirror, the car otherwise completely passed the smog check. Well today I went to a different smog check place today and he didn't need the affidavit, he just right away had a mirror in hand and used it. This is actually standard things for a tester to do--use a mirror and not mark the car failed. I was relieved to know my car was not some unpassible smog test thing and a real tester will not make the car fail by being lazy. read more

Ahhh a mandatory smog test is the man's equivalent of a woman's PAP smear or mammogram...you never WANT to do it but it has to be done! Guess it sucks being an independent woman such as myself because I have to do all of the above!
